tiredallthetime in my local scan unit they do an internal before 12 weeks and an external scan after 12 weeks.
so in my pregnancy with DD when i went for my 12 week scan i had the usual gel on the tummy and scan on the tummy
but when i was pg last year and was bleeding at 9 weeks they did the scan internally
but i guess that might just be local policy. the reason they told me they did that is that its easier to get a clearer view with an internal scan so in early pregnancy that's what they tend to do.
i would mentally prepare yourself for it just in case!

whiteblossom · 24/01/2014 10:31

Morning all,

Bex I too feel like I need tummy support. Its just so bloated and hard, I normally sleep on my front but I just cant get comfy.

My poor ds woke in the night screaming, he'd had a nightmare. So he climbed in bed with us, I was worried he would knee me in the tummy but in the end he got back in his own bed- we all like our own space in bed in this house Grin

welcome katharine waves

isitme sorry to hear your little one is unwell xx

Im still feeling very sick, Ive accepted that Im going to feel like this until at least 12 weeks, I just pray that it stop then because Im feeling rather trapped in my house and I want to exercise I feel fat, untones sloppy mess Grin

Has anyone weighed themselves, I was dreading it but bite the bullet this morning, though it was after a bowl of cereal so pinch of salt with result. I gained 2.75lbs. I had a look online what a normal wight gain is in the first T, as it was 4lbs. I know some on that is on the boobies and belly.

Im desperate to go walking, swimming anything!

I haven't told my family yet and mum is making demands on my time and I don't know how to handle it with out shouting 'for gods sake leave me alone' She would def' take the hump with that!! Ive tried to steer her away but she is having none of it. help.

sebsmummy1 · 24/01/2014 10:31

Argh just got light brown discharge on a pad again. It stopped on Monday and now I've got some more. Just when I'd started to feel more confident again Sad

ksrwr · 24/01/2014 11:12

sebsmummy1, everywhere i read about spotting during pregnancy is brown is ok as its old blood, read is more of a worry.
do you have an early pregnancy unit near you?

ksrwr · 24/01/2014 11:12

red not read

sebsmummy1 · 24/01/2014 11:33

Yeah I have, no idea if they do walk in clinics though.

You know it's funny but I don't necessarily want to see a heart beat at this stage as I don't want to bond with the baby as I'm not sure this pregnancy is going to stick. I have heard of a few people who have had early scans then lost the baby anyway and it's been a lot harder for them.

I've put a big pad on just incase it develops into something else. All I can do is wait and hope again.

xxmissbrightsidexx · 24/01/2014 11:39

Good luck tired honey, will be thinking of you x
Welcome katharine xx

I've got mw appointment today at 1.30pm, incredibly anxious right now, and praying she books an early scan for me. So scared that somethings wrong xx

isitme1 · 24/01/2014 11:40

Sebs I would ring them and ask.
Everyones situation is different and every pregnancy is. Please dont lose hope x

tiredallthetime123 · 24/01/2014 11:45

Thank you for your nice words ladies. Will deffo tell them no big screen action and prepare myself for someone prodding around in my privates- yuk. No one has mentioned drinking 2 pints at water- do I have to do that? How long before? You'd think they might say??!! Good luck Sebs xxx

ksrwr · 24/01/2014 12:09

if you have an external scan you need a totally full bladder. if you have an internal scan you need a totally empty bladder. play it safe, turn up bursting for the loo!

cookielove · 24/01/2014 12:23

Well if you haven't been asked to drink 2 pints i would have thought it would be internal, however they don't really poke about in there, I'm quite squeamish and it felt fine for me!

Mummyinpink1289 · 24/01/2014 12:35

thinking of you sebs, im sure that everything will be ok as brown discharge is normally safe to have throughout pregnancy so dont get too worried at this stage just keep monitoring it to make sure it doesnt get worse.

My midwife hasnt told me to drink 2 pints of water for my 12 wk scan and they never did before either in my other 2 pregnancies - i think they forget sometimes so i doubt that means your scan will be internal but i didnt actually think we did internal scans in this country - i assumed that was an american thing?! so its all new to me.

So were going to tell our mums on sunday i think - so much for holding out for the scan which is still over 4 weeks away! ha. Any cool ideas you have to help me figure out how to tell them?! wanted to get my youngest DD a tshirt saying im going to be a big sister but dont have time now and cant (typically) find any on next website when for the last 3 years they have always had at least one of them tshirts for sale. il have a look in tesco tonigt but doubt theyl have any in there either.

CaseyRossi · 24/01/2014 12:51

Hi All

Just found this thread :) I'm due Sept 13th so that puts me at 6+5 today with our first, not been preg before so all new to me, not quite sure what i expected but this isn't easy, and my boobs now feature double boob action in the bra department and my nipple keeps making a break for freedom, quite unwelcome and they absolutely kill!! though when the nausea and uterus aching dies down and i don't feel pregnant i just have to brush one with my upper arm and that reminds me i'm still pregnant. Created a nausea sickess scale for hubby to understand and when to leave me alone to lie down, with 10 being head down the toilet, never got past an 7 yet does it get worse from 8 weeks as i've heard?

