WELCOME! Thanks This thread is for all Mums-to-be expecting Maybies babies in (and around) May 2014! Please come and join the fun.

Put your feet up, get yourself a (decaf?) cuppa Brew and settle in to hear the aches and pains, trials and tribulations, shopping excitement and hospital bag woes of those in their third trimester.

Hopefully you'll find a listening ear and a wealth of knowledge. Everyone welcome, especially if you're new to MN and are just peeking in as you start your maternity leave.

My dietician has said never ever
Bother with diabetic food! It's
Full of fat and laxatives!!!

Low fat, no added sugar, portion size is what they have told me

dobedobedo · 14/03/2014 08:32

psynl You lucky duck! I cannot wait for my last day at work. (3 weeks to go) Enjoy!

Mrsfoo be careful about some diabetic stuff. It has lots of artificial sweetner, stuff like diabetic jam for example, and it can give you the worst stomach cramps and squits!

dobedobedo · 14/03/2014 08:33

Oh also fake butter instead of real butter? You may as well just be dead! Grin

Butter is fine if you're diabetic - it doesn't have sugar in it!

MrsFooCough · 14/03/2014 08:48

I think this is his way of coping with the diagnosis, guys, but thank you for the advice! I'm usually ok with sweeteners and I get tummy cramps and diarrhoea anyway so that's nothing Grin haha but I know what you're saying, butter is something that I really do need to cling to in order to stay sane I think!
And as I don't have a blood glucose monitor yet, I'm trying to down my sugar levels before I go to the clinic on Wednesday, dunno what they'll do with me as I've already had the full GTT so I guess it's just going to be "don't be fat (stares at consultant as I've actually LOST weight since the BFP) and exercise more (stares again as I have crippling hip and back pain and nothing can really be done about it whilst I'm pregnant, walking to the toilet is a flipping challenge enough) and watch your diet - here's a glucose monitor, come back in a week"
I can live with that. But deny me butter and there will be consequences! Haha

NestingNesting123 · 14/03/2014 09:24

dobedo You are in the late stages of manufacturing an entire human and he is upset because he got disturbed? YANBU.

MoominIsWaitingToMeetHerMiniMe · 14/03/2014 09:45

Positive start: I only woke up once last night!

Full of laxatives?

adds diabetic food to the shopping list Wink Grin

Supposed to be getting a call from neurology today to let me know how soon they want me in. Hope it isn't too soon, I'm fed up Sad and OH has to go to work tonight and I'll miss him. Feel ridiculously clingy at the minute.

Pains in my scar went through the roof yesterday, cocodamol is the only thing keeping me sane and it's still only just taking the edge off. OH wanted to take me to hospital but I refused because there's nothing they can do about it. Someone suggested a TENS machine to me but you can only use them from 37 weeks onwards, and with my pulse being a bit racey at the minute I'm scared of doing anything that might make it worse.

I ended up crying to OH last night because if I can't handle this pain, what will I be like in labour. And also the guilt feelings came out because I'm taking cocodamol every 4-6 hours and a few people have told me baby will go through withdrawal when it's born and I feel so bad for putting my pain above baby's health Sad

Sorry... pity whine Sad sorry for everyone else who's feeling rubbish today! Trying to think positive, we're getting closer to newborn snuggles :)

Happy Friday all! Glad it's almost the weekend, but the realisation that I only have 2 weeks left of work and the person covering for me is clueless has panicked me! I think I'll end up spending a good portion of this weekend enhancing my notes on how to do my job and trying to get as much done as far in advance as possible! I work for a small organisation, there's only 5 of us, and I keep getting comments like "oh well you're just up the road if we need you" and "we'll be phoning you every other day to check things or find out how to do things" Hmm

I'm sorry for those struggling with GD or PGP/SPD, unless you've been through it people really don't understand. I've been fortunate to not have too much back/hip/pelvic pain so far or had to alter my diet so I can only offer my sympathies and virtual support!

I wish I was like some of you waking wanting snacks in the night, for me it's waking with intense itchiness, needing to pee, heartburn/reflux or like last night waking to throw up! My OH rarely wakes when I'm up in the night and if he does he is sweet and lovely, but falls straight back to sleep after checking I'm "ok" and then complains a bit of being tired in the morning! Tired! I mean honestly, he doesn't know the half of it!

ClearlyMoo · 14/03/2014 10:01

Unmumsnetty hugs for Moomin and Dobe and anyone else in need of a sneaky cwtch!

Moomin you could be onto something with Tens machine vs cocodamol. Met someone yesterday who used tens all the way through labour so it must be pretty effective. You're in theory (my MW said) supposed to stop cocodamol 2 weeks before delivery so the baby is awake for birth. So if you're going to term (I know there's no way of knowing) you could switch to tens at 38 weeks with no cocodamol. Perhaps?!

MW said baby needs to be monitored for 48hrs after birth in hospital if you've been taking cocodamol up until just before delivery.

dobedobedo · 14/03/2014 10:17

I have no experience of tens moomin but hopefully some of the other ladies can help. Labour hurts, but it's a different kind of pain to the usual pain you might have if something is wrong. If that makes sense. I actually enjoyed my labour with ds because it was "different". Maybe I make no sense!

Guess what? I just got a new client at work and they make BABY STUFF! Grin Specialising in mattresses for trade (mothercare, john lewis etc) so I'm going to have to go down there and wave my giant bump about to get a freebie! I haven't yet bought our cot mattress! How bloody poetic that the (probable) last new client I get before I go on maternity leave makes mattresses!

loopylou52 · 14/03/2014 11:51

Haha, that's handy dobe!

moomin, I say this with no experience whatsoever of labour, but maybe the amount of pain you've had to put up with so far over a long period of time will make labour seem like a breeze! If not quite that, it shows you're made of tough stuff so don't beat yourself up about struggling.

