extracrunchy they gave me a sweep at 38+1 because of my spd...worth asking and see what they say...I'm now wondering what they will do as i'm booked infor induction on Friday now, if they will go for the pessary first as you should walk around when you have it but I can barely walk to the loo! Also lost my mucus plug (yum) and the period type pains I've been having are getting more frequent and intense but I don't know if they are contractions! I used to get bad period pain before I was pregnant, to the point where I passed out once! So not sure if these are a sign of things moving.

I'd definitely ask though...they can only say no, and given your circumstances they will probably understand x

Chelsealady · 27/11/2013 17:22

Rose normally when I get cramp without a tightening its wind or constipation! Sorry (tmi)

Roselau · 27/11/2013 17:45

chelsea yeah that's what I'm thinking but I don't have either (all well on that front...) so I'm a bit puzzled. Now I just get twinges for the moment but not the same cramps. I'll monitor the situation. Off to yoga!

mumoftwoboysS · 27/11/2013 18:09

For those of you who wished me luck- thanks and all is ok- lump is benign Smile now I can relax, enjoy the rest of my pregnancy and start worrying look forward to the birth!

missRatty that sure does sound like labour! Keep an eye on the frequency as that'll indicate if at real labour- if the intervals between get shorter and they get more painful.

I might try and get a sweep at 38 weeks then! Have had mild SPD is that enough??

I haven't had experiences like those of you with a-holes walking out on you but have so much respect for anyone who recognises a shit relationship/partner and can move on as having the strength to to do that and move on is the hardest bit. I've kissed a few too many frogs and been in crap/meh relationships but nothing involving kids which must make it so much harder. And like Rose says Chelsea someone worthy of you will come along so hang in there

Alyssa1978 · 27/11/2013 18:17

Ooh chilli exciting. Is it wrong that I'm jealous you got someone to stick there fingers up your fanjo? Lol Confused

Mw phoned me this morning and told me I have a uti and I've been to pick up my antibiotics, so now I'm all sad thinking that the pressure down there and what I assumed was my plug coming away was in fact symptoms of a uti Sad however I do know the inference between a babies head pushing down and a uti so I'm not too sure. I guess I haven't got that long to go now and should be patient Hmm

rose I'm not too sure to be honest, my confidence on such matters has now taken a knock after I was adamant that I didn't have a uti and I was convinced my cramps were labour starting soon Blush
I do know however with ds2 I had period type cramps with no tightening at the beginning of labour so you never know, I think everybody is different Hun.

missratty this Friday? It's all going on soon its getting very exciting

Alyssa1978 · 27/11/2013 18:20

That must be a massive weight of your mind mum

missratty just re read your post and have to agree with mum sounds a lot like labour Smile

extracrunchy · 27/11/2013 18:35

Mum that's brilliant news Smile

Missratty and Chilli how severe was your SPD? I've been on cocodamol and physio since about 32 weeks but no crutches or anything. Just no sleep and constant pain that makes me want to cry! Will definitely ask anyway.

extracrunchy · 27/11/2013 18:36

Also Missratty that definitely sounds like labour starting!!

Dusty04 · 27/11/2013 19:08

I haven't posted for ages so trying to catch up with everything! I officially finished work today so hopefully I'll have more time to read!

I've been totally spoilt, my house resembles a florist and we have so many cards, gifts and vouchers! I have very generous colleagues (and Uni students) :)

Now, time to catch up!

MissRatty · 27/11/2013 20:04

Aaaagh! Exciting! And sore. I'll try to time them but part of me is hoping it is real labour, as if it's not, I am going to be in agony for the real thing. I'm starting to wonder if its wind or poo! But it is pretty painful :-(

My SPD is quite bad, but some days is better than others. A day of rest seems to help, but then I seem to overcompensate afterwards and end up bad again. Its definitely worth asking!

