welcome mellylou! I'm due on 30th aswell!

I've heard something bout maternity pads aswell, that non maternity 1s can give u an infection or something like that??
Also heard somewhere that u shouldn't wear nail varnish, why though???
x

girlygale1 · 20/09/2006 20:53

Tigerlion - the hosp do provide blankets, but, if you'd rather have your baby in your blankets with your smell then I'm sure they wouldn't complain if you brought in your own! I've packed one, but not sure why really, suppose its a sentimental thing as I packed it for dd and want this one to have the same ... any one else like that - even want to wear the same shirt I did in last labour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (sado!)

Re buggies; I keep a spare one at my mums, but that is purely down to convenience, but it does make sense to have one that can get mucky and one for 'best' (crickey I am getting paranoid!)

Re; painted toe-nails, I've not heard about having no polish on before - why do they rather you didn't? I've just been over mums and got her to do mine!! (can't even see my feet let alone trying to do my nails!

Re; weeing - I don't go so much during the day ... but at least 10 flaming times a night!

Just over 4 weeks left for me - years yet!!!!!!!

Now, my midwife has recommended that I don't take raspberry leaf jobs until I am 37 weeks, but I am desperate to get baby out, would I be REALLY irresponsible to start sooner? Is anyone else taking them before 37 weeks? I'm sure I took them earlier with dd - can't remember to be honest. What would you guys do?

nicand2 · 20/09/2006 20:59

Just noticed a thread about Kat she's in hospital and she sounds quite poorly, how frightening for her.

nicand2 · 20/09/2006 21:04

... Its in the health topic

nowanearlyNicemum · 20/09/2006 21:33

god, poor Kat, it must be dreadful being separated from little Tilly.

well done you, Whiffy. hope you're recovering slowly but surely and that little Hannah's lungs are on the mend. please let us know how you're getting on.

had my pelvic scan yesterday afternoon but wasn't able to see obstetrician. have to wait til next Thursday. have calmed down a bit after my previous outburst and have been finding loads of info on internet to back up my discussion with consultant next week.

am also weeing for Britain - particularly at night. hoping that all this 'pressure' means that baby has his/her head in the right place and means business

poor Kat-will read her thread in a minute.
Girlygale-I have packed same t-shirt from last labour too!
Tigerlion-poor you and the varicose veins. Pregnancy is just so glamourous!
jmcmugwump-I wouldn't worry if head isn't engaged. I remember feeling pleased with myself when DD was 3/5 engaged at 37 weeks-she eventually came after an induction 13 days after my due date so it's not necessarily an indication whether anything will happen quickly.
Milliee I was totally clueless before having DD and remember worrying I wouldn't have a clue what to do but somehow you muddle through.
5 hours of work to go!

clon · 21/09/2006 11:52

Hello all

Gosh I haven't put mail varnish on my toes since I was about 6 months and I couldn't reach them anymore!

Check up yesterday was fine head is down and 4/5ths.

Yes Gingeme I can fully sympathise with you now re indigestion, I should have kept my mouth shut ha ha!

Sorry to hear about Kat she was doing so well. Hope she is home soon.

Off for lunch with a girlfirend, have a nice day all.

majormoo · 21/09/2006 11:58

milliee-I haven't had a natural labour as was induced but don't they say call when contractions are 5 mins apart? I'm sure one of the others will know, but I would have thought it would be tough for you or your DH to judge when you are 5cms dilated???

Millee,im having a home birth too, midwife said to call when contractions 5mins apart or when i start to feel very out of control. There is no way you will be able to tell how dilated you are!!

DogMum · 21/09/2006 14:19

Blimey, I didn't log in for one day and loads has happened. Congratulations and well done to Whiffy. Hope Hannah is soon able to join you.

Popsi, I read somewhere that you can 'encourage' your baby to turn by shining a torch 'down there', playing music 'down there' and getting dp to talk to the baby 'down there' (although that one might ruin your sex life forever.) I don't know anyone who's tried any of these things, but they seem reasonably low risk. My cousin watched the Poseidon Adventure (the old version) and the baby turned when the ship did.

Seona, if in doubt get your hair done. There'll be loads of photos and you might not feel like getting it done for a while after. I've got an appointment two weeks before my due date. I'm seriously crossing my legs until then.

Marthahm, I'm afraid your pushchair question is far too complex for my mush-brain at the moment. I'm expecting to get mud on my London one, as have a dog. If you're going to be there often, it seems like a good idea. Our car seat is still on the wardrobe, although I've asked dp to put it in the car just in case.

I've washed all the baby stuff. It looked really weird having such tiny things on the drying rack and I can't imagine actually having a baby in them. Does ironing muslin squares count as nesting or is it normal? I'm also not going to mention that I haven't had heartburn yet. Partly because I don't want to get bashed over the head with a load of Gaviscon bottles and partly because if I get smug, I'll be next.

Milliee, I've never done this before either, but I'm pretty sure you need a midwife to tell you how dilated you are. I'd phone her and get her to clarify.

