Whoever mentioned belly buttons (whisper?) I have to agree, mine has always been an innie and is now sticking out. It looks like a pig snout, it's gross! I try and avoid looking at it to be honest Hmm

To those worried about cats, ours had taken to trying to sneak into the Moses basket at any opportunity, I think she thought its a cat bed for her! I got a cat net from mothercare for about £5 and put it on, and after the first time when she landed on it an realised it was wobbly underfoot and no longer cosy and inviting she hasn't bothered with it at all. I don't really like the idea of having baby under the net, but it's better than kitty landing on him!

Nom I'm very interested in slings but would have no idea where to start, can you point me in the right direction?

Stom91 · 20/11/2013 17:47

Ooh that snappy thing. Is it worth getting? I've been thinking about getting one through the whole pregnancy but I can't make up my mind! Lol

Nappy*

MrsShrubs · 20/11/2013 18:12

Thanks pistachio will have to go get one for our cats

stom for £12.50 at the moment and it comes with a capsule of nappy sacks already in its not a bad investment, the replaceable canisters are also on offer, I got a pack of 3 for just over £10, altogether the canisters and disposal came to less than the disposal system at full price. Just saves having to keep going downstairs to the bin.

Featherbag · 20/11/2013 18:13

Nom, I've bought a stretchy wrap ready for baby as I haven't bought a double pram and want to avoid doing so if at all possible, as DS1 is so close to walkable age! Is there anything I need to know, any tips? If it's not suitable for newborns I'm stuffed as I've not got any more money to buy another kind!

Chelsealady · 20/11/2013 18:25

The wraps have always worried me its stupid but have always been worried incase i fall over onto my front and something goes wrong.

Its the 20th and that means this time next month some of you will have babies!! So exciting i really do hope its me will be great to be able to have little madam here for Xmas and also i do love pate on crackers at Xmas!

clare8allthepies · 20/11/2013 18:46

Hi everyone, thought I had posted on here but must have been mistaken. After going in on Saturday to be induced I finally had DD on Monday afternoon. It took 3 prostin tablets to get them to even be able to attempt to break my waters and even then the doctor struggled (this baby was definitely not ready to come out!)

Waters broken at half 11, as there weren't any contractions they started the drip at 12.40 and DD was born at half past 4.

It was pretty intense, and (fully using the TMI truce) whoever asked about going into labour constipated - don't!

I had been really suffering (bloody iron tablets) and when the midwife examined me the first thing she said was how loaded my bowels were Blush as I was fully dilated there was nothing for it but to have to push out the poo before the baby!

I suspect that if you go into labour naturally it won't be an issue as you tend to have a bit of a clear out at the start but if you are getting induced I would ask if there is anything they can give you

At home having lots of cuddles now, too many she only wants to be on me or her dad!

Alyssa1978 · 20/11/2013 18:59

loki 46 weeks! My gosh and I thought I was getting sick at 38 weeks.
I love you maternity leave though, I wish mine was like that lol.

whisper so sorry to hear about your dp's uncle. Love both your lists.

chilli I really hope this one is quicker than the previous 25 hours lol.
Hope your cold buggars off too Hun, there's nothing worse when you're pregnant I think.

Welcome back geppa I relate to all those with the energetic bored toddlers, when dp is at work we are pretty much stuck in the house and there's only so much here to entertain 2 toddlers. Buses are a nightmare this time of year and my pushchair for ds2 has to be put down into 2 bits which I can't manage on my own while this pregnant lol.

mum good news on lumps being benign Hun, hope the needles didnt hurt you too much Thanks
I've always had tons of braxton hicks and still do but now they are accompanied by the crampy ones that start in your back but they are contractions I think as my BH don't hurt.

up the I was cleaning like a mad woman yesterday, didnt go to bed until 1am, think I was nesting, either that or the house was a shit tip lol.

bohemian you should've thrown the cheese at them Wink

nom how's your pains? Any better?
We bought a sling for this time, I don't remember the name but we got it from mothercare, may have been a baba sling but don't quote me, it's material and has black plastic safety clips.

