sallyrosie · 20/09/2006 09:23

Re the little bottles - boots do them as well, I have some for my labour bag.

Feeling less grumpy now - saw MW yesterday and she refused to see me again till 41 weeks (miserable witch) when she would do a membrane sweep and then refer me to the hospital.
Figuring that by the time she'd done that I'd be about 42 weeks before I even got an appt at the hospital I called them directly this morning and now have a 40 week appt with my consultant who so far this pg haven't met but saw after my dd was born and had nightmare episiotomy and she was just absolutely lovely. Hooray. And then I don't need to see evil MW ever again. Well, apart from the home visits after LO born, but maybe I'll just not answer the door...[evil smile emoticon]

totallyfloaty35 · 20/09/2006 09:27

hi ladies,i not posted for long time, glad to see you all doing well.Im fed up with being pregnant to!
re the question about the Amby nest,im using a grobag with mine.
Im not very organised either,im having a home birth and still not got round to buying my birth pool

Popsi · 20/09/2006 09:35

Congratulations to all the new arrivals!
Thanks for tip on Superdrug - am definitely off to there tomorrow.
Had a midwife appointment last week (at 34 weeks) and she said baby is breach at the moment - but hopefully it will turn. I know that most of them do turn but now I am paranoid that it won't! Did anyone else have this? I really really don't want to have a c-section- the thought of it freaks me out.

sallyrosie · 20/09/2006 09:43

Popsi - don't worry you've got a while to go yet. Have they offered you an ECV to try and turn the baby?

Gingeme · 20/09/2006 09:45

Ah well done Whiffy. 7lb good weight. Love the name too
Glad youve discovered the little bottles. They are such a good idea.
Know what you mean about feeling thirsty sallyrosie Ive been drinking squash by the bucket load the past couple of days only to be closely followed by heart burn. Thats whats getting on my nerves at the moment. Talking of which.,while I was swigging yet more Gaviscon before going to bed last night I said to dh'I wonder if this stuff affects babys appetite later in life!'. The reason for this thought was my 1st and 3rd ds I suffered with terrible heartburn and basicaly lived on Gaviscon and they both have excelent appetites and will eat just about everything whereas with ds2 I didnt have morning sickness or heartburn and he is a realy plain eater and quite fussy too. Just a little food for thought there. No punn intended I assure you.
Well I hope you grumpy pregnant ladies have a good day. Not long now..... xx

Popsi · 20/09/2006 10:23

No ECV offered yet - have next appointment in 2 weeks so I guess they will see what's happened then.
Gingeme I know what you mean about the heartburn - the Gaviscon doesn't seem to be making a difference anymore. last night DD woke us up at 4am and I was basically puking up stomach acid - nice! But trying not to complain too much as is only nasty symptom I do have (apart from the obvious tired, grumpy etc)!

clon · 20/09/2006 10:29

Hello all,

Wow what a lot to catch up on.

Congratulations to all whose babies have arrived, one month to go for me and I really don't want to be early!

Gingeme I understand what you mean with the heartburn/indegestion, I got it for the first time Monday evening and couldn't sleep at all, it was horrid! Had no magic formula on hand either!

I think I may have also had my first Branxton Hicks, lated about 45 mins, stomach went really hard at the top and waves of pain/discomfort.Really bought home the reality of having to go through labour! God I hope it's short! ha ha

I'm off for a mw checkup so catch up later.

totallyfloaty35 · 20/09/2006 12:32

im expecting my 3rd child, another girl on october 13th,sorry dont know how to update stats.
Braxten hicks not supposed to hurt, maybe you actually in early labour
have finally ordered tens machine and birth pool which means i will definatley end up overdue.
to the lady with the breech baby, try accupuncture,it has quite a high sucess rate.

Seona1973 · 20/09/2006 14:35

I have had my 37 week mw appointment today and all is looking ok - baby still head down and 3/5ths engaged (whatever that means - but is quite good for a second pregnancy I think).

My next appointment is not for 2 weeks so I will be almost at my due date by then. I havent had too much heartburn but it does tend to hit at about 2am which is a pain - have just been crunching on Rennies as I dont like the liquid indigestion reliefs.

Have got my slippers and my Tens machine has arrived - I still need to get measured for a nursing bra and I still need to pack my bag so I am not very organised. I am also debating whether to get my hair cut and coloured one last time before baby arrives as I wont have much time afterwards. I'll add it to my to-do list!!

