Strawberry- I'm sure the mw and dr won't have told you it won't be a problem without knowing either way. If in doubt they would have said as much. Given that you asked specifically, I'd trust what they said.
It is nerve wracking though and you're right white, m & p wasn't being helpful.

Ella you'll probably find out your placenta position at your scan, it sounds like it's probably anterior to me since all of us with it seem to be having exactly the same - some days kicks, some days not :( wish he would just stay in one place so I could feel him all the time! Glad I'm not the only one though.

holls2000 · 01/05/2014 15:31

Ella, have your midwives got a drop in that you can go to? Ours do, so I am heading in tomorrow just to get a bit of reassurance. Xx

KatharineClover · 01/05/2014 15:45

ella they don't check placenta site at the 12 week scan, but do at the 20 week scan. Mine is high anterior too. I get lots of low down kicks after chocolate!
According to the details in my notes, you should have been seen at 16 weeks, the next appointment for second / subsequent pregnancies is 28 weeks, but you should be able to ring for an additional appointment if you are worried.

CoolCat2014 · 01/05/2014 16:22

Good news... Finally got the asthma under control thanks to a fab practice nurse and yet another different inhaler! Feel like a different person, I couldn't even walk up the stairs at work without feeling like I'd run a marathon! Today wailing all over the place and not out of breath one bit :) aaaan the morning sickness has finally stopped!!! So happy, just had to share, as it's been a long 22 weeks so far!

KitKat1985 · 01/05/2014 16:39

Strawberry I think the risks of a CT scan are very low. I know it's really hard not to worry but I truly do think that the risk is extremely minimal, so try not to focus on it.

My movements come and go a bit as well, although they are getting a bit more regular now that I'm getting further along (20+1 today). Got my 20 week scan tomorrow. Am hoping baby is a bit more co-operative than he or she was at the 12 week scan!

Please to hear you are feeling better coolcat. :)

rockin20s · 01/05/2014 16:42

thats great to hear cool cat im out of breath walking up the stairs but have been like that since about 8 weeks. can walk on falt for ages without getting breathless.

elle i have my scan in about 10 days and will be asking where my placenta is. i have felt movement low down and to my left side. nothing high or to the right.
its still early days to be feeling consistent movement!

Lottiedoubtie · 01/05/2014 17:00

Hi everyone, just found the new thread! It's been a stressful few days, 20w scan identified some issues, and I had to be referred to a different hospital for a consultant scan. Good news is the consultant was quite reassuring and baby is healthy, but am going to need further monitoring scans.

cookielove · 01/05/2014 17:36

Hello all, not sure if you lot remember but I was in a bit of a pickle wondering if I should cancel my 20 week appointment due to having one booked in for 21 weeks. Any who I have cancelled it and I am going to pay for a private one so my folks can see the baby!

I can feel light fluttering in my belly low down and I am quite tight across my lower half.

As others have said strawberry I think the dr's and midwives can reassure you on the low risks a ct will have given you. However I can completely understand your worry and offer you some hand holding!

lottie sad to hear you are going through stresses, but you must be relieved to hear the baby will be healthy.

coolcat glad things are improving :)

Quick question do we just follow the plan thing at the back of our notes and call up the midwife when we get to the weeks it wants us to meet them or will they call?

Cookie I have just rung up to book my 24 week check up with mw. I don't think they would ring you to book the appt.

As it's my first pregnancy, I'm not sure whether I'm feeling kicks or not to b honest. I sometimes get a few sharp pains lower left but not that often. It maybe because my baby is currently facing towards my back so don't think I would feel many kicks. I'm hoping that baby turns round in time for scan attempt no 2 next week.

Nazly · 01/05/2014 19:05

In my case something really annoying happened with midwife appointments; When I first went to my gp to tell her I am pregnant she told me I can choose where to deliver and there are 5 hospitals nearby that accept me; I didn't choose the closest one because I have been there before and it is very busy all the time... I chose one within 25min drive of us...

When i went there for my booking appointment at 12W, the midwife told me you will have three appointment here (12,28,34) and for the rest you should go to your local midwifes;

But when I called my local midwife unit, they said as I am not delivering in their local hospital they can not give me any services!! And I should call back the hospital and tell them that! When I called the hospital again explaining this, they said oh yes, this has to do with money and how NhS paya hospitals, etc. but unless you want to change your hospital now we can't do anything about it and we don't give you midwife service either!!! They told me You can go to your gp if you want!!!

I found that really annoying, This is my first and I was given a NhS leaflet which explained I would see a midwife every 3 to 4 weeks after booking appointment, I was never told if I choose a hospital further away then I wont be seen by midwifes! I don't feel GPs can give you same service as a midwife... Midwifes are sort of specialists in their jobs...

Anyway, enough of moaning... Just wanted to say I also don't have frequent midwife appointments either... Didn't have the 16 and wont have one for another 6 weeks!!

Still confused, How can you realise where the baby is lying? Should I just pay more attention?

CumbrianExile · 01/05/2014 19:10

Cookie my midwife tends to make the next appointment at the end of the currrent appointment. So I already have my 24 week checkup appointment. I guess everywhere is different though.

