I didn't tear because I had an episiotomy as J got stuck back to back and needed hoovering out. The stitches were a wee bit sore for a few days but healed fine - nothing like what you lovelies went through. I think the sorest bit was my throat as diamorphine made me puke at every contraction for 8 hours!!!! DH had to nobly eat my chocolates!
If I had torn, especially as badly as some of you ladies describe I'd be thinking ECS no shame in not wanting to risk continence! I think you get over the whole 'must do it naturally' obsession once you've been through it and appreciated how sometimes you can do all the hypnobirthing visualisations you like but if baby's head enters the birth canal at the wrong angle and gets stuck - you're likely to need a wee hand as it is very difficult to turn them. I'd like to do it without intervention this time but I don't care if I need help again - I'm just glad to be in a time and place that such options exist.
As much as I love the Ina May Gaskin books I don't like the way she views any intervention as failure or reckons tearing is better than being cut! (Though she has some awesome tips for natural pain relief and positions to reduce tearing, birth back to back and shoulder dystochia presentations so is definitely worth a read for newbies - I'm going to reread closer to the date as she makes you so damn positive and excited about labour!)
In terms of sections, my sister had both an EMCS and an ECS and the recovery time for the latter was so much easier.
I'm a bit
as to what will happen this time as Jonas was 6.3lb at 4 weeks early. At term they reckoned he'd have been 10+lb. It runs on DH's side - his Dad was 13lb!
I'm 5'6" and a 10\12 so not petite but still not a fecking chance! I wouldn't mind another one at 36-8 weeks rather than term because of that! Despite this I am mega excited for labour as it was one of the best days of my life.
