Hi All, thought I would start a 3rd trimester thread, as most are past 23 weeks now!!!

Re underwire bras, midwife told me was to do with possible blocking of tubes for breastfeeding etc but she said that as long as I had no discomfort was OK to keep wearing them (with proviso that got measured regularly and bras were correct size). With that in mind, toddled of to M&S to be told that their policy is only to recommend non-wired bras!?

Loulou000 · 04/09/2006 11:24

New symptom alert - I tried to wear shoes this morning, instead of the birkenstocks I've been living in over the summer, and none of them fit! Do any others of you have swollen feet?

Oh dear. I have been drinking coffee all along - one small latte a day. Spinamum feeling guilty about one cup makes me feel like a very bad person. It's way below what studies say causes any problems, though. Also spent the weekend stuffing my face with bad food.

I haven't had any BH yet either. Did have my first leg cramps at the weekend though!

Congratulations on viability magnolia!

Weirdbird, I am still wearing underwired. Nothing else can cope with the weight! I've heard rumours that you are not supposed to, but also many people in the know saying it's nonsense.

jabberwocky · 04/09/2006 12:18

My feet were swollen about this time with ds. Not yet with this one. I don't want to be a worrier but I would definitely take whatever steps you can to slow it down. I was soooooo swollen and miserable by the time ds was born. Trying not to have that happen this time, but I'm not entirely sure that it can be avoided if you're body is predisposed to it.

Calmriver · 04/09/2006 13:11

Scan went really well, having scans every 2 weeks now until baby is born!!!She is on the smallest scale still, but they said nothing to worry about as they don't take mothers size into account on the charts, so all good!

Also, she doesn't have a winky, so she is DEFINATELY a baby girl. 26 weeks today, hooray!

I am in a very good mood now, and DD has no concusion which makes me feel even happier.

BRAS:
About the bra's, I buy underwire ones, and take out the wires the day I buy them. They are very comfy and do pretty much the same job.

FEET:
I haven't had swollen feet, but sometimes in the evenings or if Ive stood for a long period, they go red and my toes get puffy.

Hope your swelling isn't constant, I never liked it. Luckily we are going into some cooler weather when we are at our biggest!

My sonographer was saying that she has scanned 15 year olds who are pregnant with their 2nd babies!!!! WHAT!???

OP posts:
weirdbird · 04/09/2006 13:38

Well had my scan (20 week at 24 weeks)

Baby is breach at the moment and also had there face to my spine and refused to budge however much they were prodded ow

So I have no idea what to do to get a baby to move out of breach, off to do some research and because baby wouldn't move the only way they could look at bits was from below and they wern't sure.

So as ALL my baby stuff is girly (we knew last time) I think I am going to have to invest in some nice neutral bits just in case!

But a royal pain for me, cause I was going to hit the NNS in our area and save myself some money!

jabberwocky · 04/09/2006 13:41

Glad the scan went well, calmriver. Weirdbird, there are several threads around in the archives about turning breech babies. No experience personally as ds was not diagnosed as breech until 38 hours after my water broke

Loulou000 · 04/09/2006 13:56

Aren't they still moving position quite a lot at this stage though, weirdbird (although not when you want them to, of course)? At least, when I had my 20 week scan they said they didn't begin to stay in one position until, er, 30ish weeks I think they said.

jabberwocky · 04/09/2006 14:02

Good point, loulou. I can only blame pregnancy brain...

weirdbird · 04/09/2006 14:43

Oh good, so still plenty of time for them to move!

Am in the process of trying to change midwives so don't want to make an appt. until I know I will see the other one!

Have only seen my midwife once and tbh she was awful, and was very anti discussing me wanting a home birth which I really want to start planning, she also failed to write it on my notes and in fact just put down the hospital name...

and of course sonographers just said breech and you cant ask them questions

Calmriver · 04/09/2006 16:23

Hi weirdbird, still time for baby to move untill labour. My DD is currently cephalic, with her face to my spine too.Apparantly getting on all 4's and rocking slowly back and forth is a good way to change position though.

Loulou000 · 04/09/2006 16:49

Argh. Am taking so much gaviscon now! I hope you can't take too much.

Indith · 04/09/2006 17:15

So I got up last Thursday morning and had to ask myself where on earth Bump had got to. THe little blighter has been right down low since then and getting my bladder at every available moment!

Also last week I got up too sharply and my poor stretching ligaments and tissues protested in a painful manner. It was recovering but I spent the weekend over in Leeds with dp and the resulting err, exercise, has made it flare up again. Grr, couldn't even do that much swimming today!

No swollen feet for me yet, but then I live in trainers!

Elibean · 04/09/2006 18:20

Glad the scans went well for you, Calmriver and Weirdbird!

Really wouldn't worry about position yet, dd was transverse until about 36 weeks then turned obligingly head down (until the day I was being induced, but thats another story). Nearer the time though, its true that going on all fours can help - I used to watch tv that way (god knows what the neighbours thought if they looked in the window) and not slumping on a sofa ditto good idea.

