Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
wuzzlefraggle · 31/08/2006 11:07

tigerlion - glad to hear that you can relax a little now, knowing that alls fine

justers - wow, u had quite the morning yesterday!!! good to hear that your dog is ok now tho.

i have a question....is it right that tonic water is meant to help with leg cramps?? i know its meant to help with something but i cant really remember what lol

hope that everyone is doing ok im sitting about patiently waiting for my breast pump expresser thing to arrive

Gingeme · 31/08/2006 12:59

Yes wuzzle tonic water does help cramps though it tastes horrid but certainly does the trick. What is pereniul massage exactly? Though Im probably stretched to my limit from the last 3 babies.
Re nighties. If you have a water birth usualy your naked anyway well thats up to you. Some ladies wear a t shirt in the pool but to be honest I felt quite private in the water if that makes sence so I wouldnt worry about posh nighties. I got a few night shirts from Peacocks that button down the front. And if your giving birth on dry land they usualy give you a hospital nightie to wear.I have never bothered with disposable knickers either. To be perfeclty honest most of it washes out and knickers are so cheap to buy these days does it realy matter if you have to chuck a couple of pairs away? I actualy have a couple of pairs of jamas too. Its just as easy to lift the front of these up to feed baby. Well lets face it your gonna be doing that with your t shirts etc anyway arent you?
Just a little food for thought there.xx

Swizzler · 31/08/2006 13:14

We were told not to being in a nightie as the hospital provide them. HTH

Seona1973 · 31/08/2006 13:21

Gingeme, this is a description of perineal massage (from babycentre):

It may help to try to increase the elasticity of your perineal muscles by doing daily perineal massage starting at about the 34th week of pregnancy. To do this, put some vitamin E oil or pure vegetable oil on your fingers and thumbs and around your perineum. Place your thumbs about 3 cm inside your vagina and press downward and sideways gently until you feel a slight tingling. Hold this stretch for about two minutes. Now gently massage the lower part of your vaginal canal back and forth for about 3 minutes. When you are in labour you can try perineal massage and warm compresses to relax your vaginal muscles.

I am a bit apprehensive about the birth as I had a second degree tear the last time - hope it doesnt tear the same way again!!

I have started washing baby clothes so I have something ready for my hospital bag and 'just in case' I am early. They look so tiny!! (Most of them are unisex vests and bodysuits from when dd was born but I have bought a couple of extra bits like sleeping bags and a swaddling blanket thingy)

catgirl · 31/08/2006 16:20

glad to hear health problems are getting resolved, and those of dogs too!

Nicand2 -hope blood pressure is ok.

I didn't bother with a nightie last time, wore a horrible hospital one - didn't care to be honest.

Swizzler (and anyone else booked into the Homerton) - did you know about the physio sessions they run for pg women? Two Thursday's a month from 2pm - 3.30pm - I plan on going to the one 21 Sept, they run sessions on how to avoid back problems and deal with back problems, take place in a room very near ante-natal clinic. I am told that if you attend a session you will be 'in the system' and for up to 6 weeks after the birth you can ring them/get an appt for advice/help, without a referral, which I thought was quite good too. Will let you know how it goes.

Please all keep fingers and toes crossed for good weather in East London on Sat - well, doesn't have to be good, just dry - it is my ds's 4th birthday party and I had planned on bouncy castle in the back garden - looks like it might be 10 kids in my living room (with parents in the kitchen!) watching 'charlie & lola' while I try to keep their mits off my new curtains, stop them going upstairs, etc... wonder if you can get valium in tescos?? Neglected 2nd child will be lucky to get a family do with us signing 'happy birthday' . Does anyone know of the etiquette of kicking people out at the appointed time (invites said 2pm - 4pm) - obviously that question is directed to Whiffy's husband??

nicand2 · 31/08/2006 17:48

Re nighties - I bought one in the mothercare sale for just under £4 it's quite a pale colour but to be honest I will just throw it away afterwards, will probably do the same with knickers if I can manage to drag myself to Primark.

Seona1973 - I have a also bought a miracle swaddling blanket but I was considering taking it back as it said it's best to keep the baby in just a nappy to prevent over heating, I really stressed about the overheating thing with DS so wasn't sure i wanted the stress of trying something new??