Congratulations to the latest new arrivals

Gingeme · 20/09/2006 15:28

Glad all is well seona. not long now then eh? Go on treat yourself to a nice hair cut. A bit pampering while you still got time. I was thinking that this morning about booking a cut. Going to get my nails taken off tommorrow. I have arcrylic nails and wont have time to get them done once lo is here so having them removed. Gonna get my toe nails painted one last time too.
Totaly I had acupuncture last October cause my periods were non excistent because of the depo injection. They soon returned and January I fell pregnant so Im a big believer in it. I heard it mentioned it can bring on labour too. Do you know if this is true? If so Ill book an appt if I go overdue.
Clon and I was so jelous when you said you werent suffering. Know what I mean now? Horrid isnt it? How did your check up go?

Mellylou · 20/09/2006 15:47

Hello to everyone!

This is my first post on Mumsnet. My baby is due on Oct 30th, it's my first and we decided not to find out the sex, although everyone seems convinced it's a boy.

Feeling very tired and uncomfortable at the moment. Not supposed to finish work until next week, although I've had yesterday and today off because someone drove into my car yesterday morning. Thankfully me and bump are fine (I insisted on them taking me to hospital to make sure!)

majormoo · 20/09/2006 15:50

congrats Whiffy. Love the name. Hannah was one of the names we liked if this one had been a girl. Hope she is doing OK in special care and you are recovering OK from C section.

Hi TotallyFloaty-funny as I was thinking about you yesterday and wondering how you were, as you were one of the first ones on the thread months ago.

Popsi-my baby was lying accross until about 34 weeks. Was head down at my 35 week scan, so hopefully there is still time for the baby to turn. I spent ages sitting on my birthing ball but no idea if it worked or not. Try scrubbing the kitchen floor!

Milliee · 20/09/2006 15:51

Gingeme · 20/09/2006 16:09

Yes they realy are Millee honest. If your worried about temp you can buy some real cute room thermometers to put in the room babys in. They have the correct temp written on them so you dont go hotter or colder.
Welcome Mellylou. Another uncomfy first timer. Sorry to hear about your car.Hope there wasnt too much damage done. You and little one are ok so thats the main thing.

totallyfloaty35 · 20/09/2006 17:05

Hi all,yes accupuncture works pretty well if your overdue, therapist i see does about 3 inductions a week,am also seeing her about my big swollen feet!
also anyone in sussex area, there is a fab osteo called simon who is based right next to Hove stn,he really sorted my SPD & Sciatica out,it had got to the stage where i couldnt move without sobbing in pain,he was great after i see him i can belly dance again, but the best bit is he is half price if your pregnant and until your baby is 2 months old

Gingeme · 20/09/2006 17:08

Just one more question totaly. I assume they use needles to bring on labour. Do they just do your front? When I had it before they put them in my back as well as my front! Had chinese massage too which hurt like hell but felt fantastic when they finnished.

Rumpel · 20/09/2006 17:20

Hi everyone! Congrats to all the new Mummys !

I've only about 10 days to go now - although am thinking baby may come early as am colossal and keep getting braxton hicks. My pubic area is very sore at night now with the weight of the baby - i am going around holding onto my ladybits - it's very attractive. A touch of SPD methinks. My Oh came home from working away last week and gave me a cold so have been feeling very sorry for myself this last week.

My midwife has been seeing me every week for a while now - is this not routine elsewhere in the UK? I have no idea what to expect in the hospital as they have stopped doing tours here. They were supposed to be sending out interactive dvds but they aren't ready yet.

I was looking forward to a pedicure (and bikini wax) this week but had to cancel due to stinking cold so will just have to try to reach my own toenails. Is it true that they still prefer you not to wear nail poilish in hospital in case anything goes wrong?

I can feel babys head encroaching into my pubis now - it is very peculiar - waddling along and feeling like you need to pee all the time! My baby has been head down since 30 weeks - obviously it must be comfy down there!

Isn't it weird when baby gets the hiccoughs?

People who have already had children - are maternity pads best or is something like always super with wings better?