Also i feel quite ashamed but i've had to buy some maternity trousers for work as i'm so bloated normal clothes were just making me feel worse and uncomfortable, Christmas didn't help i'm hovering about 5lbs heavier than i used to be. Please reassure me i'm not the only one.

We've not told a single sole yet (doctors excluded) we've been married for over 3 years so the speculation ended some time ago so we're free to live as normal but i feel mean sat next to my mom knowing she's going to a nanny for the first time and not telling her. Reading some peoples posts they've told loads of people maybe i should just bite the bullet and break the news so close people just wanted to have that picture to break the news but with another 5 weeks today till scan day seems so far away :(

sebsmummy1 · 24/01/2014 13:03

Casey I think it can be useful to have some people who know early on but there will definitely be times when you will be glad you've kept it to yourself. Say if something went wrong and suddenly you have to untell lots of people which is pretty traumatic.

I told my Mum as I know she could handle the worst if it happens. I wouldn't tell my MIL as she would get ridiculously happy and OTT and then would be totally devastated if something went wrong.

Congratulations xxx

Mummyinpink1289 · 24/01/2014 13:15

Hi Casey, im in the same boat - my last post was about the same thing telling the nannys. I keep going to say things about the furture and the baby but then realise i cant cos my mum doesnt know yet. we too wanted to use the scan picture to tell them but our scan is a month today and just toooo far away.
So far i have told one close friend and so has my DH. We have sort of said today through texts that were gonna tell our mums as theyr both coming round for sunday dinner this weekend. I think im just going to burst into tears though as soon as we tell them cos im such an emotional wreck lately. Just googled ways other people told their parents the news and ended up in tears. i hate crying, im not really a cryer but lately jesus i cry over anything hence y i was so glad i stopped watching corry years ago as i know that would have been messy!

Firstimemum3 · 24/01/2014 14:08

tiredallthetime hope you get on well today, exciting stuff :)

I rang my mum as soon as my test went positive, we've also told quite a few people. Terrible at holding in my excitement. Do what feels right, but it's nice to share your excitement I think.

casey my edd is day after yours :) congratulations. Also my first pregnancy x

Mummyinpink1289 · 24/01/2014 14:26

Im saying my due date is the 14th but there could be a big difference to what i find out at the scan as i dont know if what i thought was my first AF after coil was actually an AF or not. Cant wait to find out the wait is killing me!

This is the longest ive ever held out Firsttimemum - last 2 pregnancies we told everyone bar my work by the 7 week mark as it never occured to me anything bad would happen - both were suprise and very shock pregnancies but this time it was a planned pregnancy so not sure if thats making me more nervous to tell people...

rockin20s · 24/01/2014 15:01

just got my blood results back from the doctors my HCG levels as of last monday (5w4d) was 13600 which is prefect! woohoo

I never knew my blood group before now so she checked for that and it turns out I'm rhesus negative so I am currently goggling like crazy about this. think it just means a few extra injections for me and a closer watch on the baby for signs of anemia. looks like a homebirth will be not allowed now :-(

OP posts:
Mummyinpink1289 · 24/01/2014 15:07

good news on the HCG levels rockin :-)

not so good on the blood group and i only say that because you mentioned extra injections which i am pertified of! dreading having them blood tests all over again Sad

rockin20s · 24/01/2014 15:10

ah not too bothered about the injections and blood tests really, dont like looking at the needles but otherwise im fine

OP posts:
bugoven · 24/01/2014 15:27

rockin I'm O- too and have been told that I will need and anti-D injection as standard at 28 weeks and if I experience and bleeding as precaution after 12 weeks. My friend is also negative blood type and she has had two home births. I don't think there is any risk involved if the injection is done. Maybe wrong though!!

rockin20s · 24/01/2014 15:28

cool thanks, just asked my friend who is also pregnant and she is also r-neg, strange i thought this was very rare!

OP posts:
broodylicious · 24/01/2014 15:29

rockin I'm the same blood group. Yep it just means you have to have an extra jab a few weeks before the birth and another a few hours afterwards. It's because - I think - our dc are probably not going to be the same blood group and if we bump the bump or bleed internally during labour, our antibodies will see baby as a foreign body and start to attack him/her. They jab in the thigh/butt as the needle is mahussive!!

bugoven · 24/01/2014 15:32

Thankfully my butt and thighs are mahoosive so hopefully the needle will seem smaller - that's how it works right?

xxmissbrightsidexx · 24/01/2014 15:34

Have had such a shitty afternoon I've spent most of it in tears.
Due date is 17th September, I've got a scan at the EPAU on Tuesday at 10.20am, praying to god that everything's okay :(
