Totally get what you mean broody. At this stage it sounds like she's got so much going on, so I think you're being kinder by holding off xx

whiteblossom · 27/01/2014 19:14

bex would it be worth emailing the news. It might be hard for them to be up beat and happy for you which will make them feel like selfish buggers, while the email gives them the opportunity to get their heads round it and send an emailed response (no forced happiness)

Let them know they are the first to know and you wont be letting others know until xx. As you say they wont be bombarded with the baby talk.

I know when I wanted a baby dh had to actually hold off telling me who was pregnant and at one point I refused to go on a night out with someone who was pregnant. Once the hormones kick in, its a difficult place to be.

Just my thoughts Blush

Carly6971 · 27/01/2014 19:23

bex it took us over 6 years and lots of fertility treatment before we got our surprise miracle bean, so speaking from my experience I used to greatly appreciate people telling me quietly on my own before it was common knowledge as it was so hard to be happy as your eyes stung with tears and you just want to lock yourself away and grieve. (I know this sounds terribly dramatic but that is how it feels)! It is also awful to know you make others feel guilty for being pregnant when you really don't mean to or want to. I think it would be extremely kind to tell them first and it's really thoughtful of you for thinking of them - gosh I am a blubbering wreck writing this, that pain is still so raw. Infertility is definitely up there with one of the cruelest things in the world x

BexBoo12 · 27/01/2014 20:02

Whiteblossom And Carly thank you so much for your advice. I think this has made my mind up to definitely tell them. At least if I tell them this week, they've got a few weeks to 'come to terms with it' before the news goes viral as they say. Thank you ladies xxx

LH1981 · 27/01/2014 20:08

Like the others said, I think it's just about tact. It took us 5 years to have our first, and at one point it seemed like everyone at work was getting pregnant and I found it really tough. But, it's easy to see when someone is genuinely concerned for your feelings and so no matter how you tell them, so long as it's with love, they'll be happy for you, even if they're sad for themselves.

I've not told many people, but I did tell my next door neighbour, as we're close and she recently had a miscarriage so I didn't want her to hear it from someone else, or just 'notice' it with my bloated tummy. She was lovely about it and very supportive, although I could tell she was sad for her own loss.

Just don't let it take away from your own excitement - you deserve to be excited and happy about being pregnant!

On the food topic, my taste has shifted dramatically from salty/spicy food to fruit. Tried dragon fruit for the first time today - yum!
That went with the mango, the apple and the orange I devoured too!

cookielove · 27/01/2014 20:13

Hello all, spoke to the dr today. Basically they gonna refer me for an early scan which is a relief!

ThisIsMeNow · 27/01/2014 20:19

Have been sick as a dog the last week. Throwing up, dizzy, can't seem to do anything.
Went to tesco today and in desperation bought sea sickness armbands and I've only worn them for the last couple of hours but I've noticed a difference! I don't care if it's psychosomatic or whatever it is, if I'm not being sick that's enough for me!!

BexBoo12 · 27/01/2014 20:22

Thanks LH, like you said, I'm trying not to feel 'bad' about it, as sadly I can't change anything for her regardless of my pregnancy. I was just made to feel very guilty about my timing by another family member so I guess I just needed some reassurance that telling her was the right thing to do. I also didn't want her to find out from someone else x

Cookie, good news about your scan - but not good news if it's because you've been having problems Sad have you had concerns that have led to early scan? Hope everything is ok Smile I have an early scan on Wednesday- purely to clear up the uncertainty about my dates x

TwosaCrowd · 27/01/2014 20:23

some reason this has dropped off my 'threads I'm on' list so just re marking place. Far too busy to keep up with! Going to book in with the midwife tomorrow, left a message for them to call me back today. Taking DS swimming tomorrow for the first time in ages.

