good luck frouby and Daisie - envious of you both and hope they let you out liz

Well, so far nothing from the sweep, just aching and a few twinges. Really hoping for something to happen today but I doubt it now. Come on baby you are being so stubborn just like your dad

Going to bounce on my ball and then think about a walk after lunch, DH says he's coming home for lunch which is nice Smile

extracrunchy · 13/12/2013 12:57

Hi all! Fingers crossed for those waiting for movement post sweep. I'm getting done on Monday. Bit scared!

Hope Frouby and Dasie are getting on well. How are you feeling, Itsliz?

BohemianRaspberry · 13/12/2013 15:10

extra mine was quiet over night after sweep but I assure you he's back to jiving now! It's not great having a hand up your fouf but breathe slowly and deeply and think about cake.

Just walked over 2 miles to and around the duck pond - hoping to get something moving ... nothing so far ... naturally.

mumoftwoboysS · 13/12/2013 15:58

Sending 'contracting' vibes to those of you post-sweep and waiting! Any of you looked up nipple stimulation online?? I had a browse last night and tried it- got painful BH pretty much straight away!! It's not the erm erotic type, more of a gentle action and some people have said they went into labour the next day so maybe something to look into! (It's also good apparently if you're in labour then it stops- it can get it going again)

Two people I know have had babies today- so jealous!! Grr...

extracrunchy · 13/12/2013 16:00

Mumoftwo my MW recommended a quick go with the pump for the same reason so I might have a trial run tonight! Do you think it's possible I'll waste the colostrum though..?

itsliz · 13/12/2013 16:06

Thanks for the kind words ladies Smile
Had to be checked a few more times today and monitored on and off for three hours because they spotted a random drop in little one's movements. All ok now though and finally home safe and sound with a tonne of tablets to regulate my blood pressure.
Going to have a bath, have a nap and catch up on everyone's posts. I've never been so happy to see my own bed!

Quick question before I forget... Probably a stupid question but what exactly do contractions feel like? Vs period type pains? I was getting regular pains last night which felt like period pains but were more in the middle under my bump rather than at the sides, and they were rising and falling in the same way that I'm told contractions do...
Everyone says you'll know what contractions are when you get them, but I'm really starting to doubt that, haha!

Roselau · 13/12/2013 16:31

my turn to whine. 38+6 today and have still not been getting any signs at all. Whatever mild feeling I had the other day is completely gone and it was probably just my yoga pants being too tight. I look up on the internet and people say they start having pains / crampy feeling /lose plug weeks before they go into labour. I'm getting none of the above so I guess I'm still weeks away from starting labour. I walked for 3 hours yesterday and it did nothing. I'm ok waiting until my due date because that's the date I've had in my mind, but at this rate it feels like I will be pregnant for the rest of my life.

I really want her to arrive before my parents arrive. I am selfish and I don't want to share her. I wanted some alone time with her before the madness of the families visiting started, wanted to get my bearings, etc but I feel like I wont be able to - they will want to 'help' which is nice, but I want to first get to know my little girl even if it's hard, I don't want other people around other than my dh. I'm just so down today.

We have DH christmas party tonight. I have no idea what to wear. I will get the 'still pregnant?' questions and he works with a lot of very young clueless people that are the most inconsiderate to pregnant women. he really wants me to go so I can't say know - he's doing so much for me so I have to do this for him.

Sorry for the long rant. seems so weird to whine about feeling good and not feeling pain... I guess I have my ups and downs days and today is a real downer. :(

good luck to all of you that are about to meet your little ones. you are all doing fabulous. xx

Roselau · 13/12/2013 16:33

oh and i found a present for DH yesterday. i got him a new wallet and I put an ultrasound photo in it (that he can replace by a photo of her later) and i will put a nice note in it too.

Roselau · 13/12/2013 16:35

ok i'm looking up nipple stimulation mum. will give it a try and let you know how i get on :)

MummaDevon · 13/12/2013 16:46

did the nipple stimulation thing Mum and Rose on Saturday night and in the early hours of Sunday morning I had 4 contractions in a row every thirty mins, so painful it woke me up but it stopped and came to nothing :-(

mumoftwoboysS · 13/12/2013 16:55

extra you can't waste the colostrum- I wasn't sure about this till a friend of mine whist baby has a heart problem was told to express colostrum before the birth to store and apparently your milk won't come in till you give birth so before then the colostrum will keep on being produced.

Apparently it's the stimulation that mimics baby feeding that starts the contractions. Good luck rose hope it helps! I'll be trying it regularly after Sunday (when I turn 39wks)

its it's difficult to describe but I'd say they are more like strong period pains that radiate from your bottom, round your foof and up your bump. The stronger they get ther more they radiate from that point outwards through your body. I think it's fairly easy to recognise contractions but the tricky part is figuring out if you're in established labour- i.e. regular contractions (usually) close together- as I found out mine weren't that regular but I was in quite advanced labour!

I think so far I've had a mixture of practice (BH) ones and ra ones (really quite intense and painful) but not lots and not regular.

mumoftwoboysS · 13/12/2013 16:56

Ra ones? Meant 'real'

mumoftwoboysS · 13/12/2013 16:58

mumma yeah I had that- some really painful ones then nothing- so it works but not sure how to kick start labour with it! Maybe it only works if your body is truly ready. Some techniques I read said to do it for 15 mins 4x a day from 38 weeks but like I said not sure if it's work!

froubylou · 13/12/2013 19:58

Evening all.

