Insomnia....yup, me too. Then about one night in three I get so knackered I sleep really well: think I'm due for one of those tonight after a grand total of about 4.5 hours last night! Mind you, the last bit of wakefulness was down to dd who woke up at the crack of dawn....and nearly keeled over with exhaustion (me too!) when I picked her up from nursery.
Castles, I think all of that re ds sounds pretty normal for a first week of school...and you made me re lying down when tired, dd did exactly that in the GP's surgery on Monday afternoon because she was knackered from nursery. Just, lay down and said 'no, Mummy, no want get up, me tired'.
Think some of us insomniacs should try that in Sainsburys tomorrow.....
Lucy, aaargh, poor you! Will look out for cats..
Am off to investigate crocs online...feet swollen today, must be the heat?

Elibean · 13/09/2006 19:50

Nearly forgot - went for a pregnancy massage today! Sounds amazing, would have been amazing, except had to lie bump down on silly foam thingy which was supposed to support me enough for bump to be comfortable. Ha. I felt like I was lying on my poor, wriggling baby and ended up clenching all muscles trying to lift up a little - then gave up, asked to have it removed (foam thing, not baby), and finished off lying on my side with raging heartburn...
Recommend anyone else planning a pampering treat to check its a table with a hole in it rather than a foam thingy....unless they have a very small bump

Redlorry75 · 13/09/2006 20:34

I got crocs - but DH came along and insisted I go for a muted stone colour - he called it beige (how old is he again), not the outragageous pink or yellow I would have liked. Had to buy a womans size 11 !!!! I am only a 7/8 -must be something to do with American sizing.
However I have to say they are lovely and comfy and like walking on air - they feel like they're made of rubber - although not in a sweaty way, and look a bit like theatre shoes (hospital not the arts). Oh my crocs - where have you been all my life?

Did'nt get BigMac either as DH doesnt like McDonalds, but was quite happy to go to KFC, then tried to get me to eat the new Zinger Chicken - Oh yes I want heartburn for the rest of the week - if not pregnancy. Honestly I just have to say....MEN! But then agin I did'nt have to cook.

Also he took DD out this afternoon and bought her new coloured torch, Stuart Little and Madagascar - and he complains I spoil her, at least I just get things like a box of paints or a bottle of juice!!

Still he's still really good and nice to me so can't complain too much.

Elibean, I cant understand how the massage people would think a squashy underbump pillow would allow you to lie flat?? But I like the idea of a pampering session. The most I think I can look forward to is a haircut and eyebrow wax!

AQ I love my PJ's too - but they are just too hot so a sarong it is and sod the neighbours!

accessorizequeen · 13/09/2006 20:43

Tempted by Nytol or something else, as it can keep going with me for ever, I just get more and more frantic, humorless and down. Can't see anything sweet about ds at the mo' & feel guilty coz I ended up crying this morning in front of him, was so frustrated by his behaviour. DP had a go at me about fake whingeing, but I don't even have the energy to defend myself. Anyone else have brilliant ideas how to solve insomnia, am sleeping again on futon tonight, doing yoga before I go to bed & trying hard to think of positive things.

Beige crocs better than none, RedLorry - maybe I shouldn't have sent mine back, they were size 11 I think but I just couldn't keep them on my feet! PS you could always order some bright ones from ebay & hide them I hope he paid for them if he's telling you which colour to buy!

Redlorry75 · 13/09/2006 20:48

Taling of futons - does anyone know where I can get one of those chair baeds that are basically two large sqaures of foam and and a wedge shaped bi that folds out flat into a bed? O need to get noe for when baby is born so DH can escape into nursery of DD's room if baby is crying, and later on so i can sleep in comfort if have to spend night with Bubs to help them settle? Saw some on e-bay but wopuld prefer to get them in a shop. woolies had them for about £30 earlier this year, but think they are seasonal.

And yes AQ - DH paid for Crocs - perhaps I can get some of the Jibbitz off e-bay to liven them up?

Redlorry75 · 13/09/2006 20:49

Sorry for really pants spelling in last message - long day - too much excitement over Crocs - I live my crocs by the way!