BexBoo12 · 27/01/2014 20:24

Good find thisisme, I've felt terrible the last couple of days, just nausea though, no actual sickness. I actually feel like I'm coming down with something today, sore throat, cold, achy, head ache, sick feeling etc.

topmammy · 27/01/2014 21:04

That's how I feel Bex. Have you had a flu jab? I'm hoping it's just a cold I've got Confused

cookielove · 27/01/2014 22:06

bex I had miscarried last September, and the baby had genetic problems and we've had genetic testing done on us!

xxmissbrightsidexx · 27/01/2014 22:13

Hiya girls Brew we all okay?
I'm so nervous about tomorrow, just want to cry my eyes out [again], arhh :(( My gut is preparing me for bad news.
Not hungry neither all im managing is toast atm, feel so sick :((

BexBoo12 · 27/01/2014 22:18

No topmammy no flu jab, should I ask midwife for one? Feel so crappy Sad

Oh cookie I hope everything is ok for you xx

JustMarriedBecca · 27/01/2014 22:47

My nausea isn't so bad during the day anymore although I feel pretty dire and bloated after I've eaten in the evening. I just CANNOT stop crying. I cried yesterday because I forgot dishwasher tablets in Waitrose (I was at the till and couldn't be bothered to get them) then again when I got home and told DH. I was meant to walk and get some yesterday evening but was so tired I cried that I couldn't be bothered. Then today, I cried on my way home because I forgot them again. Even typing this is making me a bit teary.

Can someone please send me dishwasher tablets?

My Dad rang me tonight to see why I was upsetting my Mum and/or was I annoyed with them? We haven't told them as we've not seen them in person yet and I usually speak to her most days on the phone and have been avoiding her so don't just blurt it out. Cried a bit then too and just said work was crap and would see them this weekend. Looking forward to telling them.

Bex- I would definitely say something but over the phone, not by email. Try and catch her when you know she's at home. People read emails on the go and you'd not want her to read it as she was waiting at the dry cleaners or wotnot.

cookielove · 28/01/2014 07:56

How can water make me feel so sick. I am so thirsty!

ThisIsMeNow · 28/01/2014 08:26

Good luck today missbright!
Cookie- waters the only thing I can drink!
Well I've still got the sea sick bands on. They feel like when you've got a bad head and have taken painkillers- you know the headaches still there but you can't feel it as much?
Off to midwife today, get the ball rolling.

isitme1 · 28/01/2014 08:31

Good luck to those at appointments today.
I snapped at dh for no reason this morning. He knows tomorrow is getting to me...

x

xxmissbrightsidexx · 28/01/2014 08:49

Thanks ThisIsMeNow I don't think it's possible to feel more anxious than I do now,I feel sick [don't know if it's through nerves or pregnancy], shaking, hearts racing, and need a wee. I'm so scared xx

sittingpretty25 · 28/01/2014 09:06

Thisisme - iv not taken my bands off at all in the past week! I daren't. They are really helping and when I get a bad wave I just press the points. So far no vom but a few very public close calls (ie Sunday might trapped in a huge table around 30 friends...the culprit onion chutney and rocket. Makes my mouth sweat just thinking about it urg.)

Happy scan day to all who are going - still waiting for my appt to come through.

Weird symptom to report today is pain in my rib cage (which could be me needing a bigger bra/ all my clothes - it's sad knowing I'm prob not going to be in my nice clothes for at least a year) and....shockingly ... Tiny stretch marks!!! Nooooo!!! Iv ordered some bio oil. My DH and mum are both telling me i must be having twins to get a dark tum line and stretch marks before 8 weeks. Confused

cavamonster · 28/01/2014 09:06

I too have my scan this afternoon missbrightside and agree don't know whether the sick feeling is nerves or ms!

The waiting is horrible, feel like I just want to curl up under the covers until 4pm instead of having to do a days work and pretend I am remotely interested in other things!

In my previous two pregnancies we've never seen a heartbeat so I suppose i just presume the worst for todayHmmpray to god third time lucky for us.

isitme1 · 28/01/2014 09:34

Good luck cava and everyone else! !

rockin I no longer have symptoms really either. On a few occasions ive forgot I was pg ....
Sitting I had that feeling too!!! Its horrible. I think its time for a new bra but finding a decent bra in my size isnt the easiest!

Last time I got it from mothercare (after trekking to town to newlooks maternity bit) and I picked some bras up that had gone dow to 2 something! So I thought I will pick a few more up for that price. I couldn't remember what sizei picked up so I asked the cashier and she shouted size out. A guy walked passed absolutely astonished lmao!!
