Didn't see one started, as our last thread looks full. Let's hope we are all kicking the early pregnancy sickness and starting to glow :)

Thanks for the push chair tips, think we're going to find a store to pop to tomorrow to get some ideas. The Mama and Papa Zoom looks very good value.

Plateofcrumbs · 22/02/2014 17:26

Haha homeIs my cat also likes to join in a bit of Pilates! She particular enjoys sitting underneath me when I'm in cat pose, she must appreciate the feline connection!

BlueC2 · 22/02/2014 19:49

speaking of 'mossy' moments and cats reminds me of my labour with DS. After 2 days of on off contractions, then a trip to hospital where they said baby was only just engaged and I wasn't dilated at all so sent me home-the next morning I randomly woke up and announced I was going to be a cat! I remember my cousin's cats finding somewhere dark and secluded and just quietly nesting in and getting on with having their kittens so that's what I did - I made a 'nest' in my bed with lots of cushions pillows and my duvet and just quietly breathed through my contractions in the dark- I then progressed to leaning over the footstool and a pile of cushions in the lounge (also in the dark). I did go into hospital later but I'd not read any of the hypnobirth stuff so really surprised myself with the cat instinct thing which kept me v calm!

kim222 · 22/02/2014 20:47

All went well with the scan! Placenta at the front so maybe why I'm not feeling as could see the little baby wriggling on the screen and couldn't feel a thing! Baby has really long legs just like my lg, not from me as only 5ft2 and I'm short of breathe all the time too! Good news is looks like lips in tact so no cleft lip (my chances doubled apprantly with already having one cleft baby) will find out about palate hopefully at 20 week scan.

Not going to find out what we're having but think boy, am quite big already!

I've just bought out n about double, really wanted bugaboo donkey but just couldn't justify the cost. Those of you looking for single travel systems, cannot recommend the uppababy vista enough! Love my pram! Shopping space in the basket is amazing, so is sun shade, very easy to steer.

If anyone's looking at changing bags I have the pacapod and love this so much!

AuntieMaggie · 22/02/2014 22:05

kim at my 20 week scan they said they can't check for cleft palate as its inside the mouth

I'm thinking darkness may be good for labour - I certainly cope better with pain in the dark.

All this baby stuff is confusing... do I bother with extra antenatal classes on top of the nhs ones? Hypnobirthing? Yoga? How the bloody hell do I choose a buggy? And so on...

mummytobejuly2014 · 22/02/2014 22:09

can I ask how long your 20wk appointments were?

elliejjtiny · 22/02/2014 22:42

ismarah so glad your results were good.

kim good news on the cleft lip front. I'm really nervous about that too, and then feel guilty as it feels somehow mean to DS4 to worry about having another baby like him. It's mainly to do with the feeding though, I couldn't breastfeed DS4 when I really wanted to and weaning has been a nightmare as everything just comes straight out of his mouth.

Maggie sometimes they can see a cleft palate and sometimes they can't. They spotted DS4's at about 30 weeks but his is quite severe and they were looking for one as they already knew he had a cleft lip.

Zing sending sympathy your way. It's hard being pregnant when you have other children too, less time to focus on your needs. I'm finding the forgetfulness really hard this time, I'm paranoid that I'll forget something really important. Mostly I've been doing things twice because I'm worried I'll forget and the school cook keeps ringing me saying I've overpaid for school dinners. She is always very nice about it and says she much prefers it this way than the parents who don't pay and she has to nag them every week.

Been to the baby show today, really good although so much choice and I could have so easily spent £100's. I was quite restrained though and even DH said I spent less than he thought I would.

Came home to find my letter for the consultant appointment on the 4th March, the appointment I should have had with my dating scan. I haven't got the consultant I asked for who is a vbac specialist. I really hope this one is understanding, I'm taking DH with me for moral support. Still nothing about a 20 week scan though, will chase that up on Monday.

ismarah · 22/02/2014 22:46

Auntie and others looking at pushchairs - I found bestbuggy.co.uk very helpful, particularly the comparison you can do.

We'll probably do NCT despite us wanting a ELCS as a social thing to have a network. The NHS classes we might consider but not sure - mostly for snobby reasons as they're held in the next town over. I say despite because of what we've heard about NCT and some teachers attitude towards C sections.

