clever, wow that sounds like a dream birth!!

Liquidambar · 29/10/2013 18:33

Excellent news Seat :)

I have been having a sharp pain on the left side of my lower tummy. I hope it is just wind and nothing serious Blush. I will have an early scan on Thursday, can't wait.

DS was a preem, so my story is slightly different. Despite the 39 hours of labour (= exhaustion) the birth was a beautiful moment and I had fantastic care. There were 3 midwives, 2 doctors and a pediatrician in the room while I was pushing (yes, wide open legs for everyone to see - so dignifying!!) and I ended up having an epidural and episiotomy. My recovery was great, but we stayed in hospital for 10 days because of DS. I know my chances of having a another premature baby are high, so I don't see many options rather then going to the hospital to give birth.

cheesysmile · 29/10/2013 18:37

Great news Seat, really pleased for you.

I'm 8+3 today and trying to wait for the 12 wk scan. Wud be easier if I even had a date to count down to.

noseymcposey · 29/10/2013 18:53

MTMD - read your post and thought I'd written it! I am so bloated it's ridiculous, rock hard stomach a lot of the time. Had a bath this morning and noticed my nipples and though f*ck me they are PREGNANT nipples!!!!! I don't remember being this obviously pregnant at 8 weeks with DS. Joked about twins yesterday when I was being so sick too.

Feel more normal today though!

AuntPittypat · 29/10/2013 18:57

Brilliant news Seat, what a relief!

Mica, I'm still waiting to hear from my hospital too re. A booking in appointment and I'm also 8+4 today. I did phone them last week and they said they had a bit of a backlog, they were still working through the pile for babies due late May and they hoped to get to June babies in the next week or so. Very frustrating for an impatient person like me!

And Marlena, no, DD was not early (1 day late), but both DP and I are quite small so I never expected a whopper! (She is 2 now and has just moved from being constantly on the 2nd centile for height to the 9th.)

SarahAnderson · 29/10/2013 19:15

Thank you to all those posting non-horrific birth stories... very comforting to this first timer. x

MyNameIsWinkly · 29/10/2013 19:23

I'm feeling a lot more 'pregnant' today, all of a sudden. How early is too early for bed? I do have to be up for work at 5.15...

Micasaestucasa · 29/10/2013 19:25

AuntPitty thanks, that's reassuring. I'm sure that's the case with my hospital too.

nosey I'm constantly eating cheesy crackers to combat MS and just want to eat sandwiches for lunch and dinner. Carby and plain all the way (to Fatville at this rate!).

SarahAnderson · 29/10/2013 19:25

I have been eating crisps all day. And all yesterday.

jaykay987 · 29/10/2013 19:27

winkly Im at the back of the bus with you. Time is standing still!
I have booked an early scan for when Im 7w which is a week on Friday! I cannot wait.

mica Ive gone off chicken too. Im not feeling that sick, just tired and really daddy with food. I've completely lost my appetite, although have already put on a pound. My stomach s huge, so I presume I have a lot of water on board. Hmm

jaykay987 · 29/10/2013 19:28

Ooh....almost forgot...yayseat!!!!!! You must be so pleased! Grin

superlambanana · 29/10/2013 19:28

MyNameIsWinkly I'm behind you - 5+2!! I hate waiting. Desperate for an early scan but DH doesn't see the point and doesn't want to do anything 'out of the ordinary'. I think he doesn't want to jinx it before 12 weeks. Neither do I but I'm trying not to think about that!

Seat that's great news :-) Hoping for the same for London and the others.

Bezzabelle · 29/10/2013 19:33

Nosey- jelly is a lifesaver for me, rehydrates you too!

MarlenaGru · 29/10/2013 19:34

aunt I am small and dh is very small for a man and we had an 8lber. Was expecting a tiny thing so took tiny baby clothes and ended up with a baby bursting out if newborn Hmm

jaykay987 · 29/10/2013 19:36

Has anyone suffered with headaches?

I don't normally drink enough and never feel thirsty. But the past few weeks Ive been constantly drinking as Im so thirsty. I presume the headache is related, so have significantly upped my water intake - but the headaches are still happening. I get them almost every other day (sometimes a bit more frequent) and they last a good 12 hours. Sleep doesn't seem to shift it, and of course I am avoiding my trusted Anadin extra.

I've got 4head and some patches....I guess I just want to see if anyone else is suffering?

LadyGoneGaga · 29/10/2013 19:40

Headaches are hormonal, jaykay. and should ease next trimester. I've been having bad headaches pre-conception but the pregnancy has made them worse. Doctor said it's the high oestrogen which exacerbates them.

VickyVix · 29/10/2013 19:51

Great news seat Grin

I'm getting really impatient now too, it's so frustrating not knowing what is going in in there.

According to GPs dates I am 7+5 but according to my last long cycle (35 days) I would only be 6+5 BUT I'm pretty sure I ovulated even later this cycle and based on that I would only actually be 6+1 today.

