Sounds sensible mrsv. I know it's stressful not having things finished (as I sit in my living room with plaster coloured walls, no picture rail, bare floorboards and no curtains!) but you really do have to look after yourself. It's been irritating me that things have been taking me longer as I can't do so much but I've had to accept it.

Frizz my dh quite likes the stretchy wraps, and I've bought ours in a dark blue and black so suitable for us both. But definitely check out a sling library as you can try them all and find the best fit. Smile

I had a successful shopping trip. Went to order my curtains but didn't! Fabric shop across the road road was open so popped in there and they had a fabric I much preferred and the cost would be half the price, so I got a sample to show dh and I'll go back and order tomorrow. Finally might get one thing sorted Smile . Also managed to find all the storage baskets I need for the bathroom and bedroom, and got the pooch a lovely new blanket to hopefully keep her warmer at night so she won't cry, and also new throws for the sofas. But didn't actually do anything on the house. Oh well.

Ergo is great. It's really long lasting. We still use it for hiking instead of one of those massive metal framed contraptions and dd is nearly 2.

Felix90 · 06/01/2014 18:03

Tarka that's what sold it for us! We go to the Lake District a few times every year and OH wanted one of the proper hiking ones but after we tried the ergo we decided it was a good compromise. Our NCT lady said her 3 year old still fits in theirs!

AnotherStitchInTime · 06/01/2014 18:16

DH still uses our Manduca (like Ergo) to back carry dd2 (2 next month), it is great when you want to get on a bus in rush hour. I found it very comfortable to back carry dd2 in it until I got a bigger pregnancy bump.

MrsVDB · 06/01/2014 18:20

I'm planning on going to a sling meet once baby is here to try them out as I have no idea where to start.

Question please- how likely are they to keep me in after monitoring tomorrow assuming blood pressure is 140/90? I'm thinking of planning like ill have to stay in (ie finish packing bag, sort out lady garden etc). Do you think mw was being over conservative?

Frizz1986 · 06/01/2014 19:07

Thanks for the sling tips ladies. Have found that there is a sling meet every monday in Preston so I should be able to go to that. Not yet though as am getting rid of my car (webuyanycar.com so doubt i'll get much) on saturday and will be carless until either school hols or when i get the new car in march. Am not quite ready for the bus yet what with all the achyness from the stitches etc.
First day solo went well. Got my afternoon snooze as well Smile
Dh had an ok first day but says that he still isnt sure of the syllabus that he is teaching and no one seems to be wanting to tell him. But he seems ok about it and its still only his first day so hope things will get better. He can apply for other jobs for sept too so he is only tied in until the end of the school year.
He has some work to do this eve tho which sucks as have realised we might not get much family time now he is back at work.

Oh well.
Mw tomorrow so hoping the munchkin has put on yet more weight. Then its hearing test on wednesday and health visitor on thursday. My god what a busy week!

BuntCadger · 06/01/2014 20:01

I have a closer and an ergo. Both are great but closer didnt last as long in terms of size of baby hence ergo. If I didnt still have closer I'd be getting newborn insert for ergo. It's absolutely fab and supports baby well and doesn't do forward facing which is good as forward facing crotch danglers are not good for baby.

My friend uses the wrap slings and is fab at tying them. I tried dd in a Tibetan hold as bump was too big with ergo and it pulled across my shoulders so didnt do it again.

sarahleanne · 06/01/2014 20:04

Mrsv they will do bloods to check for signs of preeclampsia . When my bp went over 90 they kept me in overnight for monitoring and let me go the next day as it settled down but they won't let me go overdue hence why I'm being induced at 40weeks. However, I do have a history of pre e with my first and high bp with my 2nd so it may be different for you.

Felix90 · 06/01/2014 20:08

Ugh just finishing off my antibiotics for a UTI and now I'm pretty sure I'm getting thrush Confused I've only ever had it once before when I was a teenager so don't know if I'm just being paranoid but I'm definitely getting itchy down stairs and I'm sure it's getting worse. Arghhhhh!!!!

Bluecarrot · 06/01/2014 20:18

Great news - I'm not being induced! Ill have daily monitoring with GP but they are happy my BP is fine and baby is well so at my request I will have another sweep on Thursday and otherwise be left alone til +10.

Means the possibility of water birth is back which was always important to me.

Cervix still long (3cm) and only 1cm dilated. Feeling hopeful though. Will catch up with everyone when I'm home on laptop.

BuntCadger · 06/01/2014 20:20

That's fab blue carrot :) what's your edd? I'm hoping for water birth too

Angelesque · 06/01/2014 20:29

Lovely news Blue, good work!

Have tempted fate today by booking a nice hotel for this Fri to celebrate start of mat leave... I'll only be 37 + 3 on Friday and baby is my first, so there's no way it will come before then... Is there? ;)

Frizz1986 · 06/01/2014 20:48

Yay blue glad u might get the water birth you wanted.