Think I'll call it a night XX

accessorizequeen · 13/09/2006 20:50

Jibb- wha?? Spray paint them There, first smile from me all day!
Futon company do stuff like that, maybe? If you don't get an answer here, try posting in Products, I can't believe the knowledge of some of the regular posters on there!

spinamum · 13/09/2006 21:03

I too have insomnia! Had a totally knackering day at work. My collegue was off sick so I was pretty much on my own all day(There are two of us full day p'cist plus a manager who has other distractions) I was fine when at work but collapsed as soon as I walked in door. DS has moved rooms at nursery and is struggling a bit. He's in a terrible mood this week, had a wee accident yesterday evening and did a poo in his pants just as I picked him up from nursery today.(Took me 15 minutes to get him clean enough to get into car seat and home. Then straight into bath)I hope he settles. This is the first time he's been anything other than ecstatic about nursery. Apparantly he's fine when he's there, but he's not FINE from his mummy's view! Hope it's just severe tiredness. He lay down next to me on sofa (while I flopped after getting in and doing dinner) and he fell asleep within 30seconds(no exaggeration!)

So considering the exhausting day,I'm tempted to go to bed now and I might be asleep by ten or eleven!

Elibean · 13/09/2006 21:46

Cure #1: get totally utterly knackered

Cure #2: have a huge great big cry (accompanied by some raging if necessary first)

Cure #3: take cold shower, especially over restless legs, before going to bed

Cure #4: send partner to make warm milk flavoured with vanilla and sugar

Cure #5: have an important reason to stay awake

Off to try #1, having done #2 last night, and holding #4 in reserve just in case. Just completed #3, and #5 doesn't appeal!

Wishing you all some serious sleeping...

Elibean · 13/09/2006 21:49

Redlorry, would try to describe squashy cushion thing - but almost impossible! Had bit to rest head on, then narrower bit to fit between boobs (too wide for me, so squished boobs instead), then wider circular bit to fit round bump and under pubic bone: this bit kept moving outwards, so me and my bump sagged into the middle bit. Either I'm too small framed, or my bump is too saggy, or I'm too heavy to be supported by the stuff - in any case, trust me, best stick to haircut (waxing of any sort sounds like torture to me!).

jabberwocky · 13/09/2006 23:14

I've had insomnia too! It's maddening. I did finally get a good night's sleep last night, though. You can take benadryl while pregnant if you're desperate for a night's sleep. I did do that once a few month's ago to break the cycle (for a night or so, anyway).

I had a couple of pg massages last time with ds and they were really crap. This time around I'm still going to my regular massage therapist once a month and she just does it like she always does. I think this month will be the one where we have to get creative on position though.

Goodness, that sounded a bit pornographic, didn't it?

castlesintheair · 14/09/2006 07:16

Hi, your insomnia sound's really bad AQ especially as it is having a knock-on effect on your day etc. I know how awful that is. The friend I mentioned in previous post was told that it is the baby's metabolism. We know how nocturnal they are don't we? She ended up taking Nytol and it really did work. Even for just one night, maybe you should give it a go. Also, as Jabber says, there are prescription drugs you can take during pregnancy. I was prescribed Chlorphenamine (like piriton) for my hideous hayfever. It was like taking a sleeping pill and knocked me out all night and most of the next day! I hope it improves for you soon and for all you fellow insomniacs!

I've had a 24 hours flu bug. Couldn't stop chucking up yesterday (sorry if TMI) but the good news is I have officially only gained 7lbs during this pregnancy !!

This Russian sounding bloke came with a delivery yesterday and said "your boy he going to be a Virgo". Feeling extremely groggy I was like "yer wha?" thinking he meant DS. But no he meant bump is a boy (don't know BTW) and he thought it was due now!!! Funny, I 1st assumed it was a girl and for last 3 months have been convinced it is a boy. Will be interesting to find out.

Elibean · 14/09/2006 07:28

Urgh, poor you Castles, hope it really was just the 24 hours. Or are you feverish and hallucinating Russian blokes issuing predictions?
Its good to know there are things one can take to break the most vicious of cycles, and hope one works for you AQ...me, I wish I could find one that stops dd waking up at 6.30am (she's normally an 8am girl) since we started putting her to bed at 8.30 because of nursery.
And......one more pregnancy symptom to check out...I'm getting very stuffed up nose and wheezy, heavy chest at night, esp. in the early hours (at which point dd wakes up) and its waking me up from about 4-5am onwards. I actually feel like I can't breathe, even on a mound of pillows. I think its probably allergies/damp air but...any tips?

Elibean · 14/09/2006 07:28

Jabber, re massage. Yes, it does.

Calmriver · 14/09/2006 07:49

Hi all, sorry to hear you are all suffering with insomnia. I had it a bit weeks ago, but the only thing that keeps me from sleeping(by the time I go to bed-midnight) is the toilet!

