I'm so jealous of all of you on maternity leave already! This time next week I'll be joining you. I have a list of stuff in my head that I'm going to spend my days doing: Wooping cough jab, reorganise all the closets, build the baby furniture, test out the car seat, make my bedroom all pretty and "visitor friendly" because I live in a 3 storey house and visitors can climb all the bloody stairs rather than me when I'm stuck in bed breastfeeding and establishing milk supply! Also I'll have to do the traditional MN batch cooking of lasagnas to freeze.

It's not all work though - I've been recording True Detective, Masterchef, and America's next top model - some trashy telly to see me through me putting my feet up Grin.

Oh god I can't wait. 4 and a half working days to go!

BlanketSky · 31/03/2014 12:33

grrrr, been trying to get hold of antenatal bloods dept at my hospital. No answer each time and no way of leaving a message. Fabulous. Supposed to be having GTT after growth scan late Friday showed baby has massive tummy, but most departments shut at 4pm it seems so couldn't book it then Hmm

Everything else was fine at the scan but dd has an estimated weight of 6lb8oz already due to big tummy measurement, over 97th centile. Not really sure what to make of it, all measurements are over 50th centile and DS was about 97th centile at birth... assuming a half lb gain a week it would make her the same as DS at 40 weeks though she will be here at 39w- 4 weeks today! Took the sonographer ages to measure the tummy, so wondering how accurate it is but a bit worried all the same...

BlanketSky · 31/03/2014 12:34

hope everyone had a nice weekend, and Isean is ok. Will read the rest of the thread now I've had a rant!

Isean · 31/03/2014 12:48

Hi everyone! Thanks for thinking of me! Still in hospital, they aren't sure what to do with us really! My BP has been pretty stable, occasionally high for me, but generally ok. I've still been getting headaches & sickness but they think it could be down to the heat in the ward, it's crazy & playing havoc with my itchiness!
This morning I had a spell of reduced movements. Usually I feel the baby move when I wake and definitely goes bananas when I'm on the monitor and having breakfast, but today there was nothing. The midwife sat for a while feeling my tummy & said she felt a kick, but I didn't. Eventually I felt a couple of small movements but nothing like usual. The midwife wasn't too concerned & said to wait and see what the docs said.
I saw a consultant & junior docs I've not seen before and then a consultant I saw on Friday with students. They were all a bit unsure and decided they would discuss it as a team and come back to me. They want to speak to the consultant who was going to arrange induction at 38 weeks for cholestasis & get his opinion too, especially as baby is still breech with no sign of moving!

35+6 today.

I have officially started mat leave now too! Was due to finish last Friday, but haven't been in since Tuesday lunchtime due to the BP & everything! Can't get my head around not going back to work!

Glad to see most of you are doing ok as we get closer to the drop zone! Smile

Quick question:

I have flu like symptoms and because my BP has been a bit all over the place a couple of weeks ago, the MW told me to get checked out if I have flu like symptoms or feel unwell. I started feeling bad yesterday, just generally fluey. Haven't seen the midwife in a couple of weeks but am seeing her tomorrow - do you think it's okay to wait until then or should I see someone today to get a quick BP check? Would you just wait until the next day?

ALso baby has been quieter than normal today Hmm though still hiccupping and getting the odd shuffle from him!

Bornin1984 · 31/03/2014 13:33

Aren't the results of your booking bloods marked in your notes?

Minions · 31/03/2014 13:43

Hey dobe, sorry you're unwell. I'd call the midwife and ask them what you've asked us. I don't think you'll feel happy until you've spoken to someone, not worth feeling worried when they could put your mind at rest. Keep us posted, hope everything is ok

MoominIsWaitingToMeetHerMiniMe · 31/03/2014 13:49

Had my iron level results back, still low but thankfully not scarily low so hopefully (fingers crossed) there'll be no iron infusions for me, the day unit where they give them at our hospital is a scary place Hmm

In uni now until my scan at 3:50pm... excited Grin although getting fed up with people dragging their heels and expecting me to chase them around and sort out everything they need, I posted on the course's Facebook page to say "I'm not chasing you all around because all I can do is waddle and I'll never catch you", and they've all liked it but still everyone expecting me to do their jobs!!! Hmm

dobedobedo · 31/03/2014 13:50

I'm sure everything is okay - it probably is just a cold/flu type thing. Someone I work with was complaining of a sore throat last week. Baby is now kicking and wriggling. I'd already texted my midwife, but I think I'll leave it until I see her tomorrow.

I am not THAT worried, but I'm always worried about not being cautious enough and something happening! If that makes sense.

When I'm not pregnant I'm much more laid back and carefree!

Chip86 · 31/03/2014 14:04

Hi dobe always good to double check peace of mind is an amazing thing
glad your being looked after isean your in a good place
moomin let them get on with it if they want to fail thats there choise and what are they going to do when your not there because you have had baby, i know its hard letting go im struggeling with that at work while traing everyone has there own ways of doing things, we dont need the stress

im so tired dont think i could work any longer so glad they told me to stop

MasterFlea · 31/03/2014 15:40

Hope all is okay Isean.

Had my checkup with MW today. Baby in the right position and all other tests and checks were fine. A big relief.

