Oh bex that's an option I am looking at too the buffalo, I need something that does 'off road' lol, can I ask where you got the offer?? (sits on hands waiting) Grin

I have decided on the cotbed I want though silver cross kew. Smile

lottie you poor thing, hang in there, huge hugs xxx

BexBoo12 · 16/03/2014 09:51

Whiteblossom it's from a shop close to us called the baby store in Warrington. We got the pram, car seat, ISO fix, car seat adapters, material package etc for just under £1000, sounds expensive but everywhere we looked the pram was £900 without the material package or car seat adapter, not to mention car seat and ISO fix on top so we jumped at the offer. We were so made up. That's the exact reason we went for it too - we have a dog who would be devastated if we had to stick to path walks!! The lady in the shop even let me take it outside onto the muddy grass to see how it held up. Was very impressed with the pram, and the shop is wonderful too. They do have a website - just google the baby store Warrington, so if you make your decision for definite, and the shop isn't close to you, it could be an option to order online? Xx

BexBoo12 · 16/03/2014 09:52

Oh whiteblossom, forgot to day I think we may have similar taste Wink we've also chosen a silver cross cotbed, it's called nostalgia I think, the sleigh version Grin

Lottiedoubtie · 16/03/2014 10:04

Thanks for the kind comments guys. I'm feeling comparatively much better, going home later with new meds. Dehydration got the better of me yesterday.

whiteblossom · 16/03/2014 10:11

lol bex, I think Im close enough to pop in! I Just priced up the buffalo, adapters. colourway and footmuff at mothercare at £834.62 (they have 15% off) then Id need carseat and isofix base....

Im off to have a look at the website now Grin What colour did you choose?

I just felt baby move to right hand side of belly gone all hard and sticky up Grin

BexBoo12 · 16/03/2014 10:14

We went for black and off white - pretty neutral to go with either pink of blue blankets Grin I'm guessing you're pretty close to Warrington then! We were thinking of ordering the cot bed this weekend to take advantage of the 15% off at mothercare

CoolCat2014 · 16/03/2014 10:55

Hi all, I'm new here, 15wks +5, due sept 2nd, very excited as our 1st :)

Just wondering if it's normal to not have gained any weight yet? I had MS pretty bad and lost 10lbs, seems like it might be finally getting a bit better, but just can't eat enough (so not what I expected!) got a little bit of a bump, my old trousers don't fit anymore, so hoping that's a good sign!

TheOnlySeven · 16/03/2014 12:50

Hi coolcat. I've not put on any weight yet, I weigh the same as my pre-pregnancy weight despite my huge DC4 bump.

I'm so thankful that we don't need to buy much, it's so expensive. We have a Phil & teds, DD1 now walks most of the time so the second seat is free, we've also just bought DS a single bed, the toddler bed needs painting for DD1 then her cot is free for the baby. Just a shame we chucked the car seat, Moses basket and newborn clothes as we weren't having any more!

CoolCat2014 · 16/03/2014 13:00

Hi TheOnlySeven - glad to hear it's not just me then!

We've got everything to buy as this is our first... Want to figure out what we really need and what actually isn't needed! For example - dh wants a Moses basket, but is it really useful? Someone is giving us a crib so surely that's enough until baby is ready for cot?

BexBoo12 · 16/03/2014 13:12

Coolcat, I'm thinking the same as you - will we need a Moses basket? DH wants a crib in our bedroom so baby can be rocked - plus they last baby longer than a Moses basket. However we have been given a practically brand new Moses basket so that will stay in the living room til baby is too big for it to save me climbing the stairs several times a day when I don't need to Smile

weebairn · 16/03/2014 13:17

Coolcat. I haven't weighed myself but I have no bump and clothes fit the same (this is DC2). Pretty normal at this stage I think. Though i think we find anything to worry about!

It doesn't HAVE to be that expensive. We were given a moses basket but baby mostly just slept in our bed for the first 6 months or so. I bought a lovely cot off ebay, good as new, for about £40. We did buy a pushchair new - I think it was £200, the baby city jogger, very versatile - but not till a few months old. I got a sling off ebay too - there is a "sling library" in my city where you can try them out cheaply, and then I bought a secondhand one, which I used absolutely loads until baby was about one.

You don't need everything up front either - as long as baby has somewhere to sleep, something to be carried in, some nappies in the first size and some simple things to wear (get babygros and vests, leave the outfits to the gifts!!) you're all good. Muslins are useful. I breastfed so we didn't need much kit there either. I found it easier to buy some of the stuff later, once I got the hang of what was going on! (We didn't buy pushchair or cot for a few months). If you have a car you'll need a car seat and they do recommend that it is new. I found a sling much more practical than a pushchair until baby was about 6 months old, though that might be because I live in a flat and there are stairs.

You may find people are super-generous and give you loads of lovely things when the baby is born. We got piles of clothes and toys and books. Babies really don't need that much. Sometimes it's hard to resist buying lovely things though Wink

Crib should be fine instead of moses basket - you may find when young babies like to sleep on you though! Also some people say babies grow out of moses baskets very quickly so you don't get much use out of them- my DD was fine in it till about 6 months but she was quite small.

TheOnlySeven · 16/03/2014 13:20

Call me seven :)

Newborns spend most of their time asleep, Moses baskets are handy to have downstairs so when baby is sleeping you can still be nearby without having to hold the sleeping baby. Honestly if you put your few days old newborn upstairs to sleep in the day by the time you get downstairs you'll feel like you've lost an arm :o. I'd only say don't bother with one if you're planning on buying a wrap and baby-wearing most of the day.

