Welcome back Kat - glad you and DD are doing so well

Nicand2 - my gran suffered from dementia, and to start with it can be quite amusing - sleeping past her train stop and such like, but at the point when things become dangerous for either the person suffering or those around them something really has to be done - If your mum is reluctant to contact SS because she thinks they will whisk her straight into a home (which presumably your mum doesn't want) there will be other organisations who your mum (or you) could contact who specialize in dementia and they could probably offer practical advise (such as turning the gas off at the isolating valve) on how to make your gran's stay as long as possible and as safe as possible, and also advise at what point she needs a greater level of care which may be as 'simple' as some form of home help for when your mum needs to leave your gran in the house - but all that said you need to talk to your mum and let her know your concerns as DH is right you have to put your DS first even if it will cause a bit of aggro with your mum.

Sorry for long post ;) & good luck

sallyrosie · 19/09/2006 13:52

Welcome back Kat - I joined this thread just after you'd given birth but caught up with your story. Congratulations on becoming a mum and good luck with school. At risk of sounding like patronising older person it will be worth it in the end (although it is awful leaving them when they're so tiny and helpless!) Your mum sounds fab (from other thread) and really really proud of you (as she should be) so I guess she's a great help. Glad your LO is doing well.

Nicand2 - sounds a nightmare situation. Even if your mum doesn't want to 'put your nan in a home' she's going to need some help as it doesn't even sound like she's safe to be left for a few hours while shopping etc. Just a thought but my gran had similar situation with my granddad a while ago and there was some charity that would come and sit with him while she went out for a while. Your mum def needs to contact SS though, because things have a tendency to reach crisis point and then it is a nightmare to sort out in a hurry, far better to plan in advance. I can see your DHs point of view and really really hope you manage to get something sorted out.

Fab news from Saka, so glad everything went well. Keeping fingers crossed for news from Whiffy.

Am fed up today - don't see the point of my MW after appt today. I think I could go in, tell her that I was suicidal and was about to murder my daughter and she'd still write 'well, no concerns' on my flipping notes. Hopefully will go into labour soon and won't have to go back again (my dd from my dates was 26/9 and I am convinced it was right even tho scan said 1/10)

Take care all...xxx

hana · 19/09/2006 13:59

should I start an Oct postnatal? not really right to be in Sept even though these few babies came earlier than expected.....??

wuzzlefraggle · 19/09/2006 14:56

really am glad that alls going so well Kat xox

midwife app went well yesterday.

is anyone else getting really achy all the time?? I think i'm in the grumpy stage of pregnancy lol

hope everyones feeling ok

Gingeme · 19/09/2006 15:09

HI Kat soounds like your doing well. You seem to have taken motherhood in your stride hows your dp coping with the little oe? Bet hes chuffed to bits isnt he?
Glad your appt went well wuzzlefraggle. Yes Im realy achy now especialy my thighs and hips and groin areas. Worst in the morning when I first wake up. Been getting rather alot of headaches too can only take paracetamol which is the equivelant of eating smarties in my opinon.
Been falling asleep about 2pm too. Just dropping off in the chair which isnt like me at all. Just lucky my ds is having his nap too about that time.
Apart from that everything else is ok as I hope all you ladies are too xx

Swizzler · 19/09/2006 15:38

I think I've been at the grumpy stage of pg for, ooh, about 8 months . Getting a bit achy too, especially in the mornings. But I'm not complaining cos tomorrow's my last day at work! Although I am stressing about all the stuff that needs to be done in my absence - I'm sure this will all seem irrelevant once LO is here.

Nicand2: sounds like a tough situation. No advice, apart from going with what is right for you and your DS. Family politics can wait awhile.

Finally pointed out to my Dad that turning up immediately after the birth with a carload of family members was NOT a good idea - think I got my point across tactfully. I'd love to see him and Mum (for a short period) but I don't want to deal with grandparents and other visitors just after I give birth. Time enough for them later on.

Just realised that I have no baby vests - are they essential?

