So sorry for yours and dps loss whisper, sending hugs your way.

Good luck tomorrow feather, so excited for you! Hope it all goes well and can't wait to see piccies Smile
I will give those flapjacks a go!

Hi geppa, congrats on getting your date. I'm due on the 10th so we could be pretty close together.

Nom I should've mentioned that I'm wheat intolerant so have to source or make a lot of carbi foods. You can get wheat free bran flakes but they are ridiculously expensive so I've been avoiding them so far.
Can you recommend a sling that's best for back support? I have an old upper back injury that can be set off easily but love the idea of a sling.

Hope you're tests went ok in the end mum and you get a good result.

Great news on both fronts loki, very jealous of your lack of weight gain and fabulous mat/pat leave. Dp feels discriminated against about how little pat leave men get in Britain, it's really unfair for the blokes.

Thanks pistachio will have to invest in one of those nets.

Congratulations claire . . . and bloody hell I'm going to eat as much fibre as is humanly possible!! Sod the aforementioned extortionate bran flakes, they now seem like a worth while investment! Grin

Gosh mum that's interesting about the BH. Don't think I can be of much practical help but I've been getting them since around 22 weeks and feels like I get them all day everyday. Easily more than 4 an hour a lot of the time. They never hurt or ache though, just really tight and lump up in places.

My mum and aunty came over today to bring a load of hand-me-down baby bits that people have been dropping off at hers. She also brought tons of knitted cardis, jumpers, booties and hats that her and my nan have been making and I'm so chuffed, they're all lovely. We haven't got the money to buy any special clothes for bumps so I'm really touched that they've done this for us.
My aunty was a childminder for years and so it was like having a personal shopper going around mothercare. She's explained so much to me that I was overwhelmed by, like how to put baby to bed for instance. Sounds stupid but I've never even seen a baby in a crib so had no idea how to swaddle or what i needed to buy.
Finally got a travel system too (not leaving things til the last minute or anything!) A bargain at £90 and seems to do the same/be as good quality as the superduper designer ones. www.mothercare.com/Joie-Muze-Pushchair-Travel-System---Charcoal/650701,default,pd.html Just not as pretty I guess.

Jeez, sorry for long post! Loving the rant lists! Smile

meandbumpy · 20/11/2013 21:08

Lol, where did this Tardis come from!?

NomDeClavier · 20/11/2013 21:19

Sling post!

mum I’m not a guru, I just loooove slings and where we lived a pram was just totally unusable so carrying was the best option.

chelsea I’ve never fallen with DS, but I know people who have fallen while babywearing and they mostly report directing the fall away from the baby, just like you would if you’re pregnant or if you slip while carrying a baby in your arms In those cases a wrap type sling is actually much safer than a baby bjorn or similar because baby has so many layers of fabric holding them against your body and they’re in a really natural position so the impact of any shock is minimised. So please don’t be put off slings because you don’t think they’re secure.

alyssa is it like a hammock type thing? If so, avoid having baby lying down in it flat – they should be cradled slightly upright. I have to say like loki I never got on with pouch type slings, but I love ring slings.

feather stretchies are ideal for newborns. Tips would be:

Tie tighter than you think you need to – the give in the fabric will accommodate the baby.
Start off with legs froggied up and in, never force the knees apart round you
Watch a few youtube videos - is good and is in French but it really shows correct positioning with a transparenty sling

pistachio a few questions:
Who will use it?
When will you use it?
From what age? Up to what age?
Why do you want a sling?
What’s your budget?
Are you fazed by the idea of lots of fabric?
Do you want a sling that can be used in multiple positions?
How important is it that you can adjust it easily while wearing?

mumWas it a slightly stretchy one that you could pre-tie and pop baby in or a woven you had to tie round you? Stretchies I really like JPMBB (je porte mon bebe) but also Kari-me and Moby wraps. Beware of fake mobys though. I have my own favourite brands for wovens and there are just as many people who will disagree with me and there are great cheaper alternatives like Lenny Lamb. Personally I rate Didymos, Natibaby and Neobulle. I would try to buy second hand because someone will have gone to the trouble of breaking it in for you. I’ve tried most fabric blends, pure cotton and cotton/linen are easiest to care for. Wool and silk blends are lovely to wrap with, silk especially but a bitch to care for. I’ve never tried bamboo but it gets good reviews. babybjorns are evil

And not related to slings.

cherry I had DS 2 days after having a sweep but I reckon he was ready anyway so whether the sweep helped or not I’ve no idea. Sounds exciting! Good luck!

Roselau · 20/11/2013 21:32

haven't caught up on everything yet

thanks chilli yeah we're going with AirBnb. We've found some reasonable places (in my mind) that look decent and decent location for less than £100 a night. you would never get a hotel for that price. but obviously if she decided to stay 6 weeks it adds up... that's going to be one expensive stay! I'm not sure what she was thinking.

feather yeah, they said that it got delayed more. instead of arriving at the port on the 22nd, it's arriving on the 26th. so really a pain because thanksgiving is the 28th so they wont start processing until the following monday which is dec 2nd.

I'm trying to stay zen. had just a few hours sleep last night but forced myself to go to yoga and that always makes me feel a bit better.

I LOVE the lists. they make me laugh so much because I agree with everything. I laughed this morning when I started reading (I think it was bohemian's and btw hurrah on the heating being fixed!), and DP was like 'awww all you guys are suffering - not long to go!' and it just made me laugh because that's exactly what was on the list. Stop telling me not long to go, 4 weeks is an eternity!!