Thanks for the tip mrs off to check it out soon.

Well! I was laying on my mums couch earlier as my cramps were getting quite bad its ok they've gone again lol and my entire back end started to get soaking wet so I jumped up announcing my water had gone when I realised ds1 had emptied his fruit shoot over me lol. I scared the poor thing that his pet lip came out.

Mw tomorrow so brace yourselves for my bitch fest tomorrow as I just know she won't check a damn thing apart from my urine and bp Hmm

Have a good night everyone and feather good luck for tomorrow, let us know as soon as you can that you're getting baby snuggles, I'm so excited for you Thanks

Alyssa1978 · 20/11/2013 19:08

clare congrats on your little girl Hun.
Can I be cheeky and ask what pain relief you used? So once you got started with the contractions it was pretty quick?

mumoftwoboysS · 20/11/2013 19:17

Just wrote a post but it didn't bloody work- luckily I copiedost of it.

Congratulations clare glad it all went well! I'm a tad worried about poos as I don't seem to have a 'clear out' pre labour and when ds2 came out so did the contents of my bowels! Not that I gave a crap (no pun intended) but it would have been nice not to have done that!!

Ok I've counted 6 Braxton hicks in the last hour. A baby website said more than 4 in a hour could be a concern! Pretty mild period like pains too.

It did also say dehydration and doing too much can set them off...

Anyone else had tons like this?? (Apart from those of you who could be in early labour?) alyssa I remember now when you say pain radiating from lower back round your fanjo and up- I think that's real contractions like you say and these must be BH but I've just never had so any like this before.

Lol re the fruit shoot!

MrsShrubs · 20/11/2013 19:17

Good luck tomorrow feather and isn't angry tomorrow as well? Newborn cuddles for you guys tomorrow!

alyssa that cracked me up bless you!! I've got a mw appointment tomorrow too, will be a miracle if they're running on time.

thecherryontop · 20/11/2013 19:35

Hi everyone! Sorry I haven't been able to contribute much to the thread -it's been moving so quickly I've struggled to keep up! Hope all of you have had a good day so far... I was hoping someone could maybe advise me... I'm 37+4 today and my midwife sent me to the dr to speak in more depth about how my spd would impact labour... Anyway -dr offered a sweep to see how things were and found out I was 3cm dilated! I'm a bit shocked as although I've had period type pains its been nothing compared to the spd... I'm booked in for next wk where he said he would be surprised if nothing had happened by then and I'm favourable for induction... Any of you ladies who have had babies before experienced a sweep and if so is it just luck of the draw what happens next? I thought I would have known if I was dilating... Feel like a bit of an idiot to be honest! Anyway advice would be greatly appreciated as I'm literally having kittens now! Shock

thecherryontop · 20/11/2013 19:36

Ps good luck to all of you with c sections booked Smile

MildredH · 20/11/2013 19:43

Fab news Cherry! I'm jealous!!

Cherry junior must be ready to meet you..

X

clare8allthepies · 20/11/2013 19:47

No problem! I had gas and air then the contractions got REALLY intense and painful is I asked for diamorphine (despite deciding before I would try not to) but the midwife examined me and as I was fully dilated and ready to push there wouldn't be time for it to take effect before she would be born. As it turned out things got held up a bit because of the erm poo issue but I managed!

Had a local anaesthetic for my stitches (2nd degree tear)

BetterWithCheese · 20/11/2013 19:56

This thread moves too fast!!

Someone asked up thread when I start may leave-it's complicated as I'm changing jobs so I finish current job on Dec 3rd at 37 weeks preg then go in to new job for a few days the following week but am going to suggest I am done on the 10th.

AlyssaI actually lol-ed at the fruit shoot/waters!

Good luck for tomorrow feathers, congratulations clare and woohoo to cherry!