Don't know about whether you can take too much Gaviscon or not, but DO know you can take Zantac safely in second and third trimesters - and its much more effective! My OB has okayed it, plus it doesn't taste revolting

That said, its barely doing the trick for me anymore...blinking hernia...

accessorizequeen · 04/09/2006 22:30

loulou, did you manage to find some tops at m/care eventuallly? Hope they turned out to be long for you too, or else I have some sort of weird short torso..
Had been told also not to wear underwires but by a certain point I didn't want to anyway, just too much pressure. I was sold an underwire nursing bra by Anita the other week which is softer than normal & it seems more comfy than standard underwire. Trouble is, I'll have grown 3 more cup sizes or so by the time milk comes in so kind of useless as nursing bra. I think Anita do lots of other v.supportive ones as opposed to useless versions from M&S & Mcare for the 'larger chest'. Trouble is, it's only 10 weeks & then have to start buying feeding bras (if you're bfeeding, that is). I was told by lady who sold me u/wire nursing bra that I'd drop a back size or 2 straight after giving birth - I really don't remember this, is that true? How on earth are you ever meant to have a bra that fits properly if you're changing every 2 weeks?!!! I'm really dreading milk coming in, just felt so massive & I'm already huge, all you see are boobs coming towards you. Saw photos of me from last weekend's wedding (I had thought I looked quite nice) but the breasts took up much of the frame!

weirdbird · 04/09/2006 22:36

I looked like Jordan last time my milk came in, was a 34 J or something ridiculas.

The first thing my younger (19 at the time) brother said to me when he saw me after the birth was

"What did you do to your breasts"

Wherat I rolled my eyes at him and replied

"Well I was already here so thought I'd get a boob job at the same time...!"

and kept a straight face, I could see him trying to work out what was going on and eventually he just turned red :O

Olihan · 04/09/2006 22:41

Isn't the underwire thing to do with compressing the milk ducts? John Lewis won't sell ordinary underwired bras if you're pg. The back size thing is where you lose your bump - your ribs expand as the baby moves up and squashes everything else upwards too. I seem to remember that you shouldn't be fitted for a nursing bra until after 36 weeks.

Would just lile to say that I am very of all of you with huge boobs. Mine have never changed size in all 3 pgs. Even in the early days of bf they've just got a bit firmer and more pert (think belly button, rather than knees ). So really VERY of you all!!

accessorizequeen · 04/09/2006 22:42

I was 42K. You can see why I'm feeling depressed as I'm several cup sizes bigger at this point than I was with ds1 (whilst weighing less). I just wanted them to disappear really.
anyone having name trouble? Who was having the big name issue, did you resolve it??? We've come up with 3 names & I don't 'love' any of them the way I loved ds's name immediately. But really, we've looked at 1500 boys' names on net plus every mnet thread on the subject. should I just give into dp? I hope I'm not offending anyone here, but Felix is dp's 1st choice & whilst I reallly like it, I can't help singing that dratted song to myself every time.

accessorizequeen · 04/09/2006 22:46

You can have 'em Olihan, I'm starting to hate even looking in the mirror! I feel fine otherwise, skin's blooming etc, but I really feel like a bloomin' lollipop right now.
On positive side, ds is now in pants at night too, all in 2 weeks, I simply can't believe my luck after dreading this for a year!

Elibean · 04/09/2006 23:05

Woohoo, go AQ's ds! Thats great going. dd is pretty reliable at taking herself to the potty during the day now after 3-4 weeks, and is dry for naps (when she still has one) but haven't dared try nights yet. Though her nappy is often dry in the morning...ah no, I don't dare.

Weirdbird, LOL at your brother story!

Elibean · 04/09/2006 23:06

Ah forgot....names, totally relate: have looked at thousands of girls names, like many, but can't find 'the one'. Yet. I think its too early for me - hadn't even heard of dd1's name until a few weeks before she was born! But worrying about what if nothing 'clicks' this time...will she be baby Bean forever?!

jabberwocky · 05/09/2006 01:12

Oh, yes, the afterbirth boobs. Mine were absolutely huge. But, unfortunately, not in that "I've just had a massive boob job and they're so perky and great" kind of way. More in the "Yes, I am Elsie the cow" way. I remember being sooo glad to get my old ones back after bfing.

Names, yes. Well, dh and I have agreed on the first name but are having a massive disagreement on the middle name. I've decided if it comes to it, I'm just filling out the birth certificate as I like and he can just deal with it. It's a family name that I want and ds has a family name from his side as the middle name, so I think overall fair is fair.

accessorizequeen · 05/09/2006 04:38

Can't sleep, after my boasting ds fell out of the bed 3 times & also wet the bed! Just my luck I stupidly decided to take the waterproof bed sheet out & forgot to put another in. Olihan, did you buy one of those hippychick sheets, I'm seriously tempted. I had no choice over night training, ds was waking me at 3 going toilet, toilet & then I forgot to take a nappy when we stayed o'night at in-laws at weekend. Also feeling v.guilty that I had removed pillows from floor as he hadn't fallen out in 2 weeks, rather large bump although amazingly he didn't actually wake up. Thank god I bought low junior bed!
Feeling totally overwhelmed tonight, I think I'm guilty of doing too much syndrome lately, several busy weekends & DP & I have both been doing work at nights in addition to cold/migraines/sinusitus (sp?) which has just subsided. Feel there's just a list of things to do a mile long & I ought to be busy every night doing them yet so knackered after day at work or with ds that I just slump on the sofa. Now dp has decided bathroom must be done right now & has booked someone to do it in 2 weeks so I have to decide & order EVERYTHING immediately.Have chosen much of it, but have pg brain & making even small decision about bathroom cabinet doing my head in. so naturally as I couldn't sleep I've just spent an hour looking for storage for ds's toys in lounge. Excellent use of my time!

castlesintheair · 05/09/2006 09:05

Intrigued by your DD's name Elibean?!!
We always have a few ideas for names but wait until after the birth to decide because they might not suit it. We had a lovely name for DD but she really wasn't one but really is the one she's got, IYKWIM!

Think I might burst. Have even started to waddle a bit DS said I was walking like Maggie Thatcher over the cobbles at the w/e

castlesintheair · 05/09/2006 09:08

Oops! that should be DH. DS isn't that precocious ... yet
