Someone I know is off on a maternity boudoir shoot today. Anyone else inclined to do this?

www.redbowboudoir.com/galleries/maternity

Personally I think its barking but each to their own Grin

Am in vomit city but can't get through to the doctors, usual post bank holiday chaos.

HomeIsWhereTheGinIs · 22/04/2014 15:30

Liquid State just wanted to drop in to thank you for the laugh - that website is hilarious! I remember our wedding photographer wanted us to do something similar for an "engagement shoot". So very very tacky don't you think? I mean to say, what would you DO with those photos? Frame them?

The closer I get to the birth, the more I think that the parenting industry is even more ludicrous than the wedding one. Bronzes to preserve your pregnant tummy for posterity anybody?

HomeIs

oh those sculptures!
glad I never bothered, we'd have a gallery by now and nowhere to store toys!Grin

ismarah · 22/04/2014 15:40

The skin-safe material used to make most body casts is called dental alginate. It is very very minty refreshing. Having done an arm cast once, which tingled quite a lot, my mind is blown just imagining the kicks!

Feeling irrationally grumpy and slightly fragile today. Which then in turn makes me grumpy.

liquidstatehasrisenagain · 22/04/2014 15:55

What makes it more mind boggling is that her husband is a good photographer and has already done lots of arty bump shots. She has a baby shower and am wondering if this was a present from her friends?

So glad am surrounded by sensible people. Except my brother who wants to do a film of my bump moving and set it to techo music Hmm.

HomeIsWhereTheGinIs · 22/04/2014 16:08

Very amusing! Quite like the techno idea - assume you've got visible kicks popping out too then?

Live and let live, obviously...but I find those shoots really, really funny. Like engagement shoots where people dress up in flowing linen and have photos taken of them looking deep into each others eyes whilst holding fish etc...

NancyinCali · 22/04/2014 16:58

I'm sitting in a lab for my GTT - one hour down, one to go. So hungry!

icklekid · 22/04/2014 17:24

Arhh still feeling rubbish and tired- not surprised after so little sleep!

I do find pregnancy shoots amusing but the body cast is just wierd - no idea what you do with them.

The doctor I normally see wasn't in today so hes going to call tomorrow so hopefully can pick up new prescription- going in for next midwife appointment anyway. ..

Hello ladies, I am so pleased I found this thread! I am due July 26 and am so excited to finally feel like I am getting there now!!

We found out the other day we are expecting a little boy as well :)

So lovely to see other ladies going through the same things I am too, makes me feel much more sane!Grin

AuntieMaggie · 22/04/2014 17:44

Right first antenatal class tomorrow - apparently with a physio... is it a trousers affair?

Patchwork88 · 22/04/2014 18:03

Liquid those photos gave me a good giggle...especially the big red bow one. Each to their own though, i didn't even want the free engagement shoot we were offered. If I was to have a pregnancy shoot I know it would require some heavy photoshopping to remove the yucky stretch marks and all the lumps and bumps. Have been using mama mio stretch mark oil since January but doesn't seem to have made any difference, unless I've been too stingey with it!!
Took an extra day off today so having a lovely afternoon painting the border onto our nursery wall with hubby. Cot arrived today so once paint is dry can set it up... yay!!
Starting to get really excited!

Patchwork88 · 22/04/2014 18:04

Auntie...Forgot to say if you're going to see physio trousers will be easier but not sure in the context of an antenatal class!

Casmama · 22/04/2014 18:24

Ah sorry to hear that AuntieMaggie, that must be some pretty hardcore heartburn- you have my sympathies if not any helpful suggestions x

HomeIsWhereTheGinIs · 22/04/2014 19:23

A quick query ladies as you're all about the same way along (I'm 29w at the moment). Does anyone else get sustained periods of constant (albeit painless) pressure on the front of their tummy pushing down, especially after they've been moving around a lot? I've been assuming that this is BH but it's the bottom of my tummy and all the way across the front rather than across the top?

Fox28 · 22/04/2014 19:23

Welcome Hannah! You have the same due date as me! Smile

ZingHasAHotCrossBunInTheOven · 22/04/2014 19:42

hi Hannah, welcome!

it's nice to talk about pg related stuff with people who actually care for once!Grin

hannahlucyellen · 22/04/2014 19:57

Fox28 Do you feel like you're finally getting there?! I felt my pregnancy has dragged up to this point, but I can actually imagine the little guy being here now! But also becoming more real watching OBEM I do actually have to do that!!

hannahlucyellen · 22/04/2014 19:58

zing I know what you mean I work mainly with men, and although many of them are Dads I can see their eyes glaze over at times!

mummytobejuly2014 · 22/04/2014 20:08

is anyone planning on using a Tens machine? debating whether to rent one or not :s
guess I should wait til scan in june to make sure placenta has moved tho before paying for the hire?

icklekid · 22/04/2014 20:11

Yes auntie go for trousers just incase- hope it goes well.

hannah know what you mean about it dragging but getting into final trimester has definitely helped the end is in sight- I think May will also make it feel nearer! Oh and welcome!!!

ZingHasAHotCrossBunInTheOven · 22/04/2014 20:19

about Tens - I never tried it so have no personal view on it re it's usefulness.

some friends did try but found it either too much hassle/not working or working and a good distraction/something to concentrate on.

probably best to wait until you know about position of placenta.

(I swear by combo of gas & air at first, then epidural that wears off by the time you need to push)

ellentullo · 22/04/2014 20:19

homeiswheretheginis - I get a very similar feeling in lower belly. Aware of tightness, a kind of dragging sensation and it feels rock solid to touch but not painful as such. Seems to happen when walking fast, and other times a bit randomly. I am interpreting this as a good sign!

ellentullo · 22/04/2014 20:23

Anyone else allowing themselves some wine again? Although I feel a bit guilty admitting it, now heartburn is a bit better I have had a couple of glasses tHis week. Swing between loving it, feeling guilty and worrying that I will now have a baby gargoyle.

ZingHasAHotCrossBunInTheOven · 22/04/2014 20:33

Home and Ellen

yes, that's Braxton Hicks.
it feels like a muscle spasm because that's what it is.
I think of it as a squeezy hug for baby and often wonder if that's one of the reasons tight hugs make us safe, because we all experienced it 'in utero' and our brains remember it?Smile

ZingHasAHotCrossBunInTheOven · 22/04/2014 20:41

and ellen I think your baby will come out singing "what shall we do with the drunken sailor?"

Grin

if it relaxes you why not?
you digest most of it before any alcohol gets into the bloodstream so will probably effect baby a little bit, but I never believe it's actually that harmful if you are being sensible.

and that depends on how big your glass is!Wink Grin