I just get leg-ache and hip ache from lying down to long now! ANOTHER NEW THING!

Another driving lesson today, lets hope I don't end up on the verge again!

Calmriver · 14/09/2006 07:50

Are you flylady's ready to start by the way??

OP posts:
castlesintheair · 14/09/2006 08:16

It could be your lungs are a bit squashed with the baby being so high Elibean. I remember feeling like I was suffocating sometimes with 1st PG. Or blocked sinuses (I get these during pg and apparently snore beautifully ) and all the gunge is running downhill?

Both my DCs wake around 6am! I have tried everything (going to bed later, black-out blinds etc) and it doesn't work. I have decided that they are just full of beans and can't wait to get on with causing mayhem all day

RedLorry, I think they have those foam bed chairs in Argos. Also seen them in kiddy catalogues but they always cost an arm & a leg.

weirdbird · 14/09/2006 10:05

I am ready CR, just got completely distracted by coping with DD starting school, are you going to start a thread?

I get the official missions daily, if you would like me to post them!

weirdbird · 14/09/2006 10:08

No insomnia for me, in fact being pregnant has had the opposite affect, was suffering with it on and off for the previous 6mths up to when I got pregnant and then the moment I was it vanished completely and I am back to my normal state of head hits the pillow sleeping.

But then is anyone else needing 9-10 hours sleep a night to be able to function?

Cause if I am not in bed by 10pm now, I cant manage to get out of bed at 7am when the alarm goes off!

accessorizequeen · 14/09/2006 12:48

Can thoroughly recommend Potter's Catarryh (sp?) pastilles for blockedup feelings...safe in pg hurrah. Also we have some of those plug in things with capsules from boots, like eucalyptus, that waft in the air & help the breathing, I'm not at home or I'd check the name of them but they might help EB?
Had a much better night, thank you all esp cures from EB!, we played musical beds all night & ds ended up with dp on futon & me in the comfy queen size on my own so I feel like I'm functioning again. Did have a cry, so that may have helped? Plus DS going into nursery for extra half day tomorrow, I can get on top of things again. WB, yes I NEED 9-10 sleep a night, it's just I haven't had it in 3 years so diet coke plugs the gap (and yoga, always make me feel less tired somehow).
DS now waking at 6.30 after months of 8am, and demands brekkie straightaway! I can't eat until 9 at least.
I am v.interested in flylady, looked at website & think it could help me a lot but explain what the rest of you are doing pretty please?? I don't understand. Tried to shine my sink this morning & failed.

Devongirl · 14/09/2006 13:10

Elibean - your symptoms sound like mine, which has been diagnosed as infected sinuses - everytime I lie down I can't breathe and it's becoming a real conscious problem now, I am starting to dread going to bed (normally can't get enough of it!) Because I can't breathe through both nostrils at the same time I panic and give in and breathe through my mouth all night, leading to sore throat and cracked lips - feeling my least attractive EVER! The midwife said that pregnancy 'bloom' only affects 1 in 50 women, whereas the rest of us feel like cr*p!

accessorizequeen · 14/09/2006 13:27

DG, did you end up taking your antibiotics? If so, hope they start working soon, I know it took 2-3 days for mine to kick in.

lucy5 · 14/09/2006 14:06

Hello all!

Devon girl thanks for those blooming statistics , hahaha , at least we know we are not alone.

Elibean, I often wake up feeling like I'm suffocating but I haven't got a blocked nose.

I have now got leg cramps which are excruciaingly painful and i'm still throwing up. Other than that I am not too bad

We had terrific storms here last night and have been having powercuts on and off all day, so making the most of the computer whilst I have still got access.

Loulou000 · 14/09/2006 15:11

I can't sleep well either. As soon as anything wakes me I can't go back to sleep and my mind is racing. Used to sleep like a log. Poor AQ, sounds like you're having such a hard time.

Poor elibean with the massage. I had bad experience too where they wanted me to lie on my side throughout. Is not possible to relax and have back poked on your side. Now I have found a woman with one of those shiatsu chairs and it's fabulous.

And I like your insomnia cures. Only thing that ever works for me is imagining my alarm is going off and I must now get up. Get really sleepy all of a sudden.

Redlorry75 · 14/09/2006 15:37

Hi All,

Just thought I would say hello from work. The temperature is rising and my ankles are swelling.

Still got next week off and the boss is off tomorrow so things should start to feel better - I can live in hope!

Hope your all feeling - well, as well as you can.