Right, off to check the birth announcements for Whiffy...

sallyrosie · 19/09/2006 15:40

Gingeme - codeine is ok too for your headaches
Hope you feel better soon.
I am also achy and grumpy and falling asleep in afternoon - only to wake up feeling hungover and even more tired, then can't sleep at night...grrrr....

wuzzlefraggle · 19/09/2006 15:54

so im not the only one then?lol. ive been sat here wondering if im going insane with how grumpy ive been lately. rain seems to be my fave weather too

i seem to be achy around the groin area a lot too. not nice at all is it?

XxXKatXxX · 19/09/2006 16:13

Well hes been amazing! lol if he cant do something for her then he feels left out and unwanted! so hes been really good!family have bene the best aswell! ive taken it in my sride as much as possible and it seems to get me through it!

BENDYB · 19/09/2006 17:50

aw sounds like u & dp r doin so well kat! Well done! R u still breastfeedin? I remember ur mum saying on the other thread that u did 2start with? Just wondered how its goin? oh I've still got bout 6wks 2 go by the way!

yeah wuzzle i'm feelin really achy 2! & grumpy! Just generally fed up now!! How long have u got 2go now? Is ur kitchen fin yet? x

jmcmugwump · 19/09/2006 17:56

I must admit taht at about 2pm it is like someone flips a switch and I feel so knackered - day off tomorrow so I might treat myself to a little nap - and last day on Friday wahey
I don;t htink my replacement is going to cope at all, but quite frankly NOT MY PROBLEM!!! and a big resounding yes on the grumpy front, am getting mightily p*ed off with OH as he seems to create chaos and mess wherever he goes, but just doesn't seem to see it himself, so I am refusing to pick up after him and will see how long before he starts to do something, I even asked him to bring the vac down yesterday so I could hoover the lounge and guss what he hasn't even been bothered to do that - maybe I should just wait until I can call Kim and Aggie in.....

Sorry for the rant - think the lack of sleep is getting to me!

wuzzlefraggle · 19/09/2006 18:30

Bendy - the kitchen is a very sore subject im afraid. They have told me and dh that its not going to arrive untill the 4th october (we bought it all on april 15th i think)!! im not holding my breath, but if they dare try and put off the delivery date again, i'll be in touch with trading standards. its rediculous...we only want the blimmin oven!! (rant over lol) oh and i have 5 weeks left. how many weeks have you got left?

mamado · 19/09/2006 18:30

Hope everyone is feeling ok - can't believe that we're all getting there at last. Have to say that its nice to hear of everyone else having problems sleeping. I seem to be exhausted by 9 pm, but come 1 or 2am when I without fail have to go to the loo I go from being so sleepy I can hardly open my eyes to wide awake for hours by the time I get back to bed! I do remember it as just the same last time - think it must be to make having a new-born wake you up seem like a nice option!

Huge congratulations to all of you who already have your LOs in your arms - it really quite exciting hearing of all the new arrivals.

One other thing - my bump seems so much smaller this time, and haven't had a mw appointment for weeks, do you think I should be worried that I'm not getting much bigger [now 37 wks], or maybe its just last time I went 10 days over so still go nearly 5 weeks to expand fully?!

girlygale1 · 19/09/2006 20:03

Hi everyone - glad to hear that all is great with you Kat - enjoy every minute, it goes far too fast ... UNLIKE PREGNANCY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am seriously seriously hacked off with it. Hate every minute and want this baby out now. I have 5 flaming weeks left, and will probably be the last of us all to drop. Can't sleep, can't turn over in bed, pelvis is shot to pieces, back is agony, bump is huge, dh totally not interested in me at all, house is a mess, dd has suddenly turned into a nocturnal beast (maybe a little harsh, but keeps waking up! and totally grumpy next day) still working, and put on shed loads of weight to try to shift at the end of it all.

Oh the joys the joys!!!!!!!!

