Posy - that sounds terrible. Hope you are ok and will check in later to see if you have been able to post an update.

Heres hoping sickness, dizziness and headaches give every a break today.

Its a rare sunny morning up here so fingers crossed we all have a brighter one. X

ladydolly · 13/05/2014 08:55

Oh god, I need help... I've gained 13lbs!!! I'm only 14+5!!
I felt so sick in my 1st trimester I only ate carbs (crumpets and cheese sandwiches mostly). I'm so scared about how big I'm going to get!
I'm eating normally now, lots of fruit and veg and off the bloody buttery bread goods. Honestly I have perspective, having a healthy baby is the most important thing, I'm not totally vain but I really don't want to have 4 stone to lose once the baby arrives...

How are you all coping? Are you worried about it?

Spannertime · 13/05/2014 08:55

Hope you're feeling a but better today posy.

StudyFullTime · 13/05/2014 08:58

posy hope you're feeling better soon.

Mathssssteacher123 · 13/05/2014 09:12

Anyone got any remedies for hayfever?! My eyes are stinging so bad!!!!

RandomInternetStranger · 13/05/2014 09:38

Lol lady! I gained 6.5 stone last time from 7 stone to 13.5, size 6 to 18, (I'm 6' tall) but it all dropped off again afterwards. By 4 months after I was down to a 10 and 9.5 stone which was fine, without trying. I had to get active to shift the last stone and got down to 8 stone and an 8 over the next 6 months, and then it stayed off. This time I've not really measured myself but I put on about a stone between 6 and 10 weeks when the mw weighed me. Suppose I'll find out today at my 16 week check how much more I've put on but it doesn't feel like I've put on much. I don't care anyway, my body will do what it needs to do to grow a healthy, happy baby and it will drop off afterwards with running around and just not being ravenously hungry anymore.

RandomInternetStranger · 13/05/2014 09:38

For half ever try local honey, worked on my ex.

RandomInternetStranger · 13/05/2014 09:38

Grrrrr hayfever stupid phone!

TwigletFiend · 13/05/2014 10:08

Maths, try to use local honey, so it is derived from the pollens in your area. It doesn't work for everybody, but it's definitely worth a try! For itchy eyes, cold teabags on (closed, obviously!) eyes is great. Can leave you looking like you've been decked in the face if you leave it for more than a couple of minutes though!

Weight-wise, I'm just not thinking about it. I'm eating reasonably healthily, though am also scoffing delicately nibbling my way through a fair chunk of crappy carbs too. Are you planning to bf, lady? That can help promote faster baby weight loss, apparently. Also, having not done this before I can only guess, but I would think Random's case is how it will go for most of us - your body is stockpiling energy and resources to last the first few weeks after pregnancy as well as during, so a fair bit of it should shift with minimal effort after that. I really wouldn't worry about it - you sound like you're being sensible about what you eat and your body is just doing what it needs for your baby Smile

No dizziness here, but I keep having heart palpitations. They've only started this week really, though I had them occasionally pre-Bean. Apparently this isn't a cause for concern unless it is accompanied by other symptoms - dizziness, sudden nausea, headache - but just thought I'd share with everyone. It might not be something to worry about on its own, but it's bloody unpleasant! Angry

Posy, hopefully they can sort you out quickly, it sounds horrible Sad

Hope everyone has a good day today and is ready for the 'heat wave' over the next few days! (We're set to reach a balmy 19 degrees down here in the Forest. Positively tropical! Definitely going to be cracking out the virgin cocktail recipes...)

PosyFossilsShoes · 13/05/2014 10:43

Still in hospital! They're keeping me in until I can keep some food down and my blood pressure improves, currently a rather less than perfect 98/55. My blood also shows an infection and the dr thinks I mayhave appendicitis. So stuck here prob for 2 days and will have a scan to check Bean is ok, and a visit from the surgeon to check my appdendix.

I know I'm poorly because I'm not worrying about work, it will just have to take care of itself.

Miskate · 13/05/2014 10:51

I've put on 10lbs! I'm in no way shocked at this though as I've been eating breakfast for the first time in my life and also not eating everything low fat. I was a bit of a militant dieter before getting pregnant and tried to keep below 1200 calories a day. Needless to say, I am obviously not doing that now, hence the gain. can't decide if I care or not, particularly as my husband has also put on 10 lbs due to his "phantom pregnancy" 5 packs of crisps a night habit

Elliekins · 13/05/2014 10:52

Just lost a really long message ??