Oooo risky angel Am sure it will be fine. Although mine arrived at 37+4.......Mat leave had only started at 36+5 and i was uncomfortable and then in pain (with what i now know was early labour) from 37 weeks.
Most dont arrive early though so youll be ok.

fryingpantoface · 06/01/2014 21:09

Yey Blue!

i have a Kari Me. I love it. Ds still goes in it and he's 2.3

well, I've been having strong contractions every 5 mins all day. I'm no further on, cervix still long, head not engaged. So will have another pessary tonight

MrsVDB · 06/01/2014 21:10

Great news blue I'd love a water birth :)

Thanks sarah it's strange as bp was high today but booked me in for monitoring tomorrow. Hoping its back to normal tomorrow and they just send me home

fryingpantoface · 06/01/2014 21:20

Tip for your bags ladies!

bought new black underwear for your hospital bags? Make sure you wash them before wearing them.

i put new, just from the packet, knickers on today. Only just occurred to me after three pessary falling put failures, that i will now have black fluff all around my muff. Checked, and i do! So i look like i have a hairy chuff. No one has said a word.

the shame.

TobyLerone · 06/01/2014 21:22

Good tip, frying!

I never, ever wear anything new without washing it first. People think it's bonkers. I feel vindicated now :o

fryingpantoface · 06/01/2014 22:17

Definitely, vindication is here for you!

what a pratt

Bluecarrot · 06/01/2014 22:42

bunt My Edd is today but I was being sent for induction because of what was basically an error by a midwife taking my BP, making it seem high. Dr today said she didn't think baby was as much as 9lbs either and not to worry.

angel bring your notes and a small bag of stuff just in case! Sadly closest I'm getting to tempting fate is putting clean bedding on... ;)

I had an ergo for my dd2 and used it occasionally with her right up to age 4ish iirc. This time I've gone for moby to begin with and might get an ergo when dd2 6 months + Also been contemplating a ring sling just because moby hard to put on without it going on the floor and thought of it doing that in cafés or outside makes me wretch a bit!

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 06/01/2014 22:48

frying still keeping everything crossed for you.

blue that's ace news. I really don't want to be induced as the only pain relief I want is water and G&A, so would be sad if they have to.

Talking of such, my 40 wk mw appt was a bit shit, she seemed distracted, didn't measure me, did bloods (they wanted to repeat 28 week bloods as new antenatal care) but only put the tube thingies in two of the three bags I had (was going to wait for phlebotomy, but she offered) despite me asking about the third, couldn't find heartbeat for ages, wasn't sure about lie & presentation etc. She asked about my 41 wk appt, whether it was booked (she's covering for usual mw), I said no.
Next thing is a text from hospital (am under community mws) to say I have an appt on Fri at hospital. Normally, I see mw on Thursday (her one day) at GPs. This hospital appt is going to be for a sweep, isn't it? Thing is, I'm not convinced I want one, and to just be booked in for it, without warning or asking, has got my back up a bit. Tell me to get a grip?

Bluecarrot · 06/01/2014 22:53

humpty same here though gas and air may be out as it made me a bit too spaced out last time.

Re midwife, how do you normally book your mw? Will regular one be back any day soon? I'd call and book

Bluecarrot · 06/01/2014 22:56

Whoops...

I'd call and book directly with midwife. You can say no to a sweep. I said no to my first offered one, consultant did a light sweep at next apt without asking, and I asked for one today and Thursday. I'd do the same again. Its a but uncomfortable just.

Bluecarrot · 06/01/2014 23:01

I went to local meeting of this www.positivebirthmovement.org/ and it was v empowering. Similar info to what Ina may gaskin says- it's your body, your baby, your birth. I'd recommend it.

MrsVDB · 06/01/2014 23:01

humpty it's so frustrating when they don't seem as thorough isn't it, must be even more annoying at 40w. I'd call hospital and ask what appointment is for. There's a good clinic that take blood in catford, I think it's every morning. You just go in and take a ticket.

I realised I didn't talk to mw about birth plan still and next time I see her will be 40w when she said shell give me a sweep. Not decided on if ill take it or not. Has told me to book 39w apt at GPs if they don't induce me before but gp is useless. Guess ill just go with the flow

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 07/01/2014 01:31

Thanks blue and MrsV, will ring hospital tomorrow to find out for sure! sadly mw off for another 10 days and only works one day a week at our surgery (the only contact I have for her is via surgery, otherwise I have numbers for birth centre, hospital labour ward, day assessment unit and community mws, who don't answer).

I might find out the local positive birth group, that's a great idea. My main worry (too strong a word, you know what I mean) is induction = no birth centre and therefore no water birth, and being over 42 weeks, even if no induction, also means no birth centre. Kind of a rock and a hard place situation. Never mind, back to curries, shagging and EPO Grin