Chilli81 · 27/11/2013 20:56

extracrunchy i don't think my spd had anything to do with the sweep. in fact the appt with the consultant was to discuss birth options as I had a third degree year last time and had seen two different registrars with differing advice so had asked to see the consultant. she was the one that offered when she realised I was almost 39 weeks.
I phoned the midwife triage unit about an hour ago as I had been getting bright red blood rather than brown (which the consultant had said I might get). the midwife on the phone was really annoying almost telling me off for having had a sweep before 40 weeks. it was a consultant who had offered it to me and anyway I wasn't asking her for permission after the event. Angry

anyway have been getting sporadic cramps but could be wind.
can remember who was asking but I don't remember getting tightening as such last time. I never had any bh. from what I remember I just felt period like pains that just got stronger and stronger and closer together.

Chilli81 · 27/11/2013 21:01

funnily enough my spd had got better since lo has moved down. like missratty though I think I've learnt to just do less as I definitely pay for it if I do too much.

Okay I sound stupid but what is SPD and what do they do when you have a sweep. Embarrassed that I have no idea!!

extracrunchy · 27/11/2013 21:38

By the way does anyone have any experience taking oil of evening primrose towards the end of pregnancy? MIL is recommending it to encourage cervix to efface and bring things on sooner - I'm worried messing with natural progression of things is unwise but she says lots of people take it..?? Does it work?!

Roselau · 27/11/2013 21:41

well I had another one (period cramp), but then did a yoga class and all good since then. so I'm thinking something was probably just stuck and I needed to stretch it... not getting overly excited. I still have a few weeks of moaning for this baby to come out :)

Alyssa that sucks for the UTI! ugh they are so uncomfortable, and on top of being pregnant I can't even imagine.

chelsea dont feel bad, I'm not 100% sure either. I think SPD is a form of pelvic pain due to an inflammation of your pelvic joints (brought on by pregnancy). I don't know what the sweep does tbh.

extracrunchy · 27/11/2013 21:44

Chelsea SPD is symphysis pubis dysfunction, related to pelvic girdle pain (PGP) but not the same - joints move too far apart or misalign because of hormones in pregnancy and it BLOODY HURTS. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symphysis_pubis_dysfunction

A sweep is an internal procedure where a MW sweeps a finger around the inside of the cervix to gently separate the membranes - it can help being labour on but isn't fail safe.

extracrunchy · 27/11/2013 21:46

Bring labour on obv! www.nhslocal.nhs.uk/story/features/membrane-sweeps-and-inductions

Chelsealady · 27/11/2013 21:50

Well i finally know! Been reading about some of you with the SPD and sounds really painful:( how horrid.

The first time i ever heard someone talk about a sleep was only a few weeks ago. Shows how much i know how awful do i sound!!!

Chilli81 · 27/11/2013 22:30

Chelsea i didn't know what either of those or many more things were until I got pregnant so don't feel bad. to be honest if we knew all the nitty gritty we probably wouldn't do it!

extracrunchy · 27/11/2013 22:50

Not awful! Probably sensible to avoid tmi..!

froubylou · 28/11/2013 06:10

Morning campers!

Chilli I am shocked at how little I knew last time I was pregnant lol. This was 9 years ago before everyone had t'internet etc and I managed with the book you got at docs when you checked in and Emma's Diary lol.

Know a lot more now and to be honest I wish I could unknow some stuff!

Have been awake since 4.30am, gave up and got up with DP at 5.15. Just washed a load of baby clothes (again) and then I think I am going to start cleaning. If I get it all done I can sneak off back to bed for a couple of hours later lol.

My car is properly dead. Sigh. Just when I really need it FFS. Mechanic coming for it on saturday morning and depending how poorly it is I may have it back early next week. Could do without the cost just before christmas so if it's more than a couple of hundred quid it will have to wait until afterwards. Won't exactly be rallying around post c section anyway!

