I honestly dont know how we have done it and it doesn't always work.
I started off wrapping her blanket around her and laying her on my legs to drift off. I made sure I didn't touch her or anything so she got used to me not there. Then I scooped her up in the blanket and put her in the basket . After a while it seemed to work a bit, but not always. And now she does settle eventually.

Hi all!!! Baby girl arrived at 1.04pm at home as planned following what felt like the worlds quickest labour! Was bliss not having to get in the car to get to hospital and mws arrived just as I felt slightly stressed by the increased level of pain. Turns out I was doing well and was 5cm which out me in a fab mood as was going just on tens. Ctx ramped up significantly and I started using gas and air and about an hour into the mws arrival I started to feel that bearing down pressure, which I found frightening and recognised the signs of transition ('I can't do this, I am going to be sick') etc and then my body took over completely and I turned into some sort of wild thing, but thankfully short lived and baby was born 20 mins later on our sitting room floor. Was miraculous and in addition I didn't tear and placenta was delivered intact as that was one fear (humpty, thinking of you!!) was amazing getting into bed all clean and fresh with our two boys asleep throughout. Only prob is I was on such an adrenaline high I couldn't sleep despite the baby sleeping soundly until 9.30 am!! She is very quiet, very calm, a very good feeder and I can't quite believe it.

Masses and masses if luck to those contracting today and who are left to go into labour, the whole thing is a complete miracle! Huge congrats to humpty too, what an experience, I hope you recover quickly.

Mythreeknights · 19/01/2014 12:18

Sorry, that meant to read 1.04am!!

MrsVDB · 19/01/2014 12:27

Congratulations mythree sounds like it all went to plan. Must of been lovely getting straight in bed :)

Angelesque · 19/01/2014 12:29

Woah Mythree that sounds incredible!! Congratulations! Have you had any time yet to think of a name?

TobyLerone · 19/01/2014 12:29

Huge congratulations, mythree! I am so Envy of your lovely home birth!
What are you calling her? What did she weigh?

alteredimages · 19/01/2014 12:52

humpty you are a complete star, I am in awe of all who have had difficult labours and feel a right twat for complaining about nour's birth. Great name, but I think you are right about waiting to see if it suits her. Nour was going to be Ali for the first two and a half days, but it just didn't suit him. I still like the name Ali better than Nour, but Nour is his name, if that makes any sense.

nature so glad all is well.

Congratulations blue on Sofia's (sp?) birth. Sorry, I can't get back to check spelling but so impressed with all these big babies. I have tiddlers so can't imagine what it must be like to give birth to a large baby. Well done!

Any news from mythree?

Hope sultanajo is just busy having snuggles with Henry. A bit worrying we haven't heard from her since the birth. Anyone been in touch with her?

Nour is joining the jaundice club. Coming up for three weeks and seems to be getting yellower not better, but every time I take him to the health centre they just say he is fine because of the measurement at three days old. He has been realky sleepy this weekend though and missing feeds which is worrying, esp as his weight gain hasn't been great anyway (nipple shields and latch issues). He seems a bit perkier today so will wait to have him seen tomorrow morning rather than out of hours today. Do you think thats ok, or should I do something urgently?

Cautionary tale for you all: when you come home from the hospital don't just eat crap and lower your water intake. Then, if you become constipated don't ignore it for a week til you get an anal fissure. They are agony and I feel like i am giving birth all over again each time I go to the toilet. Fibre is your friend! Though I upped my intake all in one go and thought I would die of gas and cramps. I have never been constipated before, I will now be far more sympathetic!

enormouse so sorry to hear about DP's and your loss. Hope things stay calm til after the funeral.

sarah i had really bad afterpains this time round. Hope the MW can reassure you and everything is fine.

Hope I am not jinxing myself but Nour sleeps happily in his crib. DD would only sleep on my chest and still needs to be hugged or stroked to go to sleep at 3 and a half and climbs in our bed most nights. I think a lot has to do with the baby's own personality so don't worry it is something you are doing wrong. I can't believe the difference btw Nour and DD. I alwats thought with DD's constant nursing and not sleeping it was something I was doing wrong, or not being consistent enough.