Sorry for rant ... gonna have some ice-cream now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HOpe I haven't pulled everyone down now xx

Thanks everyone for your advice. I was really cross with DH last night for ranting that ds wasn't to go there and making me feel worse but now I've calmed down I whole heartedly agree with him and actually I feel less stressed about telling my mum to come here than I would do if I was worrying about ds being at their house. Hopefully everything will go smoothly and we won't need a baby sitter for too many hours anyway.

Yes agree about the grumpiness, aches and tiredness in afternoon. I seriously considered phoning the doctor this morning and saying I can't take i anymore but then i woke up a bit and thought 'get a grip' we're nearly there now!!!

sallyrosie · 19/09/2006 21:14

So glad I'm not the only one fed up! Had been feeling as though I should be all warm and fuzzy about it when in reality just sick sick sick sick sick of pregnancy. Have been looking at loads of sites about inducing labour and so many seem to say 'don't know why you would want to hurry nature along don't let your consultant bully you into induction...' Are there really people out there who want to go beyond 42 weeks? I know that induction is not risk free (had one last time) but still...
Is there any word from whiffy yet?
Milliee: no idea what a nature nest is but sounds interesting. I am planning to use grobag straight from birth - didn't get one last time till she was older and it was so fab have bought smaller size this time. No putting baby back into a cold bed and them inevitably waking up plus means they can't get blanket over their head (seriously panicky mum me...)

majormoo · 19/09/2006 22:29

hello-I am another fed up as well. As DD was 2 weeks late, I could have a whole 5 more weeks to go (37 weeks today.) I was still loving pregnancy at this stage with DD, but this time feel so much more tired/emotional/uncomfortable etc. Felt dreadful yesterday and spent the evening chucking up. Had a day off work today to recover and feel a bit better but still pretty odd. Hope I have just caught a bug as was worrying I had listeria/toxoplasmosis when I started feeling sick and running to the loo yesterday! Still only 2 days of work to go.

Hana yes I reckon start an Oct post-natal thread as there are a few of you now. Doesn't matter that it was actually Aug/Sept that some of the babies arrived. We could have some November ones too!

Gingeme · 19/09/2006 22:51

OOh we are a load of grumps arent we? Just a little tip for those of you still not having packed your labour bag(and sorry for those of you that have) but if you go to Superdrug,as I did today, they do little minture bottles of stuff like toothpaste, shower gel, shampoo, deoderant even baby creams and shampoo. Mens stuff too. Just right if your not going to be there long if you know what I mean. Not sure if all Superdrugs do it but the larger stores certainly do. Hope that helps.

catgirl · 20/09/2006 07:28

From Whiffy:
"Quick note to let the thread know that 'Hannah Blue' was born Monday
weighing 7lb. She is in special care with fluid on her lungs but making
progress slowly. Whiffy."

She sent this last night but of course my home computer has been playing up!

sallyrosie · 20/09/2006 08:03

Thinking of whiffy and her dd - what a gorgeous name! Hope she is making good progress xxx

Couldn't get to sleep last night - husband at work and dd being a troll (I need a drink, I need a wee, I need a cuddle, I need a cushion, I need....AAAAGGGGHHHH Mummy needs some valium) Eventually she went to sleep then as soon as I lay down LO started pummelling my stomach. Having just drank massive glass of water (am really really thirsty at mo) I then felt really sick. We'd been to a cafe for tea so was terrified I had food poisoning and was going to start vomiting but eventually nodded off. Inevitably woke up too hot at 3am and then dd awake at 6 bouncy as ever. Wish I had her energy!!

I was dreaming about swimming last night so think I'm going to go this morning while she's at nursery, is so nice being weightless for a while, then have arranged to meet friends for coffee this evening. Figure the more appointments I make the higher the chance I'll go into labour. If I mess up the house and unpack my labour bag it'd be almost guaranteed!

Have a good day all you grumpy people!

BENDYB · 20/09/2006 09:07

lol at us all bein grumpy! R babies will b here soon & then it'll all b worth it!

well done 2 whiffy, what a gorgeous name aswell!
