Hi everyone,

A new thread for us chatty bunch due in November. Could someone repost the stats? I'm on my phone so can't do it. Thank you!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Elle things have improved but 12 weeks is certainly not magic -.-

update on nuchal after a Google, under 2.5 is fine and 90% of babies between 2.5 and 3.5 are ok.

Lovely news from so many Smile

In terms of pushchairs, we had bought ours in the third tri, was delivered around 36wks, but we had chosen it at about 20wks. I recommend having a good think about what you need, then want, as well as budget. For us, we were going to get a John Lewis travel system because we liked the look of it, but they suddenly discontinued it. So we started thinking again and realised it wouldn't have been good at all. We don't drive, and even if we did I didn't want to attach the car seat to the pushchair chassis (people around here use it as a 'cute' small pram, whereas it makes me worry for baby's back), we live upstairs with no lift so have to carry the pram up, we don't have loads of storage space, we wanted something that felt sturdy (a surprising number of pushchairs are wobbly!)... stuff like that. So we ended up with something totally different, a Baby Jogger City Mini.

As for the carrycot technically the BJCM is suitable from birth but I didn't want DS so far from me so small, so we got the deluxe one (hard bodied style). It attached quite high, which I loved, and satisfied my parent facing desire for the first 6mo, after which I was happy with him going forward in the seat unit as I could still see him and he loved to look out. Still using the BJCM and will reuse it with the carrycot for this one, although will be using the Caboo too and DS spent the vast majority of his first 3mo in the Caboo rather than the pram.

itsjustthursday · 24/04/2014 23:19

PS the carry cot was also great for visiting people, as a place to put DS, to look at toys on the bar, to sleep... When he was about 4mo and sitting up more I would prop him up in the carrycot to look at us, play with toys, it was like a mini playpen!

I've not had great news I had my 12 week scan yesterday and I have had a silent miscarriage, it was the shittiest news but my DH was fantastic and so were the staff at the hospital.

Good luck to the rest of you and I hope to be back soon.

Greenstone · 25/04/2014 07:27

Oh no, wine, how heartbreaking. So so sorry. Glad you're being looked after x

weeonion · 25/04/2014 07:33

Oh wine - that is hard to take. Hope you are doing ok and will be suitably pampered and well looked after. Hoe to see you back on another thread soon.
x

Wineandchoccy · 25/04/2014 07:39

Thank you, I feel angry and a bit numb today and got to ring the hospital to discuss options with them.

On a lighter note NHS tissues are like sandpaper so whether news is good or bad make sure you take plenty of your own.

ElleOhElle · 25/04/2014 07:44

oh God wine that's so terrible I hope you're back soon. Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks

scan in just over an hour - nervous!!!!!

Greenstone · 25/04/2014 07:52

Good luck Elle.

Weeonion, thinking of you too. I'm sorry I can't help with the normal procedures for nuchal measurements etc as again in Ireland with a comparatively f*cked up system. On my last pregnancy I got a private scan at 12 weeks (the nuchal etc wouldn't be looked at where I am on public system) and sonographer said v little apart from nuchal looked 'fine') and I wasn't clued in enough to ask more.

Can you keep ringing up and hassling people for straight answers about your measurements?

alita7 · 25/04/2014 08:37

so sorry wine, it's a terrible thing to go through!

good luck elle!!

WheresMrMonkey · 25/04/2014 09:22

So sorry wine xx

StripeyFox · 25/04/2014 10:29

Wee onion- I've just been reading your posts about screening and diagnostic testing. The NHS in Glasgow now offers CUBS, they changed from the AFP to CUBS last year - if you consented to screening then this is what they should be carrying out if you were in the correct timeframe. What type of screening did they say you were getting? Sorry, it sounds like it's been a bit of a stress, and what a nuisance getting your private appt cancelled.

Cupcake85 · 25/04/2014 10:50

Hi can I join in? I'm 9+2 EDD 25th November with number 4! Had my '12 week' scan yesterday as to MW dates going from my lmp I was down as being around 13weeks Hmm
Now get to have another in another 2 weeks time! Smile

ElleOhElle · 25/04/2014 10:55

thank you - scan was lovely - looking good - wriggly one Grin Grin Grin

TwigletFiend · 25/04/2014 11:04

wine, so sorry things are so shitty for you right now, hope you're getting all the support you need.

