Decided to start the new thread seeing as the old one is filling up.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
rumisyum · 08/05/2014 21:36

Hello ladies. I don't know if any of you remember me - my relationship with MN is pretty on-again-off-again, but I lurked around the 10+ threads on conception a couple times in our trek through the horrid limbo of infertility, and you guys were always extremely lovely when I did. Thanks Now I happen to finally, finally, luckily find myself with a reason to be lurking round these boards, and I just wanted to check in and say how bloody happy I am to see so many of you here, and even through to the other side! Smile It properly warms my barren cockles.

I don't even feel I safely belong on these boards yet, as it's ridiculously early days, but hey, it's nice to know my womb isn't a desolate wasteland after all. Wink I hope all your pregnancies are going swimmingly, and you sneeze those babies out when the time comes. Lots of good luck and wishes with everything.

eurochick · 08/05/2014 22:14

Woo hoo rum. It's always lovely to see another 10+er on the "other side". Can you remind me of your journey to this point?

rumisyum · 09/05/2014 05:54

Hi euro. There's not much to it when you write it down. Almost 4 years "trying", 2 very early MCs in the first few months of that, and then not a sniff of anything. (Till now!) We were due to have IVF since about last September or so, but it kept getting put off for one reason or another. And this has happened off our own steam just before we going to start treatment for real next month. The magic, ironic, pre-IVF diffment. I'm a bloody unicorn.

How did it finally work out for you? I should try and read back through old threads - I'm (unsurprisingly) feeling very much in the mood for reading ALL the success stories!

eurochick · 09/05/2014 11:20

That's brilliant - your patience paid off!

This pg is the result of IVF round 4. IVF round 1 result in an mc. 2 and 3 gave me chem pregs. Round 4 didn't go well and we were told to consider donor eggs by the embryologist but by some miracle the single slow growing embryo that remained at day 3 is still hanging on in there several months later.

freedom2011 · 09/05/2014 12:53

wooo! well done rumisyum such good news. welcome welcome!

rumisyum · 09/05/2014 22:11

Thanks, freedom! It's really good to be here!

Ah, I'm so pleased for you, euro. I think you were gearing up to this round when last I lurked on the threads. I guess all our patience and holding out some hope against the odds eventually worked out. Smile

freedom2011 · 12/05/2014 11:41

what week are you rumisyum? wishing you good health and good luck.

I did my gestational diabetes test last week, the results have come back and are slightly high - 136 millimoles per liter where the cut off is 135. I have been advised to see a nutrition expert and possibly have further tests. So far, so fine. Best case, I do not have Gestational diabetes, Worst case I do and have to take insulin, in between - I can control my levels and keep the child's weight on track through controlled diet. The nutritionist doctor's assistant offered me an appointment tomorrow. Unfortunately I can't make it due to work but said I can come after my holiday, in about 2 weeks. The doctor's assistant went on and on about how dangerous it can be for the child, and really made me feel bad about not cancelling my work appointments tomorrow to make the meeting. Of course I don't want a mega huge baby or to have to be induced or have a caesarian. I feel like this is the start of health care professionals piling on the guilt and paranoia and pushing me towards a highly medicated path. Or maybe I really do have skewed priorities and should drop everything and have gone to tomorrow's appointment. So anyway, I am off to look up a meal plan for GD and do some more exercise.

eurochick · 12/05/2014 13:37

How annoying free. It sounds like you are just borderline and so hopefully it can be controlled through diet. I doubt the nutritionist is going to tell you anything earthshattering in terms of diet that you couldn't find out through googling.

freedom2011 · 12/05/2014 20:05

thanks euro I've calmed down now having found some diet plans. when I do actually get to the nutritionist hopefully they'll do a further test and find out I am fine and I will have the benefit of some better eating habits. how are you getting on?

seamermaid · 12/05/2014 22:52

Ladies!
Sorry to be so absent! New home and job is keeping me away.
Welcome Rum! I remember you! Congrats. It's excellent to see you here.
Free - I'm sorry about the diabetic worries. I agree that if an alternative can be found to a highly medicated path it would be better. Sorry the docs made you feel guilty. I hate it when they do that.

