I just went to Sainsburys and got great clothes for holidays. They have loads of floaty things, jersey dresses, stretchy waistbands etc that will be comfortable but still vaguely pretty. Plus they were cheap - I got about 7 items for £100

pebble82 · 14/05/2014 19:07

I've just been to Tesco for milk and came back with a teeny babygrow. Unisex print as we're not finding out for another 2 weeks. So excited to have bought my first item :D

fatpony · 14/05/2014 19:16

Pebbles, so nice to have bought your first item. I got very excited at ten weeks when I bought a tiny hat and mittens. The till ladies were cooing over it! Last week DH bought a baby row with tiny yellow ducks on. I have bookmarked loads of stuff - the card will come out after the 20 week scan!

binkybunny · 14/05/2014 19:17

Thanks for the Bounty pack advice peeved I didnt get given it though!

Lots of nice neat bumps. I'm not showing a picture of my monstrous bump yet!!!

Pebble I find going to the supermarket disastrous for wanting to buy tiny baby things. We already have quite a lot so trying to resist the temptation to buy more!

fedupofrainydays · 14/05/2014 19:35

Where does the bounty pack come from? I got one at my 12 wk scan but if only had some decaf t bags in - none of this cream and other useful stuff!! Is it the second one or did I just have a dud / boring one?!

Loulou888 · 14/05/2014 20:11

You all have very neat small bumps. Mine is huge..... Definitely felt like I was wobbling whilst walking today.

ohthegoats · 14/05/2014 20:22

No Bounty pack for me either. That's what you get for booking in on a Saturday at a hospital, and for having private 12 week scans. Ah well. Maybe I'll ask at the 20 week one.

Captainmcgraw · 14/05/2014 21:27

Another one here with puberty stretch marks but none from bump. Did get stretch marks on just one boob though 'superboob' I called it. Did others breastfeeding find they had a super and a lazy boob!?

20 week scan for me in the morning. fedup I'm seeing consultant for exactly same reason tomorrow. I'm very much wanting an ELCS this time despite having a three year old. I found the whole experience traumatic and recovery horrible and I'm scared about it happening again as I have such a small frame and my daughter's (and husband's head) was massive. I read a good post on mumsnet about making the decision based on whether the reason that led to tear is likely to happen again. In my case I feel it may well do but if I thought it was unlikely I'd definitely go for natural birth.

ExcitedCJ · 14/05/2014 21:55

Bugger me, I'm depressed today! I'm finding working full time in a high pressure & demanding job, coupled with looking after a 3 yr old & feeling like I am falling short & trying to find time for my husband, along with being nearly 19 wks pregnant VERY difficult.
I have to get up at 4:15 am to go to the airport for a flight to attend a high level meeting tomorrow & I won't see my DD until Friday as I'm back so late tomorrow night. Please someone tell me a joke! :)
I've gained 3 lbs, have no stretch marks after DD even thought I got them when I was a teen. I had a EMCS with DD & would love a natural birth this time but she was 9lb 12oz, so not sure how things will unfold this time.
Sorry to rain on parades..

fedupofrainydays · 14/05/2014 22:22

excited me too. I've just finished work for the night and eating my dinner shattered.

captain I too had a lazier boob! Can't remember which one now but def one produced more milk!
I think if I was you I would opt for section too. Small people and huge babies are not a good combo for natural births! In my case ds wasn't particularly big or had a big head - it was the angle he came down at that made his head come out at the widest possible area. I also had an episiotomy that tore further so if this baby is on the similar position I will say I want a section too.
My recovery wasn't great but I wasn't sore - just had reduced control of when needed the loo but it came back with time and some serious pelvic floor exercises. I took lactulose for about 5 months to soften as was scared I would open up my stitches! They scanned my bum six months after and was almost normal so now thinking after 3 years it should be normal as it's gonna get! Giving birth does such wonderful things to ones body!
I think if you want an elective cs they will give you one. I have a choice for that too if I want so will see how we go.

ExcitedCJ · 14/05/2014 22:28

Thanks Fedup makes me feel less alone that other people are in the same boat! Sorry my lovelies, misery loves company.
Time for bed, only 5 hours before I get up! YAWN. Zzzzzz

YellowWellies · 14/05/2014 22:47

I didn't tear because I had an episiotomy as J got stuck back to back and needed hoovering out. The stitches were a wee bit sore for a few days but healed fine - nothing like what you lovelies went through. I think the sorest bit was my throat as diamorphine made me puke at every contraction for 8 hours!!!! DH had to nobly eat my chocolates!

If I had torn, especially as badly as some of you ladies describe I'd be thinking ECS no shame in not wanting to risk continence! I think you get over the whole 'must do it naturally' obsession once you've been through it and appreciated how sometimes you can do all the hypnobirthing visualisations you like but if baby's head enters the birth canal at the wrong angle and gets stuck - you're likely to need a wee hand as it is very difficult to turn them. I'd like to do it without intervention this time but I don't care if I need help again - I'm just glad to be in a time and place that such options exist.

As much as I love the Ina May Gaskin books I don't like the way she views any intervention as failure or reckons tearing is better than being cut! (Though she has some awesome tips for natural pain relief and positions to reduce tearing, birth back to back and shoulder dystochia presentations so is definitely worth a read for newbies - I'm going to reread closer to the date as she makes you so damn positive and excited about labour!)

