Checking in to the new thread! How did I miss the rest of the last one?! Oh yes, I have spent the last week staring at my beautiful daughter every spare moment I have! Smile

Sorry to hear you are having hard times Moomin & Pixie! It's so difficult, hormones, emotions, exhaustion!

Gracie also lost 14% of her body weight by day 3 (Monday) despite me trying really hard with breast feeding. The midwife sent my OH to the shop immediately to get formula (or it would be a return to hospital). I was advised to feed her every 3 hours with a minimum of 30ml formula, to continue to try to BF & to express. I cried all day as I felt guilty & useless & a rubbish mum, that the things which were exclusively mine to look after her I was failing at:

  1. a healthy pregnancy - sick for so long, OC, high blood pressure, etc.
  2. a natural labour - early delivery due to OC & a section
  3. Breast feeding

I felt like a failure. It tied in with the day 3 baby blues so the tears kept flowing! I knew is had to do the best thing for Gracie though & I got through it.
She has since put on 5oz & is now 5lb 13oz. I am still combination feeding, but gradually the breast milk is overtaking the formula.
My milk came in (painfully) on days 3/4 & I started expressing & can now easily get 80ml each time. My cracked, bleeding nipples healed following a days break from trying to latch her on. I tried feeding her on Tuesday & it was so toe-curlingly painful I was trying not to cry in front of the midwife. We tried again on Wednesday & it was so much better! I'm not yet trying her on the breast for every feed but it is getting better. As she is now a week old the midwife suggested nipple shields as it will help my flat left nipple develop a shape for feeding & give me more confidence latching her on, getting a good position, etc.
So this morning Gracie breast fed for 40 minutes with the help of the shields & I felt triumphant! Grin
I am persevering & am determined she will mostly be breast fed, with expressed milk from bottles too & formula if needed.

Also, after not much bleeding I have had a big increase in the last few days, with clots ranging in size, and painful cramps. The midwife says it is from doing too much & although I feel ok mostly to do things I really need to take it slowly.

It's been a really tough week, both physically & emotionally, but even so it's been the best week of my life!

Sorry for the essay, thought I'd share my experiences.

Congratulations to all the babies & super-mums so far & can't wait to hear about all the ones to come! x

NannyPlumForPM · 19/04/2014 14:12

(Ironically in case anyone is wondering- pampers new baby carry packs are 3.00 on tesco direct who you can click and collect in store- but £5.99 in store/on grocery section! How mad is that?!)

One is shitting oneself..... Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh

Welcome toast! Thanks

isean thanks for sharing your experience with us. It sounds like you've been through it, but you're doing amazingly!

vikks I'm nesting today too. I'm going through our dressing room and organising all the clothes and bedding and everything else. After this, I'm going to attack ds's clothes. He has more than dh and I put together! It's going to take me forever! Having Queen's greatest hits blasting out does help though! Grin

Oh and I've made the cot up with sheets and bedding! Can't wait to see my baby in it Grin

dobedobedo · 19/04/2014 14:20

kally195 · 19/04/2014 18:12

Congratulations on all the latest arrivals - it's so emotional!

Welcome to the new folks.

Good luck for tomorrow nanny - your cheerleaders will be here Grin

Isean thank you for sharing that with us. You are doing brilliantly xxx

I think going back to work today may have been a mistake. I'm 9 hours into a 12 hour shift, and struggling. I don't feel particularly ill, but the coughing means I've had very little sleep this week. Oh well - I will talk with DH when we get home and may call in sick tomorrow.

Has anyone experienced the whole "clearing out" thing before labour starts, and if so, how soon did it start? I don't know if it is an effect of the virus, or whether my body may be slowly starting to prepare. I have also read that everything - erm - flowing more freely is just quite common in the last few weeks of pregnancy.

This next bit is probably TMI - I just went to the loo and gave myself a scare as what came out was very red. Two seconds of panic and then I remembered that I ate a big box of beetroot for my lunch... I am such a wally.

36 weeks today - it's getting scary!

MoominAndMiniMoom · 19/04/2014 18:39

good luck nanny! will be thinking of you :)

ClearlyMoo · 19/04/2014 21:06

Eeeek Nanny. Thinking of you!

Kally please take it easy! I laughed about beetroot tho! We had loads of it last summer and I frequently scared self.

I brought in red hot Le Creuset ceramic dish with pasta bake in it for tea and dropped it as I approached table. Broke one of our dinner plates, covered beige carpet in tomatoey sauce, burned my foot and made DH angry. He was very good and cleaned lots up whilst I stuck foot under cold running water sobbing. Felt like such a failure. Was trying to be a good wife as he's been fixing mouldy wall in nursery all day and I just wanted to make him dinner and couldn't even get that right!!

