Thanks toby and sultana. Go through waves of feeling utterly overwhelmed and thinking life has ended mainly because I'm still not that mobile (the anaemia, myriad stitches and massive pile, plus coccyx pain which is new but not welcome) and so feel a bit trapped.
We got out yesterday for the first time, which helped. I wish we had a car though, as even the idea of getting to a breastfeeding cafe etc seems too hard. Pathetic, eh?

nature we have the bed nest, and Alex sleeps well in it, if I tuck my feeding pillow around her shoulders (have to make sure she is lying flat, then turn it into a kind of hugging device) when she's down. Otherwise, she isn't totally convinced. I'm considering the Sleepyhead/cocoonababy as a safer alternative to the pillow. I think the secure feeling is important to them. She sleeps better in the carrycot of her pram which is smaller.

frizz great news on the jaundice! Well done Aurelia!

We are making progress with bfeeding. My supply is sometimes up to her demand, and we're topping her up less and less. We tried the Aptamil Hungrier Baby formula, but I think it disagrees with her as she gets appalling wind from it! Going to switch back to normal and see if it helps. The more I can ebf, the better though, as I am so lazy/sore I can't bear coming down in the night to get a bottle out/make one up/heat it, all while she yells for food.
For anyone with sore nips (as if there are many of us without), I've been trying Medela hydrogel pads today, 10 squid odd from mothercare for 4 pads, but each pair lasts 24 hours, you just put them back on after every feed. They cool the nipples so they heal faster. So far so good. I may not buy them regularly, but I am a fan for today!

littleraysofsunshine · 28/01/2014 16:08

Since sweep, More discharge here... As in the more loose snot like(tmi!) lots of niggles and like shooting pains in my cervix, and my bottom!? Along with lots of strong bh's, but not getting more painful. In comparison to last week, yes. But not over hours for example.

I think I'll come to the conclusion that it's just cake in there. No baby, just an over indulgence of cake lol Sad

MrsVDB · 28/01/2014 16:39

Ooh exciting little sounds like things are moving along for you

Still nothing here :(

umbrella · 28/01/2014 17:01

Thanks for the kind welcome girls! I have 2 boys already aged 7 and 5 but you forget just how much work a newborn is! My girl is called Alena she will be 2 weeks old tomorrow. Looking forward to getting to know you all :)

littleraysofsunshine · 28/01/2014 17:41

MrsVDB - I'm still not holding out much hope.. As in before February Confused - Saturday! Ah!

curlywurlyllass · 28/01/2014 17:43

Hi again ladies
Reading all your experiences really helps, especially in the small hours when I'm up with my little insomniac!

Marking our 6week anniversary, we have both had the 6week check up and I can now finally drive again :D I have my freedom back

Can never get in to post as Mr demanding wants attention as per usual, and again he is crying for something so I must go

Thinking of you all

TobyLerone · 28/01/2014 19:21

humpty, have you seen your GP about the pile? They can give you hydrocortisone cream and lactulose if you need it.

Frizz1986 · 28/01/2014 19:45

Need some advice from the experienced mum's.
Aurelia has some spots on her face, neck and head. If i shine a light over them she appears to have loads like a rash or something. They are small red spots and some have some puss in them. Her cheeks feel a little bit rough with them, they are under her chin, around some of her neck and have noticed a couple in her hair as well. The health visitor is def coming sometime this week so should I just ask her or do I need to try and get a urgent doctor's app tomorrow? Could they just be baby acne? Is it an allergy? A virus? Do I just wash them with water every day, should I put anything on them?

TobyLerone · 28/01/2014 19:59

I don't know what they are, frizz, but if it were me I'd wait for the HV unless they got really bad and were clearly bothering her. And I'd just clean it with cotton wool and water.

But the usual caveat re going to the GP if you're worried applies, obviously.

Frizz1986 · 28/01/2014 20:16

Thanks toby they dont seem to be bothering her at all and i dont want to be the crazy lady who goes all the way to the docs for nothing but didnt want to look like an awful mum for waiting to ask the hv as obv her health is more important than me looking like a loon.

