Ooh.

icklekid · 20/04/2014 05:11

Asda is online now, in store tomorrow. I wonder if anyone knows how often these baby events are on? Will there be another before July? Bit of an expensive month but probably worth stocking up on essentials when on offer?

Looking online it would seem to recommend getting bottles and steriliser even if planning on breastfeeding? Is that right?

Plateofcrumbs · 20/04/2014 07:31

I've heard the opposite ickle - that it's so easy to pick up a few bottles and some formula at the supermarket or on next day home delivery, you may as well wait to see if/when you need them. You've always got boiling/dishwasher/Milton for sterilising rather than having a purpose bought contraption.

Lots of kicks this morning and for the first time really saw/felt a little limb sticking out of my bump! Kind of freaky!

lentilpot · 20/04/2014 10:07

I was undecided about whether it was a good idea to get bottles etc in advance, but ended up buying a manual tommee tippee breast pump for £11 in an amazon sale a while back - it comes with a bottle and a small microwave steriliser, so I feel like that's just enough to feel like it's there if we need it, but not overboard. I'll probably pick up one or two pre-mixed bottles of formula just in case.

The pump itself has really mixed reviews, but we'll see!

fifi669 · 20/04/2014 11:05

I would get bottles and a steriliser. I bf DS til boobs gave up and went to combination feed, then bottle. If you're planning on expressing it's helpful to have a supply of sterilised bottles on stand by. You'll find that first off you may not be able to express much at all as your boobs will produce in line with baby I.e. Little and often

AuntieMaggie · 20/04/2014 11:07

ickle some of the stuff in the events aren't much cheaper to be honest once you have a look online for them elsewhere and this must be the second lot of events since xmas. And my local asda had their event on when I was there last week.

breastpumps As with nappies and baby bottles I think these are down to personal preference - in a group of 8 friends I'd say they were split 50/50 about whether they preferred/got on with electrical or manual pumps. But I don't think you're supposed to use them for the first month or so anyway and then I'm going to see if I can borrow some to try.

Casmama · 20/04/2014 12:05

My DS was in scbu for a few days when he was born but I was really keen to bf so the hospital let me use an electric breast pump as soon as my milk came in- day 3 I think. They recommended 10 mins on each boob to see how much I could get.

What I took from this was that there was no way I could hand pump for 20 mins and it might have needed to be longer as I think manual pumps tend to be less effective- could be wrong about that though.

I did buy an electric pump but waited till about 6 weeks I think to make sure bf was going to be successful and it was worth the £60.

I think the recommendation not to in the first month may be due to not confusing the baby as bottle feeding gives the baby the milk in a much faster and more consistent way ie less effort so you don't want them refusing the breast.

lentilpot · 20/04/2014 12:19

I've mainly bought the pump because I'm a bit worried about my flat/inverted nipples and read that having a pump on hand can help! If I actually need to pump full time I plan to hire from the NCT while I research which one would suit me best.

MovingUpwards · 20/04/2014 14:26

Thanks for the welcome zing and ickle Thanks

Is anyone else already finding it a struggle to breathe sometimes? I'm 27 weeks today and already feel like baby is taking up so much room I can't really breathe deeply! Might be partially down to me being small ( I'm 5ft2) but wasn't expecting this till the last few weeks.

Also I should know this by now but when does baby go head down? I know I've still a wee while yet but all the kicking and movements I feel are

MovingUpwards · 20/04/2014 14:29

Oops posted that too soon..

All the movements I feel are lower/mid belly area, is that normal for this stage?

Hope you are all having a lovely Easter. Cake

ZingHasAHotCrossBunInTheOven · 20/04/2014 14:43

Happy Easter to all of you!

moving

yes, it means baby is either breech or transverse (lying across).
I'm the same, mine is transvere, head on left side, bottom is right side, kicks are felt mainly at the front and down below.

nothing to worry about as there's plenty of time for baby to turn head down - having said that I know mine is longer than average and if it gets "stuck" due to length I might end up with an ELSC.
we shall see.

MrsB2013 · 20/04/2014 18:34

Happy Easter!!!

I think I must have a very wriggly baby, I feel movement and kicks all over my tummy!

BlueC2 · 20/04/2014 18:55

As an aside the Pico bowl is on offer for £15 with 2 pico tapas plates for hosts in May at £250 level if Kylie interested in hosting during May? Happy Easter lovely ladies Easter Smile

I hope everyone has suitably indulged in Easter chocolate! Thankfully DS doesn't realise how big Easter eggs actually are as he's only had a small portion Blush

I've been aching all over all day and sooo tired but totally self inflicted as I stood up for ages chatting at a friends birthday brunch yesterday morning and then aft-late evening spent rearranging furniture starting to clear the spare room/office ready to change it into Ds's new room. I know I shouldn't really be helping carry wardrobes upstairs at this stage but better now than in a few more weeks eh?!

V excited to start getting rooms sorted though and the new crib (Saplings Katie one) should arrive on Tuesday :)

zing baby transverse here too though unlikely to be too long as DH and I are both short! moving I get breathless every time I climb the stairs!

