WELCOME! Thanks This thread is for all Mums-to-be expecting Maybies babies in (and around) May 2014! Please come and join the fun.

Put your feet up, get yourself a (decaf?) cuppa Brew and settle in to hear the aches and pains, trials and tribulations, shopping excitement and hospital bag woes of those in their third trimester.

Hopefully you'll find a listening ear and a wealth of knowledge. Everyone welcome, especially if you're new to MN and are just peeking in as you start your maternity leave.

Think it must be iron; I've had a bowl of cereal and a glass of orange juice this morning so nothing high in caffeine. Every time they've done my pulse since my iron results came back low, it's been over 115, pushing 130 at times which they aren't happy with. For the next few days I'm taking the iron and the cocodamol and just dealing with the side effects as and when they happen Sad

Bornin1984 · 13/03/2014 12:03

Diet, metformin then insulin is what they usually like to try in that order of treatments!!!

I wish I was gdm! Been a diabetic for almost ten years!!!!

Bornin1984 · 13/03/2014 12:04

Moomin when is your appt?

MoominIsWaitingToMeetHerMiniMe · 13/03/2014 12:21

Consultant is Tuesday, Midwife next Thursday.

NannyPlumForPM · 13/03/2014 13:17

They didn't even suggest metaformin! Maybe due to one of my other (many many woe is me) problems I can't have it? Am on the iron and aspirin- now blood pressure is only 115/55 which is quite low! I think I'm on some other tablet for proctitis too which could affect metaformin? Who knows!!!

I'm not so fussed about the insulin to be honest- but I'm feeling dizzy from low bp and iron and can't bolster myself with chocolate like usual :( grump grump. Gorgeous weather though- and fingers crossed for a few winners at Cheltenham!

Squiffie · 13/03/2014 13:20

Its my first day of testing my blood sugar levels but so far so good, fingers crossed! My consultant wants fasting of below 5 and after food of below 7!

I've joined a facebook group called "gestational diabetes mamas" it's a very supportive group if anyone is interested?

Can't imagine how you cope bornin think it would drive me insane.

Was going to suggest metformin too, nanny. Hope you get sorted anyway.

Thanks for the links mrsfoo.

Sorry you're feeling rubbish moomin, hope you feel better soon!

hobbjobb · 13/03/2014 13:41

dobe she just said I'm not eating enough carbs. Although I'm sure I am, I had missed lunch yesterday as was planning on having it after the appt and they ran over an hour late so hadn't eaten when I gave my urine sample so that may have been why.
So she said to eat more carbs, preferably low gi like brown bread, brown rice/pasta etc. so I immediately left and had a macdonalds Blush it was gooood!
My blood levels seem to be easily managed with food, I've only had one high reading of 7.7 all week so and my before food levels are always under 5 so my bloods are good but maybe because I am not eating enough without realising. Argh!

I was on metformin for a couple of years for PCOS, I only stopped it when I got my BFP. it does give some people dodgy tummies but never affected me, even if I knocked it back without food. I'm pretty sure it regulated my periods which allowed me to get pregnant so I bloody love the stuff.

Thanks for the links mrsfoo I will have a look.

Here's this thread, all gangsta!

moas · 13/03/2014 14:02

moomin I take Floradix liquid iron and have had no side effects, it's very gentle on the system! The only negative is the price, £17 for 500ml, which only lasts you 25 days. Might be worth a try though, if nothing else helps.

hobbjobb · 13/03/2014 14:02

dobe love it! I'm crying...

Wings13 · 13/03/2014 14:11

Hey all, had a quick scoot through the thread but am so wrecked today, can't even remember what I read! Dd has been getting sick since yesterday lunch time cause of high temp and antibiotic for throat is just kicking in now. Have been up most of the night - good preparation some may say for things to come..

Anyway, she is off crèche now so am on my own with her and therefore getting nothing done that I need or wanted to get done this week. Have washed all the newborn clothes but still feel totally disorganized. Hopefully next week will be more productive!