Hi Cupcake, we are lucky! I also had an early scan due to dating confusion, so am going back for another one next week at 11+4 Grin

Glad everything looks good for you Elle Smile

RE prams/travel systems I am in two minds. We have been offered (or rather my DP has announced his intention to 'borrow') a second hand travel system that was apparently 'the best' thing out there three years ago when DP's brother & partner had their first baby (everything they had was 'the best' - she's one of those people!). It's a Quinny system, but not sure which one. The travel seat has never been in an accident or anything, but I can't decide whether I want a new one or not anyway, as it has now been used by their two little boys & is a bit worn. We are on a bit of a budget, so I should be clamouring to accept as it's free, but I'm just not sure about (a) the safety aspect and (b) whether I could stomach her snotty, superior attitude when we ask if we can use her hand-me-downs!

irishgirlinlondon · 25/04/2014 11:10

Elle Congratulations - great news. I have to wait until 8.20am tomorrow morning, I'll be 13 weeks...don't think I'll be able to sleep a wink tonight!

As for prams, carrycots - ran out of Mamas and Papas with DH back in March both in a cold sweat. Don't even know where to begin on that one Confused

RandomInternetStranger · 25/04/2014 11:18

I'd take whatever hand me downs are going. At this point I'd be prepared to take back all of DDs stuff I lent to my ex BIL and SIL even though I wish thwm a life of agony and lonliness. I'm not going to ask for anythung, but if DD comes home with arms full of all her old stuff at some point I'd take it. However I had the Quinny Speedi and the Quinny Buzz and thought both were crap. Go to a big Mothercare World and have a play with a few and mothers out and about are usually pretty eager to share opinions on things like this - if you see a (non haggard and rushed!) mum with the pushchair you want ask her how she's getting on with it. See it in action with a baby in it.

TwigletFiend · 25/04/2014 11:35

Thanks, Random, can I ask why you didn't like it? I haven't actually seen it yet, but I drive a mini 4x4 with minimal boot space, so I need something compact & easy to lift in and out ideally!

alita7 · 25/04/2014 12:26

Yay elle :) good to hear!

Spannertime · 25/04/2014 12:39

Sorry I've not been around much. Love and best wishes to those with sad news and to those with positive scans, congratulations. Despite going it alone without anti depressants for the sake of little one, who I pray I'm not damaging, I had a breakdown on Tuesday and am struggling with extreme anxiety and depression. Getting through an hour at a time at the moment.

WheresMrMonkey · 25/04/2014 13:11

Oh spanner, you poor thing, I really hope you have a supportive GP, I'm feeling anxious and low at the moment, and although I think I will get through I do have so much empathy for you

StripeyFox · 25/04/2014 13:27

I think it's about time I introduce myself...I've been following this thread for a while but have been reluctant to post because I've been so worried the pregnancy wasn't going well. I've had 4 scans, after pain and bleeding throughout the first trimester.

I had a scan this morning (9+5, EDD 25/11/14) and feel I can finally believe I am going to have a baby! This is my first pregnancy, and now that the bleeding has settled I realise I am getting away quite lightly with symptoms, with mostly just some tiredness, endless hunger and ever-expanding boobs! I've got my booking appointment next week and my 12 week scan the following week, and am planning for a home birth.

It's lovely to meet you all, and great to hear about all the amazing scans.

Spanner - it sounds like you're going through a rubbish time, I hope you have someone you can talk to about your feelings. A friend or your GP? Don't suffer alone. There are so many emotions and hormones around during this first trimester, and with the added fluctuation of coming off your antidepressants it must be really difficult. Thinking of you.

alita7 · 25/04/2014 13:35

Spanner big hugs that sounds very difficult! This is an emotionally chaotic time and having existing problems must make that worse :(

itsjustthursday · 25/04/2014 14:03

Spanner Thanks Hope you have a lot of support around you.

Stripey It must have been so unnerving for you, but welcome! Glad that you can feel a bit more relaxed now. I'm also 9+5, EDD was given as 23/11/14 but waiting for scan to confirm 2 weeks on Monday.

Tiredness keeps coming, slept for about 4 or 5 hours during the day yesterday, then still slept 9 hours at night. Nausea isn't too bad and hoping it stays calm in that respect. Our grocery bills have sky rocketed with only being able to stomach certain things, but hoping that it will start to normalise soon!

weeonion · 25/04/2014 14:06

Hi Spanner. I really feel for you. Do you have a good relationship with your GP or midwife who may be able to refer you to other more specialist services? Has anyone done the Edinburgh Scale / questionnaire with you yet? I know what you say about not wanting to be on ADs at this time but I know mums who felt they were best thing to help them through. I hope you are getting support and understanding from those around you too. There are some really great supportive threads on MN too with women who are living with and experiencing A.N.D and mental health issues whilst pg. I am really thinking about you. xx

Glad all was well for you Elle Smile

Welcome cupcakes!
Welcome stripey - good to see you here and another homebirthing planner. Grin
