WELCOME! Thanks This thread is for all Mums-to-be expecting Maybies babies in (and around) May 2014! Please come and join the fun.

Put your feet up, get yourself a (decaf?) cuppa Brew and settle in to hear the aches and pains, trials and tribulations, shopping excitement and hospital bag woes of those in their third trimester.

Hopefully you'll find a listening ear and a wealth of knowledge. Everyone welcome, especially if you're new to MN and are just peeking in as you start your maternity leave.

If you'd like to mark your place perhaps you could tell us who you are and how long you've got to go!

Happy chatting Maybies!

Hi ladies. Please forgive me for this long-winded, self-centred post, I just want to put it down in writing & maybe have some hand-holding.

I'm just home & tucked up in bed after spending 4 hours at the hospital day case unit. At about 10.30am I realised I couldn't say if baby had moved since the middle of the night, I just couldn't remember or be sure I felt anything. I was at work so I tried a few of the usual tricks (very cold water, caffeine, sugary snacks) to see if I could get baby moving. Didn't feel anything so phoned day case. Due to OC they told me to come in for monitoring immediately.
Typically once strapped to the monitor I had some movements, not a lot, but enough to alleviate concerns & the heartbeat was ok.
The monitoring showed tightenings, maybe Braxton hicks, and I had back pain & pain low down at the front, I was given paracetamol & dihydrocodeine for this, but still feeling sore regularly.
My BP has been rising slowly every visit to the day case unit, but usually drops during monitoring, but today it was around 134/98 & didn't come down the whole time I was there, so they took blood. Those test results were fine, but other things like high BP, headache, spots in front of my eyes occasionally, swollen feet, protein in urine all point towards pre-eclampsia so they want BP check by community midwife tomorrow, then full BP profile when I am at hospital on Thurs & see what the registrar thinks. I also see the consultant on Thurs when I'm there about OC & induction.
So I've been told to rest, drink plenty water, & if pains continue or get worse I've to phone labour ward.
Just going between feeling worried & anxious to thinking I must be exaggerating things.

MoominIsWaitingToMeetHerMiniMe · 25/03/2014 17:13

OH gone out to work, im just curled up on sofa feeling rubbish :( feel really warm and fuzzy head, struggling to keep liquids down and my scar is really sore on both ends. Ughhh everyones been telling me that pregnancy suits me, it probably does to look at but im ready to meet my baby now!!

sambababy · 25/03/2014 17:24

isean Thanks you're really going through a lot, no wonder you are feeling worried. Do rest as they said and try not to panic. You're in the best hands.

mamapants · 25/03/2014 17:48

How many weeks are you Isean?
I was induced under very similar circumstances with DS. We never actually confirmed whether I was suffering from pre eclampsia but as I was 39+4 at the time and DS' heartbeat started to become erratic whilst being monitored the hospital didn't want to take any chances.
Hope everything is ok for you but if you are over 37weeks then being induced shouldn't cause you any problems.

Isean · 25/03/2014 17:51

Thanks Samba & Mama, you are very kind.
I'm only 35+0 today, so still a bit early. They are planning to induce me around 38 weeks due to cholestasis anyway, but said they could do it earlier if things changed. One small problem is baby is still breech!

MoominIsWaitingToMeetHerMiniMe · 25/03/2014 18:06

Xpost isean, sorry to hear you're having such a rough time :( hope they can do something to relieve the discomfort :(

Isean · 25/03/2014 18:11

Thinking of you too Moomin, you've been having a rough time. We're so close in dates & both seem to have had a few problems recently. I also get told pregnancy suits me, I'm glowing/blooming & look great Shock I tell people it's the benefit of good make-up & plastering a smile on regardless of how I'm actually feeling!

NannyPlumForPM · 25/03/2014 18:31

Sorry to hear your going through such crap :( no time to name check- am currently chucking up my dinner- nice Hmm think I've officially sworn off pregnancy after this. Mother's Day on Sunday guys :) well done to all of us xxx

mamapants · 25/03/2014 18:51

Am sure at 35weeks they would be more likely to manage pre eclampsia if oyu had it with regular monitoring, rest and potentially medication if necessary.
Try not to worry. I've had traces of protein all through my pregnancy this time and hasn't been anything and the worry is bound to effect your blood pressure so could easily be nothing to worry about.

rebeccax2 · 25/03/2014 19:40

I feel so utterly miserable and hormonal... anyone else? I can't believe i have another 8 weeks of this.

I know I shouldn't worry but I'm really struggling with the weight gain both because I feel so unattractive and also heavy and tired.

I felt so good a few weeks ago! :-(

loopylou52 · 25/03/2014 19:42

Sorry you've had such a rough day isean, have a hand to hold and some Thanks Are you able to finish work or take time off? Fingers crossed the blood pressure stays low.