If you're a 'mossy' type,' or have your heart set on a drug-free VB then it would make sense to do everything you can to prepare for that, be it with hypnobirthing classes or yoga or whatever rocks your boat. In any case the antenatal yoga or pilates sessions would be good for your fitness during pregnancy so that can't be bad, mossy or not.

Maybe if you sit down, with your DH or alone, and talk about what kind of thing you picture when you think of having your bean and what you want to do afterwards things will become clearer?

We decided on C section because of my health, mostly. I decided on the Babyjogger City Elite because it has very large tyres, can take bean from birth uptil a few years old which means that although it's expensive and large, we can do things like walk around our favourite dog hike with bean and dog. We decided on NCT classes because we don't have a huge social group around us and in any case we're basically the last to have kids, which means theirs are all toddlers or in school already. We know that because of extension etc, we won't have room for a lot of baby things which means we need to be clever with things like shopping and storage.

Once you figure out what the options are and what you envision working for you, you'll be good to go. Lots of retailers and online sites will list everything and more you need for bean and then there are the reviews on places like MN and AMZ and from friends and on here. Just don't think you need everything on those lists or need it all new cause that gets over-whelming and expensive very quickly.

I hate feeling overwhelmed with options and all the things, but anything you find you desperately need or miss, you can pick up later anyway. Anything you buy and it doesn't work for you or don't need, you can sell.. Wine

LaDay · 22/02/2014 23:22

Have been having the most awful vivid terrifying memorable dreams the past few nights...so much so that I actually don't want to go to bed tonight, although know I should get to it...

They are the "waking up with heart racing"/"having to turn on light NOW"etc kind, mostly involving dying/accidents/shootings etc

Any ideas? Hints or tips on how to stop them?!

LaDay · 22/02/2014 23:23

Ps dh is out this eve which I don't think helps!!

justhayley · 23/02/2014 00:48

Haha Lemon I thought I was the only person to pack my hospital bag whilst in labour! Don't fancy doing that again though & will try & be more organised this time round.

MrsA I highly highly recommended the M&P sola, iv loved mine with DS an am sad to let it go for a double. It's super easy to turn towards parent or world, & car seat clips in just as easy. Think it's £299 and £100ish for the carrycot - although can be used from birth. It's so light - iv pushed my friends prams and wonder how the hell they do it. Can't say enough good things about the Sola to be honest.

fifi669 · 23/02/2014 00:55

DS is in my bed and grinding his teeth.... Not helping on the sleep front.

The 20 week scan was quite long for me, I'd say at least 45 minutes. She did seem very thorough though.

justhayley · 23/02/2014 01:06

Felt like total death today, had a bad night with DS and when I woke this morning had the worst headache ever. I'm not someone who ever gets headaches but have had a few since being pregnant - although nothing like this. Luckily I am at my mums for the weekend as DP is working away, she took him off me & I got back into bed and slept till 3pm!! hence why I'm awake and Mnetting at 1am really needed the rest but am irritated that I'm awake at this time. I can't take tablets and try to avoid all medication but had to give in and take paracetamol today - didn't even do that in labour lol.

Thinking of going to the baby show tomorrow. Mainly as I'm assuming there will be lots of buggies to try out? Think iv decided on my double but want to make sure I havnt missed a better one

NancyinCali · 23/02/2014 04:03

I've been solo parenting all week and am exhausted. Might go to bed soon (8pm!). DD has been ill today with a high temp so it's been challenging. Hope she sleeps ok tonight poor thing.
Hope you get some more rest tonight hayley. Which double are you looking at?

icklekid · 23/02/2014 06:24

Morning all,

I've officially given up trying to sleep past 5!

justhayley your the third person to recommend the sola to me this week! M&P have the sola2 out now so may go look at that. The other one several friends have is oyster which looks good value but mixed reviews.

kim don't suppose you want to sell your uppababy vista as thats what I'd love!

laday hope you slept better last night- no real advice but have had awful dreams in the past but not since pregnant really.

Bought some gaviscon yesterday was amazing stuff but I seem to get heart burn far to regularly so going to have to work out best times to take it to maximise effectiveness!

Nancy hope you slept well too can imagine single parenting can be very exhausting- remind me not to let dh make plans to go away alone.