Euro - how are you? I haven't been on mumsnet much but read the other thread today and saw that there was a 10 plussers get together. Hope you had a great time. I'm so busy trying to do as much as I can at work before going on maternity leave I don't spend much time at all on here or online these days. How's it all coming along?

Buzz - how's bb? Are you going down the early weaning route?

Sweet - I will be taking your advice and getting some early help in. I don't really have family that can help out and I know I will need guidance with a newborn. I like to know I'm doing it right and having an expert show me feels reassuring.

Love to all other 10 plussers grads. X

rumisyum · 13/05/2014 09:57

Thanks, sea. It's marvellous to see you here as well, after all the immune saga. Smile

free I'm very early! I think 5 weeks, though of course this month would be the one month I'd forgotten exactly when my last period was/didn't know exactly when I ovulated. Oh, the irony!

I'm sorry to hear about the borderline GD test. Hopefully, even if it is, you'll be able to keep it under control just through diet, etc - this happened to a friend of mine. Fingers crossed it isn't, tho. But how unhelpful to lay on the guilt, as if we wouldn't have enough of our own to deal with!

eurochick · 13/05/2014 10:11

free I'm glad you are feeling calmer about it. I think that is a good attitude to have.

sea we had a lovely mini-meet last night. Just me, critter, ten and joy in the end. It was so nice.

rum how typical! That puts you in the same situation as many non-long termers though - you'll have to rely on the dating scan.

seamermaid · 15/05/2014 22:16

Euro I'm happy you ladies had a lovely meet.
Smile

Rum they will figure it all out at the dating scan.

I'm really feeling big. Can't get used to it tbh but it is still starting to sink in that I'm pregnant. Smile

eurochick · 16/05/2014 09:58

It's still sinking in here sea. Which is slightly ludicrous given my enormobump. The seccies here (who all have kids) were commenting that I'm a "good size" for 25 weeks and it's not going to be a small one. Yes, thanks for that ladies.

In addition to the usual kicks and wiggles, I've recently started to feel an odd churning feeling. I think it's centime rolling over. It's very odd indeed.

seamermaid · 16/05/2014 12:21

I'm glad it's sinking in. I think it is v hard for long term ttc-ers to believe we are actually pregnant.
How much kg have you put on so far?
At my last check they told me my bump was slightly on the small side. I have out on around 8/9kg already though.
I'm beginning to get a really sore back pain. I'm 21 weeks tomorrow so I can't imagine how bad it's going to get later on in pregnancy. Hmm

eurochick · 16/05/2014 13:10

I've put on 24lbs Blush. I'm not sure how. My exercise levels are way down (due to the 1st tri bleed which stopped my plan for an active pregnancy in its tracks, nausea, tiredness and travel) but that plus the little extra I am eating does not account for the rate at which I am piling it on. It's not like I can diet now, so I will deal with it once centime's here.

I'm doing reasonably well on the aches and pains front so far. My only real difficulty has been hip pain at night. I bought the Dream Genii pillow to help with that, and it definitely does, but it only covers one side. I managed to spend most of last night sleeping on my other side and woke up in pain this morning. But I'm absolutely fine walking about and sitting, so I have it easy compared to many. I was expecting my lower back to be a problem as it does play up sometimes, but it has been doing well so far. I'm now at the point where the baby starts to pile on the chub, so there will be extra weight on the bump soon - we will see how it copes with that.

freedom2011 · 16/05/2014 18:04

sea so happy to read you are over the 20 week mark. great! I have found pregnancy yoga and pilates extremely helpful in curbing back pain.

euro the churning - I had that too. made me feel a bit sick but seems to be gone now.

I found some gestational diabetes plans and so far, so good. In fact, the food choices are pretty tasty. Fortunately it's spring. Not sure how I would feel about so many salad based meals if it was winter. Lets see what the nutritionist says when I get back the week after next. I am off on my holidays for a week tomorrow. Very excited to spend a week with MrFree somewhere pretty. Have a lovely weekend everyone.

eurochick · 19/05/2014 13:25

That's good free. Enjoy your hols!

akuabadoll · 21/05/2014 00:49

Sorry not much time but hi everyone. free do you need any help? Please don't worry about the fussing that seems to be designed to make the whole GD thing worse. The way your blood sugars work and what makes highs can be tricky and a pain to figure out but it's totally doable. The main thing is that you enjoy your holiday and not worry. If you want some tips that I learnt along the way, PM me. I didn't find out until 31 weeks, had no meds, tiny doll was 3.3kg and I put on 11kg.

freedom2011 · 25/05/2014 10:13

thanks akuabadoll yes please! will PM you.

