Ladies I think we need a new festive thread to take us through to the end of the year. And as it will be me to sneeze next –how did it get around to my turn so quickly???-- I thought I would do the honours.

10 working days left!!! Woohoo!! That positivity will last until the birth lovely. Are you still practicing?

What size bag did you go for in the end? Glad you got it all done. And finances sorted too! Very productive indeed Smile

Solars · 19/01/2014 18:35

Woohoo to 10 days indeed!! I'm sure it'll go quickly!

Yes trying to practice still but I'm going to drop in to a few classes too so hopefully that will help! I've used a wheelie case which is the size of a carry on when flying if that makes sense.

Fox82 · 19/01/2014 20:38

Wow 10 days maybe?! Not long at all!

We've had a lovely anniversary thanks Smile Due date is now 26th July so I suppose I'm now 13+2 Smile

SantaMaybe · 19/01/2014 20:46

Ah, a lovely time of year Fox!! It's always good gaining a few days Wink glad you've had a lovely anniversary. What did you do?

Solars that's good you can drop into some classes. Our teacher here is great, I'm going for lunch with her when I'm on mat leave. She is a doula as well, so has soapy handy hints and tips.

A wheelie case is sensible. I have a big weekend bag that I'm hoping to fit everything in....

Fox82 · 19/01/2014 21:04

Thanks maybe. We haven't done too much for our anniversary - we returned to our wedding venue and took a couple of photos, and we went for a meal tonight Smile We also popped to the shops and bought a couple of bits of maternity clothes, plus our first baby purchase - a little pack of vests with animals on Grin

SantaMaybe · 19/01/2014 22:18

Ah, that's so lovely Fox! Sounds like a perfect day to me Smile

Stacks · 20/01/2014 10:51

Checking back in, again. Off to read the thread :)

Stacks · 20/01/2014 11:17

Fox so glad you had a good scan, and happy anniversary. Your exactly a month after my EDD - we're 26th June.

Maybe are you counting down the days to finishing work? Hope things have got easier for you recently.

Solars you're very organised having your bag packed, I did mine very last minute. I found it hard to feel like I really was going to have a baby, even when I was overdue. Feeling the same about this little tadpole too.

Not sure how far along I am now, 17w or so. I've changed dr surgery as I was getting fed up with the thyroid care. Found out the other day that the dr I'd been seeing (who's done everything wrong) is the thyroid 'specialist' at that surgery!
Need to call my midwife today though, been in agony over the weekend. The op site from my bowel resection hurts at the lightest touch or when I do anything at all. It was a cut right through my stomach muscles, so I'm worried it might be the start of a hernia or tear :( I didn't have problems with it with DS, even late in the pg, but I guess it might have been weakened. Shall see what they say, but I'm not sure there'll be anything they can do..

Solars · 20/01/2014 11:35

Oh gosh Stacks that sounds awful! I hope you can get seen to/maybe referred to quickly. That is terrible luck with the thyroid specialist but hopefully your new gp will be able to push things in the right direction for you.

Happy Anniversary Fox sounds like a lovely day.

Maybe can't wait to hear about these soapy handy hints and tips Grin

SantaMaybe · 20/01/2014 13:24

That sounds nasty Stacks. Hope the MW can be of some help. You poor thing.

Solars I fear my imps fingers have reared their ugly head Grin

Bumpiemalumpie · 20/01/2014 16:54

Hello all,

glad we are all ok!!

feeling large but less puffy today. I will post a pick of my puffy feet on Feb!! not fun but as I am now on ml I feel they are better.

Anyone got any nappy suggestions?!

SantaMaybe · 20/01/2014 17:06

Yes to maternity leave Bumpie!!

Are you going down the disposable or cloth route?

Bumpiemalumpie · 20/01/2014 17:22

I did want to use cloth but am going to start off with disposable?!

Stacks · 20/01/2014 18:48

We used the pampers(?) nappies with the 'wet indicator' on, ended up changing DS every 10 minutes whenever he got wet! Probably a waste of money (in more ways than one) but otherwise they were fine. The Lidl own brand nappies won the mn award last year I think, or maybe the year before. We've used those for DS too, but only when he was a bit older. Again, they were fine and dandy. Also used the Natur bio nappy ones, which are lovely and soft to the touch and good for the environment (less good for your wallet) which you can buy in boots or online from amazon etc.

My recommendation would probably be to buy a small pack of whatever nappies you decide you want to try though, as different nappies got different babies (same with cloth!). They can have skinny little legs and fat tummies, or vice versa, and nappies one person swears by will leak terribly for someone else.

