Didn't see one started, as our last thread looks full. Let's hope we are all kicking the early pregnancy sickness and starting to glow :)

SPD is horrible Wink I HIGHLY recommend acupuncture, I had it with DS and after 1 session it had gone & never returned. I was always sceptical about it, by my old boss booked me a load of sessions as my present & honestly it's incredible. Just make sure you get a therapist trained for pregnancy. I would also say go to a proper Chinese place rather than an English lady who's done a 6 hour course & is now a practitioner.
For anyone in London I went to Herbal Inn in Finchley central - 2 min walk from the station. I don't live anywhere near there now but may do a London day trip and go back to the same place.

I may go to the baby show next week - probably the Friday. Mainly want to go to try out a zillion double buggies. Think iv decided on the baby jogger city gt mini double, but shows always have newer ones & discounts :)

Everyone sounds so organised, as all iv bought is one white babygrow.
My DS was premature & weighed 5lbs so no clothes fitted him. Family went out & got emergency teeny baby & Prem clothes while in hospItal and they were still big.
Newborn size is fine on most babies at least for the 1st 2 weeks. I'd pack newborn in hospital bag but have more 0-3 stuff at home.

I'm ok flood wise, except it's kept DP away Hmm he's Army & is helping out with the relief / sandbags etc so couldn't come home this week which sucks. We'l have a belated valentines next week.

justhayley · 15/02/2014 23:48

Oh and havnt felt any kicks yet boooooo. Felt the odd flutter I think but nothing proper. With DS I was 21 weeks when I felt a kick.
I also had an anterior placenta so didn't feel much at any point Hmm

fifi669 · 16/02/2014 09:13

Good to see happy scan news, still counting down to mine.... 5 days...

I haven't bought anything yet but I'm itching to. A lot of stuff can be passed down from DS or my brothers children. I just want to buy something that's just theirs IYSWIM

AuntieMaggie · 16/02/2014 10:46

So going through my spreadsheet I have some questions:

Do I neex a mattress protector for crib/moses basket?

Do you use sleeping bags/swaddling blankets straight away? Or just sleepsuits and blankets?

I'm splitting stuff between what I need in the first month or two and what I can get later

Plateofcrumbs · 16/02/2014 12:31

Whereabouts do people feel kicks/movement? I did wonder if I felt a kick yesterday - a little 'blip' feeling followed by another one in the same place. But it was really low down, 2-3 inches below my belly-button. Am only 18 weeks tomorrow so is a bit early anyway.

Horrendously moody again today. Basically I need food or else I'm a monster. I'm quite bad at the best of times for sugar-low moods but pregnancy is bringing out a whole new level of stroppiness.

icklekid · 16/02/2014 13:45

auntie my friend is lending me a matress protector for moses basket wouldn't have even thought about it otherwise. Will see how much it is used before buying one for cot. I've read sleep bags are not recommended for newborns but there may be special ones? I was thinking sleep suit and blanket at first then move to sleep bags but will buy later.

plate I am exactly the same if hungry very stroppy- always the case but I'm worse when pregnant as hungry more!

icklekid · 16/02/2014 13:47

Looks like you can get newborn ones but still don't think I will www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/sp+elephant-print-newborn-sleeping-bags-in-baby-sleeping-bags+b1500?gclid=CLLdnpvk0LwCFQKWtAodBH8ApQ

ellentullo · 16/02/2014 14:15

plate - lower belly "blips" sound promising!

The movements I have felt have been pelvic rather than higher up and usually on one side. Then other days the flutters/blips/pops swap to the other side so I think the baby is switching round. At first I could only feel them when I was totally still, but now they happen when I am on the move too.

coco808 · 16/02/2014 16:07

I think I felt a couple of kicks while DH was playing the guitar to the bump! Smile

Ouch liquid sounds very painful...you poor thing!