Now lying on sofa with burned foot it's not very serious but just smarts a bit. Think my pride was hurt!

So tired.

You can't shock babies into arriving can you?! Need to put nursery and our room back together before baby turns up!

Well since being readmitted his temperature and heart rate have been all over the place. Consultant pediatrician thinks he may have an infection so he's being pumped full of various antibiotics while being tested for everything under the sun. An infection would explain wht he's so irritable and not feeding well. poor boy has been through an awful lot today and is incredibly cranky.

And he's just done something nasty in the fresh nappy I've only just put on him. Thanks kiddo.

PixieBumbles · 19/04/2014 22:38

So busy dwelling on my own situation I forgot everyone else's posts.

Kally I spent most of last week wondering if I'd picked up a tummy bug. Sick most mornings, very...erm...loose, and just generally feeling out of sorts. Waters broke on Sunday. Just saying Wink

Good luck nanny!

snoozysleeper · 19/04/2014 22:50

Congratulations macbaby **Flowers

Good luck tomorrow nanny

And pixie I hope your little one gets better soon with the antibiotics they're giving him Flowers

LongTailedTit · 19/04/2014 23:29

Pixie I hope they're looking after you both well in Hosp and keeping you well informed - must be knackering for you both.

Clearly I think the clumsiness is unavoidable I'm afraid! You just managed to drop the one thing that could do the most damage! Poor poppet, hope your foot is better in the morning. Brew
Cling film is great for burns if the skin's broken, and if you've bought Lansinoh for your nipples it'll be v soothing on the burn (if the skin's not broken). A nurse friend pointed out to me that burns heal from the bottom up, so it doesn't help to let them dry out.

LongTailedTit · 20/04/2014 00:19

Here's TinyTit :)
He's currently asleep on my chest looking extra super gorgeous.

So, those painful Braxton Hicks I was having did turn out to be the start of labour after all... They were every 10 mins on Wednesday evening with the off half hour break, so I wasn't sure and tried to sleep it off. By 02:30 they were much stronger and every 6/7 mins, Labour Ward told me to go in once they were every 5 mins and lasting about a minute, so we went in at 4am.
We managed to have a water birth, the warmth helped me cope with the contractions (along with copious amounts of Gas & Air!), tho the little bugger decided to come out facing up - ie widest part of his head first instead of smallest! He went back up a couple of times, which I was unimpressed with... The midwife said later that if I had had an epidural I'd almost certainly have had an instrumental delivery, as it's nigh on impossible to push out a back-to-back baby if you don't have sensation. So phew I'm scared of forceps. They counted active labour as 4hrs, so pretty quick, same as DS1.

TinyTit arrived at 09:04 Thursday morning, and I brought him up onto my chest myself, where he lay very calmly for a while, they didn't rush us out of the pool.
We had to stay in for 24hrs obs due to having AntiDs for GBS, but got out Friday morning, home by lunchtime. :)

He has a tongue tie but is still managing to feed ok-ish, just making me sore! We're seeing a lactation consultant on Tuesday, hoping she can snip it then.
My milk came in today - OW. Boobs like bowling balls. Poor old DS2, must be like trying to latch on to a watermelon. I have to compress my boob to try to give him a more manageable amount to latch on.

We ended up taking him to A&E last night, he'd developed a rash over the afternoon that wasn't fading. We got triaged immediately, but still had a 2hr wait Hmm, eventually got seen by a fab doc who recognised it as a benign rash that newborns often get in the few week or so - will look up the name in a bit. Apparently it could go on for a few weeks at worst, and is aggravated by getting too hot, so we're keeping him mostly naked and the house warm.

He's just pooed again, so I'll be back another time, I'm not checking MN much at the mo due to trying to keep a balance between DS1 and DS2, really fine line there!
Good luck ladies!

PS - those of you due boys, I'd forgotten since DS1, but really, don't forget to put a tissue over the willy when changing nappies, I got squirted four times in one nappy change yesterday! Every time you think their bladder must be empty they find a bit more... Grin
And meconium poos come out like Playdoh - especially straight after a wipe, just like kittens, their poos are stimulated by being cleaned. Ds2 filled 7 wipes in one half hour long change earlier, as each time I cleaned him he produced another.

Due May 2014 the Maybies are IN THE DROPZONE!!
LongTailedTit · 20/04/2014 01:13