TobyLerone · 28/01/2014 20:19

Babies are often quite rashy as their skin adjusts to being in the world.

alteredimages · 28/01/2014 20:24

humpty I totally relate to wanting to get out more. I only manage to get out for appointments and it is rubbish! I get worried about leaving nour in the sling too long or him getting cold. Also no car and pram impractical as we are on the third floor. I remember it getting loads better with DD after six weeks though.

frizz that sounds quite like baby acne to me, at least I hope it is because nour has loads of spots just as you describe all over his face.Smile he has a check up tomorrow so will let you know what they say.

Quick question: are babies in the UK given vitamin d drops daily and weekly vitamin k? Nour hates the vitamin k and not sure what specific clotting disorders it is to protect against?

Pidgy · 28/01/2014 20:29

Sounds like baby acne frizz, especially if they're mainly on face/ neck. Quite common and my DS had them pretty bad.
Check with hv though.
I just washed his face with water at first and then in the bath with baby bubble bath (in the water, not directly on his skin) which seemed to help.

enormouse · 28/01/2014 20:40

frizz I second what toby says. As long as you keep her hands away from her face and stop her scratching them, they should resolve in time. I used those little white socks that are folded over on DSs hands as I found scratch mitts to be useless.

littleray I'm feeling the same. Some contractiony pains and stabbing sensations in my cervix and bum. Have also had diarrhoea (sorry tmi) and I'm wondering when to go in. The crampy pains have been on going since about 6 this evening.

I managed to take ds to mum's and toddlers today so that wore him out somewhat and I got to sit and eat cookies. Could have done without the endless 'so when are you due again?' Questions though.

TobyLerone · 28/01/2014 20:43

Yy good point about keeping her hands away.

Sounds hopeful, enormouse :)

Felix90 · 28/01/2014 20:43

Altered, Sylvie had the vitamin K injection when she was born but that's all she's had.

I just realised I haven't left the house since last Tuesday and have worn pyjamas every day since Wednesday Blush I'm finding it really hard as I don't drive and there's nothing to do around the area we live unless we travel a few miles. I'm too scared to get the bus anywhere with Sylvie too Sad I am going to start driving lessons soon as I have some money saved up but what on earth do I do in the meantime? I'm worried about getting the bus as they are busy all day around here and there's only space for 2 prams and if they are full you have to just keep waiting for a bus that has a free space. I don't want to get stranded somewhere. Sorry I'm rambling now but just sending myself a bit crazy...

TobyLerone · 28/01/2014 20:45

Could you use a sling, frizz? It's not good to be cooped up for all that time.

Felix90 · 28/01/2014 20:57

Me and frizz's names are too similar Grin

We have just bought an ergobaby with the newborn insert (which makes her look like a very uncomfortable burrito) but I can't get it clipped up at the back without assistance Sad

Felix90 · 28/01/2014 20:58

Sorry my grammar is awful!!!!

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 28/01/2014 21:10

toby I have lactulose and hydrocortisone cream, it's just slow to go down.

altered and felix glad it's not just me. We have to get to the postnatal clinic at the hospital on sat and I'm dreading it. We'll have to get a cab, and I have no idea if/how we'll be ready at a particular time!

Had a nice day today with my sister visiting. Not too tired at the mo even, or I'm adapting to lack of sleep, so starting to feel I might be able to do this. Maybe. Hmmm. Wink

Frizz1986 · 28/01/2014 21:26

I second the going outside fear. I only go on 10-15 min walks in the week when dh has the car. Have to go for my 6 week check at gp on tues so will have to get the bus. Am petrified!

TobyLerone · 28/01/2014 21:46

Oh, FFS! Sorry, felix Blush

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 29/01/2014 03:56

Bfeeding ladies, a question:
Do you have any advice on how to get my daughter to take her fists out of her mouth when feeding? She sucks both fists obsessively, and I don't have enough hands to hold her and hold her hands out of the way and get the latch right.
I've tried swaddling, but she screams frantically if her arms are restrained that way.
It's driving me a bit nuts!

Frizz1986 · 29/01/2014 05:44

humpty no idea as Aurelia is the same. I just try and move them and get in fast.

I think we have gone back a big step as don't think she is latching well anymore. I think she doesn't have a good seal on the boob as it seems to dribble out the bottom. Have tried everything though as it only started about a week ago and I am not doing anything differently. Grrrrr