Roselau · 20/11/2013 21:33

oh and feather good luck tomorrow!!! xx

NomDeClavier · 20/11/2013 21:35

mean where in your upper back is the problem? You want good weight distribution over your shoulders and taking most of the weight on your hips, which is going to mean one of the long fabric wraps and probably a woven over a stretchy or a mei tei. A rucksack style soft structured carrier (ergo, manducca etc) probably won't be good for front carries but if you want to continue carrying past 6 months or so they can be used on your back with fewer problems than the hiking style baby carriers.

I would avoid a pouch, a ring sling, any baby bjorn style carrier that doesn't have lumbar support or that does and locks you into a straightjacket!

Alyssa1978 · 20/11/2013 22:05

Yes nom for a newborn it looks a bit like a hammock when I put it on. Thanks for the tip, ill make sure to put baby a bit upright xx

Roselau · 20/11/2013 22:14

mum (im not done catching up so im assuming others have responded)
I've been getting intense BH on and off for 4 weeks now. Dr said that if more than 6 an hour I should call. But tbh, as long as they are not regular, I have tried to not freak out (definitely had more than 6 an hour a few times). some of them are starting to get accompanied by period pain. I find that if I change position, often they will go away. But I would say if it lasts for more than an hour and you get one every 10 mins or so you need to get checked - wasn't it you who had a super quick labour last time?

Alyssa1978 · 20/11/2013 23:23

Just wanna say another big good luck tomorrow feather before I attempt to get some sleep. Damn cramps are back.

Night all xx

extracrunchy · 21/11/2013 00:03

Clare congratulations!!! Hope everything's lovely with your new little girl.

Alyssa that is hilarious about the fruit shoot! How are your pains? I'm still having mine but nothing regular and no fluid so just going to relax for now. And Nom, how are yours??

Cherry I have pretty severe SPD - were they giving you the sweep at 37wks because of the SPD or other stuff? I was wondering if it was common practice to help a bit earlier with SPD as I honestly have no idea how I'm going to get through another 6 weeks of it with DS etc.

Feather loads of luck for tomorrow. Hope you're fast asleep!

Featherbag · 21/11/2013 00:10

Eek, I'm having a baby today! Better try to get some sleep, thanks so much for the good luck wishes, we've kept it hush-hush in RL so apart from immediate family you guys are the only ones who know! Will update when I can xx

Stom91 · 21/11/2013 01:07

Good luck feather!!!

I don't think there are many of us left to pop! There's been so many babies arrived already!

BohemianRaspberry · 21/11/2013 06:26

Good luck feather! Thinking of you.

I'm counting kick this am as he has suddenly gone quiet - hopefully he's just knackered from me tossing and turning all night. Tardis for fun

thecherryontop · 21/11/2013 06:59

Good Luck feather Grin

Extra crunchy -had sweep because last 2 wks Have been fresh hell with spd -was already on crutches & had brace but the pain at night was just hell. -dr said he would prefer to sweep rather than induce as natural is always best ...

Have had bad period pains off and on all night -should prob start monitoring times but been trying to sleep as much as poss.

Featherbag · 21/11/2013 07:15

SPD's a shit isn't it cherry? That's why my section was brought forward, it should've been next Thursday but I begged!

Well, all ready for the off, another 5 minutes then will supervise DH loading car, then wake sleepy DS and set off! Have called delivery suite and we're good to go, have to be there in an hour

meandbumpy · 21/11/2013 07:27

Good luckfeather! Hope everything goes perfectly for you, you'll be having cuddles in no time Thanks

nom my injury runs along my upper spine and shoulder blade and flares up if I do a lot of lifting or in cold weather. Thank you for the recommendations, will look at those makes today as not familiar with them. Soglad to have people on hand that actually know what they're doing babywise!

Alyssa1978 · 21/11/2013 08:14

feather ooh you should be there now I think? Another good luck and enjoy all your baby snuggles.....so exciting.

mumhow are your pains Hun? Did you phone anyone?
nom let us know how you get on with the monitor today.
bohemian straight to the ward if baby is still quiet, if anything at least you'll get to hear his heartbeat for a bit Smile

extra they just come and go all the time, I can be fine one minute and then they hit, I think its just a stop/start labour and it'll kick in when it wants to. So, I'm going to be like you and just relax, I'll mention it to mw then just get on with things. Not long to go either way I suppose Confused

Spd sounds truly awful for those of you suffering from it Thanks

itsliz · 21/11/2013 08:24

Off to my spend the next 3 hours at my BF workshop but just wanted to pop in quickly to wish you the best of luck for today, Feather!
Hope it all goes well, will be thinking of you Smile x

MrsShrubs · 21/11/2013 09:17

Loads of luck feather !!!!

Not sure if I'm being paranoid or not, w

MrsShrubs · 21/11/2013 09:21

Stupid phone!!

Not sure if I'm being paranoid or not, I woke up this morning and my pregnancy pillow was just ever so slightly damp and now I keep feeling like a need a wee even though I've literally just been, have put a liner on to see if maybe I'm leaking. Have had very mild cramping after a wee but other than that haven't had anything else. Have got a MW appointment today so may chat to her about it.

WhisperMen · 21/11/2013 09:30

good luck feather! enjoy the cuddles

13loki · 21/11/2013 09:31

Good luck feather

We have about 2 inches of snow, which made walking DD to childminder quite interesting, especially since she refused to have the rain cover on the pushchair (I would normally make her walk, but I can't chase her or pick her up) so I had to use the old pushchair, with small wheels, which is not good in snow.

beth27123 · 21/11/2013 09:33

Good luck feather x
