I'm a recruitment consultant and I'm not going back after the baby is born. I'm in the process of registering as a childminder so when the baby is a few months old, I'll start doing that to earn money. I used to do respite care for kids and adults with disabilities so I'm sure it's not much harder than that! And I'm well used to paperwork too.
The hours in recruitment are too long to do with a baby. Also it's a soulless profession and I want to get out before I turn evil or Tory like the rest of them! Grin

Choppa · 02/01/2014 14:06

Moomin...we bought the joie brisk travel system...£96 bargain at mother care. Had a much more expensive one last time but ended up only using it for 6 months as it was too heavy and cumbersome. Straight it stroller this time!

I'll be finishing work at Easter when I'll be about 37 weeks and prob going back in jan 2015. I'm a Supply Chain Manager of a team across Northern Europe so I'll be stopping the travel around mid Feb. I work for Nivea.

Flixy102 · 02/01/2014 14:29

I work in a really tiny team of 3 (the boss in one office, myself and another girl in our own office) for the local police force so am aiming to get to easter (38 weeks) and then back part time in Jan I think. Will probably keep in close contact with work when I'm off too.

bluestone85 · 02/01/2014 14:40

I just work in admin for a university. I'm hopefully finishing around 8th April (by using holiday) and starting maternity at 38 weeks. But yes, I will have to go back part time, unfortunately! I would much rather stay at home with the little one!

loopylou52 · 02/01/2014 14:49

I'm a civil servant. I'm planning to finish work at the end of March (using holiday) and then will hopefully go back part time next year. I hope to take as close to a year off as possible but I guess we'll see how it goes.

wm3010 · 02/01/2014 15:18

Hi all, just checking in after a very busy but nice christmas and new year. Lots to catch up on I see, hope you are all doing well. Seems quite real now it is happening this year doesn't it?!

mrsmummytobe · 02/01/2014 17:24

Eeek we have just bought a brand new bugaboo Cameleon 3! I'm so excited! We're picking it up tomorrow! We got a really good deal with the car seat included as well.

mrsmummytobe · 02/01/2014 17:26

I'm a teacher is going back for just a few days for the start of the summer term then going on maternity leave at about 37/38 weeks.

mrsmummytobe · 02/01/2014 17:26

*sorry, meant to write so not is.

dobedobedo · 02/01/2014 17:27

Aww I just had a "moment".

I was just thinking that the baby hadn't moved in a while, and then I thought "oh he must be sleeping," and for whatever reason, the thought of that made me melt with tears in my eyes and everything! What a soppy cow.

moominleigh94 · 02/01/2014 17:49

Went shopping with my mum today and she got into full Nan mode and bought the baby a Winnie The Pooh top and some adorable little soft shoes Grin she's so excited!

Has anyone done the torch trick yet? We tried it last night, OH shone a torch at different places on my bump and we were watching as the baby kicked wherever he shone the torch. It's incredible, the kicks are so strong now we can see them from the outside!!

Xavielli · 02/01/2014 18:02

I just do the Mum thing :) I was very much looking forward to getting a job later this year for a break.

RuldolfsFlea · 02/01/2014 18:29

Hello and happy new year to everybody.

I had my 20 week scan this week and all was well. The reassuring bit was the amniotic fluid being fine. I have so much discharge that I was beginning to wonder. Sonographer was lovely and just let us watch the baby kicking around for a few minutes at the end after she finished her checks.

I ordered the Natal hypnotherapy book and cd from amazon this week. I'm hoping it will relax me a bit for the rest of the pregnancy. As well as the labour bit.

Hezbean · 02/01/2014 18:39

I work in a small company, a little independent record label. I really love it and the people I work with. Definitely going to go back, probably sometime after Christmas next year. At the moment it feels horrible thinking of handing my job over to someone else for a while, but I am sure that when the little one arrives I'll feel differently! I'm a bit anxious about how I'll juggle things when I go back to work but luckily have a very lovely and understanding boss whose wife recently had their first baby, and I think things will be a bit flexible.

Scan tomorrow! Very excited. Can't wait to see the baby again - we're planning to be team yellow unless it gives us a flash!

Just been having a look at a few baby bits online - haven't actually pressed the BUY button on anything yet though! Perhaps after the scan.....