X post. Congratulations mythree!

fryingpantoface · 19/01/2014 12:58

Congratulations mythree! That sounds amazing! I wanted a home birth with Henry but Dh wasn't keen because of all the trouble we've had to even have him.

Yey for waters breaking mrs!

i didn't go to church, I'm just too tired. Also I've started bleeding heavily again which the mw said was a sign i wasn't taking it easy. So relaxing is the order of the day.

i don't know if anyone remembers me applying for a promotion in dec, but I've finally heard back and i have an interview on Thursday. I have to do a 15 min presentation about why I'm the best person for the role and specifically what i can bring to the role. I have to have emailed my presentation to the interviewers by Tuesday. So i have to do that. I'm a little anxious about leaving Henry while I do it, even though dh will be at home with him. I know i will only be a couple of hours but I've not left him yet. I feel a bit panicked about dh taking him shopping while i stay at home today, but i figure best we get this first time leaving him out the way before the interview.
sorry for the rambling.

fryingpantoface · 19/01/2014 13:02

altered ouch! Sounds nasty!!

how do you pronounce Nour? Is it like N-or? Or Noir? Or like the beginning of the word North? I pronounce it in my head like the last one.

i was also wondering about sultana hope things are ok!

TobyLerone · 19/01/2014 13:13

Balls! Wrote a long post and lost it in the rush to finish before Meredith eats DH's arm off.

l have heard from sultana. She's fine -- still working out which way is up, which I'm certain many of us can sympathise with! And she lost us, so I gave her a link and I'm sure she'll be back soon :)

Sorry to hear about bum issues. We always think the worst is over once the baby's out, only to have to contend with piles, fissures, afterpains and razorblade nipples!

alteredimages · 19/01/2014 13:16

It rhymes with poor and tour in a scottish accent. Smile It is a bit more common as a girl's name now, so he will probably spend a lot of time explaining actually, he is a boy/man. I think it was also an ambitious choice for my Welsh family who thought he was called Noah. Oops. They are likely to give him a Welsh name on the side.

Realised that I forgot to congratulate gummi and gobbolino. Sorry, and enjoy your lovely babies! Flowers

Good to hear sultana is fine. Babies are so hard, especially the first one! Hope things calm down for her soon.

fryingpantoface · 19/01/2014 13:37

Thanks! I'm from Northumberland so can sound the name out, roughly, how it's supposed to sound :)

MrsGSR · 19/01/2014 14:24

Congratulations mythree!

Glad you got checked out and everything is ok nature

Contractions slowed down so I had a nap, and now they seem to have stopped! Have to go in later as they want to check me over due to waters breaking, are they likely to induce me if it's been 24 hours since they went?

OnlyThePurpleOnes · 19/01/2014 14:24

Congratulations MyThree, that's an amazing story!

TobyLerone · 19/01/2014 14:28

Possibly, MrsG. That's what they did with me. And it was automatic 24-hr obs for Meredith.

BookTart · 19/01/2014 15:09

mythree that sounds like a fantastic birth - congratulations!

AnotherStitchInTime · 19/01/2014 15:12

congratulations my three, had a feeling it would all happen quite quickly for you.

Sarah hope the midwives have been to check you over

MrsG exciting about your waters, hope the contractions get going again soon

nature glad all is OK

altered if Nour is looking more yellow, sleeping more and feeding less then he needs to be checked again properly. The bilirubin binds to the fats in your milk which allows it to be excreted by baby. If he isn't feeding enough the levels might build up again. Can you either strip him off and wake him to feed or express and try to bottle, syringe or spoon feed 2-3 hourly?

alteredimages · 19/01/2014 16:06

Thanks another. He is feeding every 2 to 3 hours now but dropping off to sleep again quicker than I would like. Def better than yesterday though, so will do as you suggest til the morning. If he gets sleepier again I will take him to pediatric a&e to be on the safe.side. I don't have a breast pump unfortunately so I will have to hand express which is a pain!