Right...I have three questions for all you wise ones out there

  1. do I need to buy any bottles even though I am planning to breast feed? I am worried about the baby going hungry if feeding is not established or any other prob??
  1. can you change the fabric on any push chairs? for example if I buy a pink one and the go on to have a boy later, can I change the fabric to blue?
  1. has anyone got the iCandy pushchair? I've been on Which? website and it seems to meet my requirements. (planning on having number two soon-ish after number one Grin)...so she says before experiencing what its going to be like!!!!
NancyinCali · 16/02/2014 16:12

My movements have all been pretty low down too (17 weeks) and mainly on the left. I don't know why I have such a massive bump if she's hanging out all the way down there Wink.

NancyinCali · 16/02/2014 16:18

coco aw so cute he was playing guitar to your bump Smile

In answer to your questions

  1. bottles: we didn't get any until we bought a pump after dd was born and even then we hardly used them. If you have easy access to shops that are open all hours like 24 hour tesco then I would wait. But others may have different experiences.
  2. changing pushchair covers: no idea! Any chance of buying a neutral one in the first place? We can't talk: we bought a lightweight one about 6 months ago that was bright magenta. Good job we're having another dd Wink.
  3. no don't have that one. If you want something that can easily become a double i've heard good things about the Britax b-ready (might have different name in uk). Wish we'd got that one instead of the single first time around and considering it now.
dramajustfollowsme · 16/02/2014 17:31

I ended up bottle feeding after 8 unsuccessful days with no milk coming in. Sad
We had no bottles but I sent dh to Tesco and hey presto we were fully stocked up! I'm not buying before the birth again in the hope that I don't have a traumatic birth that stunted milk production.
Don't think you can change covers all that easily. Id get a dark neutral cover as my lightweight pushchair looks really grubby in lime green. It is clean but has lots of marks on it that won't come off.
I don't have a clue about I-candy but wish we had thought in advance when buying our pushchair. One thing I would check, if you are planning on using the carseat on the buggy. (This was very useful for us moving a sleeping baby around) how easy does it attach to the buggy frame. Mine was fine, mama's and papa's zoom and m&p car seat. My friend's was a total nightmare and we would often be waiting whilst she was cursing it! Grin
I'd get a mattress protector if you are buying a cotbed. I am very glad we got one now that we are potty training!
We have the dilemma of whether we buy a double buggy or hope that dd will walk/go on a buggy board. She will be 3 but does still like a seat most of the time. I hope to walk a lot after the baby is here to lose the baby weight so can't decide. I think it will be needed for such a short time it probably won't be needed.

coco808 · 16/02/2014 20:29

thank you very much nancy and drama
i'm not sure whether to buy iCandy or uppababy vista now.
I'll wait for some enlightenment Wink
planning to buy a second hand one on ebay so should start searching soon

LaDay · 16/02/2014 20:52

Hello all, good to hear things are moving, this thread has lots of stuff going on, doesn't it!

Aok here except having to drive to Plymouth from Hants twice this week (don't ask!) and thus storm bashing twice...so so so not fun. Consoling myself that I have a fortnight left, then a weeks hols, then only a month till we move. Thank god.

DS has peadiatric cardio appt for 28/2, hope it is the news we need.

Those who were asking re kit,

SLeeping bags- with DS we used from when he was 10 pounds (not till 4 months as he was a wee one) as advised by jojomaman when I called them to ask...mainly due to risk of him slipping down into one...

Buggies we have an icandy apple jogger (three wheel off road jobby) and it was super awesome. Would highly highly recommend. Easy to use with maxi cosi car seat, good space underneath, mud and buggy fit friendly, etc etc. also good for double stacking if you need apparently (though haven't tried personally). Add puncture slime in the wheels if you're doing a lot of offloading as a precaution (local bike shop did this for us) but otherwise it hoses down well and still looks pretty good for next arrival.

Re spreadsheets for first ) months clothes...echo the gifts thing, people were astonishingly generous to us when DS was born, we bought 5 H&M vests and 5 baby grows in newborn and that was plenty...! Then multipack vest/onesies from sainsburys were great!

Just breaking into maternity clothes for the first time this weekend...my stepmum said my bump was
"neat" today :-))))

Loving being pregnant rather than fat at last!