TheOnlySeven · 16/03/2014 13:25

They do grow out of them quickly, DD1 was four months and that was with being a month early! And definitely no to buying loads of cute outfits. They're more of a faff to put on and some babies are really sicky, baby grows are much easier if they need changing six times a day!

TheOnlySeven · 16/03/2014 13:27

Tbh it also depends on if you want more children. My Moses basket done 3 babies so it worked out about a tenner per baby.

weebairn · 16/03/2014 13:39

I used to just sleep the baby wherever. On a blanket on the floor. Though mostly she wouldn't be put down…

I am slacker mum tho Wink

isitme1 · 16/03/2014 14:22

I had the carry cot from the pram downstairs for when ds2 was asleep. For ds1 we had a crib downstairs.

Cribs last longer. We also had a stoke day sleeper which I used at night for ds2 and that was handy. Dc3 will be in the cot as im moving the boys to a bunk bed. We live in a 1 room flat thingy (well its a house but ds1 sn means he needs 24 hour care and ds2 is too young to move yet)

isitme1 · 16/03/2014 14:23

Ps weebarins idea is the best. Blanket on the floor as long as everyone knows baby is there its the safest plus free

whiteblossom · 16/03/2014 14:47

I took the dog out for a walk today and my dog walking jeans barely fit and they were mahoosive before, I had to wear a belt to keep them up!!

Ive just ordered a pre natal pilates dvd, Ive really got to get myself into more of an exercise routine, pre December I was very into the gym/dvd's/swimming/walking and now I feel like a flabby mess Sad

al I can hear is my dh and ds downstairs giggling & shouting, they have the football on 3d hd...boys and their toys eh.

by the way mayo is ok right? I know homemade is out but the hellmans is ok??

Fairypants · 16/03/2014 14:48

Dd1 wouldn't sleep in her Moses basket and ended up in our bed with a barrier down the side. Dd2 went straight into our bed and occasionally into the carrycot from her pram.
We're planning on getting a snuzpod bedside crib this time as it seems the best compromise between sleeping in our bed and in a cot. We'll also have a carrycot with the pram which can be used downstairs during the day.

Fairypants · 16/03/2014 14:51

Yes hellmans is fine.
I'll be back to Pilates soon too, my teacher is setting up an antenatal class as I have to be really careful due to SPD.

KatharineClover · 16/03/2014 16:09

isitme I've been having lots of headaches too - totally different from DS's pregnancy which was free from headaches (bliss! as I get migraines every month with my cycle). There are lots of old wives' tales about headaches in pregnancy predicting gender, but they seem to contradict themselves!
We have ordered a travel system too (I got rid of all DS's stuff early as I was adamant I wasn't having another!) - Mothercare xpedior - as it has money off. DH is very excited about it (any excuse for a new 'gadget'!).

xxmissbrightsidexx · 16/03/2014 17:31

I think I might invest in one of these rather than a moses basket www.poddlepod.com/the-original-poddle-pod-17-c.asp www.poddlepod.com/poddle-covers-1876-p.asp xx

Hope everyones okay, we've just had dinner- beef stew & dumplings with garlic and herb potatoes and Yorkshire puddings. The actual stew tasted minging I don't know why lol, quite gutted really cos I was hungry for once lol xx

CoolCat2014 · 16/03/2014 18:34

Thanks everyone - hadn't thought that it would be handy downstairs, think I've seen friends use bouncers, but that's a very good idea for baby to sleep in :)

topmammy · 16/03/2014 18:35

Just had a look at the Bugaboo prams some of you have been mentioning. They look lovely and good quality, although rather pricey! You get what you pay for I guess. Anyway, I saw one (pretty sure it was the buffalo one) in a cafe the other day and was trying to inconspicuously figure out if it would fit into the boot of my (new model) KA. Anyone have any experience of whether one of them would fit into a small car boot?

I'm not decided yet on the Moses basket issue, haha. I think I want a gliding crib in our bedroom and maybe a Moses basket downstairs, but then again I just know my cats would use it probably more than the baby!

I am also now wondering whether one of those cribs that attach to the side of your bed might be better. Oh gosh, there is too much choice! Anyone else feeling a bit lost/overwhelmed with what to get?!

Anyone feeling any movements? I have been feeling a bubbly feeling on and off loads over the past few days, and i'm definitely not hungry or have an upset stomach lol. Still waiting for a proper kick though!

whiteblossom · 16/03/2014 19:09

topmammy Im not a fan of moses baskets, didn't work for my first, the ONLY thing he would sleep in was a swing. If you buy a pushchair with a carrycot then that will work instead of a moses b so kinda best of both. Personally I would get a gliding crib, movement is what worked for my ds though I do plan on getting a cacoonababy

Honestly Im buying EVERYTHING that might aid sleep Grin my first never ever slept and its a killer.

I was advised my the hospital to roll a towel and put it around sides of moses so baby felt more secure....it didn't work, we were also told to put moses in the cot to aid transition...er no..but what did work was the gliding nursing chair and for that reason I wont be getting another, as I lived on it for years! I plan to put the cacoonababy in the cot straight off-these have rave reviews. A back up is a gliding crib and the back up back up is my nana!! Grin

If your bf'ing a friend tells me that the bednest crib is amazing, she simply pulls over baby to her and slides her back. nct shop rent them out also.
