So pleased that you have good news Alyss, I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes a bit easier for you. Your little bundle is a wee fighter, must take after it's mummy!
It's really lovely to see good news and happy May Mums, well apart from all the glamorous symptoms! Smile

I haven't been posting much, but I do read the thread daily. I have been feeling really off colour recently, exhausted, lacking in energy, but suffering from insomnia. Turns out I am iron deficient, so on iron tablets now, hopefully they will help me to feel a bit better without giving me too many yucky side effects! I am another one who experienced the joys of piles this week Hmm, could hardly sit with how sore and uncomfortable they were! The doctor prescribed me xyloproct and that has definitely helped!

I'm sure my OH finds me positively delightful and attractive these days! HmmBlush

I feel bad as I have no symptoms now. I only had really bad nausea for the first 14-16 weeks then it tailed off. I have heartburn of an evening sometimes but dont really count that as a symptom as I just have a swig of gaviscon and its under control.

PixieBumbles · 17/01/2014 11:51

Wonderful news Alyss!!

I've used the pregnancy card at work this week. Some tenants of a commercial property we manage who are complete pains came into the office asking if we could remove a couple of rats who had been poisoned and also get up a ladder to clear out a gutter for them. I said I'd get a handyman out to which they replied "oh, well as they're just small jobs can't you just pop round and do it yourself?"

  1. Not my job (I'm not a jobsworth but a line has to be drawn somewhere!)
  2. My bump is quite large now. I am obviously pregnant. Do I really need to spell out why it's not really a good idea for a pregnant woman to handle poisoned vermin and climb ladders in the rain?!

I wouldn't have done it if I wasn't pregnant either, but the pregnancy gave me a perfect get-out!

MrsFooCough · 17/01/2014 14:13

Ha that's brilliant PixieBumbles I hope they thought a bit more carefully about their attitude! Unlikely though, there are dickheads everywhere innit Angry

Have def felt Bean wobbling around inside, speshly when I go to bed quite late and lie on my left side, bump sort of leans over a bit so I s'pose Bean falls down towards the bed so I feel him/her more! Very exciting Smile

Rescheduled anomaly scan is Sunday, hopefully LO will cooperate and face the ultrasound probe nicely! Poor scan technician was so embarrassed that she couldn't get every measurement!

Blimey pixie, you really shouldn't have to have played the pregnancy card for that one! Shock

dobedobedo · 17/01/2014 15:28

I'm trying to get to know what position the baby is in.

If I get lots of kicks low down, is it safe to assume that it is, in fact, kicks and the baby is in a head up position?

Also, right now I'm getting lots of kicks towards the back - I can almost feel them in my bum (tmi) it's kinda like I'm about to fart, but I don't. Does that mean the baby is facing backwards, towards my back?

Squiffie · 17/01/2014 16:15

Fantastic news Alyss I was coming to ask if anyone had heard anything as have been thinking of you! Good luck for a smoother 3rd trimester.

On the note of lady gardens DH has always been rather helpful (glad I'm not the only one).

Vikks 3rd time mum here and no boob leakage - just think some are more prone to it than others as I fed both to around 18/19 months!

I've not had to pull the pregnancy card yet thankfully but will if its necessary like to avoid a puddle on the floor.

My latest wonderful symptom is impromptu nosebleeds, not in least bit inconvenient or anything. Also STILL being sick, ffs, surely enough is enough now - 21+2.

Can't wait to finish work - my last shift will be Maundy Thursday, whatever date that is?!

I've got a repeat scan on Wednesday as there were one or two measurements they didn't get as baby was being so stubborn! My mum is coming with me - it'll be the first time she's ever been to an ultrasound!

Anyone else signed up to NCT? I did today, felt a bit pressured as the last classes before my EDD are March and they only had one slot left. It's £140ish which is a lot but my NHS antenatal classes aren't until 35, 36 and 37 weeks and I think I would like a bit more info before that. Got really annoyed with DH as I phoned him to ask about going and he moaned because the NCT ones are three consecutive Saturdays and he will miss some of the 6 Nations and anyway what's the point, we can just see how things go. I know that some people are happy to do that but I feel I want to be a bit better prepared, and also we don't know many other people living near us so thought it might help to meet some more mums and that might help me on mat leave as I am usually pretty shy and can find it hard to make friends. It's all very well for DH to say it's not necessary but he won't be the one having to go through labour and won't be at home with the baby either! Just makes me mad that he doesn't want to do things just cos it's too much effort. Anyway, rant over! Hope you all have a lovely weekend x

Minions · 17/01/2014 18:08

Hey wm I provisionally booked on a course yesterday! they seem to book fast so mine is a bit later than I would have liked. The NHS one is in the afternoon and although I officially could get the time off work it isn't convenient and DH wouldn't be able to go. Two types of NCT class that I could see, either 6 evenings weekly or two/three weekends. The weekend ones do feel like a lot of free time given up but wonder of 6nations is a cover story. A colleague dreaded going with his GF, thought he would hate it because of girly talk, role play etc but he loved it in the end. Maybe you DP is a bit apprehensive? If not & it really is about the rugby then time to get his butt in gear ;)