In terms of sections, my sister had both an EMCS and an ECS and the recovery time for the latter was so much easier.

I'm a bit Confused as to what will happen this time as Jonas was 6.3lb at 4 weeks early. At term they reckoned he'd have been 10+lb. It runs on DH's side - his Dad was 13lb! Shock I'm 5'6" and a 10\12 so not petite but still not a fecking chance! I wouldn't mind another one at 36-8 weeks rather than term because of that! Despite this I am mega excited for labour as it was one of the best days of my life.

YellowWellies · 14/05/2014 22:54

What I'm trying to say is even if your birth goes a bit off piste from the birth plan - it can still be utterly awesome. Smile

fedupofrainydays · 14/05/2014 23:00

Mine was way off my birth plan but still best day of my life!! I think i have forgotten much of it though! I would prefer natural but if there is an inkling of a funny angle then I'm 'out' and up for elcs! Have scan at 38 plus 5 so will go on that. Weird thinking this far in advance - that's October!!!

YellowWellies · 14/05/2014 23:05

J was perfectly positioned until labour. Reckon he has his Dad's sense of direction Hmm

pusscous · 15/05/2014 04:48

Hi all, I'm back! I haven't posted since the beginning of April and a bit surprised at the how many boards there are. Have caught up on this one.

Am enjoying reading all the scan news. I have to wait until the 3d of June for my 20 week scan. I would like an early gender scan but dh has more patience than me.

I have put on about 1 &1/2 pounds since checking in at 9 weeks. No idea what weighted before bfp- was living in a hotle on company expenses for 6 weeks before bfp. But the Ob did weight me about a stone heavier than I weighed myself three days before! I put it down to the fact I weigh early with minimal clothing, but all appointments have been in late afternoon. Doesn't equate to a stone though Hmm still going to the gym and eating healthily so hopeful I can limit the gain!

Sorry for the long post!

Bumpforme2014 · 15/05/2014 07:02

This is my wee bump, I think it just looks like bloat!

October 2014 - thread 6 - BLUE/PINK/YELLOW the finding out begins!!!
fedupofrainydays · 15/05/2014 07:10

excited hope early start was ok! In in a foul mood this morn as I've been given 4 days to do something that estimated to take at least 10 days work. It's something never been done any where before and there is a reason why - it's bloody hard! And If they think I'm working on it beyond 5pm today (when need to leave and pick up DS) they can stick it somewhere the sun don't shine. It's one of our most important clients and so the pressure is on but they should have got me on it earlier of they really wanted it! Harrumph. "Fed up can you do some graphs showing the savings / changes" can I fuck? Haven't even built the thing yet - aghhhh.

Rant over and on with the day of doom. Hope everyone else ok

MundayCakes85 · 15/05/2014 07:21

Morning all, I'm trying not to read all the horror stories of awful births. Maybe it's a bit naive but I'm hoping for the best!
20 week scan today and getting pretty nervous, we w

fatpony · 15/05/2014 07:21

My belly at 18 weeks! It sticks out way more at the end of the day and I've started doing that pregnant lady arch back/rub the tummy kind of thing on the commute home :)

Bump I don't think yours looks like bloat, the way it rounds down looks like pregnant belly to me!

For those measuring mine actually sticks out more (2 inches more) below the belly button so are you measuring the widest part or just belly button.

MundayCakes85 · 15/05/2014 07:22

Oops, we won't be finding out the sex so I'll stay team yellow Smile as long as everything is ok x

Bumpforme2014 · 15/05/2014 07:27

Oh thanks pony, your looks similar size to mine and I am 18 weeks as well. Mine is also huge in the evening but I miss it in the morning lol

Captainmcgraw · 15/05/2014 07:40

Thanks fedup that was really reassuring and helpful. And to yellow for generally supportive comments for us all! munday (and possibly others) sorry for posting negative stories.

I think you are quite right to expect a good birth and quite likely to get one. Most people I know had one thing that they didn't quite like e.g. induction, longish labour, small tear but generally it was all fine otherwise and it really doesn't matter at the end of the day as long as you get the baby out somehow. fedup is right that it is still an amazing experience whatever. I really had some amazing times throughout the labour (especially in the pool) and I felt like I was coping really well with the whole situation. Sometimes just certain things are out of your control though. Anyway probably enough labour talk for now as there's plenty of time for this later.

On another note I might know which team I am within two hours! Most excited about telling my DD but I bet she will just say she wanted the other one! Munday good luck for your scan today.

magichandles · 15/05/2014 07:56

You all have such neat bumps - mine is massive and wobbly and I'm feeling pretty unattractive at the moment - it doesn't help that my boobs are massive as well so everything just hangs off them.

pony I'm just measuring round my waist still as that's the way I've kept track with both my previous pregnancies (I've kept the measurements as well which I find really interesting).

fedupofrainydays · 15/05/2014 08:01

Yes sorry if scared anyone. The fact we are all here doing it again speaks volumes! All that really matters is the baby gets out safe and mum stays safe too and often that can mean it doesn't always go exactly to your idealistic birth plan that NCT help you to make!! Don't be scared as it will all be fine just be prepared that your plans may shift a bit.