Posy, you poor thing, I really hope you're feeling an improvement soon, that's awful. Thanks

Lady, I am terrified at all the stretching of the tummy skin will leave me with a huge, stretched tummy-pouch of excess skin down to my knees but I think this is unfounded!

Hayfever wise- I found Prevalin allergy nasal spray works wonders and it's safe in pregnancy as no steroids or anti-histimine in it.
It is £6.66 in Superdrug, (on shelves, not behind the counter - the lady told me there was nothing I could use in pregnancy, then I found the spray)

On a cheery note, I found this awesome thing for customising hand-dyed muslins/swaddles.
It's American so I don't know what freezer paper is (grease proof?) or where to buy a bleach-pen but I'm sure a washed glitter-glue pen could do the trick!
Would be a bit anxious using household bleach but I suppose if it's washed 100 times...
They look so sweet!

weeonion · 13/05/2014 11:00

ladydolly - we are all different and our weight gain will be too. some women put on loads - others not so much. Some put on alot at the start and it wont continue at the same pace throughout. Others put on a little at the start and then fairly bloom in the later stages.

The same will apply after pg - some lose it very very quickly without much bother and others have to work very hard to shift it. For some it drops off but for many it doesnt. I know alot of women who have never went back to pre baby weight, size and shape. Alot depends on your own body type pre-pregnancy.

Dont compare yourself to anyone else - it only adds to the pressure. So much of pregnancy and motherhood can feel like a competition (I think the media adds to all that - with some kind of adulation and praise being given to those who are lucky enough ( or have the support, time and money to devote themselves to a hard exercise regime) to loose baby weight quickly.) The one thing we know is that ALL of our bodies will go through seismic shifts in the next few months! Smile

It sounds like you are eating healthily and try to not get too stressed about it all.

posy - glad to hear from you - hope it all goes ok later too. x

alita7 · 13/05/2014 11:04

Aw posy that's awful! And cruel because we're all meant to be feeling better now!!!!

Guys i need you to Motivate me to do the house work and essay stuff!!!!

alita7 · 13/05/2014 11:04

Also not sure about how much weight I've put on, haven't checked on purpose :p

utopian99 · 13/05/2014 11:32

I've put on 7lbs which to my mind is fairly ghastly, (am also a bit vain) but am already eating less as sickness recedes. Also lady as weeonion says, everything is different from person to person and comparison is the evil spectre that haunts modern western parenting today.
Also Bf really helps weight loss and I was lucky enough with a bit of vigorous pramming about of ds to go back to normal weight minus a few lbs pretty fast. My overall body shape has changed slightly forever though I think - my stomach went flat again but to me looks unlike the stomach of someone who has never had children and it could be even worse after this one. The main thing is to keep eating healthy food and your body will on the whole take care of itself..

Still thinking of you posy!

Greenstone · 13/05/2014 11:49

Posy you poor old thing, that's incredibly grim. If you have appendicitis that will be 2 people now on the thread who've been struck down, v. lucky. Is your DP able to pop in and look after you a bit or does she have to work?

Not sure how much weight I've put on so far, possibly not a whole lot but I deserve to have because I'm still sitting around like a lump most evenings. I've been having healthy dinners at least which is an improvement on 1st trimester, but am currently working my way through a pile of (homemade but no less evil for it) peanut butter cookies.

lady don't worry about the weight gain, you won't gain weight at the same rate throughout the pregnancy, it will slow down and speed up at times and I'm sure it'll balance out overall.

You can be lucky or unlucky with breastfeeding, some people find it zaps the weight away instantaneously and others find it makes them so hungry they find it hard to shift the weight. I was in the former camp but it also probably had a bit to do with aforementioned high maintenance baby - got lovely toned arms from all the hefting around but would have swapped them for a bit of kip in a heartbeat!

I have a question about antibiotics and pregnancy for the medical people on this thread, if you don't mind?