Is anyone thinking of getting a tummy tub? I thought they looked like a good alternative to a baby bath and I will be able to have my hands free so I can bath DS at the same time.

jmcmugwump · 31/08/2006 18:27

Hi folks, we are all rather falling apart aren't we? No ailments at the moment, apart from OH who had a temperature of 39.5 last Friday and would not do what he was told to lower it - men - they really are rubbish patients - he is slightly better now, but is off work for a week with bronchitus so I am having to do nursemaid bit - marvelous, all I want to do is put my feet up when I come in as am still working and have another 3 weeks to go, but no rest for the wicked!
nicand2 - I saw the Kim and Aggie thing, am seriously thinking of taking my flash wipes with me to give thigs the once over - will try to be a bit subtle about it but it was a bit scary, and will also keep an eye out to make sure everyone is using the hand gel before they go near my nether regions - don't want any superbugs down there!!!
Wuzzle - fyi I think tonic water is just to keep mozzies at bay (it has quinnine in it which is a repellant) but I don't know if it has any other magical properties.
Millie - I have also been having strange dreams - most recently that we got a puppy - I reported this to OH and got a resounding we are NOT getting a puppy - good job he is slightly more in favour of a LO.

Well chin up everyone - only a few weeks left to go now!

majormoo · 31/08/2006 18:29

Hi All
Whiffy you must be pleased to have at last come to a decision. My sister has had 4 c-sections. Apart from the first which was a horrendous drawn out affair, the other three were very civilised. (Mind you somehow she managed to get hers covered by BUPA!) Far more of my friends have had c-sections than the natural route and most of them seem to have recovered pretty quickly (while I was still hobbling around bruised and battered after my ultra-fast birth experience!!)

nicand2-not sure what a tummy tub is, but we will be using one of those ones that are sort of baby shaped (not sure how to describe them) rather than the big baby bath which drove me insane last time.

Well, my lovely bottom is miles better today which is a HUGE relief. It is our wedding anniversary tomorrow so glad I feel more human. Not that we are doing much-not even planning to go out to dinner or cinema-sitting in one position for a couple of hours still does not appeal!

Gingeme · 31/08/2006 19:05

Hi all. Weve just been to Mothercare and have bought one of those shaped baths majormoo. Basicaly so I can bath ds3 and baby at same time. Have bought one of those highly recomended (by mumsnet ofcourse)Tommee Tippee fold away pottys. Very impressed by how small they fold down. Will be able to fit them in the changing bag with all the other parafinalia. But the way ds is goign he wont need it by the time ds4 gets here.
Everything crossed for your birthday party weather catgirl. You do know your not allowed on the bouncy castle though dont you?
seona that pereniul massage sounds a bit erm well erm. No dont think Ill bother thanks although dh wants a demo as soon as poss typical.
Glad your bottoms as it shoould be majormoo and I certainly hope your anniversary turns out better than mine was
Well my dinners on the table now so Ill say ttfn. Take Care all xxxx

Seona1973 · 31/08/2006 19:33

nicand2 I bought a lightweight swaddling blanket from bumpto3 (using my 10% mumsnet discount of course). It says to use with the baby clothed but that you would not normally need other bedclothes along with it. I suppose if necessary you could use a sheet over the top if it got very chilly.

I bought one of the tommee tippee potties too but think dd just used it once - she prefers to use big toilets anyway and has better bladder control then me (although I dont really have much at the moment tbh!!)

I have seen the tummy tubs but think I will get some sort of bath support so that the baby can go in the big bath from the start. Baby baths are a big faff and very heavy if you have to lug them about to empty them.

Re: nighties, I have 4 from dd's birth that havent been used since so I am going to use them this time too. They were from mothercare.

DogMum · 31/08/2006 19:35

Milliee, I haven't had strange dreams (although dreams generally are more vivid), but in my pregnancy book it says it's perfectly normal to dream about giving birth to deformed babies/animals/household objects and nothing to worry about at all. Really feel for you with your mum situation coming up. Don't let anyone get to you and remember that you're the boss. Being pregnant is also a great excuse to not go to things or leave early.

I'll do a sun dance when I get of my bum, Catgirl. I'm all for a bit of dry weather.