I really want to book an early scan but so want to be able to see something - I need to see a heartbeat to believe any of this is real. So I am totally confused over when to book the appointment for - too soon and I might not see anything but the wait is so hard.

I'm with you ladies on the crackers and crisps front - and actually any food that is beige in colour! So unhealthy

VickyVix · 29/10/2013 19:55

jaykay i've been having headaches too, you're not alone. I'm also similar in that I never usually drink anything or feel thirsty (in fact I hate water) but, i've been drinking tons of water over last few weeks as have been so thirsty and am still getting headaches (and the water actually tastes good!)

CleverOl10 · 29/10/2013 20:09

7+6 today and time has totally stood still. No scan date yet so at least a month to go. Not told anyone yet either so feels even longer!

wispaxmas · 29/10/2013 20:33

I've been having headaches, too, jaykay!

I'm 9 weeks today (or 8+4 going on the date the early scan gave me), but time still feels like its standing still. I feel like I'm not even pregnant yet, but yet I've been pregnant forever already.

I majorly do not want to give birth. I'm trying not to think about it too much yet. I'm sure birth can be a lovely thing, but I'm sure that more often than not it's painful and exhausting, and I'd much rather have a stork drop baby off directly on our doorstep. I know I don't want a home birth because I don't deal well with pain and want as much pain relief as possible to be available to me. Add to that my mum had horrible labours and nearly died twice (I made her hemorrhage and she ended up back in hospital for ages), and I'd be waaay too anxious having a home birth.

Changing tack, though, any of you mums in here have any recommendations for pushchair travel system? Or nursery furniture? Or baby carriers? I've started perusing mumsnet reviews and even on the mumsnet best products there are always some glaringly bad reviews and it's tough to know what to believe!

cheesysmile · 29/10/2013 21:04

I'm agreeing with the beige food, so craving carbs ... always thought I wouldn't eat too much more and would be really healthy, but its so hard not to eat lots of bread and cheese. Oh im going to put on so much weight.

Know what you mean abt not wanting to give birth Wispa but im just trying not to think about that yet, plenty of other things to worry abt at this stage. Also I figure plenty of people have more than one child so it must be worth it! Smile

LadyGoneGaga · 29/10/2013 21:04

We have a Mamas and Papas Sola and have to say I love it. Still use it for DD and she's 2, nicer to push than our Maclaren (although Maclaren useful for holidays and taking up less room in car). It's smart, lightweight, easy to use and crucially, not horrendously expensive. Didn't bother with getting the carrycot as it lies flat in pushchair mode and June babies don't need the warmth in the same way as a december baby might. By the time it gets cold you just wrap them up ina cosy toes. And you can get converters to clip on any M&P car seat.

Nursery furniture, we bought a cot from Mothercare and has done two babies and will do another! And an Ikea chest of drawers doubles as a nappy changer without the massive price tag.

Baby carriers, eurgh. Avoid any Baby Bjorn type forward facing carriers. They hold the baby in a terrible position and recent research indicates it can set them up for hip problems. Have a look on the sling boards if you want to use a carrier as lots of useful info. I've had a Moby wrap, a Wilkinet and a Babyhawk. All had their pros and cons. DS loved the Moby, DD wouldn't have it at all but did like the Babyhawk.

But the baby industry is much like the wedding industry. People will see you coming and try to sell you lots of things you "need". Babies need a lot less stuff than you might think. But all the shopping IS fun. I'm a bit jealous as we really don't need anything much at all this time around. Not looking forward to digging out the scabby old maternity clothes.

CleverOl10 · 29/10/2013 21:07

Don't think about the giving birth bit. It just happens - some worse than others but it will happen and you'll be prepared and all the professionals around you will know what to do! Try not to think about it at all - think about getting through the pregnancy and the beautiful baby at the end! :)

LadyGoneGaga · 29/10/2013 21:08

And on the birth front, after 40 weeks of being pregnant you will be so majorly fed up you will be absolutely willing labour to start. No point fretting about it now. Have you considered Hypnobirthing? Especially if you have anxieities around birth I think it could really help you. You can still have as many drugs as you want but it helps to calm you a lot and could make you think about birth more positively and feel more in control. Very early days but food for thought. I used a CD for my first that was really helpful and if nothing else was great for relaxation - I don't think I ever got through a whole listen without falling asleep!

MarlenaGru · 29/10/2013 21:14

wispa the best advice I ignored while pregnant before was to not buy stuff!

I had a Moses basket, crib and corned and yet dd only slept on me until she was about 4 months old. I bought a baby bjorn but could barely wear her in it for 20 minutes without back spasms. Other carriers I had when she was older I could use for days!

My best buy was my bugaboo bee. Invaluable in London on narrow pavements and on and off buses. My dd still used it in Disneyland last year. It turns on a knife edge and is so easy to push one handed when you find yourself unexpectedly breastfeeding whilst pushing a pram! Not greatest for newborns but really good from 4 months to 3 years! The new plus looks even better.
