Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Humpty, I'm not really sure how I do it, but I know I have to. I think I hold both of her hands down with my free hand (ie the one not holding her) and get her on the boob, then sort of trap them between my body and hers.

But then again, I don't usually use a hand to latch her on, so this wouldn't work if I needed to.

Ugh, felix. I hate that!

BookTart · 29/01/2014 08:50

humpty my boobs are so saggy and low that Persephone is basically resting on my lap when I feed her Blush which frees up a hand to wrestle with her little paws. Do you use a pillow/cushion to rest Alexandra on for feeding? That might do the same thing and free up a hand for you.

BuntCadger · 29/01/2014 09:25

humpty - maybe pop some socks on her hands? I guess they are so used to jamming their fists in where inside us that it's automatic for them to do so.

book tart Grin me too. lol

GummiBear74 · 29/01/2014 09:40

Annabel also likes to stuff both fists in her mouth when I'm trying to feed her. I do a bit like frizz - move them out of the way, then try to get the boob in quick. It would be easier with three hands, though.

I'm worrying about getting out as well. I'm quite happy to put her in the pram and go round the block or to the park, but I'm scared of going anywhere that I might have to feed or change her when out. We went to a local cafe for cakes last week, but I got panicky and brought her home as soon as she woke up. I'm supposed to go out for cakes with my NCT group on Friday, but I'm terrified of the idea. I'm not sure whether the best thing is to force myself to go anyway, or just wait a few weeks until I feel more confident (assuming that I do). What do you think?

BookTart · 29/01/2014 11:04

Might it feel easier if you are in a group with your NCT friends gummi? I sympathise - I currently can't go anywhere more than an hour door-to-door because I'm scared she'll cry or need feeding/changing, but I think it would be easier if there were other screaming babies there.

TobyLerone · 29/01/2014 11:34

I'll whip a boob out anywhere, but we're planning a trip to IKEA on Friday and I'm already wondering whether there will be somewhere to sit and feed Meredith when she decides she's starving that very second.
I might feed her in the car when we get there.

curlywurlyllass · 29/01/2014 11:45

Ive found james settles in his car seat and pram really well, often sleeping past feeding time. I would love a sling so i dont need to haul the pram everywhere (tho im getting good at folding it and getting in and out of cars)
What slings do you all use? Im carrying a lot of excess weight and have huge boobs already.

TobyLerone · 29/01/2014 11:53

We have a Moby wrap. I haven't had the chance to wear it yet because DH insists on carrying her in it. He's a bit obsessed with it!
We have a massive pram (Stokke Xplory) and it's a bit of a PITA in certain places. It's not meant for off-roading, so we use the sling when we take DS to rugby matches, and we use it in town if I know it'll be busy. And Meredith loves it. We'll be using it when we go to IKEA.

alteredimages · 29/01/2014 12:19

frizz the nurse thought Nour's weird spots were just baby acne, but the doctor says he has been getting too hot and needs more baths.Blush
So take your pick. I was v embarrassed as Nour was visibly in need of a bath but between his 10 hour non stop feeding, DD's gastroenteritis and emptying the flat for bed bug treatment I didn't manage it yesterday. Flat sprayed, now hanging around in a kebab shop like delinquent teenagers.

littleraysofsunshine · 29/01/2014 12:21

Having niggles here... Not counting them yet as they're a bit spread out. I'll still class them as BH's until they ramp up more. Definitely stronger, period cramp/back pain with them now. But not regular or lasting long enough. Slow start again I think and fast labour install... I have noticed that it's producing more cervical mucus though. Already that's what I think it is.

MrsVDB · 29/01/2014 12:49

altered it sounds like your coping very well and I'm sure the doctor could tell that so I wouldn't worry

Good luck litlle and also enormouse

Achey pain in pubic bone area which made me get up and bounce on ball for couple of hours last night but think the pain may be from ball bouncing ha ha

Frizz1986 · 29/01/2014 12:58

Thanks altered We top and tail every night but only bath once a week as were told not to do it too much. I think Aurelia might be getting too hot as well but they tell you what the room temp should be (have room thermometer to check) and then they say what clothes they should wear in that temp to be ok so i panic she would be too cold so its tricky.

littleraysofsunshine · 29/01/2014 13:00

Just had a bit of a show I think? More mucusy with a bit of blood. Not sure as I didn't have one in both pregnancies before. Also done a second poo (tmi) today where I usually can't really go!?

