MarlenaGru · 17/01/2014 07:34

sareva I sleep through thunder, burglar alarms etc but never once slept more than a second after the first whimper from dd when she was a tiny baby! After 9 months of 3 hourly breast feeds most night wake ups are dh's problem since she was about 2 Wink

Bumblebeesmum · 17/01/2014 08:06

Bezza I am completely panicking. My toddler is 19 months old extremely active & hard work & tbh it turns out quite a bully even to older toddlers which is upsetting enough & I have no idea how I'm going to deal with him & a newborn & sleepless nights! I think everyone has a little panic about something

Liquidambar · 17/01/2014 08:16

Bezza my ds will be 4 once this baby comes. He was really hard work when he was little and pretty demanding now. There's only hope that if we did it once before we can do it again. My grandmother, who had 7 children, always told me that if they feel loved they will help with the little ones. there's hope Smile

And it's Friday! !!! I have to fo a bit of work during the weekend but really looking forward for 4pm.

Liquidambar · 17/01/2014 08:17

ah! good luck for today's scans Smile

MarlenaGru · 17/01/2014 08:25

Ah yes good luck today for the scans!
Can't wait for today to be over! Very excited for a very overdue haircut tomorrow and fitness class! My fringe has grown out completely as it has been about 8 or 10 weeks Blush

Riblet · 17/01/2014 09:07

Good luck for today's scans!

Will definitely look into the foot rest thing, think that could be a help. Could also do with raising my monitor more to eye level but there's a massive shelf in the way. Mind you, my boss is coming over later to rig up some kind of system so I don't have to lift 20kg boxes of solutions (don't ask), so maybe I'll get him to make himself useful Wink

Super, where are you seeing your midwife/planning to give birth? We're at the Women's for everything although think would have been seeing midwife at children's centre if hadn't been referred to multiples clinic. I don't know what their policy on hearing the heartbeat is as I ended up having to go for an extra scan at 16 week app, but if it is so they don't scare people if they can't find it I suppose it makes sense, although is annoying.

Interesting to hear people's thoughts on going from 1-2, especially after reading the 'three's company' discussion of the day and it's opposing thread yesterday. I always thought I'd have 3 or maybe 4 but after reading those I don't know, there were lots of good practical points that I'd never thought of. All of you ladies will be great when the time for no. 2 to arrive comes, despite the worries. Even if it's hard, you just get on with it don't you? That's what I'm telling myself about going from 0-2! Only thing is (and I know it is silly to think of this now) is that I have loved being pregnant so far and it makes me a bit sad to think that if we stick at 2, this will be the only time I get to do it. Just thought I'd do it at least twice even if only wanted 2 DCs. Anyway, I'm being stupid as I know I am blessed to be having twins but at least it is making me enjoy every minute of it!

Biffle · 17/01/2014 11:54

Suddenly feeling sick again today. Anyone else been fine and then all of a sudden felt rubbish again?

superlambanana · 17/01/2014 13:14

Me, Biffle! Had two days this week of feeling really ill again - though luckily just in the mornings so I went in late and worked through lunch. Seems to be better today and yesterday but feeling a bit nauseous still.

Riblet I'm going to the Countess as I'm over the water, and all my appts are at a children's centre (apart from scans). Unfortunately this means I have to trek to Ellesmere Port for them all which is a pain!!

My friend, who is due three days before me, has found One to One Midwives - it sounds great! It's run by the nhs and basically gives you the same midwife for everything - all your appointments (which they'll do at home if you like), 24hr contact, she's there for the scans, which then happen in a clinic rather than hospital, and is there for the birth (presumably where possible). It looks like you can get them all over the country and it's all free! I'm not sure I'm bothered enough to change now but I'll definitely look for my next DC (planning ahead!). They have a website so if anyone's interested then give them a google...

jaykay987 · 17/01/2014 14:08

Super - I looked into that when I was ttc, and it seemed they were primarily based in NW. Their service did sound amazing.

Baffle - I've felt really nauseous the past two mornings (and today it has yet to lift). It's been worse than the ms I had - which stopped three/four weeks ago. I've posted in the main forum, as I'm not sure if it's a side effect of movements. I'm not sure I can feel movements, but my gut is churning and I feel really sick. It's not a bug or a toilet related issue, it feels more like motion sickness. Horrid.