Squiffie · 13/03/2014 14:42

Oh no wings, hope your little one is feeling better soon. X x

MoominIsWaitingToMeetHerMiniMe · 13/03/2014 14:47

moas I asked and they said the amount of iron in any of the liquid ones wouldn't be enough to get my iron levels back up quick enough Sad thanks for the suggestion though.

Love it dobe Grin 'aint talkin about chicken and gravy yo'

impatientlywaiting · 13/03/2014 16:14

Moomin I'm another one with anemia and a racing pulse. Sometimes I can't control my pulse or temperature and left feeling awful and faint for a little while.

Cbeebies thanks for the info about the sore tongue, mine hurts after pretty much every meal, but I had no idea that was related to anemia!

So most exciting day ever for me. Both of DH's sisters have announced they are pregnant! So the baby will have 2 cousins that are 6 months younger than him. I'm so pleased, both my sisters have had all of their kids and wasn't expecting DH's side to have them any time soon, so it's so lovely to think by Christmas there will be 3 babies in the family.

psynl · 13/03/2014 16:41

With regards to GD, the guidelines must differ due to area. I've been able to manage mine through diet but my fasting levels are below 6 and after meals is below 8. It might be worth checking your trust is following NICE guidelines and using that as leverage not to have more intervention.

dobedobedo · 13/03/2014 16:46

Those of you pregnant with your first babies - your squashy little newborns, tiny and little and totally dependent on you for cuddles and food and everything.

Fastforward a few years and imagine what it's like when their first sex book arrives from amazon! Grin

I ordered a "let's talk about sex" book which discusses where babies come from (ds knows sex makes babies, but he doesn't know what sex is, except it's something rude/hilarious).

So I get to go home, give him a chocolate star cookie from Greggs and a book which will scare inform him about puberty, relationships, boys and girls' bodies and just exactly what dh and I did that created his new little brother! Blush hopefully it won't mention the vat of alcohol consumed beforehand

My baby is all growing up!

Chip86 · 13/03/2014 17:03

Moomin glad you have some appointments with midwife so you can talk about all of this hope your better soon

another day in hospital with headache they tried me on co-dydramol for pain but it did nothing they wanted to keep me in and keep putting me on stronger and stronger pain killers untill pain went or i was on morphyn Shock so i have come home to rest got GP to sign me off for a week and hope eating sleeping and drinking lots of water it will go on it own.
One good thing pain threshold must be better than i thought Grin

Bornin1984 · 13/03/2014 17:15

One does think a tummy bug has
Rocked up at casa bornin!!!! Shakes and freezing and belly ache Confused

PotatoPolly · 13/03/2014 19:05

Just a quick straw poll...

Today I started to feel like I had a blind spot on the left side of my left eye, and started to feel a bit funny.

Fast forward half an hour and a wave of pins and needles came over me; right hand so it went numb, in my mouth and gums and on my face and then kind of faded out.

Just got home and now my right hand has pins and needles.

I've got 31 week midwife appt tmo, but would you call tonight? Everything seems to happen when I've got MW the next day or if DH is at work! Tonight it's both!

Thanks Smile

impatientlywaiting · 13/03/2014 19:29

I would call potato. They can always reassure you over the phone if its nothing to worry about, but think its def worthwhile checking with them.

dobedobedo · 13/03/2014 19:39

Call the labour ward potato and go and get checked for pre eclampsia. Go now. Update us later. Hope all is okay x

LongTailedTit · 13/03/2014 19:48

Potato -I'd call if I were you. Friend of mine had Bells Palsy in pregnancy, so any one-sided numbness reminds me of that. Can you see someone tonight, OOH doc or A&E?

PotatoPolly · 13/03/2014 19:57

I feel like I'm in a really strange mood, I've totally lost my memory but the midwife just told me not to worry as it didn't spuds like anything to be worried about, or anything to do with being regnant!
What would you do then?!!

Bornin1984 · 13/03/2014 19:59

Go get seen.
