Hi everyone, we have run out of posts on our last thread so hopefully we'll all find this one easily enough.

Here is to more positive 12 week scans and enjoying our second trimesters, all feeling more human hopefully!

Hi, just found this thread and excited that now I've had my 12 week scan I can start to relax and enjoy the next stages! It's funny seeing it jump and move so much when you can't feel anything yet.
This my second DC and this 1st trimester has been tougher (maybe cos I'm running round after 19 month old DS who has unlimited energy!) and I've been quite nervous about the baby being ok so it was huge relief yesterday to see it.
Just wondered if anyone has recommendations for books on siblings so I can start to understand any issues I might face-like rivalry etc. my DS is loving and kind but I know may be unsettled by the new arrival.
Thanks x

Northernexile · 13/05/2014 16:05

Thanks elliekins! That's a lovely positive story, and I'm sure your friend is delighted! I never really got to 'do' labour last time, no contractions at all even after being induced, so I'm really hoping to have a go this time, even though I could have an elcs if I want one. I just think with a toddler a VBAC will hopefully be an easier recovery than I had last time.

Hi music, I'm on my second, and I feel a bit more tired this time round too. DD is 2.2, and I have also been mulling over how to deal with preparing her. No top tips yet unfortunately, and don't think I'll start speaking to her till after the 20 week scan.

TwigletFiend · 13/05/2014 16:16

Hi Music, welcome and congratulations!

Having felt really quite normal all day, I have suddenly had a major crash in the last hour. Headache, nausea, dizziness, terrible heart palpitations. Ugh! Think I must be having a real dip in BP. Struggling to concentrate at work and also managed to rather humiliatingly fall off my chair when I reached to lean on the desk and missed. Feeling a little better now, but was a truly horrid half hour or so. Waaah! Sad

Hmm, Bean was hardly moving at all during my scan. A bit of leg wiggling, but that's it. Are they normally more active by the time you have your second scan? Would be nice to see a bit of movement etc. next time Smile

alita7 · 13/05/2014 16:27

Twiglet maybe see your GP if it's that bad, I've been wondering if I've either had low BP or low blood sugar recently as I get light headed when I first get up in the morning, even just sitting up in bed, but not palpitations or anything!!

I think movement depends on how they feel that day and what you've eaten and drank, mine was quite active but then I'd had half a bottle of Lucozade before going in :P

Miskate · 13/05/2014 16:36

Lucozade for the win!

weeonion · 13/05/2014 18:18

northernexile - i will be back over home in NI in a couple of weeks... on the same land mass as yr good self Smile

elliekins - great to her about yr pal and wow - that was a FAST labour! eek - i knew lots of 2nd labours were quick but that was super fast. If mine goes that quick - doubt the birthing pool will be filled, my doula will have arrived and mw team there. better get dp up to speed with delivery Grin

HI music - congratulations! I too have found this pg much much tougher than 1st and it seems a common experience with (an)other DC to consider.

twiglet - that sounds grim. maybe speak to your gp or mw - especially if you are feeling so faint?

from what i remember - there was alot more movement on 20 week scan. it wasnt routine back then to have a 20 week anomaly scan so we paid private for it - it was a 3-d one which meant it was all so very clear.
I could clearly feel her movements by that stage and it was a bit strange to feel the movement whilst at same time seeing it? I remember a tickly feeling and on the scan - dd was "stroking" the inside of my womb. Her facial features were very clear too - DP said - oh my god - she has your nos, which when she was born - she did! We have it on a dvd as well Smile

posy - how you doing this evening??

utopian99 · 13/05/2014 18:54

Ooh I second musicandbooks' question - ds will only be 23 months in nov but loves books and I'd like to find a way to prep him. He loves all the 3-5year olds we know; dh and I were saying we should have a second dc miraculously born OLDER than dc1!

Am also slightly worried about speed of second births - ds was recorded as 1.45 hrs active labour (we reckon 6 hours from noticing I was having contractions though,) but that means this one could be faster. Crikey.

posy and twiglet, how are you feeling?

Whenwillwe3meetagain · 13/05/2014 18:58

Evening all. Has my 12 week scan today which was fab and my due date has been put back a day to 20 November.
My sciatica is not getting any better though and my osteopath thinks it could be a slipped disc! Will go and see dr and see what he thinks I should do next. Anyone have any experience of slipped discs in pregnancy?

bunnykitten · 13/05/2014 19:11

Wombat, my screening test came back as 1 in 650, which is worse than I was expecting, but I have reassured myself that it's categorised as low risk and still something like 99.8% chance of not being a problem.