Frizz1986 · 19/01/2014 17:10

Congrats mythree and what a lovely sounding birth. Am v jealous but couldn't imagine a home birth. Dog would prob eat the placenta!

frying i am still bleeding too. It only creates a small stain on a pad but there seems to be quite a bit of mucous red blood when I wipe. Am hoping I just need a week of relaxing (i thought it was supposed to turn pink/ brown by this point - almost 4 weeks pp) Am planning on leaving housework this week and spending time on the sofa. If things are still bleedy after that I think I need to see someone! Should I mention it to health visitor on Tues?

altered def wake him up every 2-3 hrs (i set a timer) and feed for at least 15-20mins (i again timed this) Strip him down to his nappy to keep him awake but put a few layers on his feet (a tip from a lovely midwife who said it would get Aurelia to put more weight on as she wouldn't be wasting calories by heating up her feet) Since doing it Aurelia put on almost 50g a day and now wakes herself every 2-3hrs to feed and is still piling on the lbs.
They should test for bilirubin levels as they can go up so it's bad they are relying on earlier ones. They will double check that it's just breastfeeding jaundice which is easier to get rid of.
My jaundice clinic monitors Aurelia now to check her levels are going down and her weight is still good.

Can't remember much else. Did someone's waters go? Huge Yay and fx this is it.

Sending labour vibes ladies.

sarahleanne · 19/01/2014 17:40

Congratulations my three that actually sounds like an amazing birth.

Midwife has been and said it may be after pains or a kidney infection so I'm none the wiser. Seems to be easing now though , I just want to sit in a hot bath all day.

Mrsg congrats on water breakage :) won't be long now one way or the other.

littleraysofsunshine · 19/01/2014 18:32

Congratulations humpty, Genevieve is one of the names we might have for a Middle one as we already have our name decided for boy or girl!

Congratulations MYthree! We were planning on home birth as I deliver fast but midwife now wants us to try and get to MLU as I've had a precious bleed.

And all other new bundles, my memory is poor and can't keep going back on my phone lol

I can't alter my privacy settings on Facebook :( would like to join. Smile

Went for a walk with the dogs and kiddies today hoping to spur things on but only resulted in more BH's, downward pressure, baby squirming but nothing more...

The thing I find odd is that with my two I never had warning as such they just happened! Overdue though.

+5, & +9 days...

I keep going to bed thinking "will I make it to MLU" "will I have enough warning" "will my waters not go like with dd1" or "will they be the first sign like dd2" an just having a kind of plan for dd's childcare when it happens. Dp doesn't drive at the min so we have to get a lift.

All these things keep me anxious along with remembering that pain Grin lol but that's inevitable.. And I managed pain relief-free with both but can't help but feel apprehensive I guess? Then I feel positive and channel into myself and think well look lady us women are made for this, you've done it before, twice. Just be brave and enjoy. Hard with hormone overspill ...

Sorry for essay

MrsVDB · 19/01/2014 19:01

So haven't felt much movement at all today. Very tired and when this happens do get quieter days. Not feeling too worried and don't want to make a fuss. Do you think I should be worried/ go get checked?

alteredimages · 19/01/2014 19:44

MrsV Nour was a very quiet baby and would do that a lot. If he didnt move a little once I lay down for an hour or so I would have gone to get checked, but thankfully every time I was beginning to get really frantic he would wriggle. If you have had a drink and have been resting for more than an hour I would get checked to be on the safe side. I'm sure it is fine, but better to be sure.

I have googled jaundice and kernicterus and now properly freaking out. DH is taking DB to airport and DD has conked out on the sofa so will have to wait til morning but I hope I haven't been ignoring important signs. I am so angry at myself for listening to them at the health centre these past two weeks and just hope it is ok. Will take N straight to hospital to be on the safe side. DFather and three DBs were visiting this weekend which is why I didn't go last night. I called the emergency out of hours yesterday though and they said it wasnt urgent enough to send someone out but I could go to the hospital if concerned. Was going to go today if he didnt improve but as he has been feeding fine last night and today I left it, and now regretting it. Aaargh, I feel such a bad mother and don't think i'll be sleeping tonight. Sad

BuntCadger · 19/01/2014 20:46

No progress here and been reading up on waters going as looks as tho mine have been leaking for a while. damn Google always should step away as now getting all paranoid

I did look up ina someone. A midwife who talks about sphincter law and found some fab videos on YouTube about birth and how I need to relax Smile
