WELCOME! Thanks This thread is for all Mums-to-be expecting Maybies babies in (and around) May 2014! Please come and join the fun.

Put your feet up, get yourself a (decaf?) cuppa Brew and settle in to hear the aches and pains, trials and tribulations, shopping excitement and hospital bag woes of those in their third trimester.

Hopefully you'll find a listening ear and a wealth of knowledge. Everyone welcome, especially if you're new to MN and are just peeking in as you start your maternity leave.

Dungarees makes me think of Andy pandy Grin Mind you, I do see the appeal of clothes with no waist bands! I am practically living in 2 maxi dresses.

First antenatal class at the local hospital tonight. It should be interesting - considering I will probably be the only person there not booked for a CS, I'm wondering what they will talk about for 3 HOURS!??

I listened to the natal hypnotherapy cd for the first time yesterday. I have to confess I did have a snigger the first time she mentioned "breathe in the golden light" Hmm but I soon got over myself and found it quite relaxing!

sambababy · 12/03/2014 15:26

I've just been reliably informed that Andy pandy didn't even wear dungarees. What is wrong with my brain????

PixieBumbles · 12/03/2014 16:24

I love dungarees but I've always looked a bit of a berk in them so I never wear them! Some people can pull them off. I am not one of those people.

32+4 and I swear my bump looks lower. DH thinks so too and one of my colleagues commented on it as well. I know this doesn't mean things are going to happen anytime soon so I'm not worried about it, but it feels quite strange to think that my body and the baby are beginning to start the process of preparing for the birth. It makes me realise just how short a time is left. Drop zone (thank you clearly for that wonderful phrase!) commences on 13th April. That's just a month away!

Baby is head down and it feels like he's using my bladder as a pillow. I hope he's comfortable in there because I'm bloody not!

MrsFooCough · 12/03/2014 17:20

Hey all - just got call from the hospital day centre, my GTT came back "abnormal" but no idea of how abnormal.
Apparently the degree of diabetes will only be found out by the continuous monitoring, is that right? I thought they could say if your GTT came back with a mild positive or a more substantial one? Or have I become confused...Confused

Also she seemed to be suggesting that the GTT result may have been indicative of pre-existing Type 2, which I doubt very much because I had several blood tests, fasting and normal ones, in the months when DH and I were trying to conceive. Full panels were performed and no abnormal glucose measurements were ever reported to me, so I'm pretty confident that was just conjecture on her part.

I'm kind of ok with this result, is that odd? Anyone who remembers one of my recent posts on here might remember that I said I had a feeling that I might have GD... spooky eh!
Kind of chuffed that this means more appointments, I have been feeling somewhat abandoned with the infrequency of checkups etc...but it's awful of me to be even slightly pleased with this outcome isn't it? Shock

moas · 12/03/2014 17:21

Well, I'm actually wearing my mum's maternity dungarees as I write this! They're from 1979, dark blue corderoy and have a zip down the front! Wear them mainly around the house though... :)

moobaloo · 12/03/2014 18:25

Bad luck with the GD MrsFC but interesting you had a 'feeling'!

Abnormal Hmm not heard that one before! Hope the monitoring goes ok. Sure someone else with more knowledge than me will be along soon!

Drop zone is an excellent phrase! Mine doesn't start until the 28th April so quite a while from now! Getting closer though... Eek!

I have never thought I could pull of dungarees but all power to those who can! Bet they're comfy Smile

PotatoPolly · 12/03/2014 18:54

remind me when the drop zone starts please!

ClearlyMoo · 12/03/2014 19:02

Smile Drop zone expert here.. (Yeah yeah get over yourself ClearlyMoo)Shock

Polly. It's my phrase for "term" so 37 weeks to 40+12 or whatever they let you go over in your area!

mrsfoo and hez and whoever else said about the raging grumpiness and shouting about things and biting your dh head off - me too! This morning I had a right hissy fit in the car about something that wasn't that big a deal. And as I was shouting, I thought that I need to rein it in a bit but I couldn't stop myself! Blush

Oh well. I have to carry the baby, he can put up with a bit of shite!

katekate84 · 12/03/2014 19:40

rigbyroo I'm a primary school teacher working in Hove, starting to get really tired now! How about you?

randdom Yep I'm booked for the Sussex- really hoping for a water birth so I'm really pleased to hear that they're opening another 2! Smile

katekate84 · 12/03/2014 19:42

And yes yes to the hormones- I'm a crazy tired hormonal person at the moment! I'm normally so level and calm! My poor OH- I range from moping and crying to laughing hysterically! Madness!

Squiffie · 12/03/2014 20:09

MrsFoo, I had my first diabetic clinic appointment today! My fasting blood was 5.5 and my 2hrs later blood was 7.2 (They wanted levels below 5.5 and below 7.8) so only my fasting level was a concern.

As of today I have to check my blood sugars before breakfast and 1hr after breakfast, lunch and dinner. They want fasting below 5 and after meals below 7.