When you try out cloth, look for a nappy library near you, or at somewhere like www.fillyourpants.com for trial packs. Fill your pants do a cloth set you can try for £10 (you pay £110, they refund you £100 when you send them back). Also look at www.thenappylady.com, she gives tailored advice by email for what nappies should fit your particular circumstances, and has good prices through her site too.

keepitgoing · 20/01/2014 19:03

we are using pampers new baby, with the wetness indicator, but they are great and you don't have to change them for one wee. she does 12hrs overnight in one and it still doesn't feel wet, just big. we had planned to use reusables after Xmas but not got round to it. plus a friend using them is not impressed despite having bought loads. they leak quite easily and feel wet. we are using disposable wipes.

try amazon family for discounts on nappies.

SantaMaybe · 20/01/2014 19:12

The thing is with cloth, you really have to do your research. We are hiring a newborn set from the nappy lady, and I have been stocking up on lots of different brands (some are pre loved) so we can try different ones before buying a whole load of one type. We will be using reusable wipes too.

People rave about aldi's nappies. The Emma's diary packs have trial packs in them too.

SweetieTime · 20/01/2014 19:26

We use hundreds of pampers new baby too. We buy them on repeat order from Amazon too. We had bought some ASDA own but they are rubbish, they leak and seemed to cause nappy rash. Twins are both very different shapes (E is pot bellied and chunky and F is long and lean with skinny legs) but these seem to do for both.

fox great news about due date being closer. Happy anniversary. Sounds like a great way to celebrate.

maybe won't be long until you are finished work. I bet you can't wait.

Re: Nappies. With ds I used pampers new baby at the start then moved on asda. Had no leaks. However, as he grew his body shape changed a bit so ended up back on pampers for a while, now we use a mix of pampers and asda nappies. My auntie used Tesco nappies although they didn't suit ds.

Was at asda today, was hoping to pick up a few bargains. However, there was nothing special in it and all there great deals was only really a pound or two off. So bit disappointed.

I have become a complete eBay addict and cannot stop buying baby clothes. I'm constantly on looking and buying loads.

Have been picking up a few bits and pieces for hospital bag. Just need a bag now to start throwing them all in.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 21/01/2014 10:53

Hello all!

Stacks, you poor thing, that sounds terrible! I hope your MW gets back to you quickly. If not, perhaps a trip to the GP would be in order. Sad

I don't feel very convinced that I'm really going to have a baby this time either. Last time round I did feel like this but then bonded with the tadpole v quickly when we got the scary nuchal results. Maybe when it's a bit bigger I'll feel more convinced!

Fox, ooh, we are v close together then! My due date is 23 July and I'm 13+6. Yay for getting your nuchal results back so quickly!

Nappies: we use whatever happens to be on offer in Tesco. Usually Pampers but Huggies are also fine. Lidl nappies worked just as well when we had them but it's not as convenient to go to Lidl so we don't have them often. I have considered trying cloth ones but I know perfectly well I wouldn't keep on top of the washing and would wind up with a tub of festering pooey nappies in a corner somewhere.

Not much to report here! Still haven't got my nuchal results back, grr, but I'm working on the basis that no news is good news, given that last time they phoned me very quickly to tell me the bad news. The scan was 2 weeks ago today so I'm sure they would have phoned by now. I texted my MW on the day of the appt to tell her my official due date so she could refer me to the consultant and arrange a 16 week appt with me and she hasn't answered either, double grr! I'm working from home tomorrow so I might phone to chase her then. I also need to book a flu jab. Maybe it will help with the constant colds I've been getting. DD has had cold after cold - this is her (and my) 4th since early Dec. Normally I don't catch them from her but clearly pregnancy is having a bad effect on my immune system.

Fox82 · 21/01/2014 11:29

Wow I didn't realise we were due so close together Too! I think hope this is all going to feel real when I get a bump and can feel the baby moving Smile I think I'll then be heading to eBay for some bargains like you pen Smile

I was very lucky with my nuchal results - my scan was on the Thursday and my results came in the post on the Saturday! They said they'd call me within 2 days if there was anything to discuss, but otherwise to expect the results in the post within a week. So I'm sure your results must be fine! Although sounds like the letter might have got lost in the post so may be worth phoning for the results, just to put your mind at rest?

Hope you got some joy from the midwife yesterday stacks - sounds like agony you poor thing.

Got my date through for 20 week scan - March 10th. Doesn't seem too long away! It's hard to believe that by then I'll be properly pregnant with a proper bump like the women waiting for their 20 week scans when I was there for my 12 week one! Smile

Bumpiemalumpie · 21/01/2014 17:23

Hello all, can I ask a tmi question -

if you are getting proper contractions, does it hurt to wee??

sorry Blush

EverythingIsTicketyBoo · 21/01/2014 17:38

You all dropped off my threads, marking place for a good read back later

Bumpie I've never had that, I don't remember weeing being an issue in labour, what exactly are you feeling?

Bumpiemalumpie · 21/01/2014 18:34