Had a pop at my friend yesterday. Seems to have worked wonders lol. She is calling in everyday my OH is working to help me get downstairs with baby if I need her. And has pampered my 2 ponies for me yesterday for me. Surprising what a pregnant rant about selfish, thoughtless bastards can do and how they can all just fook right off next time they need something. Think that it worked a treat. And I should bloody think so too lol.

Seen a new house I am thinking about looking at. Its on a brand new estate and is via one of the housing associations. One of these 'affordable social housing' schemes that they have to include in all new developments to get planning permission. Its about 4 miles from where I live now so would be a new school for DD. And I don't have any family or friends who live that way, they all live this side of town. Added to that the ponies are this side too. But the houses look loverly! Especially after we have been in a 100 year old terrace for 7 years that is (mainly) kept together with no nails and a prayer lol. My landlord is nice but a typical landlord in that he does the minimum amount of work he can get away with.

But the rent on the new house would actually be more than what we pay here! Even though it is social housing. Figure that one out. I have had my name down on all the lists for the last 9 years and never got anywhere with it but have been told by my auntie (who works in the council housing dept) that I match all the criteria laid down and should apply for one.

Dunno what to do now though. On the one hand it would be everso nice to have a brand spanking new house in the middle of a nice new 'village' estate. On the other hand I like the village we are in now. Cost wise heating this place through the winter will balance out the extra rent on the new house, but I don't know if I want to move with a newborn, and be away from friends and family. Plus DD will have to change schools and the new school isn't close enough for her to walk home on her own if I get stuck which she does at the moment (shes in year 5 and no roads or anything).

Got until Monday to think about it so going to have a mull over the weekend. Thats unless I go into labour first lol. Am 37 weeks tomorrow!

Who was it yesterday who had reduced movement and was worrying? Was it Bohemian? Hope all OK. And hope that anyone who is having cramps either has a big poo or gets some progression. Pants about the UTI Alyssa, but brill about your lumps Mum!

Off to fold (and sniff) baby grows now lol.

13loki · 28/11/2013 07:26

Morning. Really think that at 3, DD should be big enough to walk herself to childminder. Meant to leave in 5 minutes, I still don't have socks on (winter boots and socks is at least an 8 minute job).

Midwife later today, I really didn't think I'd be going to this one, no matter how much I tried to convince myself that I shouldn't expect baby until 42 weeks, it didn't work. 39+4 today.

frouby I hate moving (says the woman who has moved 9 times in the last 11 years.)

Alyssa1978 · 28/11/2013 07:45

loki the more pregnant you get the more I think mines gonna last too, I'm behind you at 39+3 and I thought we would both have had babies by now.

frouby I had the reduced movements yesterday, I'd only felt one in nearly 13 hours but as soon as I phoned he started to roll the hell outta me Hmm so I just left it, he was like the alien I was just waiting for him to burst through my stomach Wink I hope you get your car sorted with the minimum amount of money involved Hun.

rose and frouby the uti does indeed suck balls Grin at least now I know that all the cramping etc was down to the uti. I hate antibiotics, the last time I had them I had loose poos for over a month something else I really don't need/want going into labour Sad

Glad you felt better after your yoga rose

missratty how are you this morning Hun?

chilli how's you doing now? If the mw wants to yell at someone she should yell at the consultant who did the sweep.
I thought last time I had one at 39 weeks but my dp says it was just over 38 weeks. I think it depends on the mw etc, the one I've got now has no kids so does not get how uncomfortable this is near the end and won't do one until 40+3 but the mw who gave me the sweep with ds2 had 4 kids lol so I think she was symphathetic of what I was going through lol.

Sherbet27 · 28/11/2013 08:07

I haven't wrote on here for a long time only just managed to catch up :)

I'm now 37+3, I have been having so many infrequent braxton hicks with occasional period type pains. Sometimes they come every 5-20 minutes. They never seem to progress longer than a few hours which is frustrating!

How are you all feeling today?
