Dunno about nipple confusion, Alex has been mixed fed since birth and will eat anything but then she is a piglet whether boob, bottle (formula), nose, cheek, finger...
No issues switching between both on a daily basis.

TarkaTheOtter · 01/02/2014 19:22

I think it really depends on the baby. My ds seems to love to feed and I imagine he would take milk anyway it was offered whereas dd was never that bothered so had frequent nursing strikes and refused a bottle. I could see how she might have nipple confusion issues.

TobyLerone · 01/02/2014 19:23

Yy loulou, what book said about visiting. DH is back to work next week, so any excuse to get out of the house! Are either of you planning on going to the NCT bumps and babes group on Tuesdays?

I tried to get Meredith to take a dummy the other day in the hope that it might help her to settle at night, but it just made her gag!

I CBA to express any time soon. All that sterilising faff is not for me. Eventually I'll probably have to, but not for now.

AnotherStitchInTime · 01/02/2014 19:44

Advice is 6 weeks, I can't be arsed to express either, but I am going to force myself to make it a regular think from next week. I made the mistake of not doing it early enough with my last two and both never took a bottle really. This time round I would like to have the option so I can go for a swim, my abs will need the exercise to recover from my classical c section scar.

Congratulations enormouse Thanks

book glad you are moving back into your room and please get the tongue tie snipped, your nipples, your choice.

Felix90 · 01/02/2014 21:58

So many posts to catch up on! Congrats enormouse and fly!!!

We had two very different answers re introducing bottles. First midwife we saw said introduce them around 2-3 weeks, before 4 weeks as any later it's very likely that baby won't take the bottle. Then the HV said don't introduce them until 6 weeks or they will get confused! I hate how there's no consistency in the advice I've been getting. We gave Sylvie a bottle from the first week and she swapped from bottle to boob very easily.

Sending support to those that need it who have troublesome dh's

I hope everyone is feeling ok.

I've been feeling out of sorts yesterday and today. Nothing specific I can put my finger on just feeling a bit apprehensive about things. Olivia is being great, still very chilled and rarely cries which is great. is now waking between 1-3 to feed and nappy change but then sleeping through till 8/9 in the morning so I really can't complain. Managed to get her to sleep in the bednest last night as well which was fab, and she spent time in the moses basket today without a fuss. So I know I'm really lucky but I still can't shake the feeling that something is going to go wrong! Does anyone else feel like this? I've had a pj day today which I planned after a few busy days but I think that may be contributing as I feel really lazy when I do that. I think I'm finding it hard to adjust my mind to the fact that my job for the time being is to look after Olivia, rather than trying to do a million and one things on top of a full time job.

Is anyone else keeping a record of feeding times/length and nappy changes? I had to do it in the hospital and have kept it up since coming home but wondering if it's necessary?

Naturegirl82 · 01/02/2014 23:44

Congratulations fly and enormouse. Hope you are all settling in well at home

Felix90 · 02/02/2014 00:07

Nature that's brilliant news about her sleeping. It makes all the difference doesn't it! We have fell in to a routine where she will wake at 1 then 3/4 and 6/7 for a feed but it doesn't take too long and she's back asleep before I know it.

I don't think it's necessary to keep a note unless there's any further concerns about her feeding/weight gain. Carry on if it gives you peace of mind though Smile

Frizz1986 · 02/02/2014 00:24

We don't keep a note of feeds nature but I remember then mentally after all the feeding issues to start with.

I actually wish I had started feeding a bottle a day early on as when we went into hospital for the jaundice she swapped between bottle and boob really well (was 1 week old) but then have probably given about 1 bottle a week since. Now she is almost 6 weeks old and you really have to force the bottle as she doesn't want it so I am not sure if she will take to it. Just need to keep trying I guess.