Gingeme · 21/09/2006 14:20

Afternoon ladies. Ive never heard of anyone having to take nail varnish off as part of labour. Iknow they cover your rings if you need to go to surgery but thats any kind of surgery. Oh well I have none on now anyway as I had my acrylic one taken off today. Just back to boring eau natural now But I did have a pretty pink put on my toe nails which will have to last till I can reach them again! They did wish me luck with the baby and told me to come back to show him off.
Never heard of that one millee. Ive never had to see(or feel for that matter) how dialated I am. Always thought the mw did that. I was told about every 5 mins between contractions or until it hurts too much to answer your dp if he asks if your ok! I dont think toud be able to tell anyway unless your clued up on these things. Doubt if youd be able to reach anyway
Glad your check up went well clon. Keep taking the Gaviscon love.
Well take care all. Im off to scrub the bathroom as ds is having his kip and I ve got my parents down for the weekend. xx

DashingRedhead · 21/09/2006 14:25

Milliee, I feel the same about DH - don't think he will ever fancy me again. He's offering to do perineal massage as I can't reach and while it's very dear and loving of him to offer, I have absolutely NO feminine mystique left now and I haven't even got into labour yet.

However he countered with the worry that if labour is really awful, I won't love him anymore, so at least we're worrying together, albeit about different things...

I agree that you should phone your midwife, that sounds like a mistake to me!

totallyfloaty35 · 21/09/2006 14:30

Thanks Dogmum, seems to be huge mount of babies expected around the 9-14th.Although i think there is a full moon in early oct so we could all go off then

i bought it,its from made in water and cost £55.
Cant put it up yet though as got my puppy living in the lounge and she will probably chew a hole in it.Had pedicure today(on my hugely swollen feet) have also booked a wax for wk before my due date, although dont know if i need one as haven't seen that area for weeks now!
Am all in favour of having as many hair and beauty treatments before the birth as people keep taking pics of you and baby and there is never any time afterwards to get to salon.

Gingeme · 21/09/2006 15:35

Just curious as to why people buy birth pools! I realise there is a time limit on a hired one and if you go overdue you may have to pay extra but what are you going to do with it once youve had baby? Suppose you could use it as a paddling pool for your little one when its older. Same as I never understand why people buy their wedding dresses. I hired mine looked beautiful for the day and handed it back. My sil bought hers and she says shes so fed up with having to keep moving it around cause its in the way. Oh your all going to shout at me now arent you? Think Ill get my coat

Rumpel · 21/09/2006 15:46

Hi everyone! Thanks for the info about nail polish and maternity pads. I think I will invest in some more maternity ones as normal ones can be quite irritating anyway. I thought the nail polish thing was a bit out of date - I know they used to insist years ago for ops and things, but I too, thought it was okay in labour. I think I will compromise and French manicure my toenails and have fushcia or red (very trendy this Autummn apparently) on my fingers.

I was at the MW this afternoon and baby's head is engaged and ready to rock'n'roll! I am hoping to go at the end of next week, am still recovering from the cold so don't feel I have the energy to endure labour just yet.
I am getting a reflexology tomorrow so will be asking the therapist to work that endocrine system! I am also going to start using acupressure next week on induction points. I am terrified of labour (fear of the unknown and abitlity to cope with pain, fear of tearing etc etc) however, am soooo pissed off being pregnant and uncomfy that I just want to feel 'well' again!

I am feeling quite lucky after reading other people's comments as I only had heartburn at the beginning, and I can reach my toes, with a bit of manouvering! No stretchmarks either!

Unpacked our 'travel system' today - mmm makes it a bit more real and slightly overwhelming to think that soon there will be a LO in there!

I think it is a great idea to have a spare buggy at the IL's saves you having to flaff around packing.

The waterproof bed protector thing - I was in Boots yesterday and they had disposable mats you can put under yourself after having baby - to stop you marking the bed if you leak. They were at the maternity pad area and the bladder weakness area - near the adult nappies! Tee hee!
Hope none of us need those after the birth - work those pelvic floors ladies!!

My DH is a real sweetie and would do most things for me, however, I would never, ever ask him to massage my perineum - he wouldn't anyway as he is squemish - he doesn't even want to cut the baby's cord he thinks the whole thing is bleurgh!
I think he finds the pregnant me slightly scary and defo not sexually attractive at all! It's okay though as I nursed him and saw him at his worst when he spent 4 months in hospital just after we married after a RTA. So now he is reciprocating!

Rumpel · 21/09/2006 15:52

Gingeme - maybe people don't want to use a 'used' birthing pool - they might think it's yucky or something? Some people just want everything brand new foe their LO - not me I bought loads off of ebay - to save cash and recycle. I got my wedding dress (skirt and basque)made for me - to my specifications. I designed it myself and it was gorgeous - purple velvet with a matching cloak. It is hanging up in my parent's attic. The thing is I may wear it again at some point. I know what you mean about the traditional dress though - can't really use that again can you? Don't know about you but there is no way my Mum's dress would have fitted over my thighs - never mind anything else! Sentimental reasons I suppose, to keep it.

Gingeme · 21/09/2006 15:59

Yeah I guess your right Rumpel. My Mum actualy cut her wedding dress and used it as a christening gown for my sister and I and later on various grandchildren so I guess there is something to it. and thanks for not shouting at me he he.

wuzzlefraggle · 21/09/2006 16:14

ATTENTION LADIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

there is a thread in the chat section called "i think ive found a troll"...i think it may be worth taking a little peak at..make sure you all read through what the ladies are saying as(all be it unfortuantly) it does make quite a bit of sense