When you booked, did you do it online? I got an email to say I'm provisionally booked and that a second email would follow with a link to confirm and pay but I didn't get that one.

mumof2aimingfor4 · 17/01/2014 18:09

A lot of women gain friends from NCT groups. I personally am not one for them as in my area they seem a bit too stuck up for my liking! I prefer more down to earth mums that can have a laugh and not be judgemental. However I know several mums who still have contact with their NCT groupies, it is good if you dont know any other people that have/are having babies. Baby groups are a fab way to meet new mums, I take my own and the childminded kids to several different ones each week.
Your DP may just feel a bit uncomfortable about the situation, my OH is a fantastic dad but he's useless at being sociable in that kind of situation.

mrsmummytobe · 17/01/2014 18:38

Really good to see you on here alyss! So pleased for you Thanks

mumof2 I've been playing the I'm pregnant card. I've got one of those 'baby on board' badges for the tube so make sure I get a seat whenever I need it which is brilliant!

My boobs haven't started leaking but they continue to grow!! I started off as a 34d & now I'm apparently a 36f!!! I'm sure they will have gone up more by the time we need feeding bras. I'm sticking to soft cup non underwired as they are so much more comfy, even though they are now a bit lower than normal!

I've booked onto an nct course too!

impatientlywaiting · 17/01/2014 18:38

I've signed up to NCT classes. Doing them in March. I feel like I could get most info that they will tell me from the Internet or my sister, but I'm really hoping that I'll be able to meet people. I'm the first of my friends to be pregnant so don't know anyone who's pregnant at the moment.

bushprincess · 17/01/2014 18:43

sorry he's being a grump wm I'm sure he'll find it a good thing once you go - as minions says maybe he's just a bit nervous of what it'll entail - you know the comedy stereotype of roll playing couples and men being made to wear a fake 'bump'!

Hope you find them useful and meet some lovely people - no NCT here, but I've been going to ante-natal yoga classes and met a couple of other lovely girls who are also expecting their firsts so thats been great - and our yoga teacher is a doula too so it feels like we're getting a mini antenatal class each session!

MasterFlea · 17/01/2014 18:51

I had my mw checkup yesterday. I'm putting on a bit too much weight so next month will be scanned by the Doc to see how big baby is and she will decide if I need to be tested for gestational diabetes. So I'm off the sweets and junk for a while to see if that helps before the next check.

Babyflea is a very active flea. Sometimes not even waiting for me to sit down before bouncing around. MW was getting the doppler kicked away and she was dead chuffed. I would've thought all mws would be jaded after so many years of seeing pregnant bellies but she was delighted.

23 weeks but it feels like 33.

moobaloo · 17/01/2014 19:11

Ahhhh! I may be experiencing boob leakage!

When lying in bed I felt damp on my arm where my boob was resting and it turned out to be coming from my nipple! So weird! Is this normal with first baby?

Yay fab news Alyss!

22+4

LongTailedTit · 17/01/2014 19:12

MasterFlea lovely that your babyflea managed to make the midwife grin! Grin

Re NCT classes, we did them before DS and while our teacher was awful and there were no social events linked to it, all eight of us from that course still see each other on a regular basis. It was worth it's weight in gold for that alone.
One lady set up a Facebook group, so once all the babies had arrived we started tentative meet ups and have been in and out of each other's houses and a lot of local cafés ever since!
Lots of different personalities, so there's one lot of 3 that see each other a lot, another few that meet up a lot 1-1, and we all cross over too.

All my friends work or just live too far away - meeting other mums-to-be in the local area was massively helpful for me. My NCT lot are still my main mum friends nearly three years on.

Funny enough, at playgroups etc I've found the ones with mainly older mums more welcoming, and the ones with younger mums more cliquey - dunno why! There's always another group to try tho, so don't be put off if one doesn't suit, there'll be another nearby that'll be worth a shot.

ThistletoeAndWine · 17/01/2014 19:18

17 days into the new year and I'm on antibiotics for a chest infection!!

loopylou52 · 17/01/2014 20:38

Hope you're better soon thistle.

We've signed up to NCT classes too, starting at the end of March. We only get one 2-hour workshop on NHS.

randdom · 17/01/2014 20:47

I have booked NCT for the end of april/may it is for due dates at the end of may/early june. I am hoping that i find it useful :)

dobedobedo · 17/01/2014 20:55

Dh and I were just talking about the nct classes. I don't know if there's much point in joining. Other than meeting people, what do you get from joining?

MrsFooCough · 17/01/2014 21:47

No classes for us, we're not sure that it'll do us as a couple any real favours for birth/labour, and even if I were to meet lots of lovely people I wouldn't have any chance to meet up with them as I kind of HAVE to stay at home, little dog who can't be left alone and I have no car of my own. I'm at the mercy of no job, so no money, so no chance to use public transport, couldn't take the dog inside anywhere anyway, and she's a valuable breed so she can't be tied up outside either. I ARE TRAPPED