After my extra 2hrs sleep in this morning (thanks to Dh taking her downstairs and looking after her) and my nice energy boost, I am feeling pretty chilled about the night shift. Also got loads of fruit today as haven't been eating that well and hoping this will kick start me back to eating well and losing weight slowly (would like to be back to pre pg weight by the end of the year)

MrsVDB · 02/02/2014 07:14

Congratulations enormouse due date buddy!!

Induction day is here. After about 2 hours sleep I'm not feeling in the best frame of mind but please wish me luck with a bishops score of 3 on Friday I'm going to need it

Angelesque · 02/02/2014 07:47

Good luck MrsVDB! Sending contracty thoughts - looking forward to hearing your news!

And... Does that make me the last one still waiting now? God it's boring playing this baby waiting game! No signs yet... Five days overdue and counting... Sad

Frizz1986 · 02/02/2014 09:19

Good luck MrsV

Well my labour was fairly straightforward. After the community MW came round the contractions started to come more regularly. I managed to get to sleep and woke up around midnight in quite a bit of pain. So rang the hospital and they told me to come straight in as we were an hour away. We got there around 2 and I was about 4cm dilated. I couldn't use the birth pool so went into the bath with gas and air. Came out around 5ish ready to push and Cal arrived at 5.46 after a few pushes with his hand up waving. I did need stitches but it wasn't a big tear. The mw I had was wonderful and she stayed with me and Dp for the whole thing. I was approved for 6 hour discharge but Cal needed to be checked over by the paediatrician as he had a dimple on the base of his spine and get a tb jab. The dimple is fine, not spina bifida as I was worried it might be. we came home around 8 that night and I had a small glass of prosecco and some pizza to celebrate dps birthday.

Things are going ok. Getting back to normality a bit faster than with DS 1. Just had the midwife round and she's happy with how Cals doing.
Even though I'm pretty sore down there and my boobs feel like they've been attacked I feel more like myself again than I did in late pregnancy. Thank you ladies for reassuring me that being pregnant with a two year old was much worse than having a newborn and a toddler.

Can someone pm the link to the fb group?

Who else is waiting for babies to arrive now? We must be getting close to the last ones now Smile

Angelesque · 02/02/2014 13:25

Felix pretty sure it's just me now... Sorry guys! Baby will be here by next weekend latest

BuntCadger · 02/02/2014 13:41

Does anyone here have experience of diastatis recti? Zachary has it and im wondering when it improves. im going to see gp next week about it.

Frizz1986 · 02/02/2014 14:02

Great birth story enormouse

I have just been on a bus! I know this sounds lame but going with bubs on the bus has been scaring me a bit so Dh has come with me to the shop on it. Means I can get my confidence to venture out a bit further as after almost 6 weeks I am starting to almost feel myself again! Just need to get off my backside now and get out

MrsVDB · 02/02/2014 15:33

First lot of gel at 12.30 after waiting around for ages. Monitor was showing contractions but couldn't really feel them. 0cm dilated :( think I'm in for the long haul. No pain or anything. Just bouncing on the ball and planning to sneak out soon to pick up with pram with dh

Felix90 · 02/02/2014 16:08

MrsV it's a long process but think of the end result Grin

Just sorted through loads of newborn clothes that Sylvie has now grown out of Sad including my fave ever baby grow. Waaaaaah Confused

curlywurlyllass · 02/02/2014 16:47

Shedding a tear alongside Felix I put away the tiny baby clothes last night and judging by how fast james is growing, it won't be long until the newborn clothes are too wee :(

Congratulations fly & enormous

Good luck mrsV

What is diastis recti bunt?

BuntCadger · 02/02/2014 16:52

curly - it's where his tummy muscles didn't grow together so he has a largish gap with no muscle

TobyLerone · 02/02/2014 17:09

Putting away the tiny clothes is on my to do list for this week. She's growing too quickly and the cloth nappies mean that even though she'd still fit in newborn clothes, they don't fit over her bum!

Well done on the bus trip, frizz :)

Good luck, MrsV!