I purposefully avoided the Kim and Aggie thing, although I have had Dettol wipes ready for my hospital bag for months now. I want to use the birthing pool, but I'm not so sure now. (Might just do it the old fashioned way and stick to booze.)

I'm starting the perineal massage at 34 wks. It's not going to be for everyone though. DP is being quite squeamish and wants to be out of the way at the time, which is fine by me - as far as I'm concerned it's medical. Just hope he won't be squeamish about the birth.

saka · 31/08/2006 20:16

Hi,

Im booked in for a c section on Oct 13th (not too sure about that...is it a friday?)..and wondered if I could join in?

Im having a baby boy and already have a 3 year old daughter.

Saka

Justers · 31/08/2006 22:20

Hi saka I'm due the same day as you! Hope you've had a relatively stress free pregnancy so far.

jmcmugwump · 01/09/2006 04:01

Hi Saka- welcome

Aargh not sure about this not sleeping thing - although no chance of sleeping whilst OH is saying things like 'they have really vivid colours don't they' yeah right whatever, when he came to apparently he was dreaming about talking to me in the garden about blackberries - and I thought I was supposed to be having the odd dreams??

Think all this not having everything organised is playing on my mind, keep thinking cots and travel systems so am going ot have to get something sorted soon or will be facing many more sleepless nights, is everyone else more or less sorted out or am I just suffering from an over exerted nesting instinct??

Well back to the www to look for more travel systesm - hopefully that will send me back tosleep

saka · 01/09/2006 08:32

Hi!
jmcmugwump, what a shame I didnt notice you online, I was up at 4am too, totally unable to sleep. Im far too uncomfortable, terrible indigestion, sore hips, kicking wriggling baby....

Um....the pregnancy has been pretty awful. Marriage broke up when I was 10 weeks, had to move country with my daughter, no family support etc. Ive been hospitalised a couple of times with prem labour showing signs of starting (last weekend was the last time...)...However, the baby is fine, which is a good thing.

Thank you for the warm welcome! Im bored at the moment, more or less stuck in. Im meant to be in bed, but cant manage that while dd is around. Friends have been coming over as much as possible and took her over the bank holiday weekend while I was in hospital. I miss her when she is gone, but she will get cabin fever in all the time with me.

Im looking forwards to getting to know you all!

whiffy · 01/09/2006 09:30

Saka, sounds like you are really going through the wars. feel free to spill it all out on here whenever it gets to you. Rest as much as possible (easier said than done with a 3YO) and welcome to the physical ailment whinge-fest that is the due Oct 2006 thread...

Gingeme - thinking of you today {{{hugs}}}

Everyone - has anyone else been looking at the MN xmas meet-up threads and wondering....? I don't think I'm anywhere near brave enough to break bread with he likes of Cod and Moondog, but I thought maybe we could do a xmas party ourselves and bring all our little ones? Would give us something to look forward to but we'd have to plan it a bit in advance I guess as there could be quite a few of us...

Swizzler · 01/09/2006 10:18

Whiffy: what a good idea . I'd find a big meet-up a bit intimidating, but it would be nice to see you all with your new babies. As fas as I know, we'll be in London over Xmas (foot put down re visiting rellies some years ago).

Saka: sounds like you;re going through a tough time at the mo. Feel free to vent here! And take any help you can get.

Catgirl: can you not send them out to play in the rain? I'd try a sun dance, but I'd probably fall over

Any tips for avoiding getting too wound up? I'm alternating between stressing about minor stuff (sympathise with the sleepless nights, jmcmugwump) and getting irritated at the slightest thing (DH was BREATHING FUNNY this morning ). Tried lavendar oil, but not strong enough - might be joining Catgirl on the valium.

Still, 3 weeks to go at work! And I had my mw appointment yesterday (1.5 hr wait, then got to see gp instead) and the baby is head down and 3/5 engaged - so something to smile about. Plus it gave the gp a big kick when he was prodding about.

Have a good weekend all.