V excited hearing about everyone's purchases!

ISawNannyPlumKissingSantaClaus · 02/01/2014 18:50

I work in mental health in the nhs- lovely hours but can be rubbishy work when you see more patients you know and like go back to the psychiatric intensive care or commit suicide :(

On a more positive note- I finish work on the 14th February and don't go back until April 6th!! I'm probably only going to do the mandatory 5 weeks after annual leave to get my enhanced maternity. Can't Afford to lose it really :(

ISawNannyPlumKissingSantaClaus · 02/01/2014 18:54

Oh and I caved into peer pressure and bought myself a huge tub of collagen enhancing sanctuary mum to be bump butter. Best be worth it for a tenner!!

Hezbean · 02/01/2014 19:17

NannyPlum my sister in law gave me some of that for Christmas - I put some on this morning, smells lovely. Hope it works!

PotatoPolly · 02/01/2014 19:21

ahh mrsmummy what colours did you go for?!

had the 20 week scan today and all is rosy, the baby is perfect and we saw so much it was quite alot to take in! time to relax now Smile oh and she confirmed the baby is a boy!

im training to be an accountant, will be working until about the middle of april and then going back part time I think Sad

had a rough couple of days being stupidly emotional... anyone else feel like they're on a hormonal roller coaster?

moominleigh94 · 02/01/2014 20:09

It's amazing stuff NannyPlum Grin

Yes to the emotional rollercoaster! I seem to spend most of my time crying lately Blush

mrsmummytobe · 02/01/2014 20:30

Potatopolly, we went for a dark grey base & sand coloured top. Thought that was neutral & we can use it again if we have a boy in the future.

ISawNannyPlumKissingSantaClaus · 02/01/2014 20:43

Mmmmm my bump feels yummy! It's massive though! (Bump not butter)

randdom · 02/01/2014 21:26

I work in healthcare. Am thinking about stopping in early April which is a bit earlier than I would like but I change rotations then and move on to a+e and the idea of doing that at 33/40 is not fun.

Irisheyessmiling · 02/01/2014 21:45

Had our fetal cardiac scan at the evelina hospital (amazing place, can't believe it's nhs!) today due to dh family history of holes in heart etc and all is FINE! I've been weirdly relaxed about it but nice to have it all confirmed ok and absolutely fascinating to watch

Interesting to see people's plans for mat leave. I'm a teacher so am going on mat leave 22nd April but will get the Easter hols beforehand without it coming out of allowance. I work in special needs with very challenging and complex needs so will be glad of the extra two weeks-struggling now running around after my class and bumps only going to get bigger. Will have to go back Jan 2015 when the money runs out as I have to pay back 13 weeks of mat leave but really don't want to! Will be looking for a new teaching post asap and hopefully go part time in next couple of years once dh is further up payscale (he's a teacher too). I figure at least when bubs old enough to remember I'll be around a bit more but not thrilled by going back to work. Hoping I just need a change of school as things are pretty stinky there!

MrsFooCough · 02/01/2014 22:09

Ohhh NannyPlum you'll get addicted. DH does this adorable thing every night where he rubs bump with that lovely stuff and whispers to Bean how excited he is to meet him/her Smile makes me well up! So cute!

I'm having a nervo over prams/car seats. We definitely need a car seat that has a decent pram it slots into, as MIL and her husband live up near Birmingham (as do all her siblings and their many many children/grandchildren) so we'll have a lot of travelling to do.
Went into Mothercare today as it's the only big place near here that sells prams etc and we were suggested the MaxiCosi Pebble (used with the FamilyFix base) but I'm confused over what pram system to buy to go with it. I know Mothercare's own brand prams work with it when used with adapters, but tbh I've played with the Orb (successor to the Spin apparently) and it seems a bit gimmicky. V smooth wheeling and nice suspension, but it's £300 for what seems like a pretty normal set-up, just with the easy reversible seat action, which isn't hugely needed really. I doubt I'll be mid-walk and decide the baby should be turned round THAT VERY INSTANT y'know?!

So long story short, DH and I are sold on the Pebble but does anyone else know of a really good pram system for it to go with? First timers here and we're a tad confused Confused

Mrsfoo we got the pebble car seat to go with the bugaboo. We got it free when we bought the pram.
