Had my 24 week mw appointment today, my usual midwife was off and the one covering was horrid Sad

She was obviously in a hurry, didn't both to ask me how I'm feeling, give me a chance to ask any questions or look at my scan results and explain those to me (all of which my normal midwife would have done). Then she told me off for not booking my antenatal classes (they are all daytime at our local hospital, and time off work isn't practical (I know I'm entitled to it, but that doesn't mean it's doable)) and sent me out the door all in about 5 minutes.

Only got to listen to heartbeat for about a minute too, which is the bit of the appointment I look forward to. Then to top it off I went to reception to book my next appointment and another patient proceeded to have a go at me because she thought she should be seen first! Ended up crying my eyes out all the way to work and now sitting here with a headache.

Hope you are ok teabiscuits

whiteblossom · 05/06/2014 12:25

oh misog! stand in mw are useless. have some Cake.

I hope you told the other patient to p*% off.

I had my GTT this morning so no news is good news but if I do have it I'll find out next week. fx I don't have it.

misog2000 · 05/06/2014 12:56

Fingers crossed for you whiteblossom

I would normally have told the other patient to do one, but knew I was going to cry and was trying to hold it together till I got out of there so just kind of looked at her blankly! The really annoying thing is I am sure I am supposed to be booking myself on a place of birth workshoppy thing at 28 weeks (I want a home birth) and I can't remember who I am supposed to contact to do this! Was going to ask today but didn't get the chance, might call my normal midwife next week and ask her.

Thanks for the cake, the girls at work made me tea and brought chocolate, then regaled me with the stupid things they cried over during pregnancy so I feel a bit better now.

Teabiscuits · 05/06/2014 13:09

Thank you everyone. I talked them into letting me out last night, got home and passed out on the sofa! They are not so sure it's an infection now, they don't know what's wrong with me! It's been going on for weeks, every now and then I get awful pain in my kidneys and then wee a load of blood (sorry if tmi!). The doctor last night would only let me go if I would be able to go back asap to see the consultant. Consultant is over booked, I have been promised a phone call today to arrange something. Surprise surprise I've not yet heard anything...

misgog poor you, I've had that before, when you are basically shoved out of the door feeling completely bewildered. See if you can make an appointment sooner with your usual one Thanks .

As for pethadine, I have had it in all 3 births, the only one that it caused a problem was the 3rd one. I'd only had it about an hour and a half before he was born, and they had to give ds the reversal drug as he was very sleepy. However he also had the cord around his neck 3 times and it had been a horrific labour for both of us, so it might not have just been the pethadine. This time I hope I can do without it as it was only in my last birth that I really got the hang of the gas and air (take it till you pass out!) I probably wouldn't have had the pethadine if it had been a straight forward labour - it was more the experience I was trying to escape from rather than the pain.

My advice would be never say never. Just see how you feel at the time.

whiteblossom · 05/06/2014 13:33

Only 9 days until 3rd T. Grin

ilovemonstersInc · 05/06/2014 15:07

Ive had pethadine with both. No side effects here.

Blossom its a nice milestone to reach!! I was happy to see that im officially in 3rd trimester this week Grin I have a growth scan next Wednesday. Might have to drive myself. ... arghh not looking forward to it!

topmammy · 05/06/2014 19:14

At how many weeks does the third trimester officially start? Can't remember!

Got a sore back today, too much bending down at work :(

Glad you got home tea Hope you get a consultant appt soon.

cookielove · 05/06/2014 19:21

Hello all, California in two days whoop whoop!

Just need to pack now!

misog sorry to hear you had a tough time!

tea how frustrating, hope it gets sorted soon. Is baby ok?

ilovemonstersInc · 05/06/2014 19:37

Top on the baby centre app it says 28weeks

ooo cookie can I comw with you please Grin

cookielove · 05/06/2014 19:48

:) of course!

Nazly · 05/06/2014 21:19

I was just checking baby centre app to see updates on size, etc of a 27Weeks baby and just browsed to their Sept due date forum and saw a post about somebody's baby being delivered at 27 Weeks! No medical complication that I could find, all very natural...

I am suddenly shocked as to how close we are, I am in third Trimester next week and our flat is not organised at all, it is actually a mess in the middle of decorating, Baby's stuff are not bought yet, not even the car seat- I have no birth plan and haven't got enough knowledge on anything, no class and no birth related books as yet, and last but not least: of course no hospital bag as yet!!

And My energy level is going down, after a good few weeks... So I should get organised really...

Nazly · 05/06/2014 21:25

Does anybody do a more physical job here? I was on site yesterday and was on my feet between 1:30 ish and 6ish without one second rest, no break, no seating , nothing; and got up and down many staircases! I felt I was doing Ok but towards the end it was awful and while commuting back on train I felt baby wants to come out! I don't know if any of you have difficult physical jobs (my day admittedly was extreme as the young men I was with were all exhausted as well in the end) but I feel for anybody who has to be up their feet for long...

Teabiscuits · 05/06/2014 21:36

cookie thankfully baby is completely oblivious of my kidney issues! Kicking and wriggling around like mad in there as usual Smile . I am V envious of you going to California, I went as a kid and even then was amazed at how beautiful it was.

DearDinah · 05/06/2014 21:38

Evening ladies, just wondered if anyone has heard of one to one midwives? I've just come across their website and see that their services are free? www.onetoonemidwives.org/ It seems too good to be true?
nazly your job sounds tough, be careful you don't too much!

Ella ive never heard of that before and ive always ate deli meats with the 3 of mine no problem. If you've ate it before pregnancy then im sure its ok. I dont think it's not ok if ive not too

velvetlilithi · 06/06/2014 07:05

Nazly I have a physically demanding job as well. So far I was having 11 hours shifts on my feet which was killing me. When I got home I just passed out on the sofa and didn't feel my legs. I had just a little irregular breaks, so sometimes 7 hours without any food. No one there understood that in a pregnancy this is not healthy, so they stressed me even more.

If you need to do longer shifts or stand a lot on your feet, make sure you get enough rest and time to eat. And don't take NO from boss as an answer. It's your right.

velvetlilithi · 06/06/2014 07:19

DearDinah You're right it sounds too good. But it would be really nice. Unfortunately, I don't think they operate in Scotland Sad, at least I didn't find anything about them offering service everywhere.

DearDinah · 06/06/2014 07:50

velvet that's a shame, I came across some old mn threads about them & they were trying to raise a petition to get the service rolled out across the whole of the UK, apparantly 121 benefits patients & MW's alike & since the wonderful government we have seems to be chopping up the NHS as quickly as possible it can't come too soon

xxmissbrightsidexx · 06/06/2014 11:11

Morning all Brew
Hope everyone's good, isn't it a gorgeous day xx
