I think we both fell into the trick of smugly assuming we had a "sleeper" because the birth knocked him out for a fortnight. That was our biggest underestimate. They wake up! Thankfully he is a good sleeper but only once reflux etc was sorted.

I think second time is harder in some ways - you can't naively gloss over how tough and tiring the initial three months are. But its better in other ways too - you already know how truly madly deeply you are going to fall in love with them. We both keep looking at J and thinking how can we love someone else as much but we know we will. We feel v lucky at the thought of two babies to bring us so much joy, laughs and a wee bit of bang your head against the wall frustration. Grin

Definitely got that frustration at the moment - trying to potty train ds!

The scan seems like an age away loulou and definitely like waiting for Christmas. Congratulations to all those who have had their scans. I'm waiting for more movements- still infrequent which I know is common for 17 weeks, tho there is more when I lie on my tummy, which unfortunately is too uncomfortable now. Also means with the heat wave we are experiencing in California I will only be able to tan one side. Already there is a difference in the front compared to the back!

Dh is looking forward to the newborn stage and all the cuddles and I think is secretly rather glad that parents are safely in the UK so there is not the competition for snuggles! He has been able to gain some experience/ insight with my niece who was born last year. Someone we know know claims that they are frequently bored and having nothing to do looking after their child Hmm At least we have Christmas to break up the first three months

ExcitedCJ · 15/05/2014 20:19

I'm still alive! Just about to get on the plane to come home now. Long day. My DD woke me up having a nightmare at 3am & I couldn't get back to sleep.
I'm going to do 1/2 day tomorrow as I need to claw back some work life balance!
Love the bump pics, I'll load one up in next day or two. Depending on who I talk to I'm either told I look HUGE or really neat! Crazy people, I don't comment on their bellies as a matter of course. Although, a colleague told me today I looked fat, so I did comment on his big round tum, at least I have a reason!

Me23 · 15/05/2014 20:31

Have been reading this blog today this one made me cry www.scarymommy.com/to-the-unwashed-masses-of-mothers/

This one made me laugh mums on their second or third or more will relate www.scarymommy.com/having-a-third-child/

Kirstipops · 15/05/2014 20:49

Oh wow Me, that unwashed masses of mothers post is lovely isn't it. So sincere and genuine.

YellowWellies · 15/05/2014 20:59

Me23 Awww they're great. Funny and poignant. I can relate to the sentence about "only remembering you're pregnant when the toddler has gone to bed"! Am much more slap dash this time. Is it just me or are pelvic floor exercises in particular something I never remember / be arsed to do. I should as I'm nearly in need of a tena lady now if I run, and trampolines are right out! Must do something before my pelvic floor is dangling by my knees Shock .

mum2kiss · 15/05/2014 23:12

Yellow my.first labour was 4hrs...back to back contractions the entire time. They started at 5mins apart and got.quicker. I dilated from 3 to 8cms in about an hour and a half. My friend was my.birth partner and has 2 children. She said she has never seen contractions coming so thick and fast! Im just praying for 2 hours this time because that sounds better to me than 4! Lol!

mum2kiss · 15/05/2014 23:31

Just been to the loo and im spotting!!!!!!!!!!!

Very worrying! Im 18+3...

Will have to see if its still there tomorrow and if so get checked out again :(

CellyD · 15/05/2014 23:54

Hopefully the spotting will have stopped by tomorrow mum. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

fedupofrainydays · 16/05/2014 06:40

How is it this morning mum2? How worrying, I hope you are ok. A friend of mine had this and turned out to be something like cervical erosion and baby was all fine. Can you feel the baby move? Hope you managed to get some sleep.

binkybunny · 16/05/2014 06:43

I heard the story about the MLU biryhs on the radio tomorrow. Its great to be able to have a choice but MW's need to realise thats its a choice! We already have that here and I have chosen a MLU that is attached to a hospital that can provide care if things go wrong.

Our local midwives all work at the local unit which seems lovely but a lot of people I know have ended up in an ambulance at some point during or just after labour to the hospital we have chosen. I really cant deal with the thought of that and 20 minutes in an ambulance! Unfortunately the MW are very pushy and almost insistant that we go local. I've had two of them already at 8 week app and 12 week scan telling it was nonsense to choose the hospital and theres no need. Maybe so but its my choice.

Anyway, I'm going to have to be tough and stick with it as I have waivered both times and said I'd think about it just for an easier life!

binkybunny · 16/05/2014 06:52

Sorry for the typos in the last post. Laid in bed with one eye closed trying to put off getting up and finish packing up our house!

mum hope alls ok and the spotting stops.

mum2kiss · 16/05/2014 07:08

Haven't noticed any spotting over night but the pain has worsened since I got out of bed this morning :( im scared :( will call the day assessment unit and see if I can go back in this morning

binkybunny · 16/05/2014 07:26

Aww mum hope its just growing/ stretching pains.

tak1ngchances · 16/05/2014 07:27

mum2 do give them a call and let us know how you get on. Everything crossed that it's nothing to worry about

Loulou888 · 16/05/2014 07:29

Hope all is okay mum.

binky they will probably be drilled in meeting targets something their job shouldn't be about. Don't let them talk you round I think if it's your first it's should def be at hospital.

binkybunny · 16/05/2014 07:38

Thanks loulou. I think they might be worried because less people are choosing their unit and I guess it could close down. We're still going for the Midwife led unit, just the one thats 2 minutes down a corridor to the hospital not 20 mins in an ambulance! I do think everyone should have a choice where possible and that decision should be respected.

Kirstipops · 16/05/2014 07:41

Hope you get on OK today mum x

I'm going to a wedding tomorrow and thinking of treating myself to a wee glass of something, my first since bfp in January :-O Maybe a half glass of red with dinner but really I'd far rather have some champagne, I've never been to a wedding sober before! Jeez that makes me sound like a proper lush...

magichandles · 16/05/2014 07:44

Binky - I would feel the same if I wasn't high risk, the thought of a home birth or even at a MLU makes me really nervous. I'm much happier in a hospital and I should be allowed that choice in the same way other people are happier with a home birth/MLU.

Mum2 - I hope everything is ok.

Had my 16 week appointment yesterday and everything was fine, blood pressure fine as well which was a miracle seeing as DC2 basically tantrumed through the whole thing. Now I'll have the GTT and scan at 20 weeks and if they are both ok nothing until 28 weeks which feels odd as everyone has been all over me so far!

mum2kiss · 16/05/2014 07:47

Theyve told me to see.my gp this to get the results of the blood and urine analysis I had on sunday. She said it could be a uti...she advised to take.paracetamol to see if it gets rid of the cramps as they are generally not concerned about pain that can be relieved with paracetamol. She said if that doesnt help and the tests are clear to come to the hospital to be checked out. Fingers crossed all is well!

sazzlehopes · 16/05/2014 07:50

Gun thanks for that info, I'd like to do a vbac, but yes I'm nervous. Your story makes me feel better though!

Mum2 I really hope you get to talk or see someone today to put your mind at rest and that pain goes away x

Me23 · 16/05/2014 08:32

mum2 I hope all is well.

binky I wouldn't be pressuring you into anything you are choosing a mlu anyway not the labour ward!

magic yes it is your choice not to go to an mlu but as long as you make an informed choice the research shows you have more chance of a safer outcome for you and your baby in a mlu whether that is not in the main hospital or a birth centre attached to a hosptial and more chance of morbidity and interventions if you birth in a labour ward.

Me23 · 16/05/2014 08:33

Sorry should clarify when I say you I mean a general you applying to low risk pregnancies not high risk!