I too am scunnered with pregnancy - it is truly horrible and lucky you if you enjoy being pregnant

I have never felt so awful as I have this past ages ( feels like aeons) and have gone from quite active person to couch potato with no visible jawline anymore!
Still am really looking forward to seeing what baby looks like - keep trying to imagine baby's face!

totallyfloaty35 · 20/09/2006 18:26

Gingeme, they do them in your back,i have had homeopathy in my last pg to bring on baby, that almost worked, had contractions for a day but then they stopped. Will probably try every natural therapy to start this one off if i go over as dont like hospital inductions, your whole labour ends up very managed.
However just had 2 very painful contractions,am praying they come to nothing though as got builders here, husband away and no birth pool yet,so NOT ready

Gingeme · 20/09/2006 18:40

Thanks totaly Iguess you must lay on your side then!?
Yes Rumpel Super absorbent Always towels are just as good as maternity pads. Probably half the price too. Same as breast pads realy theyre all more or less the same. Tescos own or Johnsons all do the same thing and you change them just as often if you leak.
He he yes it is weird when baby gets hic cups. Feels very strange getting little movements every few seconds'down there'.
Your contravtions are probably Braxton Hicks totally. Dont start panicking just yet.

majormoo · 20/09/2006 18:47

i thought someone said on here before that there was a reason you had to use maternity pads-to do with clotting or something-but could be wrong? Sure I read a thread on it

Last day of work tomorrow and felt a bit sad today (typical!) went out for lunch, got a couple of presents and lots of well wishing emails. Still, sure I won't miss it next week, when I plan to watch This morning and other daytime TV, while DD is at nursery!

jmcmugwump · 20/09/2006 19:09

Is anyone else having to pee 10 times a day? I know I am very sad to have counted, but am desperately looking for any sign that will say LO is thinking about putting in an appearance, for the last 4-5 days I seem to be peeing all the time, is 10 times a day alot or not?

Will see midwife tomorrow so am hoping head is engaged please please please....

Also for those of you worried about your mattress ref waters breaking (andyour sofas and car seats) pampers do a sort of matress protector training thing (I got mine in Tescos) and it is about 1m x 1m square and £5 for a pack of 7 - might also come in handy to protect your sheets after LO is born in the event that any of us might get some sleep and our delightful maternity pads don't quite do their job

marthahm · 20/09/2006 19:53

good job whiffy, well done and good name.
jcmugwump i think i am peeing about 10 times a day. i tried to count but couldn't work it out on account of fluffy brain. it did change between last week and this though and i know the baby is now an extra fifth engaged. however, saw mw yesterday who said still have at least 4 weeks to go so poss. not a huge indicator of iminent arrival-but it is one step closer.
today i struggled with challenge of working out how to put car seat into car. gave up quickly and will wait til knowlegable next door neighbour shows me how as she's lent it to us.
any of you with experience think there is any point having an extra pushchair to keep at the in-laws in the country? we've been offered one by my cousin and dh thinks would be good so london one doesn't get mud on. i think he might be being a bit of a ponce on this one even if they do live on a farm. surely can't be that much of a pain shoving the maclaren in the boot of the car? what do you all think?

Tigerlion · 20/09/2006 20:02

Congratulations to Whiffy - love the name.

Re the maternity pads, I was told last time that normal sanitary towels have a gel in them that can irritate you down there, whereas maternity pads are more pure without chemicals in them. When I did wear some STs last time from having run out of maternity pads, it did feel a bit itchy but that was maybe because I thought of what I had been told. TMI I know, but thought you may want to know if you have not yet bought your towels.

I too am feeling so massive and hope that taking DS for lots of walks in his buggy will bring on labour. We have quite a few scans and tests on him in the hospital following his operation last week and despite my telling the hospital that I am due on October 9, they seem to have booked everything for October 10 and 11. I tried phoning up to change the appointments today and after half an hour gave up, having been put through to absolutely noone. Aaarrrggghhhh! I pity whoever will see me when I physically go into the hospital tomorrow to change the appointments...

Saw the doctor yesterday and found out that I have varicose veins in areas where I thought you could not get them so am in agony from that. Apparently delivery will cure them. I am getting many less movements from baby now but is this because it is so big now with very little room to move around before I start getting paranoid?

Is anyone packing blankets in their hospital bag or should they have some at the hospital?

Hope you are all coping as well as you can

Gingeme · 20/09/2006 20:37

Marthahm it is a good idea to have a buggy at your in laws. Not because of the mud business(rolling eyes) but basicaly it leaves alot more room in your car boot. My parents live in Kent and they have a spare buggy there which is brill. Leaves us so much more room.
lol Tigerlion at your veins. My dh said that the other day whe I had my nighty on. He said 'blimey looks like youve been punched down there!'. Thanks love make me feel even nore feminine and beautiful wont you darling!!
I have packed one baby blanket just in case its needed on the way home but they have plenty in the hospital while your there. Presuming you mean baby blankets.