Gingeme · 01/09/2006 10:21

Hi saka and welcome. Know what you mean about trying to rest with a toddler. Almot impossible.
Thanks whiffy but my ds's actualy went yesterday and Im so shocked that I wasnt more upset. Their Dad picked them up about 2.30 and they were looking out of the window every five mins to see if he was coming. My eldest ds got a bit over excited Wed night and was up a couple of times with tummy ache and was awake at 6am yesterday morning.
I suppose becayse Ive had more or less 8 weeks to get used to the idea I was ok about it.
Christmas meet up sounds good. KNow what you mean about some of the other ladies on here though. Im sure their all lovely people but....
Got my step son coming later. Staying with us for the weekend. Better get to Tescos soon as hell probably hungry as usual.
Take Care ladies. xx

catgirl · 01/09/2006 11:06

Thanks for the sun dances/thoughts ladies ? not looking good at the moment, but it is the weather and can change like, well, the weather! Keep dancing! I will not stress I will not stress I will not stress! Glad it is Saturday and not Sunday otherwise the whole weekend would be taken over by it, this way I can relax on Saturday evening/Sunday. At least this baby will have to have indoor parties so we can plan accordingly! I agree, I can?t go on the bouncy castle, dh did when we first got it (it is a small one from ELC, half price in last year?s sale!) and ripped the side ? guess who spent ages sewing it back together?!

Welcome Saka, hope things settle down for you. A very good friend of mines birthday is on Friday 13 October, so a good day I think! Where abouts do you live ? if anywhere near me (Hackney, East London) and you fancy some company for your 3 year old just let me know, we are not planning much between now and end October.

Might try the massage this time ? didn?t last time and did tear, but didn?t need stitching.

Had a couple of very strange/vivid dreams last night ? first one was that baby arrived 2 weeks early on 16 Oct ? dh just about made it in time to see the head come out! Second one was that the baby had turned completely and its legs were pointing down and its head was just under my boobs (so it looked like I had a middle boob!), and you could feel it all really well ? all very bizarre, but amuses my dh and ds over breakfast!

Xmas gathering sounds great to me. Have broken our golden rule about not travelling at xmas and are heading up north to in-laws ? by dh?s gran is nearly 90 and can?t travel to us anymore, so she won?t see the baby otherwise. But that is just over the xmas holiday period for a few days.

Wishing you all lovely, and healthy, weekends! After today, 4 weeks left in work ? shouldn?t count down but I am!

Emmy: Topshop have some nice printed dresses at the moment - am planning on a rais this afternoon as I have a party to go to at the weekend.

clon · 01/09/2006 12:31

Hi all,

Gingeme glad the handover went ok and you're not feeling too down about it.

Welcome Saka, sounds like you've had a rough ride, I hope the happy times are coming back for you.

Emmy I also have a wedding to go to on the 30th, I was going to leave getting an outfit to nearer the time to see how much I have balloooned by then!

A xmas meet up sounds like a great idea, it would be lovely to see all the new arrivals.

Happy Friday everyone!

marthahm · 01/09/2006 12:44

hello saka, i'm due the same day as you, although obviously yours is a given and the rest of us will still be waddling around sighing!
glad things are better with the nether regions majormoo.
whiffy, can't remember if i already said this as losing brain power, but gutting that your baby has turned breech and o/p-highly talented athlete obviously. it does sound like a good idea to have c/s planned after last birth i think, although hard to come to terms with. your dh sounds impressive for getting everyone to leave at 9.30 hope catgirl has the same luck with her party.
my friend has lent me her baby bath. it fits on top of your own bath and even better, it has a plug so you don't have to lift it at all to empty.
have been looking at more maternity nighties. are the mothercare ones cotton? do they get stained from feeding as well as everything else? is it worth having something that opens easily for feeding? really have no idea, go into moronic gaze when go into any shops and come out with nothing.
re aggie and kim, i know a woman who got down on her hands and knees with dettol and rubber gloves to clean before she would carry on with her labour at st mary's paddington. i think we could have found a role for all of the oh's during labour.
i didn't realise the washing baby stuff was due to chemicals from manufacturing. am i getting obsessive or should i try washing the footmuff for the pram? it looks all fluffy and new but maybe it is full of chemicals??

marthahm · 01/09/2006 13:17

with lack of brain power, didn't refresh the screen so had only read up to last night when posted.-i was also up at 4 am after bizarre dreams about my dh's boss catching the baby when it fell down the stairs.
saka sounds like you've had a shocking time. as the others said feel free to vent here.