ZingHasAHotCrossBunInTheOven · 20/04/2014 19:09

if you get breathless it is worth checking out iron levels again.

but of course it might just be baby growing and lungs getting squashed a bit.
wait till we are overdue! we'll all sound like Darth Vader!Grin

AuntieMaggie · 20/04/2014 19:24

You've completely lost me...

Ipsumlorem · 20/04/2014 19:27

Happy Easter everyone - hope you all had a good day! Another one here out of breath climbing the stairs etc. Had iron levels checked and they were fine - also don't feel out of breath swimming so I suspect baby is just squashing my lungs a bit! Like you moving am another shorty so probably running out of space in there! Smile Like zing says though always worth a check of the iron first.

Think my friend is annoyed at me - had to back out of an Easter ramble today as my pelvis is just too sore to walk far. There were other people going anyway and I did offer to meet for dinner out after (would have been part of the outing anyway) but as I haven't heard anything all day I'm going to assume I'm in the bad books. Oh well! got lunch arranged with another friend tomorrow and had a nice wee pottering about in the garden day today with dh so feel content enough Smile

However, does anyone else feel a bit pathetic at times? I feel like I'm really bad at being pregnant as I don't think people that sailed through it with no sickness/back ache etc really understand how much it takes it out of you and think you are just being a bit of a drama queen?

liquidstatehasrisenagain · 20/04/2014 19:49

Hurrah I'm back! Stupid password reset wouldn't work so I had to rejoin Hmm.

I am also breathless although not all of the time. I have switched bump brace to the Cantaloop from John lewis which I can wear all day and SPD has eased somewhat. Baby kicking away but frankly won't be counting kicks as far too busy trying to finish all the jobs that need doing before baby is born.

I hate feeling pathetic. To make it worse have started blubbing in public when I can't do something or feel stupid as forgetfulness is bad.

DH driving me nuts. By breathing and talking mostly. Grin

fifi669 · 20/04/2014 20:00

I didn't suffer with DS and couldn't understand what some women were moaning about..... This time I'm do uncomfortable, hips so sore etc I def know now!

AuntieMaggie · 20/04/2014 20:00

ipsum I had no sickness but the pelvic problems are making me feel pathetic - DP has done a fantastic job decorating this weekend whilst I've sat around doing not much because I can't manage much and every time I try something I can manage he tells me off Hmm though apparently beer and pizza was very much appreciated last night but I hate depending on someone else so much :( I stood up for as long as it took for me to cut up a pineapple earlier and had to sit down...

I have noticed a difference in breathlessness in the past couple of weeks which as my bloods are fine I assume are to do with the growing bump.

liquid you made me smile... DP frequently drives me nuts by breathing and talking... mostly breathing at night Grin

BlueC2 · 20/04/2014 20:35

Sorry auntie looks as though my phone was doing strange copying and pasting Blush oops!

BlueC2 · 20/04/2014 21:38

So another sure sign of my current pregnant state (other than not proof reading my posts!) is crying at Toy Story 3 when Andy gave his toys away to the little girl Blush :) Oh dear!

Casmama · 20/04/2014 22:04

Lol - my DS has a book of toy story 3 and I can't read it at the moment because I well up too much at the end!

icklekid · 20/04/2014 22:07

Happy easter all!

blue was also totally confused by this Pico bowl chat but I'm going to ignore that!

Ipsum pathetic at times...try all the time!

Glad I'm not the only one who does too much and suffers for it. Hard not to live life!

Welcome back liquid glad you sorted password stuff out.

Feeling dreadful tonight so in bed for half an hour all ready! Going to my favourite restaurant tomorrow for lunch so I will be better by then! Got a wedding invitation today but its 2 weeks after due date so think will have to decline Easter Sad know how expensive weddings are per guest and no way of knowing in advance how will be- is local so if can go to service will try. Gutted though as love weddings!

All my kicks are still low was going to ask midwife this week when they should have turned by so will let you know what she says!

mummytobejuly2014 · 20/04/2014 22:14

liquid - whats the bump brace like? I find myself holding the bottom of my bump upto sort of take some of the weight when im walking about. cant remember the last time id a full night sleep due to this hip/pelvis/pubic pain. mw wont do anything & says I have to see gp, phoned early last week for an appointment& first available is 1st of may (complete joke). lots of baby movements today due to eating a whole galaxy easter egg :) poor baby doesn't know whats hit it. woke up this morn & had no movements for a good hour, scared me a bit so had an icy pint of water to get some peace of mind.

we got 2 of the asda baby event travel cots at £20, one for us & one for other parents house. previously got 6 tommee tippee closer to nature bottles for £10 from asda with the view that if breastfeeding doesnt work then we have them/or for decanting expressed milk once supply is established/later when I have to return to work. got the steriliser also with intention of being able to sterilise the avent manual pump I got from boots on offer for £12. been buying something each month to spread the cost as my work only pays 5wks wages at 90% then its standard mat pay for the 30odd weeks.
glad everyones having a nice easter :)

mummytobejuly2014 · 20/04/2014 22:18