Hope you are all doing well and have had some sunshine.

sweetgrouch · 26/05/2014 00:42

Hey everyone, just a quick one. I am catching up after a 15 day mn hiatus while on holiday.

Free - The GD should be manageable seeing as you are borderline. Good luck, I wish none of the 10 plussers had to have extra worries during a hard fought pregnancy.

Rum - I am so delighted for you! Congratulations!

Doll - It's so nice to hear from you. How are you doing? How was the move? Are you enjoying the new location?

Euro - I had weight fluxes from water retention during pregnancy. It's so nice to hear you don't have many aches and pains. I hope the relative smooth sailing (in terms of aches) continues.

sea - my bump was small the whole time, everything turned out completely fine. The Dr kept saying I would have a tiny baby because of it which was fine by me as it turned out 4.2 kg is not small.

Princess - it's amazing how we all end up parenting way differently than we had expected pfft at my planned feeding schedule. I agree with you that we have to do what works for our own family units. It's nice hearing about how mini-princess is growing Smile. I have also been on the receiving end of unsolicited advice about mini-sweets I being an arsehole just ignore anything negative.

Buzzy and sar - I hope all is well with you and your little ones.

AFM I had a great break and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Mini-sweets did much better than expected on the flight and with the time change. Got to go to try catching up with the giant pile of laundry waiting for me.

seamermaid · 27/05/2014 15:24

Hi ladies how are you all?
Free how's the diet plan going? All good I hope. Did you decide if you would take meds?
Sweet - glad you had a nice hols and travel with baby wasn't too bad. my bump is not massive but I have put on 10kg already. It's quite scary. It's not doing my back any good at all. I have started getting really bad pains in my tailbone. I also slipped on some wet stairs this morning and landed on my back. Not good!
Euro - how are you doing? Are you going to do the FMC growth scan? I think it's at 32 weeks - is that right?

eurochick · 28/05/2014 11:44

Ouch sea. That doesn't sound good. How's the back now after the fall?

free how is the blood sugar management going?

sweet that sounds excellent. I'm glad mini-sweets coped well.

AFM, I'm 26+6 today, so officially at the end of the second tri. I really never thought I would get this far. sea the FMC recommends a 32 week growth scan as standard, I think. I'm having one at 28 weeks because of the blood flow issue that was picked up at 20 weeks. If that issue is persisting, I will be talking through options with my mw, but I expect it will be a consultant referral and hospital birth, and my desire for a home/MLU birth will go out of the window. At least I will have some time to get my head around the idea.

seamermaid · 28/05/2014 13:41

Euro I'm sorry you think you might not get the kind of birth you want but it's too early to speculate - everything might be just fine. Congrats on entering your 3rd trimester. Do you feel it's gone quickly?
Back is not doing so great. I have ordered a bump support belt. I figured I will try that before booking a physio appointment. Let's see how that goes.
I just got my full blood count results and have been advised to take iron tablets. Euro - didn't you take some alternative to that? I'm not keen to take iron tablets as I have heard they can make you constipated and that's probably the only symptom I haven't suffered so far.
My nausea and vomiting has returned - apparently I'm on of those people that don't get better after the first trimesterHmm.

eurochick · 28/05/2014 13:45

Oh no sea. That's rubbish on both counts.

I took spatone (liquid iron supplement) earlier on. It did help me and doesn't affect my digestion. You can get it in Boots or Holland & Barrett. I didn't find the taste too awful but a lot of people choose to take it in orange juice as this helps absorption.

The second tri definitely went more quickly than the first, and the due date is now looking not very far away at all. Since I have been able to feel centime, I have relaxed a lot and enjoyed it more. I hope Tuesday's scan won't mean I return to worrying!