Fairypants · 01/05/2014 19:14

Nazly - ive never been able to tell, even right at the end with my previous 2 babies. I get that you should be able to tell later on by where they are kicking and how they feel but ive never felt confidant enough to take a guess.
I'm a bit annoyed this pm. DH put our pink news on fb this morning and there where a few congrats and likes. Then someone wrote 'unlucky mate but congrats anyway. Lol' Angry
Then, then next comment from someone else was wondering is dc4 would follow soon after Sad
I'm feeling really upset about it as its just insulting to both my little girl and my 2 big girls but I'm not sure if I'm being a bit over emotional about it.

topmammy · 01/05/2014 19:16

My notes say I have a high anterior placenta too. I'm 23w+2 now and I do feel kicks everyday usually around lunch time and in the evening. But they're not really hard kicks and dont last very long. They are low down though, like below my knicker line low usually lol. I think I felt a couple of kicks when in bed this morning that were really high up which I've not had before. So basically not feeling much in the middle! Not seen my tummy move as a result of a kick yet. Hope it's just the placenta in the way and not too much podge Blush

I'm so happy it's bank holiday on monday! :)

KatharineClover · 01/05/2014 19:18

ella according to my notes it's usual to have at least 7 midwife appointments in a second (or subsequent) pregnancy : (from memory)
Booking, 16 weeks, 28 weeks, 34 weeks, 36 weeks, 39 weeks, 41 weeks

DearDinah · 01/05/2014 19:24

I can't believe how different the services are everywhere, my system is the same as cumbrian my midwife makes the next appointment when I see her, I'm in the north west
I can imagine it's frustrating having to remember to book your own appointments & nazly I'd be so pissed off they've given you false information really & should have explained from the start how the services differ, why bother telling you to choose from 5 hospitals if you're not going to looked after the same!
lottie sorry to hear you've had a bit of stress today, I hope it's only them playing safe, let us know how you get on xxx

cookielove · 01/05/2014 19:56

Ok gonna call up the dr's and book in with my community midwife for my next appointment!

Bananapickle · 01/05/2014 20:40

I can't figure out the whole appointment thing and this is my second!! I was told I needed to book a 24 week app but I've just looked in my notes and as it's my second I don't need one until 28 weeks. On the other hand my midwife said that I need to get my Mat B1 form for work at 24 weeks and they need to examine me to do this. So I am very confused. Although I have just realised that I'm not in the country at 28 weeks so I'll use that as an excuse if they ask. Will mean there will be 10 weeks between appointments as my next one won't be until 34 weeks which feels really close to my due date.
I have booked my appointments myself, the midwives don't really take responsibility for you until after the baby is born and that is when they start arranging everything.
I don't think it is very well explained, especially if it is your first pregnancy. I can't believe it is so different over the country when it's supposed to be one NHS!!
Hope everyone figures it out :-)

Evening all

Just wanted to say a massive thanks for wishes of luck before the scan. It really helped - especially as I was so nervous beforehand that I was sick! It all went well though and we are now Team Pink! The sonographer said they'd only seen boys for the past couple of days as well, which was interesting.

When i went there for my booking appointment at 12W, the midwife told me you will have three appointment here (12,28,34) and for the rest you should go to your local midwifes;

Nazly, this smells like it is quite frankly bullshit, as I'm in this situation with my local services being in a completely different authority to the hospital I am attending. Its about 40 - 45mins drive (there are at least 5 or 6 hospitals that are closer!).

I am seeing my local community midwife based at my GP as advised by BOTH the hospital and the local community services. In fact the hospital actively encouraged me to do so, so I had someone more local but said they could provide the same service at the hospital if I preferred! It does seem that it is unusual to use this combination of hospital/local services but not unheard of. My local midwives have had fun finding the right part of my notes and have simply said they don't use this hospital's system very often, so they take a little longer to check them properly.

Neither seem to have the slightest problem with it; both said it was better for me to have certain appointments with one and certain with the other which is a bit of a pain and a bit confusing, but its manageable. I've just had to book a couple myself with the relevant place as and when I'm supposed to (but most of the time the next one at that location has been arranged during the current one at that location).

To illustrate the point, about just how fine they are with the situation, I am higher risk for diabetes so my local midwife phoned the hospital during one with her (from the number in my notes as she wasn't familiar with the procedure at the other hospital) to arrange the hospital appointment to ensure it was done as she thought it was very important for this particular test due to my risk factors. I have also been offered access to additional services at both hospitals if I wanted to go to them (ante-natal classes etc) - entirely my choice.

Not one question has been raised about it, nor one eyebrow lifted. If there was a problem with how the NHS pays then, I simply wouldn't be able to do this would I? Whether there are agreements in place between the two authorities which don't exist everywhere else I don't know, but its always been my understanding that you could chose to access maternity services of your choice and were not restricted by which area you lived in, hence I didn't have any concerns about doing this myself. (Information that was given to me by my GP).

I would try and investigate further in your shoes.

holls2000 · 01/05/2014 21:05

I'm the same - midwife and gp are in one trust, hospital is another. They offered me the choice and were fine about it. Midwives happily send stuff and phone the hospital for me. Only prob is that sometimes my consultant can't access blood test results on the comp if they were done at gp/mw but mw just sends me paper copies to take with me.

As for appointments, I had booking then 16 weeks, then will have 24, then 32 then every 2 weeks I think is what happens. Our drop in is great.

Isn't is scary how different each area is?
