DogMum, yes, me me me, I want to go full term (but not over )
However, have seen my obstetrician this morning and am not filled with hope. She seems to think that this baby will be bigger than dd if I go full term and therefore wants to book me in for a c-section. I have argued my case saying that dd's size had nothing to do with why I had to have an emergency c-section last time so she's sending me for a pelvic scan to see if the baby will have room to come out naturally.
Help! I so DO NOT WANT another c-section. If anyone has any ideas (or hard facts) of how I can get my obstetrician to let me have a go at VBAC I'd be very grateful.

I havent packed my hospital bag yet but have been gathering bits and pieces together and shoving them in my wardrobe e.g. maternity towels, breast pads, lightweight dressing gown (borrowed from my mum), newborn nappies, wipes, etc. I still need to replace my holey, falling to bits slippers so that is still on my list. I have washed most of the unisex baby bits I have saved from dd and also any little boys things that we have bought/inherited from family/friends, etc. The crib bedding is washed and ready as is the swaddling robe and the sleeping bags. Although these things have been done, they are not actually organised yet so still a bit of work to do. I will also be taking cosy socks to give birth in as my feet were freezing the last time too.

My tens machine should also arrive soon - in fact I've just checked my emails and it should be despatched tomorrow!! I have had word that our travel system is available to be collected so that will be a weekend job, when dh is about to carry and load it into the car. I have also started taking my raspberry leaf tablets but have been a bit forgetful with them - it doesnt help that you are supposed to take them with a warm liquid when I would much rather be slurping cold ones.

Re: birth plan - I will write one too but wont be showing it to my midwife before birth as she wont be with me at the birth anyway. All I know is that I dont want an epidural, dont mind having waters broken, want baby to be delivered straight onto me and have skin to skin contact. I would like the injection to help deliver placenta and baby to have vitamin K by injection too. Apart from that I think I will play everything else by ear. I am hoping to have a natural birth this time rather than be induced but we will see (not that the induction was bad/horrible - it would just be nice to see what a normal delivery would be like)

emzickle · 14/09/2006 14:20

nowanearlyNicemum · 14/09/2006 14:33

oh emzickle, you sound so fed up.
have you given up work yet?
is there nothing you can do to take your mind off the 'endless' waiting (or should I say weighting ) ?
it must be a nice feeling, knowing that you're completely and utterly prepared for the baby's arrival!!
talking of which, need to get back to dismantling the cot, sanding it down and repainting it...

emzickle · 14/09/2006 14:36

Ive got just over 3 weeks to go, and my pregnant companion has had her baby now, so I cant even spend hours at hers eating biscuits.

I've made them a big bacon and leek quiche though and I took it round earlier... her DH is going to pick her up from hospital now, so at least she can eat something yummy later.

but i want the baby out now... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

clon · 14/09/2006 14:51

I really don't want my baby to come early I have bought nothing just made endless lists, I won't be prepared for an early arrival!

Last day at work tomorrow yipee so I'll start organising next week (after a lie in of course)!

Good news is that we have a builder for the kitchen willing to start next wednesday - double yipee!

Wuzzle - don't tempt yourself with a banjo, this waiting can get boring you never know what you might end up ordering LOL!

Gingeme - have a great time with your boys.

Emzickle - hang in there!

nowanearlyNicemum · 14/09/2006 14:51

that's such a lovely thing to do.
hope you have someone to return the favour when you're at home juggling nappies and nipple pads!!
do some more cooking for her if it'll keep your mind off things - I'm sure she'll be only too thrilled (and her dh!) and your baby will be cooking for a little longer in the process too

OP posts:
emzickle · 14/09/2006 14:54

well i think the cooking is a result of me nesting, as ive never picked up an iron my whole life and i ironed yesterday for 2 hours, then cooked a quiche for her, and made a full roast dinner for DP and I.

nowanearlyNicemum · 14/09/2006 14:56

emzickle, fancy a trip to the south of France?
have some serious ironing, cleaning and packing that needs attention over here

OP posts:
sallyrosie · 14/09/2006 15:56

emzickle - fully sympathise I am totally fed up too and want baby out NOW. Nothing at all seems to be making ANY difference though...am getting more and more desperate but not bad enough to try castor oil yet (although everything else)!
Was up all last night with baby bouncing around and really really strong braxton hicks keeping me awake and then fading away just as morning broke and DD woke up . Needless to say we've had a very exciting day of watching TV (at least I got my ironing done) and going to local soft play centre (so she can run about and I can sit with a coffee). Just persuaded her to have 2 hr sleep so got a bit of rest but too bloody hot as usual. Please please please let me go into labour tonight!
Sad thing is that it isn't going to be any better once baby arrives. We've got months of sleepless nights ahead of us. What a cheery thought!

Poor Justers! Hopefully he'll make a fast recovery and isn't needing to be waited on. Must be nasty if he got crutches.

Wuzzlefraggle - hope the dungarees are comfy! The past few weeks anything tight around my tummy has really pissed me off so I can see how they'd be just perfect. Its the only time you'll be able to get away with wearing them so why not!