It took me ages to read this thread and now I can't remember which posts I wanted to comment on. Stupid memory and I'm so tired.

impatientlywaiting · 31/03/2014 16:31

Question for the experienced mum's. I've just ordered some cellular blankets. Do I need any other types of blankets too? Thanks

Squiffie · 31/03/2014 16:34

Just checking in to say Hi! I keep up with reading the thread but end up not commenting as by the time I've read everything I've forgotten what I want to say!

It's all getting very real now, eek! Exciting and nerve wracking!

Squiffie · 31/03/2014 16:36

A fleece blanket or knitted blanket is nice for when you're out and about (depending on if you're using a pram and whether or not it has a decent foot muff). X

Bezzabelle · 31/03/2014 17:32

Hi all, just saying hi and hope everyone has a better week this week.

I have 2 days left at work and then am off- 3 weeks of leave first and then maternity leave. Got quite a bit to do in next two days ar work though. Been on hen weekend this weekend and that and the clocks changing has made shattered so looking forward to getting in some naps around ds being at nursery and his naps. Also got a list of stuff to do- sort wardrobes, touch up paint in nursery, wash all of ds's baby clothes, pack hospital bag and sort out garden. Want to have some nice day trips over Easter too with ds and dh. ELCS booked for 23rd May so hoping baby won't make early appearance so can get everything I want done. Also want to increase my swims per week as feel very breathless at the moment and unfit!!

Been reading with interest the talk about slings as although have a baby Bjorn from ds which I used for walks out with him, thinking of getting a moby one for use around the house so I can still play with ds and do housework- bit worried I won't get knack of tying it properly though??

dobedobedo · 31/03/2014 17:47

I've just ordered one cellular blanket and I have a fleece one and a wool one. Do you think I'll need more? Or will I be using sheets when the weather is hot and then gro bags? (I haven't bought any gro bags yet but I will)

Bornin1984 · 31/03/2014 17:58

Moomin how was scan

chattychattyboomba · 31/03/2014 18:12

Muslin blankets or swaddle blankets are very handy for that time of year. Like Aden & Anais

Squiffie · 31/03/2014 19:27

I hardly ever used blankets at all at home Done. I would put mine in vest, babygro, mits and socks if it was chilly and sometimes a grobag but tbh they both hated covers and still do aged 3 and 6.

Squiffie · 31/03/2014 19:28

*dobe not done, damn autocorrect.

eggsnbeans · 31/03/2014 19:59

How are you doing isean, di bubs start moving again? Bloody scary when they go unusally quiet!

Did you talk to your MW dobe?

impatiently - DD was born late spring and we had a couple of gro bags, a couple of merino blankets and a couple of knitted blankets, which was heaps! The merino ones are awesome as they are super light, breathable and really toasty warm. I mainly put her in the gro bag then loosely swaddled her arms, then on the really hot summer nights she just had the swaddle (muslin ones are good for summer). But gro bags are a life saver once they get wriggly Smile

Sorry I can't remember who was worrying about measuring small, but my fundal height has been 3-4w behind since 20w and MW not at all concerned as she says bubs feels totally normal size! At 20w I was measuring 17w, but I'd just had my scan which said bubs was around 65th% for weight. So don't get too concerned Wink like you can ever not worry about everything in pg!

My little bean woke me up several times last night to pee as it kept punching my bladder! I only normally get up once (unless DD's having a bad night)

Well I wish I could go on mat leave cos I could really do with the mat pay! But as I'm just casual now I'm not entitled Sad My own fault though for getting pg just after my job interview!

SarahJinx · 31/03/2014 20:21

Another blanket fan here too impatiently and not just because I have some beautiful ones either, oh no!

I swaddled in a sheet or thin blanket then tucked a blanket around! I did the same when we progressed to gro bags, and even now he has a big boy bed and duvet, there is a trusty blanket underneath! I love them, DS is a kicker offer too, safety in layers!

My nan who died last year bought us some beautiful, snowy white ones which I'll treasure too.

On labour outfits, I was put into a hospital gown on arrival at hospital, I thought that was the norm and haven't even thought about it!! Best get self to Matalan! Hosp gowns are perfect though, light, airy and comfy, plus easy access for everything.

McBaby · 31/03/2014 20:28

Eggsandbeans have you looked in to maternity allowance rules? You need to have worked for 26 weeks out of the last 66 weeks to qualify? So you may qualify even if you don't qualify for stay maternity.

dobedobedo · 31/03/2014 20:35

eggs she texted and told me to go to labour ward if baby was still very quiet, but at that point he was moving, so I'll just wait to see her tomorrow.

Earlier I totally lost my shit and fell apart because I got my finger trapped in the door at the hinges.Blush I screamed the house down, dh and ds came running and I was too afraid to even look at my finger in case it had been chopped off! Once they assured me it was still attached (I know that sounds melodramatic but ds chopped a bit of his toe off the same way once) I just burst into tears and sobbed about how I couldn't cope with life! Blush Bloody hormones!!
Anyway. Finger is twice the size of all the other ones, there's a little hole in it and it's purple, but will be okay. I can't believe I reacted so badly!

I just feel like I have zero control over my emotions and have no ability to hide them either anymore. Confused

Please tell me I'm not the only one who has flipped their lid due to being pregnant!

chattychattyboomba · 31/03/2014 20:41

OUCH dobe! That sounds painful.
And no, you are not alone x