BrandSnob · 13/05/2014 19:17

Hi Ladies, can I join in the fun?
I've been an avid lurker since thread 1 as I promised myself I wouldn't get fully involved until I had my 12 week scan, due to a MMC in 2011. I was too scared to get caught up in pregnancy stuff again until I was sure everything was fine. Scan last week confirmed first DC is due 13 Nov, so all this pregnancy stuff is completely new and confusing to me. Smile

StudyFullTime · 13/05/2014 19:40

welcome brandsnob some of us are already mums so feel free to ask any questions Smile

alita7 · 13/05/2014 20:01

Welcome brandsnob! x

Polkadotscarf · 13/05/2014 20:11

Ah Posy, poor you...I hope all is well soon.
This thread is so reassuring in the strangest of ways, it's just good to read what every one else is experiencing especially as it's my first and I am terrified of anything new!
I finally have the smallest of bumps, not noticeable to anyone but me and partner but a bump all the same!
15 weeks today!

WheresMrMonkey · 13/05/2014 20:13

Welcome!!!

BrandSnob · 13/05/2014 20:21

Thanks

I agree polka, there are times I thought I was going mad with my symptoms but at least now I know I'm not the only one.

weeonion · 13/05/2014 20:26

Hi brandsnob! Congratulations.
There is a mix of first, second and third(possibly even fourth) timers on the thread. We all have lots to learn!

PosyFossilsShoes · 13/05/2014 20:36

Evening all! Well, I'm still in hospital but a lot pinker than I was. Not had my scan today, hopefully tomorrow. DP has brought me a whole pile of books, plus a stash of ginger biscuits and some pyjamas. I'm now managing to drink water and with the assistance of some kick-ass anti-emetics, even eat some food. Fingers crossed for a scan and a discharge tomorrow, and fingers even more crossed that the scan's ok. My mum has just been in to see me and has reassured me that the baby will be fine though.

Nothing more on whether or not this is actually appendicitis though so I assume the second blood tests came back free of infection markers and nobody's told me. Either that or I'll go pop in the night.

Tigsy · 13/05/2014 20:47

Sorry to hear you are having such a dreadful time Posy but glad you're in the right place and getting help! Hope you're feeling a lot better soon.

Twiglet only just caught up with this but definitely not unreasonable to expect dp to have some time off with you! There was a possibility (and still is) that my DH might not get any paternity leave (not through his own choice) and I flew into a panic when I found this out. I had visions of us coming home from hospital and the next day him going back to work and me being let at home with a new baby and no clue as to what I'm meant to do!

Haha Lady I could have written your post. I've put on a lot and am too scared to get back on the scales again! I was the same as you and it seems to be overeating to combat the nausea that kick-started it. It is upsetting me a bit to be honest, but trying to put it into perspective and remember this is the only time in our lives we shouldn't really be worrying about putting on weight. That said, I'm determined to get healthier now the nausea is better and really need to start doing some swimming or something- just need to find some motivation first. Will have to be first thing tomorrow though my new healthy start kicks in as DH is picking up KFC on his way home tonight Blush

RandomInternetStranger · 13/05/2014 21:10

Hi BrandSnob! I read your name wrong as in Brand's Knob and nearly died! Images of Russell's willy in my head! I realise now it is spelt wrong and has a capital S but it amused this small mind for a few minutes! Grin

Amyrose82 · 13/05/2014 21:18

Lol Random! Grin

Welcome to the group Brand Snob, another due date buddy!

And Posy, glad to hear you're being looked after! Take care of yourselfThanks

Northernexile · 13/05/2014 21:37

Fingers crossed you get out tomorrow posy, glad to hear you are feeling a bit better. Hello brandsnob! Wonder how many of us are on this thread now- it must be about 200!

Whereabouts are you going to be weeonion? I'm in deepest Tyrone, think everyone else is in England or Scotland apart from me and greenstone. Still getting used to the fact that we can't have things like the nuchal test here, which seems mad, but there you go.

BrandSnob · 13/05/2014 21:40

Yay! @ amyrose

I was originally due on 16th, but was moved up 3 days after my scan. Not sure how as I ovulated 4 days late, but hey I'll run with it

amy83firsttimer · 13/05/2014 22:04

Welcome BrandSnob! I have mental image of your newborn in all branded items like something from the 80's with Chanel logos everywhere!!!

Tigsy · 13/05/2014 22:17

Haha Random!

Hello Brandsnob!

weeonion · 13/05/2014 22:29