Need to drag DD out of bed or she won't go to bed tonight so better get my butt up the stairs. Bye

wuzzlefraggle · 14/09/2006 16:26

emzickle - i sympathise too. the only reason i dont want the baby to come early is because i need the decorating finished. other than that, i want the baby out lol.

ok, so is anyone else getting certain foods that they cant get enough of?? i seem to have gone from a choc/ice cream hound to a curry fiend!! hot curry too. think i'll be doing me and dh a chicken madras tonight. i should be easing up on the hot currys tho i suppose...i heard somewhere that it can kick start labour...whether theres truth in that tho i do not know

sally - i can vouch for them being super comfy
and clon - ive given myself a stern talking to about the banjo, i promise lol that would scare the hell outta dh for a start lol

emzickle · 14/09/2006 16:50

would castor oil work then?

what are the effects, does it not give you a serious case of the runs?

nowanearlyNicemum · 14/09/2006 16:55

castor oil sounds a bit drastic to me girls.
give the babies a chance to get here under their own steam first

OP posts:
emzickle · 14/09/2006 16:57

I have no intention of taking any... the prospect of sitting on the toilet for hours on end in the early hours of labour do not appeal to me right now cheers.

Considoring eating a seriously hot curry though, going for a long walk and having a bath...

nowanearlyNicemum · 14/09/2006 17:17

curry sounds good to me too - haven't found anywhere to get a good one over here and really can't be bothered to make my own this evening. maybe tomorrow...

OP posts:
Gingeme · 14/09/2006 17:22

Most of these are old wives tales Im afraid though Ive been told sex and stimulating the breasts can bring labour on because of the hormones or something in the semen softens the uterus. WEll thats how baby got there in the first place after allFor all those ladies afraid of poohing in front of your midwife I wouldnt recomend the curry or the castor oil as yes they do give you a case of the runs. My sister did with her first ds and she warned me not to eat Mc Donalds to soon before your due date either. The babys will arrive when they are good and ready ladies. Try to be patient. They sure are worth it in the end

jmcmugwump · 14/09/2006 17:38

4 weeks to go tomorrow - yay - I am seriously starting to get to the 'i've had enough' stage now - not that being pg has been very bad, but I want my body back. Such simple pleasures such as turning over in the middle of the night, picking things up off the floor, sneezing, and going upstairs without having to thik do I really need to do this? Although I expect i will gain a whole load of other things to contend with - not least a new born, that according to the health visitor I saw yesterday at AN classes says they want to feed every 2-3 hours!!! - I had bargained on every 4 hours, but every 2-3 hours - someone please tell me this isn't true...

saka · 14/09/2006 17:58

jcmugwump...yep..it can be true...my dd breastfed, and it was every two hours for the first 3 months - or on demand, which sometimes meant that every two hours was a little optimistic, then every three hours until about 5 months or so when she weaned...gradually got it down to 4-5 hours....

All babies are different...and I dont know about formula fed babies...

sallyrosie · 14/09/2006 20:17

Stimulating the nipples causes oxytocin production, a hormone that causes the uterus to contract - it can sometimes kickstart things.

Semen contains prostaglandins, chemicals that can help to ripen the cervix. Said to be more effective taken orally. I'm not that desperate (yet)

Castor oil is meant to work in the same way as curry etc - it irritates the gut and causes it to contract. Sometimes this can also start contractions in the uterus. It gives you pretty violent diarrhoea though.

I know baby will come when its ready. The problem is that I'm ready now!

re BF - my daughter fed continuously until my milk came in, then every 3-4 hours for the first few weeks, then longer after that. You can 'train' them to sleep through for longer periods eg 11-6 fairly early on tho and the early hassle is worth it when you can feed at night without having to get out of bed (assuming can persuade DH to get baby out of cot) or even turn on the light, and being able to feed whenever and wherever!

nicand2 · 14/09/2006 20:52

I've been feeling really sick and light headed since 5 o clock, I've felt so bad I had to get my mum round to put ds to bed as dh is still working She mentioned that it can sometimes be a sign of labour. My braxton hicks have been intensifying a bit in the last couple of days. I'm sitting here really still trying to feel for any little cramps. I can't deny that I would be very pleased for labour to start tonight!!

Have any 2nd time mums had labour start with nausea? I'm trying not to get too excited as I'll probably be hanging on until mid October!!

agrimum · 14/09/2006 21:30

I am so glad i am not the only one with a complete pillick for a husband. Mine jumped out of the tractor and sprained his ankle on some uneven ground. Crawled indoors wanting lots of sympathy and first aid. And is now hobbling around complaining it has made his knee hurt as well. MEN!

Oh my god, last night i had the most horrendous cramp in my thigh. All I could do was scream, could not move or do anything else. Felt like it went on forever, I have had a few nights with cramp in my calf, but this is the first time there. Anyone else had this experience?

Tried to get bag sorted today - but ended up with 3! one for labour, one for after and one for baby. Should I get one big bag or keep with 3 small? As a first timer, what happens with your stuff in hospital, do you go straight to delivery suite and take everything with you, then drag it all up to post natal ward. I have no idea.

BENDYB · 14/09/2006 22:23

agrimum i was also thinkin that bout the bag! Mine has ended up as a suitcase! Its quite a small 1 tho, but yeah where does it go? Do u keep it with u the whole time??? I'm now thinkin of splittin mine up into a couple of bags, I feel bit silly goin in with a suitcase!!! What does every1 think???

hope ur ok nicand2!
