emzickle · 13/09/2006 15:27

my god this PG seems to last forever...

Gingeme · 13/09/2006 15:51

Good afternoon ladies. Im gonna try to make the meet up. Dh isnt sure what shift hes doing but might be able to change it if interferes with the time.
I have seven weeks to go and feel totaly selfish Rumpel. WEnt shoppping and my ds wanted a wee and so did I (just for a change)there was a bit of a que for the loo and ds was saying wee wee wee over and over so I didnt bother waiting and pushed in front of the que . Not like me at all. Oh well tough innit. Sure no one wanted a preg lady or toddler wetting the floor.
MGTS why does your mw say no to a waterbirth?

sallyrosie · 13/09/2006 15:53

Thanks for the tip Rumpel, am bouncing on my gym ball and will try the acupoints when finished typing!
Interesting comment re student midwive. I had similar experience in first labour with a medical student, she was lovely and really interested, stayed long after she was supposed to go home to help with the birth, went and made my DH a cup of tea and even came to the ward to visit afterwards.
She had the time to stay in the room and support in a way that the MW didn't cos she was looking after someone else as well.
So don't rule out having medical or midwifery students - they can be really quite sweet and helpful!

DashingRedhead · 13/09/2006 16:26

Am feeling quite cross - though I know I shouldn't. Someone just said to me in the lift 'Gosh, it's flown by, hasn't it, can't believe you'll be finishing work soon!'.

FLOWN BY? I FEEL AS THOUGH I'VE BEEN PREGNANT SINCE THE DAWN OF TIME!

Sorry about the shouting, but needed to get that one off my chest!

I will admit to feeling v selfish, but at the moment am simply unable to think about anything except the whole birth thing. Nothing else interests me. I am finding it hard to concentrate at work. On the positive side, have just started training my maternity cover!

KATGOD · 13/09/2006 16:28

Swizzler - I signed up for Fly lady - it does work if you do it in bits, but she sends about a zillion emails a day including one sayting have you had your lunch!! I've got the book and take the "no more than 15 minutes at a time" philosophy to new levels. It is good to have a guide, but think some people bit extreme - or maybe they just have a lot more clutter.
Council have refused planning for our new bedroom and bathroom which causes me to panic - serious decluttering that will take a lot longer than 15 mins is going to be needed to fit everything in. Have decided SPD is dependent on how much or how little I do in a day, today is not too bad as have not done much. Re recent topics:
had Vit K injection - don't think oral offered: did not have cold feet, hospital boiling hot: slept ok, too busy staring at baby to read any magazines: snax for DH - yeah right, like the canteen isn't downstairs: flip flops - essential - wear them in the shower. Another thing - i had mothercare supposed breast feeding nighties, but my boobs got so big I cldn't breast feed in them and was advised by nurse to take them off. this is not a good look when FIL there. So this time I will be taking DH's old shirts for afterwards as well as birth. Re birthplans - mine just said baby on my tummy asap post birth. How can you prepare for something you have no idea about? Probably if I'd written one out episiotomy wouldn't be on the list of things I'd have wanted. But when the dr says the baby is getting distressed, I recommend an episiotomy, I wasn't about to argue with him....
Might be able to make meet up will check diary and mobility levels. And stress levels re potty training - finding that v tough at mo. off to the potty training thread now!

MW said no to waterbirth as had cs almost 8 years ago and risk of rupture....
I have written birthplan because its my body and my baby. i dont want them saying things like, oh well, we have waited long enough, lets break your waters, or give you a cs, or induce you etc etc. I obviously state that i dont rule out anything on the grounds of a medical emergency, but after having 2 induction nightmares and being clamped to a CEFM for hours and hours on end whilst the midwife wandered off to deal with someone else I wanted to have a bit more control this time. Obviously, with SPD I know that labouring in water is just going to help me so much, but midwife seems to be old school, flat on your back for hours type of women. God help me!

Gingeme · 13/09/2006 18:28

Good luck with the potty training KATGOD. I know how hard and frustrating it can be. My ds is 29 onths and is dry all day now. He goes on the toilet too which is a great relief (no punn intended) as I dont have to take a potty everywhere with me now. He had an accident on Tuesday at nursery yhough and poohed his pants. The play leadre said not to worry its because he was so engrossed in what he was doing.
Oh dear MSTG sorry you wont get the cahnce of a water birth.Im still going to wright a birth plan even though I just want to be in the water till baby arrives. Hopefuly no pain relief and to feed him straight away. Thats about it realy. Well Im off to my neighbourd for coffee.
Have a good night ladies. Take Care xxx

nowanearlyNicemum · 13/09/2006 21:01

hi all
good to hear you're all hanging on in there despite the usual end of pregnancy aches and pains - some worse than others by the sound of things.
saka, good news that your bleeding was nothing too serious - cyst draining sounds painful though. things really can only get better for you, can't they?
had a shock this morning as I had a show - I think that's what it's called in English. In French it's called a 'mucus cork' - lovely, isn't it?! Spoke to midwife briefly as I thought it was quite early (not due til Oct 22nd) but she didn't seem overly concerned. She did say that she didn't think I'd go full term though which is good news to me as last time I went over and had to be induced. Have my final scan tomorrow morning so am sure obstetrician will let me know what stage I'm at. Not ready to give birth just yet, thank you very much. Feel like this baby needs a bit more cooking first.
re the socks debate - I took a pair with me last time thinking 'I am NEVER going to need these' and I was so pleased I did. Despite being boiling everywhere else my feet were like icicles. Weird, isn't it?