Lmf679 · 17/01/2014 14:10

Wow, I've been away for a couple of days and we're on a new thread! biffle I've had a couple of days feeling sick again, i find it's when I wait too long to eat, I need to eat little and often still.

My pregnancy hormones have been tested to the limits this week, sounds silly but my friend (who is a hairdresser) highlighted my hair and it's awful! Really stripy and much lighter than I wanted, almost white. I managed to hold it together in front of her as I didn't want to upset her but have had a few rage/crying moments. I've booked into my usual hairdresser to fix it Monday and go back to my natural colour but I may be embracing hats for the weekend!

Biffle · 17/01/2014 14:55

Glad it's not just me feeling sick (not saying I am glad everyone else is / has felt rubbish).

BEEwitched · 17/01/2014 15:09

I think I have a bit of thrush - what a pleasant thing to discuss at your first visit with your new GP.

The pharmacist handed me the package with my prescription with the words "it is to be applied at your convenience"; Blush.

I think all the embarrassing situations you have to cope with during pregnancy/childbirth harden you up for being out and about with a child!

LadyGoneGaga · 17/01/2014 15:13

You'll be fine, honestly. It IS an adjustment. You will feel that you are being torn in two some days when they both want stuff from you. But you get through it. And I just adore how much DS and DD love each other. They fight like cat and dog as well but DS has to give DD a big hug and kiss every morning before school or she is so sad for the rest of the day. It's all worth it.

And you will know what you are doing. You will look back to when you had just one baby to worry about and think, "What the F was all the fuss about?!". After all, all a small baby does is eat and sleep and stay relatively immobile. By the time they get active you will have it all down pat. One thing I did find, where we could mostly wing it with DC1, with DC2 a proper routine became fairly indispensable if we ever wanted to leave the house.

I am slightly panicking about 3 though...fear of the unknown.

Jessiebaba · 17/01/2014 15:22

Have you read the current thread about the pros of having three Lady? This is my first DC but I am the youngest of three and always imagined myself having three - reading that thread earlier, I got really emotional and all nostalgic Blush

Riblet · 17/01/2014 15:48

That does sound like a trek Super- must get to be a bit of a chore. I'm really pleased mine have been moved to the hospital as even though the children's centre is closer to home, the hospital is much closer to work so can just walk there and avoid the parking at hosp/getting back into car park at work issues. Haven't heard of One to One although at booking in my original MW did say I'd have her all the way through so maybe it was that but she didn't say the name.

Sorry to hear some of you are feeling ill. Did have to lol at your pharmacist though Bee.

Oh no Lmf, I feel for you - it's so awkward when you hate a new hairdo, must be 10x worse when it's your friend that has done it! At least it should be fixed soon.

I'm thinking of playing on the whole hormonal rage thing with my boss. A few months ago I had to do a bit of work in another dept, basically because my dept had promised they would provide someone to work on a project without actually having anyone to do it, so muggins here got that privilege. I never liked doing it but did so without complaining although boss knew I wasn't keen, and I was delighted when the dual luck of (a) boss asking me to give it to my colleague who needed some work and (b) when I told them I was pg they said I'd have to stop as a molecule I was using might not be safe, arrived at the same time - happy days. Now I've been asked (i.e. told) to go back for a bit as my colleague didn't want it and soon after left so they never had a replacement, and a new bit of work is safe for me to do. I told my boss I didn't want to and I find being there really stressful (turns out he's known for a while I'd be asked to go back but I only found out today) and I've basically been told to suck it up but it's just to train someone else because despite what I said about it, in their wisdom they never trained anyone else because obviously I'd be around all the time. The project boss in the other dept will try and milk it and get me to do loads as always but to try and placate me my boss has said it will just be 3 days and if there's any more he'll tell the other dept that's it. So, hmph- if anything else happens I'm going to have to try and unleash all the tears and hellfire I can muster - after all, he doesn't have kids and by the sounds of it doesn't know anything about pg women so it might work! Sorry for the rant!!

CleverOl10 · 17/01/2014 16:13

I'm another like you Biffle. Had about 10 days with no ms and was starting to believe it had gone but back with a vengeance today Sad

Not sure how I made it through a full day's work but heading to bed now. Hope everyone else feels better soon.

MarlenaGru · 17/01/2014 16:53

Happiness is a fire alarm at 4:45! Happy weekend everyone!