Pidgy · 29/01/2014 13:01

Toby is it worth investing in a Moby wrap? First day on my own with 20 month old and 2 week old. Went to a toddler group and I think a sling would have been handy! Especially when DS wanted to do painting. Needed 4 hands to hold baby and supervise.
They look tricky to do up? Or is that just me?

Gummi I'd go ASAP with your Nct friends. I was nervous first times I had to feed in public but there is strength in numbers! Now I just get on with it but it was nice to have the moral support of everyone with my first.

Pidgy · 29/01/2014 13:02

Ooh! littleray that sounds promising!!

enormouse · 29/01/2014 13:13

Well contractions/bhs have been very stop and start. Am thinking it might be best to send ds to his grandparents now as its starting to get a bit difficult to keep up with him. Not to mention he's obsessed with the birth ball and its hard to chase him and it around the house.

I've ordered the new pram (decided on a graco evo in the end) so that's a big worry off my mind. Unfortunately, mothercare were awful yet again so I won't be using them in the future.
But now I'm convinced I've forgotten something important.

toby I'd just sit down in one of the chairs/sofas/whatever they have and feed her if you're not near the cafe. Needs must and all that.

Good luck MrsV and littleray. Hope our hold outs make it out before February. Dp is convinced DS2 will arrive on his birthday (31st).

Good luck little

humpty i have two small piles. They aren't going anywhere. I've tried Germaloid cream and also the suppositories. Doesn't appear to have done anything. Anusol has done nothing too.

I'll speak with the dr if it doesn't go soon.

I'm going to pizza hut with my team from work, I'm looking forward to hanging out with my friends!

BandontheFun · 29/01/2014 13:29

Hi. Just trying to catch up. Congrats on the new arrivals!

This parenting lark is hard work. No one tells you how much worry you will feel all the time.

Totally with everyone who has the fear about taking their baby out, went a walk around the village yesterday and it took 2hours before we even left the house and that's with two of us.

Hope the hold out baby's make appearances soon and everyone is enjoying new baby snuggles!

TobyLerone · 29/01/2014 13:40

pidgy, I'd say that the Moby was definitely worth investing in for us, but I guess it's different for everyone. They're not as complicated as they look, and YouTube has loads of videos on how to use them.

I will say that it's best to put it on before you go out if you're not going to use it right away. Like if you're going shopping in the car or something. Put it on, drive where you're going, put the baby in when you get there. The sling is ridiculously long and I don't fancy dragging it across a filthy car park floor.

Felix90 · 29/01/2014 13:41

Toby the ikea in Leeds has a bf area when you first go in near the toilets so your local one should have one too!

Hope everyone still waiting has their babies soon! It must be so frustrating waiting around for things to happen.

Sylvie has been really unsettled the past few days and it's worse today. She's been fed, burped and changed but screams every time I put her down Sad I can't work out what's wrong with her and it's driving me nuts as I had planned to do loads of housework and actually eat some dinner today!

TarkaTheOtter · 29/01/2014 14:33

Toby I'd also just find a comfy looking chair/use the cafe at ikea, but feeding rooms make me feel claustrophobic.

I have a moby but I'm a bit fed up with it tbh. Also (and this is embarrassingly vain) I think it's really unflattering on me because all the fabric adds so much bulk. I much prefer the ergo even though I have to roll a blanket up to make him high enough as I don't have the newborn insert. Alex likes it though and always burps then sleeps when I put him in.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 29/01/2014 14:45

Hi everyone - going to have a proper catch up tonight.

humpty - Eva's the same. Her babygros have hand cover things which are integral. They help a bit. She kept pulling the gloves off.

toby - I have the same sling too. Need to work up the courage to use it as so worried I won't tie it properly

I've git somewhere in practically every room I go into with DS that I can dump Eva quickly and safely if I need to. Plus a playpen for him so feeling slightly more in control. Eva sleeps loads during the day (not so much at night!) so it's more when he's 18 months and she's 6 months, I'm dreading!

DH is feeding Eva between 8 - 12 while I express and have a sleep so that's helping me hugely. Plus I'm having a sleep when DS has his morning one. I'm so impressed at people who have been out. I'm keeping up to speed with washing and tidying but finding it really hard to get myself dressed as want to sleep when DS and Eva do!

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 29/01/2014 14:46

enormouse - good luck!!

Frizz1986 · 29/01/2014 14:50

felix could it. Be colic?

I need to get me a sling thing!

MrsVDB · 29/01/2014 14:53

gobbo I haven't even had the baby yet (or have any other children to look after) and I haven't been dressed for last 2 days. Although I did have a bath and put clean pjs on which is kind of like getting dressed ha ha