girlygale1 · 13/09/2006 21:30

'nicemum' Oh my goodness - my mum had a show with me and my brother and maximum of 5 hours later she was in labour (although I have heard that it can take 2 weeks after the show). I am very selfish but ... I am so jealous!!! I want to stop being pregnant now!!! Have really really had enough!!

Good luck - (I'm due 23rd so am at same stage as you), must keep us posted as to how you are!!

Popsi - thank you for your thoughts. Scan went ok -(as expected!) they said that she weighs about 5lb.1 oz already!!! oh dear that's gonna hurt if I go full term or over. And that it couldn't be a more 'average' baby!!!!! I had this with DD - and they said the same thing that as I'm tall I measure a smaller bump!

Anyway - glad everything is ok.

Saka glad it is nothing serious.

nowanearlyNicemum · 13/09/2006 21:48

girlygale - glad your scan went ok. my show was at 8am this morning so I've beaten the 5hour bit!! I seem to remember having it about a fortnight before dd was due - and even then she wan't ready to come out so I don't feel too stressed. Although I can feel the head pressing down heavily now and I can no longer find a single position that's comfortable to sit in - am lying down on the sofa typing this

chubszuki · 13/09/2006 23:59

hi all,
glad you all doin ok apart from normal discomforts! I had last scan today (35+3wks) everything was fine baby weighs 5lb4oz mw says it feels quite big! tell me about it! also found out its a boy, dp very pleased about that . stopped work this wk thank goodness got bad back pain, got a support belt thingy from physio today so il see if that helps. I feel so disorganised n unprpared for babys arrival, what should i be doing??? this is my first so im clueless
xxx

DogMum · 14/09/2006 08:21

DashingRedHead, I feel like shouting too. Why does everyone have an opinion on how big my bump is and when the baby is going to turn up? No one seems to think the baby is going to wait until October, although it certainly isn't coming any time soon according to my mw appts (but hey, what do they know? - they've only spent years of their life training and have everyday experience of these things. Surely an old lady with a dog knows more!)

Gingeme, don't people allow toddlers to the front of toilet queues anyway? Women who've been pregnant themselves(and know what it's like) tend to allow pregnant women to the front. And it was such a relief to hear that you're not planning pain relief for your 4th baby. I was quite chilled about the birth until our antenatal teacher got a dairylea container out and said it was 10cm. It looked bigger than that to me. Anyway, I'm now thinking that the pushing stage is going to be excruciating and might consider staying in the water. I've said I want to use the birthing pool for pain relief only, but once I'm in there, possession is 9/10 of the law. There's only one pool at the hospital, but mw said that even if someone's using it when I get there, they'll just let her finish, clean it out and I can get in. (Really sounds as though water births are quicker!)

Thanks all for your hospital bag tips - will dig out flip-flops, socks, trashy magazines and dp's shirts.

DashingRedhead · 14/09/2006 10:02

Dogmum, my lovely midwife said to me 'In all the years I've been doing this, I have yet to hear of an expectant mum being told "Oooh, you're just the right size"'. And she's right, people are always telling you that you're big or small or something. It's like you become public property when you're pregnant. Grrrr.

Am in foul mood again today - decided to drive into work today as have lots of baby stuff to pick up from lovely friend. It took 3 hrs from house to my desk. It takes less than 2 on train and bus. DH and I both very jangled by the time we parked the car.

clon · 14/09/2006 10:25

Wuzzle, you were on the home strait, you didn't have long to last without dungarees!!! So come on then are they that comfy

Thanks for all the advice on birthing bag, I'm madly scibbling it all down on a list.

I quite fancy a water birth myself but dh is nervous, also there is only one pool at the hospital so don't want to get my hopes up then find out it's taken when I get there. The alternative is to go for a room with a bath and stay in there as long as possible.

Thanks also to those that advised me not to miss the NHS classes even though I did NCT, the midwives doing it were great and actually made it more fun than the NCT midwife so I'm going to go to the rest of the classes now.

