flymo79 · 27/02/2014 15:15

ooh, good idea crazylady, I've been offered one by a friend and I will need to do myself a favour and get up to london to collect it!

PinaColadas · 27/02/2014 15:24

My home made pregnancy pillow (rolled up summer quilt in an old cut down, sewn up quilt cover) It starts under my bump and goes right down to my ankles. From what i've read the most important thing to have a comfortable sleep is to have your knees and hips parralell and same distance apart etc, if i've kicked it away I wake up in pain.
That being said I had a terrible night last night tossing and turning couldn't get comfy just felt really bloated, but think thats just down to getting used to having a bump!

mssleepyhead · 27/02/2014 16:43

I didn't think I had a bump but got outed by a teaching assistant and three of my classes today! I still think actually I just look like I've put a bit of weight on, but they guessed all the same... I'm 14+5.
I've also just ordered a pillow, which should come tomorrow. I've been sleeping with 3 different ones under my head, side and knee and figured it was worth just getting one to do the same job. The back/hip pain could be pelvic girdle pain. I think I'm suffering with that too and no idea what to do about it. On top of that, I twisted my knee badly the other day, standing up (thanks, pregnancy!) and it's just not really recovering. Boo!
Still. So far, second trimester is winning...

DisneyDiva87 · 27/02/2014 16:52

Hey,

I've popped in here once or twice but not ever hung about but I'd like to!

I'm due 28th August (14 weeks today) and I already have a wee bump, one person at work noticed about 3 weeks ago but never said anything they just wondered if I could be (everyone has been expecting it).

I haven't had any hip pain yet but am really keen to get a pillow and even more so now if it can help prevent/ease pain! I've been so tired lately that I haven't had any trouble sleeping (although I've been doing rehearsals and shows at the theatre for the last week).

Secretlypregnant · 27/02/2014 16:59

mssleepyhead, if it is PGP I would recommend getting a GP referral to a physic as soon as possible. They totally turned it around for me and I was in agony.

2beornot · 27/02/2014 17:02

I spoke to my midwife about PGP. She have me the number for the obstetric physio as it is self referral. Luckily it has since settled down, but I feel reassured just having the number there!!

Secretlypregnant · 27/02/2014 17:03

Hello DisneyDiva87, welcome! Is this your first?

Sleep hasn't been a problem for me yet either - I work from home and seem to be up until 1 or 2 every night at the moment!

Your job sounds exciting! What are you rehearsing? (If that won't totally out you!)

Secretlypregnant · 27/02/2014 17:05

Oh that's good, mssleepyhead. It gives me the horrors thinking it might come back!

weeza13 · 27/02/2014 18:44

Hi Disney Diva. Hope everyone had a good thursday. Nearly the weekend! its funny when people start asking if you are pregnant because no one wants to ask and get it wrong!I had quite a small bump-fairly easily hidden at 14wks but not possible now at nearly 18, bump seems to get bigger every day and be much more firm. I have just been using extra pillow between my knees at night, its comfy but seems like such a big effort when I want to roll over, guess that will just get harder as time goes by. Still waiting to feel baby move though, can't wait!

mssleepyhead · 27/02/2014 19:33

Thanks for the tips on PGP - I'm finding it so hard at the moment to know who to talk to about what: GP, midwife, hospital, EPU... It's all a bit confusing. I could do with a flow chart or something: if you have x, y or z, call these people etc.! Luckily it's eased off after a week of sitting on the sofa in the Easter hols, but I'll go to the GP if it returns this term.

Weeza - it would seem teenage girls have no worries about appearing rude if they get it wrong. All of them just quite happily asked me straight in the middle of lessons today. Could have been pretty awful but actually ended up being lovely because they were so so so so so excited. One even patted my tummy! Didn't want to disappoint her by saying that's all just abdominal fat right now and baby is hanging out by my pubic bone ; )

DisneyDiva87 · 27/02/2014 19:53

Unfortunately, it's not my job Secretly it's just a hobby. I'm part of an amateur theatrics group but after the last 2 weeks I want to run away to the West end and be a show girl but not THAT kind of show girl Wink

Yes, this is my first and still can't quite believe it's really happening!

FriendofDorothy · 27/02/2014 21:50

If you have any symptoms of PGP or SPD it is well worth looking at The Pelvic Partnership website. They offer loads of suggestions which could help mimimise the strain on your pelvis and reduce the pain.

Secretlypregnant · 27/02/2014 22:03

I second that, FriendofDorothy - it also gives you valuable information about the symptoms in case you are met with a GP who insists it's sciatica when you know it's not.

travispickles · 28/02/2014 04:36

Well, touch wood I haven't had pgp yet but it sounds bad. Sympathy to those struggling with it! My pet hate is restless legs- I had it terribly last time. Also insomnia ( it is 4.30am now!)

Mitchell81 · 28/02/2014 06:55

Welcome Disney, we are due the same day. Congratulations on your pregnancy.

Secretlypregnant · 28/02/2014 08:28

Now I am just going to picture you in spangles with feathers in your hair, DisneyDiva!

With my first I don't think I really believed I was going to have a baby until she was in my arms.

Actually I don't really believe it this time either!

flymo79 · 28/02/2014 13:37

Hey ladies, can I ask you about baby massage? Has anyone done a course? did you find it useful? I've done a bit with my friend and her little girl, she loved it, but didn't know if it was worth doing a short course (assuming I can find one locally!!)

lucyfluff · 28/02/2014 13:48

I did baby massage last time and would reccomend it! It was a free six week course and each week we would focus on an area of bubs body say upper tummy and arms then add bits the following week until whole body was complete.

It was really sweet singing nursery rhymes and it helpes settle my little man before bedtime routine Smile

Secretlypregnant · 28/02/2014 14:01

Yes, it was a nice thing to do and I will probably do it again with the new baby if I can. It's free, gets you out of the house, helps you meet new people and gives you a lovely thing to do with your baby. Smile

flymo79 · 28/02/2014 14:35

oooh - where have you found it for free? Is that through the hospital?

Secretlypregnant · 28/02/2014 14:55

No, try your local children's centre - mine organises loads of free groups, classes, playgroups, events etc. Whereabouts in the country are you?

lucyfluff · 28/02/2014 15:21

Mine was through a surestart centre...I popped name on a list of things that interested me and they put me in a group.

Your health visitor should know too Smile

flymo79 · 28/02/2014 16:39

thanks all - am in sussex

Secretlypregnant · 28/02/2014 17:13

Flymo, have a look here for west Sussex or here for east Sussex or here for Brighton and Hove depending on which area you are in - hopefully it'll come up with something in your local area.

sillymeagain · 28/02/2014 19:14

Oooh flymo...I'm in sussex too!