Yesterday I got really upset because lady in a sandwich shop was saying how her and dp don't go out together as too much effort to get a babysitter even though her family offer. I know it's none of my business but just made me feel so sad as whilst I like the occasional girly night out its my dh who I have the best time with. :-(

Ohh bought some of those wall stickers for the nursery yesterday as had 10% off can't wait for them to arrive and then that should be finished ready to fill with useless baby stuff and hopefully some baby grows etc!

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 23/02/2014 07:34

Plate - my yoga class does that stretch too! Our teacher calls them 'fake contractions' and gets us to practice breathing through them.. As a first timer I'm a bit sceptical that the pains are anything like as bad as real contractions though...

Just been woken rather violently with horrible leg cramp in my thigh. Scared the life out of DH by yelling! Wasn't expecting that particular unpleasant symptom until third trimester :(

icklekid - we got some polar bear wall stickers for our nursery too! (The room we're using is blue and I refuse to repaint it no matter what the gender is, so thought an arctic theme could stop any comments from pink for a girl/blue for a boy types). What are yours like? I'm scared to do any actual decorating yet...

Plateofcrumbs · 23/02/2014 07:52

Yeah I suspect the real thing might be harder! But it was a good exercise for getting used to using breathing to deal with pain I thought. Must have been pretty effective as my thighs are killing me today! Grin

ZingSweetMango · 23/02/2014 08:09

mummytobe

20 week scan is longer than 12 week scan, I'd say about 30 - 40 mins.
simply because they have to do more, thorough checks of all parts.
they do the sexing of baby at the end if requested.

DS2 has tonsillitis again (this is now 6th time since Nov)
it's terrible.

and I had a bad dream that DH lent the car to someone (I hate) without asking me and just at the time I really had to rush. I completely lost it and started sobbing.
he always does this in RL, so I was very upset and angry and woke up crying.
He asked what was wrong and after I explained he apologised! Grin
he even promised he'll try to not upset me in my dream either!Grin Grin

ComeBabyCome · 23/02/2014 09:39

Good to catch up on everyone's news.
Relieved to hear others are also out if breath as I'm struggling with that too. God knows how I'm going to be at the end of pregnancy!!!!
Got 20week scan on Tuesday. Not going to find out sex.....going to be really hard but want a surprise!
We are all half way ladies!!!!

fifi669 · 23/02/2014 14:47

Anyone's hips aching? I'm finding esp the left hand side is giving up

icklekid · 23/02/2014 14:56

Oh zing that did make me laugh!

Yes to aching hips especially at night fifi

betteronholiday we've gone for monkeys in a tree as also gender neutral I like the Arctic theme idea though sounds lovely

liquidstate · 23/02/2014 15:25

I was given a forced caesarean last night by a Mexican who took my baby to sell. Fortunately it was just a dream. Not entirely sure why the man kept his sombrero on during the operation Confused

Scared the hell out of me.

Wishing happy dream vibes to everyone!

(I have gone for the skip hop treetop owl decals for the walls)

Ipsumlorem · 23/02/2014 15:28

Another one struggling with breathlessness here. Been tested and not anaemic so could be because I'm a shorty I suppose and now sporting a pretty big bump (scared to think how much bigger its gonna get!). more likely due to the amounts of cake I've eaten when not vomiting and the lack of exercise while vomiting though

You all sound so organised! I'm decluttering today and have bagged 3 bin liners of clothes for charity shop and bin so far Blush Going to put all the clothes I've no hope of fitting into for a long time into vacuum bags so that I can more easily see what I've got that fits/what needs washed etc. Smile

May start moving stuff out of baby's room afterwards - having said that I'm pretty puffed already and having to sit down a lot for breaks!! Must be time for tea and more cake surely Wink

LaDay · 23/02/2014 15:51

Glad it's not just me! Last night was better, I was pushing the pram along a seafront somewhere, enjoying it, when realised it was an endless stretch of path with no end...not in a bad way, just really looooong...good parenting metaphor perhaps!!!

Loving the stickers chat, can't wait till our house is habitable and I can get to the decorating...but boo to aches and pains...get well soon, ladies!

AuntieMaggie · 23/02/2014 16:05

Thanks for all the advice ismarah

mummy my 20 week scan was about 15 mins - quicker than my 12 week scan as baby was in a goid position to check everything easily.
