Lovely husband brought me tea and toast in bed before going to work!

IceNoSlice · 20/02/2014 11:56

My old work colleague (was due 2 days before me) popped her baby out early last week - and has finally chosen a name. The same name we've gone for!

I haven't seen her in a couple of years - just FB friends now really - so not too bothered. But then a mutual friend (who I do see a lot more often) commented on the post "That's the name we've chosen for a girl! Maybe next time!" (She has 2 boys).

And there was me thinking I hadn't chosen THAT common a name. Harrumph. (The name is Emma BTW).

commsgirl · 20/02/2014 12:53

Ice Emma's a lovely name :)

Lottie you have to go with what you feel comfortable with. I'm the same as Rock, have got a Tommee Tipee from a friend that I know was only used a couple of times unsuccessfully, so that's good enough for me!

dizhin79 · 20/02/2014 13:51

bloody hell Emma is my most common name of all my friends, which ok is our generation and not this but my DP jokes that I collect them, especially Emma Janes!! I have approximately 13 in my social /peer group!

mrsmugoo · 20/02/2014 14:54

Rockchick1984 Yep fully aware of Mum tum after giving birth, outfit fits now, it's a sheer loose shirt & maternity leggings. I'm still wearing some floaty shirts from before pregnancy now and also vest tops that haven't become stretched beyond all recognition so I reckon I'll be ok. It's more just that I wanted to look semi "nice" rather than a bedraggled mess in pyjamas, whilst still feeling comfy and covering up the jelly belly.

Wuxiapian · 20/02/2014 23:02

Haven't been here for a bit, but wanted to add to the popped-already list.

Baby was born on valentine's day, 3 weeks early, weighing 7lbs 5oz.

I wish you all happy and healthy final countdown!!

Yogibear72 · 20/02/2014 23:16

Sorry I've not been in for ages...

Dita I've been having lots of Braxton hicks since 35 weeks when I also had the lightening and my bump dropped. Midwife confirmed that I'm about as engaged as I could be without the baby popping out! "I'm surprised your still walking pet" she told me during an internal.
Now that I'm 38+4 and baby is much heavier I now know exactly what she meant - walking any distance is very difficult!! Managing to stay active with swimming and do yoga. Sometimes these contractions wake me up so they are pretty strong Shock

Owl loving the mat leave updates Wink. Day 10 of Mat Leave here and I seem to be spending quite a lot of my time on the sofa watching the Winter Olympics (now blamed on walking issues -see above) Blush

Lottie thanks for the breast pump info. I've not bought mine yet but am definately thinking new would be better. I guess the other problem with second hand is it invalidates the guarantee.

Can't decide on the Medela swing or the Avent electric pump? They both have good reviews, although Medela is definitely more popular. Thing is I've already bought the Avent bottles and steriliser.

dizhin79 · 21/02/2014 00:33

congrats wuxi how lovely that's 2 Martians on valentines day now Grin

mrsmugoo · 21/02/2014 07:47

Congrats Wuxiapian!

OwlinaTree · 21/02/2014 08:30

Congrats wuxi! Can we know the name?

Scan this am, wish me luck.

dizhin79 · 21/02/2014 08:38

yogi unless you want dane brand everything the brand of the bottles shouldn't matter as you don't fill in to those ones directly, as I understand it.

owlina hope the scan goes well.

Happy Friday people thank gawd it's the weekend it feels like it's been a long week!

midnight1983 · 21/02/2014 09:07

Hi all, haven't been on for ages, but have limited internet again so hi! Am now 9 days away form due date and getting impatient...for those who have done this before, how long can you feel twinges and period-type aches before you go into actual labour? Like I said, getting impatient! Congrats to those with new babies already :)

IceNoSlice · 21/02/2014 09:48

diz yeah, lots of Emmas in my generation but no babies or small children that I knew, that's what I meant. But that was kind of why I liked it - not too trendy or 'of the time'. But not 'out of fashion' either. You could be 80 or 8, from Rochester or Richmond. Well, that was the theory.

I hope I don't offend anyone - so many different ideas of names etc - but I know so many Olivia/ Amelia/ Amelie/ Isabella/ Mia/ Millie/ Mae/ Lily etc. I think they might mark out this generation in the same way there were loads of Louise, Becky, Joanna's in my year at school. (All nice names BTW).

IceNoSlice · 21/02/2014 09:52

By the way - people who have popped... Is anyone starting a post natal thread? It has cooled off so much on here lately there may not be many posts yet! And woth only 4 Martian babies so far (that turned out to be pre-March) perhaps i'm jumping the gun. But if you do/have start one- post the link on here?

FrankelInFoal · 21/02/2014 10:04

Just checking back in before this falls off my active threads!

38 week appt yesterday and baby is 2/5ths engaged. Someone told me that most first babies arrive within 3 weeks of starting to engage, which means, if true, I'm looking at sometime next week!

Good luck to all those having presentation scans and to orange

Wuxiapian · 21/02/2014 10:05

Thanks guys :)

Owl, we're still undecided about a name, but have shortlisted Evie and Poppy.

Enjoy the scan!

dizhin79 · 21/02/2014 10:25

wuxie both lovely names xx

ice very good call, it is a true classic. And works so well with most surnames too!Grin

dizhin79 · 21/02/2014 10:27

Frankel it doesn't sound like an accurate prediction method but I like it!! Am still only 4/5ths and have been for 2 weeks lol, sounds like a big decent could be on the cards

dizhin79 · 21/02/2014 10:27

*descent! not decent

IceNoSlice · 21/02/2014 10:39

Am I confused? I thought 4/5th was more engaged than 2/5ths...

IceNoSlice · 21/02/2014 10:42

Just found this which makes it clear as mud:

www.nct.org.uk/pregnancy/understanding-your-pregnancy-medical-notes

It seems they are either referring to 4/5ths of the baby's head in OR out of the pelvis! Helpful.

FrankelInFoal · 21/02/2014 10:49

My midwife said the terminology her team use is to describe how much is engaged. So my 2/5ths is 2/5ths in the pelvis but 3/5ths out. She also said that a lot of babies don't fully descend until the waters have broken.

commsgirl · 21/02/2014 10:52

I think 4/5 is the least engaged you can be, it's how much of the head they can feel out of the pelvis so the lower the number the lower the baby's head. That's what my midwife told me anyway.

Congratulations wuxi. Both lovely names helpful

I've had my presentation scan this morning. Head down! So relieved. I hope yours goes well too owl

dizhin79 · 21/02/2014 11:00

yeah I thought least engaged too, only get occasional head bangs on the cervix and still bump is quite high