FoxtrotOscarBackToEconomy · 16/02/2014 20:58

Coco:

  1. No you don't need to buy bottles but worth checking with your DH what bottles, steriliser and formula (start with ready made if it's emergency due to BF problems) you would get and where to buy so he can be sent to get them if and when needed.
  1. My pushchairs don't have changeable fabrics but some more expensive ones do.
  1. I don't have an iCandy. It's worth doing a search on MN threads to see what people say about iCandies and travel systems, not just the reviews. Don't forget everyone has different requirements depending on their lifestyles.
ZingSweetApple · 16/02/2014 21:52

Maggie

I like using flannel sheets as blankets in warm weather, nappy & sleeveless popper vest, if really hot then nothing but a nappy!

swaddle blankets - you can use them straightaway, but again if weather's too hot baby will not tolerate it.

I think it's difficult to buy for summer newborns - DS1 (born July 2001)was in longsleeve sleep suits as it wasn't too warm, DS2 was just in nappies for weeks as it was a crazy hot July/August, record heat! (born July 2003)

and you just don't know what size they will need, so best to get just a few of everything, you can always mail order the next day for more stuff!
(I sent my BIL to get stuff!)

which is why bundle of baby clothes off Ebay are worth it - they are in v good condition generally at a fraction of the price - you can save a lot and spend it later on some nice stuff when you know what size/garment you need!

LaDay · 16/02/2014 22:07

I really wish mumsnet had a "like" button as you lot seem to have good sensible advice on things!
X to all in the hope of a good nights sleep...

mummytobejuly2014 · 16/02/2014 23:33

Barely any movement out of baby all day today and all day yday but little bugger making itself known now having a little swim/kick about when im trying to get over to sleep to be up at 5am for work. Also did the same last night. Hoping this is not a sign of what to expect in july, hoping we dont have a night owl on our hands lol!

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 17/02/2014 08:21

Thanks for all the tips. Sorry about the SPD, Liquid, a couple of mates had that in pregnancy and it sucked. One of my main pregnancy fears!

So if you shouldn't use sleeping bags for newborns, what should you use instead?

Plateofcrumbs · 17/02/2014 08:29

I am leaving the buggy/travel system research to DH. It's the one bit of baby prep he is excited about. I suspect I will live to regret this as he's bound to choose some kind of totally impractical "monster truck" style thing. On the plus side he's a bit of a spendthrift so at least it'll be a top-of-the-range monster truck.

Mrsc020987 · 17/02/2014 09:30

From our ante natal with dd the midwives told us to use cable knit blankets, those are what they use in the hospital and something about best for temperature regulation?? I used them but layers as it was January but only a few needed this time round!

icklekid · 17/02/2014 11:50

plate know exactly what you mean about DH wanting a monster truck style- my DH wants either 3 wheels or big wheels, preferably both...I have suggested we go and try a few out first to see how they feel!

I have seen cellular blankets recommended which I guess is for the same reason as cable knit blankets? Having done a bit of googling it looks like as long as baby head can't slip through sleeping bag would be fine but often from birth they light the closeness of blankets although if its very warm doubt that would work so well!

My friend has offered a breast pump and little bottles which I will probably have in and use bottles if any problems with breast feeding at first. I know I am more likely to give up if I have formula etc in so going to try and not do that if I can...

AhoyMcCoy · 17/02/2014 13:45

Hi all! 20 week scan today and everything was perfect. Not posted much on here because I was so sure something would go wrong, but think it's probably time to face reality!

Haven't bought anything at all yet- house is going on the market next week, and when it sells we will be moving into a rented place for a while, so not even sure where we will be living when baby comes!

Guess it's time to start looking at all the things I need to buy!!

ZingSweetApple · 17/02/2014 16:33

I don't like to use cellular or any knitted type blankets as mine seem to always get their fingers stuck in the holes!Confused

I have 1 tog sleeping bags (grobag) which are the summer weight, but for very newborns I do love swaddle blankets best.

And just a little update also to say that we have a buyer for our house! yay!Smile

mummytobejuly2014 · 17/02/2014 16:55

Congrats zing & fab news ahoy.