They wanted to put me on metformin immediately but I refused and asked to be given the opportunity to control it with my diet.

Xavielli · 12/03/2014 20:09

Hi ladies,

Been very busy this week so having trouble keeping up - just had to jump in and say I passed my theory test today :) :) :) rather proud of myself!

Now I will read the thread x

Squiffie · 12/03/2014 20:12

I'm no expert but if there's anything you want to ask I'll try my best although think there's other people who may be better placed to answer - just can't remember who - baby brain Hmm

Squiffie · 12/03/2014 20:13

Woohoo, well done Xav Grin

MrsFooCough · 12/03/2014 20:24

Oh squiff I was hoping you'd pop back up and give me some advice! My fasting glucose was at 7.2 when they did my GTT, the biochem phlebotomist told me this was within the range they wanted for the test, but I must say I thought it was very high.........
So the first appt they do another 2hr thingy? I've been told that my first appt is with my consultant, not necessarily the joint diabetic clinic, so I don't really know what's going on. The midwife who rang was feckin clueless. Had no clue about my notes/details, which is just careless considering that my midwife who knows about me is about 2mins along the corridor from them. Sigh.

SarahJinx · 12/03/2014 20:26

Congratulations Xav!!

sambababy · 12/03/2014 20:31

Well done Xav!

Just been reading a really interesting thread started by a dad to be which has made me realise I need to broach this topic in a little more depth with DH! In brazil it's normal for your entire family (we're talking 100s of extended relations) to visit at the hospital! I even heard last week of a birth broadcast to family live via Skype Hmm
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/childbirth/2022715-Am-I-being-unreasonable-Dad-to-be-please-help?

Xavielli · 12/03/2014 20:43

Right, had a quick read through and caught up.

welcome to the newbies :)

Thanks and Cake for those who are suffering with GD, UTI, SPD and all the other shite no one warns you about pre preg.

I haven't posted on this thread yet so best get on with it,

I'm currently 32+4 with Dc5 (yes, 5) who is a little boy. I am 28 years old I have ds1 and dd1 (9 and very nearly 8) from a previous relationship and ds2 and dd2 (3 and 2) with my DP...... Who also has 2 Dd's from a previous relationship (14 and also very nearly 8 (our dds were born 2 days apart!)) We live in oxfordshire in a very small 2 bedroom house which is an enormous amount of fun Hmm I have OC in this pregnancy as I did with dd2 so will most likely get induced at 37/38 weeks - I've never reached a due date with any of my spontaneous labours so hopefully won't have a problem going early again. I've just been referred for physio for SPD as well. Never rains but it pours!

Consultant tomorrow, I'm wondering if we'll get closer to a plan of action? Hopefully. Need to finish packing my hospital bag.

Xavielli · 12/03/2014 20:54

Blimey samba - that's a bit full on. My rule has always been visit on day of birth (I'm so high on endorphins I couldn't be brought down by anyone) or leave it a week (for milk to come in and the weepiness I always get along with it to pass) I've needed less downtime after each birth and have really loved visitors. I feel sorry for the OP and his wife in that post, it must be tricky to want different things.

I don't tell anyone when I'm in labour unless I need them for child care... I don't understand why anyone would? They'd know I was mooing and swearing etc and if I know one of my friends/family is in labour I worry for them so wouldn't want them to worry for me.

Bornin1984 · 12/03/2014 21:20

I can't tolerate metformin, it
Gives me very bad upset tummy! Hence the insulin!!

I had anaesthetic consultant today due to ongoin back problems and there's no reason why I can't have a spinal !!! Means dh can be there!

MrsFooCough · 12/03/2014 21:28

I really hope they say I can control with diet, or metformin at the most. I'm appalling with needles. I don't think I could handle having to inject myself. I see my dad do it and I just don't think I could. Making me really nervy just thinking about it Confused

The worst part of it is knowing I'll have to do the sodding finger pricks at least 4x a day! The one-off I had for the GTT was fine, but I think at least 40 more days of pregnancy, doing it at least 4x daily, will maybe cause me to run out of not-sore spots to do it on!! Haha. Maybe I'm overreacting. I was kind of expecting this but poor DH has started freaking out and he's made me start freaking out too, silly bastard. Eep.

Bornin1984 · 12/03/2014 21:34

Mrsfc,
Insulin needles are shorter than your
Finger nail :-) I have insulin 5 times a day. Check my
Blood sugars at least 7 times and take Prophaltic tinzaparin to prevent risk of dvt! I'm a walking
Pin cushionShock

MrsFooCough · 12/03/2014 21:39

Oh I know they're tiny! It's the prospect of them that's scary, that's all. If insulin therapy is necessary, then I'll man up and do it - but I don't have to like it lol Wink

Squiffie · 12/03/2014 21:39

Eek, bornin that sounds like a tough schedule!

The finger prick isn't all that bad Mrsfoo although ask me again in a week and it might be different