My mum had chronic back pain and was rarely parted from her TENS machine. My Dad's going to dig it out for me to try in early labour. Clearly's suggestion of using it to help you stop co-codamol after 37 weeks sounds like a good idea.

randdom · 14/03/2014 12:01

My cold is getting worse and I now have a horrible cough. I arrived at work this morning and was promptly sent home.

I just want to cry but feel stupid because it is just a cold and normally I can battle on through :(

Bornin1984 · 14/03/2014 12:25

Just been to the physio and she thinks I shouldn't go back to work as I've got bad swelling in my left hand!! No good when handling babies!!!

ClearlyMoo · 14/03/2014 12:46

I've just napped ALL morning! It was lovely but I was hoping to have a (slightly) more productive day. Shows how broken going to work yesterday made me! I'm on annual leave today (my choice to go down to 4days/week in final month) but it feels like a "waste" of a day off...

Oh BornIn! Rubbish! What is causing it?

mrsmummytobe · 14/03/2014 13:06

Hugs for dobe & moomin.

Isean I feel the same about my maternity cover! Got an awful feeling they will be emailing me all the time with questions :(

Well my feet have been feeling so swollen & achy recently I have popped out in my lunch break for a luxury pedicure! It includes 20 mins of foot massage & you get to sit in a massage chair the whole time so it's lovely & relaxing! DH has treated me to it as I keep moaning about my feet!

Squiffie · 14/03/2014 13:16

Dobe, YADNBU in regard to DH and what a handy client!

Oh no bornin, hope it gets better soon :(

Randdom colds are the devil when pregnant, I've had one and felt like I was dying!

Loopy I seem to remember midwife saying something about regular tens machines & ones used in labour aren't quite the same (was with ds though who's nearly 6 so I could be way off).

Hugs to those who need them, sorry if I've forgotten anyone!

Hope everyone else is having a good day. The sunshine is making me feel so much happier! X x

SarahJinx · 14/03/2014 13:17

So, I am pleased to report back that I have been to my Physio appointment and kept my trousers on the whole time! Total waste of shaving legs but at least it's done.

Hips are all out of whack apparently, lots of gentle - teeth gritting - manipulation, a good old poke down my pubic bone - shoot me, it felt nice! - and she's given me a load of exercises, a weightlifter style support belt for super glamness, and an invite to hydrotherapy which just sounds wonderful.

Everything feels so much less painful already. She thinks I have separated stomach muscles too, apparently the mound I get in my bump (anyone else?) is a classic sign?

Bornin, how strange, any ideas as to what that is?

Smiles and Thanks to anyone feeling rotten, third trimester is a bloody grind eh?

mrsmummytobe · 14/03/2014 13:32

bornin & randdom for some reason I didn't see your posts when I posted earlier. Hope you both feel much better soon. bornin is it just your left hand or both?

Well my legs & feet now feel a million times better & my toes have been painted for the first time in forever! I think my little baby girl enjoyed it too as there was lots of kicking & wriggling going on! :)

loopylou52 · 14/03/2014 14:43

Aw, sounds lovely mrsmummy!

Thanks squiffie, from what I can tell the main difference is that maternity TENS have a boost button, which is helpful for during contractions. For this reason I was looking into buying a maternity one second hand (seems a false economy to hire one). However I was talking to my physio about it and said she just borrowed a normal one from work and it was still really effective, so that made me think I should just save the money and stick with my mum's old one. I'll ask about it when I get my antenatal classes though.

randdom · 14/03/2014 15:36

SarahJinx glad that physio went well. Bornin the hand swelling doesn't sound great do they know why?

Have just woken up from a nap which has left me feeling a bit more human. Also one good bit of news is that I had a call from the hospital and my glucose test was normal which is a relief and I am not aneamic. 113 doesn't sound too bad for a veggie who has a tendency towards anaemia.

MoominIsWaitingToMeetHerMiniMe · 14/03/2014 16:01

So... has Tom Fletcher (out of McFly) stolen anyone's baby name? Buzz Michaelangelo Fletcher, apparently.

dobedobedo · 14/03/2014 16:03

Buzz Michaelangelo?! Damn it, now I'll have to think of something different! Wink

Bezzabelle · 14/03/2014 16:45

Ds would love it if we called baby Buzz as obsessed with toy story but think I'll pass!! Has everyone got their names sorted now?

Another one here with a cold and feeling rough. Was also woken up by dh who told me I was snoring like a train!!!! Had taken hours to get comfortable and to sleep after 3 wee breaks- if I'm snoring, means I'm asleep so leave me! I did wake myself up a couple times with how loud my snoring was though-oops!

Have a good weekend everyone.

moobaloo · 14/03/2014 17:48

Baby not moving much Sad kicked once at 2 and again about 3.30 but only the once each time and not felt much else. Am lying down having just eaten cake but am worried. He's not much of a mover and I have an anterior placenta so this wouldn't have worried me but just had a few days of lots of activity so doesn't feel right...

Grrrrr worrying thing!

MoominIsWaitingToMeetHerMiniMe · 14/03/2014 18:02

moo the advice I was given was that if something doesn't feel right w/regards to movements, call the antenatal unit.

Cold drink, something sugary, music, lying on left side and if all else fails, if there's anyone there who can blow a raspberry on bump, it's the sure fire way of getting this one wiggling! Hope you start getting more movements soon but as you say, if you have anterior placenta, it could be that everything's fine. Most important thing though is to stop you worrying!

Thanks for the advice re: Tens, will speak to midwife next week and if she says it sounds like an ok idea, will hire the machine and use it to help me stop the cocodamol. I will be honest I am wondering how much more I can take of this now though Sad