Justers · 14/09/2006 10:26

Hi there. Glad i'm not the only one feeling frustrated and wanting baby to make an early apperance. My silly hubby decided to play football the other night for the first time in years and came back home on crutches! He has pulled the ligaments in his ankle and doc says he'll be out of action for weeks! So grandparents are on red alert if i need to go to hospital as he can't drive. So instead of me taking it easy these last few weeks i am the one running about after him. Men always know how to steal the bloody limelight!!
Also thinking about a waterbirth mw is coming on saturday to do birthplan so i'll see what she thinks. I wonder how Kat and her baby are doing?

nicand2 · 14/09/2006 10:45

So with hospital bags packed what else is everyone doing now to get prepared?

I've just done a big internet shopping order to be delivered next week, stocking up on nappies for both, tinned stuff, frozen stuff etc.

I've arranged for my mum to have DS when I go off to hospital and hopefully she will come to my house to look after him so I'm thinking of leaving a small list of things she could do eg, clear the washing and ironing basket!! cheeky I know.

Agree with everyone else that I'm totally fed up of being pregnant now. I keep thinking I should make an effort to enjoy these last few weeks of just me and DS before all hell breaks loose but I find it so hard to drag myself off the sofa.

Swizzler · 14/09/2006 11:19

Bag not fully packed (I've bunged a few nappies and things into a rucksack but that's it). Waiting till I finish work next week - likewise with washing baby clothes.

Dogmum: DH is also convinced that the baby will turn up early - not sure what he's basing that idea on. Another mw appt next week so I'll see what she says. Also need to write and go through birth plan. Was going to ask about it last time but ended up seeing the GP as all the mws were busy.

Completely knackered by the end of the day now - I'm hauling myself home from work and straight into bed. We're going out on Friday night to see Louis Theroux - hope I can make it through the evening without falling asleep .

NNNM: how exciting! Let us know if anything happens

Gingeme · 14/09/2006 11:50

Good morning ladies.
Dogmum didnt look like anyone was going to let ds use the loo first which is why I pushed in front. Still shocked at myself for doing it though. Im the kind of person who says'no no you go first, its ok'.
Funny you saying about the experts and things they dont know. I had to see my gp on Tuesday. I have a sensation in my left thigh whivh Ive had before when non pregnant and my Dad gets it too. Anyway my left thigh goes completely numb but on a bad day I get a realy painful burning sensation which is getting worse as baby grows. Its called meralgia paraesthetica.Anyway its all to do with wearing too tight clothing which pinches a nerve in your waist that extends to your hip. Then we got talking about my pregnancy and I told him I was suffering with heart burn to which he responded 'Does that mean your baby will have lots of hair?'. I put him straight and said 'no thats an old wives tale'. Goes to show doesnt it? And hes has 2 children of his own
Go for it in the pool Dogmum. The main reason Im not having gas and air is to be honest it doesnt help much with the pain and basicaly just gives you something to concentrate on.
You might think differently when the time comes but wright it down in your birth plan anyway.
Sorry for such a long thread. Dh is out getting a fold up bed ready for tomm. My boys are coming for the weekend and Im realy looking forward to seeing them. TTFN XXX

wuzzlefraggle · 14/09/2006 12:01

lol clon, i will be sure to tell you how comfy they are as soon as they get delivered god, im gonna look like worsel gummage

well, it looks like me and dh should really get the labour bag thing ready...im feeling a bit behind seeing as every1 else has done it.

nnnm - how are u? has anything else happened re the show??

marthahm · 14/09/2006 12:44

justers-i can't believe your dh has done that-what a bummer!
nnnm-that's exciting, one step closer to the finale.
why is it that now, 4 weeks before the supposed arrival my friends who've had babies are telling me p
graphically how painful it all was-surely they could have kept quiet for 4 more weeks?
i went for my scan yesterday and they said the baby is about 5lbs14oz and is likely to be 8 and a half at birth. dh gave sonographer huge smile and said that was exactly what he weighed too-marvellous...he wasn't smiling so much after i hit him. mind you, they can come alot bigger than that so should be thankful.
deeply thankful that cot has finally arrived although have no energy left to put it together. not to mention lack of space.
am belatedly listening to music with the bump as i sip the raspberry leaf tea. absolutely no response, predictable as both dh and i are lacking in any musical talent. better just heave myself up and go and get the shopping instead.
hope the weekend with boys goes well gingeme

DogMum · 14/09/2006 13:02

Justers - I can't believe it. I'm going to have to stop my dp from playing football as of now.

Have a lovely weekend with the boys, Gingeme. You must be so excited (bet they are too!)

nicand2, as well as thinking about my hospital bag (haven't got further than that), I'm sleeping on my left side and I've started perineal massage. Still need to arrange dog care and backup dog care and get a present to bring him home from the baby. Also thinking about doing some soups and casseroles to freeze ahead.

Doesn't anyone else want to go full term? I want my money's worth out of the NCT classes and they finish a few days before my due date.

wuzzlefraggle · 14/09/2006 13:18

justers, hope your dh is ok

Just to update, i have now received the dungarees...COMFY!!!!!!!!! haha, they dont look the best and are certainly not flattering, but i dont care, they are my comfy, around the house wear i feel like i should be chewing on a piece of hay lol