Bit spaced out so not read through everything so apologies if I missed anything.

Byt just to let you know Sebastian Thomas was born today at 11.21am. He weighs 7lb and 6ox and is bloody gorgeous.

Catch up properly tomorrow. Xxxx

kchapper5 · 13/12/2013 21:26

Congratulations frouby love the name Sebastian but dp says no :( hope your ok xxx

Stom91 · 13/12/2013 21:33

Congratulations frouby enjoy the snuggles

rose if it's any consolation I'm exactly the same!
I feel like I'm going to be pregnant forever at this rate. Been bouncing on my ball but not sure if it's making any difference. Dp predicted that dd will be born tomorrow (14th) he's despitely hoping to be right. But with the way things are at the mo I don't think DD will be making an appareance anytime soon.
I don't see my mw until the 19th I'm hoping she'll do a sweep but hen I'm really scared about having one as they sound painful and I find vaginal exams really painful as it is.
I kinda want dp to come with me just incase she does one but I know he can't get off work.

Hope you're feeling better soon and glad you found him a nice gift :)

lisbapalea · 13/12/2013 21:52

Yay - congrats Frouby! Lovely name - was on my list until I realised it would give initials of STD for the poor child with our middle name choice and surname!

Am slumped on the sofa after a pretty hetic day. Mum and I took DD for lunch and to the cinema as a pre-baby treat. If anyone has time to kill and doesn't mind Disney schmalz, I can recommend Frozen! Even better when watching with an enthusiastic 3y.o.! Mind you, letting her eat a tub of chocolate ice cream in the dark was a bit of a gamble, and not a pretty outcome!

Have spent this evening cooking loads of food for this weekend, marzipanning the Christmas cake so I can ice it on Monday, and doing a last blast of online shopping.

I have 3 days left of 'freedom' before the elcs on Tuesday - can't wait to hear Frouby's news of how it all went so I can know what to expect (my memories of having DD are a bit hazy).

Good luck to all those stimunalting nipples and having sweeps - let's hope this weekend brings forth lots of December babies!

lisbapalea · 13/12/2013 21:53

Oh, does anyone have a tight feeling in their calves? I assume this is water retention and nothing more nasty. They don't feel itchy and to be honest I don't think they even look more bloated (fat?) than usual, but I notice if I crouch down that they feel tight.

Just wondered if anyone else had anything similar?

MummaDevon · 13/12/2013 22:01

Congratulations Frouby x

mumoftwoboysS · 13/12/2013 22:44

Many congrats frouby!!

Had quite a few really painful contractions earlier but not regular and now stopped! Not sure if labour is hours or days away- argh!!...

Roselau · 13/12/2013 23:20

lis i've had that feeling in my calves for weeks. some people say it's lack of magnesium but the reality is no one really knows (even doctor) what it's from - very common in pregnancy though. I wouldn't worry UNLESS you have bloated ankles or other symptoms. Stretch them at night before you go to bed is all the advice i can offer. they do wake me up once in a while and i have to get up and walk it off. my dh is so sweet he gets up with me and walks around the dining room table with me until the cramp goes away.

stom i'm hanging a teensy weeny bit of hope on the full moon next week - let's hope it does it for the two of us. at least to start something!

extracrunchy · 14/12/2013 00:14

Congratulations, Frouby!!

froubylou · 14/12/2013 01:01

Lisb it was a fantastic experience. One of the best adrenaline rushes I have ever had.

It was different to how I remembered with DD 9 years ago. Or maybe it is me that has changed?

Most painful bit was canula in back of hand. Spinal block felt a bit of a sting is all.

It was amazing seeing him over the screen whilst still attached. They left cord pumping for a few minutes then cut it to pass hom to me. Had a good 20 mins skin to skin in theatre while they stitched me back up. Had him latched on beautifully in recovery and back on delivery suite after about an hour.

Left theatre at about 12.30 and have been for a little walk to bathroom at about 8pm. Still got catheter in but that coming out at 4am apparently.

Pain levels aren't too bad at all. And loss is reasonable. If there is anything else you want to know just shout up.

5ammy · 14/12/2013 01:23

Tues night at 40+ 2consultant offered me a sweep because she had 'magic hands', but said if she didn't hurt it wouldn't work. It hurt (they don't normally, it was my 3rd sweep).

Weds night I had a bit of brown blood and thick discharge with a bit of blood.

Thurs morning woke up with contractions - they carried on and ranged for 10-20 minutes apart.

Friday afternoon - exhausted managed a nap as contractions weren't following a strict pattern and were still in the 10-30 minute range. Woke up and went for a walk - contractions got to 8 mins apart by early evening. DH dropped kids at baby sittes - wen he got back from the 30 minute journey contractions were 3 mins apart.

Got to hospital and was 4 cm dilated.

Sadly needed to be permanently monitored - no pool allowed, no active labour, nothing (I'm high risk). So decided to go for epidural.

Epidural didn't initially work and was at 8cm before try managed to stop the pain) - am now quite comfy. With G&A.

Looks like baby will be born before morning.

extracrunchy · 14/12/2013 01:59

Ooh 5ammy hope it's going well!