Bumblebeesmum · 17/01/2014 17:08

Riblet another (safer / saner) way to handle it might be if stressed etc go get a water or pop to loo and take 10. No one will complain even if it's 100x a day :)

hackneybird · 17/01/2014 17:40

Popping to say hi to everyone - so glad it's the weekend! I am always so tired by Fridays.

I find I still get sickness if I go too long without eating.

Relieved I'm not the only one who is also nervous about going from 1-2 children. I'm preparing myself for it to be awful for the first 6 months then hopefully we'll all come out of the other side. All my friends have had their second and have survived!

I'm going to the cinema tonight - really looking forward to not having to pick up DS and do the tea/bath/bed time struggle. I'm just going to kick back and enjoy watching a film at leisure. Nice!

Redcliff · 17/01/2014 19:57

What film did you see Hackney? Its been ages since I saw a proper grown up film in the cinema - somehow I am taking DS to see Turbo tomorrow while other half swans off to see the wolf of wall street - not sure how that happened. He is out tonight which I am really pleased about as he never goes out (I mean I am glad he is having a good time not that I don't want him here) so DS and I are getting pizza delivered and are going to watch a Dr Who - hooray!

I still feel sick in the mornings - today was terrible! Lets hope it goes soon.

Riblet · 17/01/2014 20:27

Thanks Bumble, it may well be 100 times a day, not far off now Wink Even more pissed off now as apparently I'll have to be over there two days a week now but I honestly don't think there's time to do that and my own job, so may just end up having a rational conversation with boss, not that it'll help. Anyway, apologies for the moan folks, just needed to vent.

With all the ranting I forgot to say that colleague brought in the baby clothes for us today and have just looked through them - I so hope we have at least one girl as we probably won't need to buy any clothes for a year- two big bags of lovely stuff and all good quality Grin

Sounds like a great evening Hackney, enjoy the film, and you Redcliff, sounds like a nice relaxing night in Smile

hackneybird · 17/01/2014 22:31

I went to see The Butler, more out of interest than any great desire! But I had a free ticket so thought why not. It was 'ok', I didn't love it.

Cinema is one of my main interests and I go a lot. I find it so relaxing.

Hope everyone else has a lovely weekend, I am taking my son to an adventure playground with a friend tomorrow so really hoping I can find some energy from somewhere. DH will be doing jobs around the house and cooking us a nice tea for when we get back - have a feeling I'm going to be needing some comfort food after all that.

riblet hope you're feeling better after a good vent- don't worry, it is what we are all here for.

redcliff hope you and your DS have had a nice evening, sounds lovely. When I was in my deepest darkest early pregnancy exhaustion I ordered pizza for DS and I a couple of times when I was on my own and couldn't face cooking. A treat AND a lifesaver!

Redcliff · 17/01/2014 23:08

I am a big cinema fan too - last maternity leave I went to so many patent baby screenings. I suspect I saw more films in those 7 months then I have in the 5 years since unless you count kids films.

GillyBillyWilly · 18/01/2014 08:34

Forgot to let you know how my 20 week scan went yesterday... Copying and pasting what I put in the Facebook group Smile

Scan was great although we had a "VERY wriggly baby in a VERY VERY awkward position" (sonographers words!).

She managed to measure everything except one thigh bone and the heart so she asked me to go for a walk, have a drink and come back after 20 mins.

Nothing to worry about as she could see the heart beating fine and she could see the 4 chambers and both ventricles... She just couldn't get a decent measurement due to the angle of the baby.

Anyway... My walk and drink didn't achieve much as the baby was being just as awkward when we went back although she was slightly more satisfied I suppose as she managed to get the thigh measurement and was finally happy with the heart......although she had to do an average measurement based on looking at the heart from a few different angles (all the angles except the one she wanted basically!).

Anyway... We didn't find out the gender but she said the baby was being so wriggly and awkward that she probably wouldn't have been able to tell us the gender even if we wanted her to. because the legs were curled up under its bum for 99% of the time!

She also did a transvaginal scan to check my cervix to make sure it wasn't short... Blush Apparently short cervixes can cause premature birth? Well my cervix is "lovely and long"... Which is nice ??Blush

In the end she gave us 6 scan photos and didn't charge us at all because she said she thought they were a bit crap because the baby was moving so much! But I actually think they're great photos so quite happy with that!!!