Sorry also to moomin, nanny and anyone else feeling rubbish tonight. I'm shattered and pretty stressed with work but still focussing on getting to the end of the week and starting mat leave.

BlanketSky · 25/03/2014 19:52

sorry to hear of people having a rough time- it will be worth it in the end though... I keep telling myself this too!

Re nursing bras I'd recommend these bras I've got two, one to wash, one to wear. They are soft but I find them very supportive (pre preg a 32G, now more like 34 GG or something) and can stretch to account for changes in cup size in the first couple of weeks. Been wearing them a couple of weeks now as my old bras were too tight, in a 32 with bra extenders as I know ribs will shrink as soon as this baby's head is out of them! I plan to wait until milk settles down (and make sure bf is going to happen, as I ended up ff DS) then buy something more 'fitted'.

Bornin1984 · 25/03/2014 22:15

Just glanced at the title of the recent April ante natal thread - they only on thread 4!!! Seems like months ago we were on thread4!!!

To be honest, i don't remember which number of thread we are WinkWinkWink

sambababy · 25/03/2014 22:45

We are a chatty bunch! At least I feel like I learn something almost every time I come on MN though. My DH probably thinks it's just silly gossip.

Thanks for the replies about the pre-eclampsia test. You are going to laugh again, because here they want me to collect each and every wee I do over the course of 24 HOURS in a bottle!! Sorry but I'm not going to work carrying a sodding bottle of wee with me. Angry And how am I going to get the 10 nighttime dribble wees into a bottle without being totally awake? Argh. Give me the NHS!

Ok rant over. I feel bad because lots of you have much more important things to worry about than bottles of wee.

NannyPlumForPM · 25/03/2014 22:49

I had to do that samba in uk after I had been diagnosed with pre exlMpsia and was in hospital! Was the last stage sort of thing- they gave me a Jug to catch it in and then pour into the bottle but it is def to do with PE :)

sambababy · 25/03/2014 23:26

Phew! Thank you nanny I'm actually glad to hear that. I was sure it was some crazy Brazilian way of doing things lol!

Squiffie · 26/03/2014 00:20

I'd actually forgotten until you mentioned it samba but I had to do a 24hr wee collection too - 'twas delightful Hmm

mrsmummytobe · 26/03/2014 04:57

Sorry isean to hear you're having such a tough time Thanks Also thinking of moomin, nanny & all others having a rough time of it.

Interesting to read about HVs. No mention of one here (central London).

mrsfoo I haven't shaved in ages but I do also get the itchiness. Been using palmers cocoa butter (not to mention a whole load of other creams & oils for bump & potential stretch mark areas) & that seems to help.

Well in other news it looks like our mortgage is going through Grin We are both so shocked as we had convinced ourselves it wouldn't happen! I'm still feeling really tentative about the whole thing but they are happy to lend us the money & are valuing the property on Friday so fingers crossed it will be a bit of a smoother ride now!

Brew & Cake to all you lovely ladies feeling down or hormonal.

dobedobedo · 26/03/2014 04:58

sam I had to do that too! Although I was in hospital by that stage so they just put a catheter in and did it for me. Hmm

Xavielli · 26/03/2014 05:52

Nursing bras: I swear by HotMilk they're not under wired but you really don't miss it - so supportive. I wouldn't buy them until about 2 weeks after baby though as you don't know how big you'll get and they're quite pricey. For the first weeks/night time I get nursing vests, wonderful things!

MrsFooCough · 26/03/2014 07:50

Hooray mrsmummy I'm so chuffed for you and DH! Well done Smile
I have Palmers somewhere ~rummages~ so I might slap some of that on? Fingers crossed it'll help!

loopylou52 · 26/03/2014 08:00

Great news on the mortgage mrsmummy! Smile

Re nursing bras, I got a Bravado one (via Amazon) which comes just in sizes s/m/l/xl etc so is meant to be good for changing size etc (each size covers a range of backs/cups). It's not the most glamorous of things but is nice and comfy. I might get another one like that so that hopefully they'll keep me going until size settles down and I can get some 'proper' ones.

Bornin1984 · 26/03/2014 08:08

34/40!!! Times flying by now!!!

impatientlywaiting · 26/03/2014 08:11

Congrats MrsMummy, brilliant news about your mortgage.

Off for me 34 week appointment today (at 35 weeks) going to mention my achey hands, they don't seem particularly swollen but always feel achey whenever I move them, and that I've started to see white floaters in my eyes occasionally. Anyone else having these symptoms?

impatientlywaiting · 26/03/2014 08:16

Just had a quick jaunt over at the April and March threads and got teary reading about some of the births. Can't believe that will be us so soon!