Forgot to say that being at work isn't too bad as everyone feels dead sorry for me as I'm HUGE and look like birth could happen at moment Grin

Alyssa1978 · 20/11/2013 20:06

mum I would phone the labour ward to be on the safe side as 6 in the last hour is a bit concerning especially as you are having cramps with them. My BH are in no way painful just my stomach goes tight.

I think angry is on Friday mum but not too sure.

cherry I had a sweep just before 39 weeks with ds2 but it didnt do anything, she said my cervix was short and very favourable and easily got 2 fingers in but I didn't cramp at all and I'd already been loosing my mucous plug for around 2 weeks previous. I never had another and went into labour myself bang on his due date at 40 weeks and he was born 25 hours later lol.
But I had no period type pains with him until the big day and I'm sure when you are feeling period type pains they are contractions causing you to dilate.

clare well done on only having gas and air Hun, I love diamorphine and ill be gutted if I don't get it lol. I keep forgetting how intense it all gets near the middle/end.

NomDeClavier · 20/11/2013 20:08

I'll respond properly inc to sling related qs once DS is in bed but I went to the hospital because of the random pain and got to come back tomorrow afternoon for another 30mins on the monitor. There may or may not be slight contractions, which may or may not be BHs but I don't feel them where they're supposed to be. It feels like she's stabbing my cervix instead because I have really sharp pains inside my fanjo which correspond more or less to what may or may not be contraction. We'll see, but DH is due home in an hour and DS was super-excited to do dinner and bathtime with my friend's family.

Alyssa1978 · 20/11/2013 20:08

It was me who asked about the mat leave better
I'm laughing about the fruit shoot now but I was really gutted at the time, I'm convinced my kids are conspiring against me Grin

clare8allthepies · 20/11/2013 20:12

The midwife went to get a second midwife to sign for the diamorphine when they decided there wasn't time - DP said that when she came back in to assist with the birth she said ooh you could have had that diamorphine after all! Good job I didn't hear her say that! [gr

clare8allthepies · 20/11/2013 20:13

Grin even!

Chelsealady · 20/11/2013 20:14

mumof from my experience having BH the midwife always said anything more than 4 in a hour and to call up/come in. Also while i was in hospital and having real contractions the DR said you will always no that they are real contractions because BH do not get very painful just uncountable. Try and walk around because that normally makes them stop but does not make the real contractions stop. If nothing changes call the midwife and explain your concern because thats basically how my early labour started from BH confusion and then came my bleed 4 hours later.

Congratulations clare super jealous!

PistachioTruffle · 20/11/2013 20:15

Congratulations Clare!

Good Luck tomorrow Feather Flowers

Alyssa, the fruit shoot story made me laugh, thanks Grin

Alyssa1978 · 20/11/2013 21:01

Your welcome pistachio lol my dp was crying with laughter Grin

lisbapalea · 20/11/2013 21:06

Good luck tomorrow feather and congratulations to clare!! So exciting that the December babies are arriving!

I have had a stinking cold and cough since Saturday - generously passed onto me by DD - but thankfully am on the mend now. Felt truly dreadful on Monday and paracetamol just didn't touch the sides in the way Lemsip can!

Had a mad morning nesting yesterday and cleared lots of cupboards and re-labelled loads of my batch cooking in the freezer, which makes me sound bonkers.

Went into London today with my Mum and DD to take DD to the theatre. Was a slightly wasted trip - DD cried as soon as the lights went down (although she did enjoy it in the end - but had to sit on my lap the whole way through; not easy with an 8month bump). And the weather was filthy; we got caught in a horrible hailstorm. Back at home now and very relieved!

I have spent this evening reading the NICE guidelines on Caesarean sections, so that I am informed before meeting the consultant tomorrow morning - fingers crossed he's less of a pompous arse than he was at the last meeting...!

Hope everyone in discomfort, grumpiness and just boredom of pregnancy is feeling a bit better! The end is in sight!!