I've had nagging folliculitis for over a year and it's really beginning to get me down. I saw GP last year who first prescribed Fucidin cream and then, when that didn't improve matters, a week's worth of antibiotics. Antibiotics worked but the folliculitis came back :( I am currently using tea tree oil moisturiser on the area which is only doing so much. I would love to get rid of it once and for all but v reluctant to ask for a course of antibs for something that's not urgent like a UTI. Does anyone have an opinion? It's a real scourge but maybe I'll just have to put up with it for now. And, because it's not a pregnancy-related appointment, I'd rather not have a consultation with GP for nothing because it will cost me here :)

Many TIA if anyone has a clue!

alita7 · 13/05/2014 12:14

Green stone do they give you flucloxacillin? That's what I've had for eczema. I don't know if that one's safe in pregnancy, but there are other ones they can give you that are I would assume. I wouldn't suffer for the next 5 -6 months, while I'd avoid unnecessaries, I've decided I need to get something else for my eczema as pregnancy is making it worse!

Miskate · 13/05/2014 12:37

FYI - I haven't received a letter from my hospital re the 20 week scan yet, so I rang them up to ask. Apparently it must have been lost as they had me down on the system as booked in for the 18th of June (I'll be 20+1). So if it's been 2 weeks since your 12 week scan and you still haven't had a 20 week scan date I would suggest you give them a call.

MrsWombat · 13/05/2014 12:43

My Combined Screening Test result just came in the post. It says a risk of 1 in 1000. Is that normal for negative? I'm sure some of you were 1 in 10,000?

With DS, my risk was 1 in 270 and should have been 1 in 800 as a 27 year old, which is why we had further tests then. But now I'm looking at an ok result I'm wondering if it should be better!?

Amyrose82 · 13/05/2014 13:00

Posy that's totally crappy! Really hope you're on the mend and the hospital and DP are taking extra good care of you!

Monkey - I'm with you on the heavy chest thing, at times it feels like someone sitting on my chest! Not nice! And I've got the dizziness, which is down to low blood pressure I think...

alita7 · 13/05/2014 13:21

Mrs wombat I had 1:1000000. But I think that's because I'm only 20 and not overweight etc as well the nuchal and bloods.

I think 1:1000 is fairly standard? So I wouldn't be worried, I think I just had a super awesome result, rather than yours being at risk or anything :)

Random your mum sounds awful! To leave something like that so obvious especially! I also had mum troubles last night when I went to visit, she'd been all excited when I told her about the doppler and told me to bring it over so I did. She was excited to hear it when she got in from work until she noticed dad hadn't done the washing up so she stropped upstairs, eventually she came down stairs after saying she'd be a minute ages before and I'd found the heart beat really clearly and loud, and she noticed I'd left crumbs on her sofa and shouted at me, baby swam away :( so I spent a while trying to find it again with her huffing impatiently and then found it really quietly, she listened for a few seconds said lovely and wandered off :( upsets me how she takes her anger out on everyone, she'd made me excited to show her because she'd bbeen all excited on the phone then because she was annoyed she didn't care :(

Northernexile · 13/05/2014 13:29

Just had a mega catch up on the thread, hope you are feeling better soon posy, that sounds dreadful, and I'm sorry to hear about work winter, that's additional stress nobody needs when upduffed Thanks

I have about half a stone on now, and not too worried really. At my scan last week I saw on the screen that I was a kilo and a half heavier at this stage last time, and I lost all the weight in about 6 or 7 months. It was just over a couple of stone iirc. On the topic of pat leave, I think you need at least a week with someone there full time, especially your first, because if you are anything like me you'll need the help and reassurance. I live in NI, and I'm hoping to do something similar to last time-DH home for two weeks, then DM fly over for another week or so. DM was brilliant last time. I had a semi-emergency CS, and I felt shocking for over a week, and was in a lot of pain for a few days.

On that note, anyone here had a VBAC? Have told my consultant I want one and he seems happy. Would be interested to hear anyone's experiences!

Elliekins · 13/05/2014 15:19

Ooh, Northern, great timing with that question!
My friend has just given birth VBAC a few hours ago.
Last time she had a dreadful 3 day labour followed by an emergency c-section.
This time, she had her first contraction at 6.15am this morning and had delivered a lovely little boy by 9.30am!
She had sent us 'aunties' a photo by 11.30am saying "so birth hurts!.. but look what I've got!" Smile
I haven't had full details but it sounded very quick and straightforward compares to last time so I hope that helps- I'll post more detail if you'd like when I have it.
She saw consultant two weeks ago and they agreed to aim for a VBAC and go for a c-section if more than 10 days over.
I love a positive birth story!
