Afternoon ladies. Just hitting my low ebb, I'm constantly shattered but this time in the afternoon after I've eaten I feel utterly exhausted and I'm finding it hard to get through my day until I leave work.

Anyone have any coping strategies (Yawning through meetings is not great) - was thinking of taking an iron supplement but then have read bad things.

I'm lucky that now I only work 3.5 days as I have a toddler - but on the other hand when I'm not at work it's full on and I can't rest like I did when I was pg with my DS.

highlandfling10 · 29/10/2013 15:04

Hi - I’m on my afternoon low too. I help run a toddler group on Tuesday mornings and we had our Halloween party today. DD had a wonderful time and is having a nap now – but I then fell asleep on her bedroom floor! I woke up all uncomfortable with a giant Minnie Mouse for a pillow… !
I also am part time – work 3 days. I’m finding the days I am more alert at work are when I drink more water although that = peeing constantly LOL! I’m really nauseous all day so it’s hard. Also finding it difficult to focus at work – babybrain has definitely set in – things that should take me no time atol are taking an age! Be good when I can tell them I’m preggers again so they know there is at least a reason!

I have my ‘meet the midwife’ apt tomorrow morning at my MLU. Looking forward to going and talking about the pregnancy with someone, feels all a bit more real! Smile
Hx

Thank you everyone that has talked about your birth experience! Would love to hear more. I think I'm probably exaggerating when I say I've only read about traumatic ones, more likely those are just the ones that stick in your mind.

Nelly I'm taking Floradix at the moment and it's helping loads I think, both with fatigue and MS. It's liquid iron mixed with Vit C and some herbal extracts, it's meant to absorb more easily, and also, you can take as small a dose as you like, so you have more control. It's at Holland & Barrett in a glass bottle in a box, if you want to have a look at it. :)

MarlenaGru · 29/10/2013 15:48

My birth was long and uncomfortable and didn't go at all according to plan and DD was a ventouse birth with episiotomy etc, however the very next day I felt absolutely fine. The only time it ever hurt was weeing with stitches and a little bit of itchiness which I still have now from the scar tissue. I have friends who have birth with a little cough but had far more pain than me after a few weeks so I think we are all so different it is hard to predict.

I am desperate for a home birth this time. I was so keen last time but dh said no. I seriously wish I had stuck to my guns as all my friends who had home births had such lovely experiences. My biggest fear is controlling my mum who thinks I should have an elcs after last time as where she lives all women have elcs.

Bezzabelle · 29/10/2013 16:02

Ds's birth was pretty traumatic and one I don't want to repeat with this one!

Just had scan, all looks good so far and dink looks like a frog at the moment!!

LadyGoneGaga · 29/10/2013 16:14

Rara she just happened to come along to my booking appointment. Just lucky!

littlepickly · 29/10/2013 16:35

Snowlet I had a good experience with my DD too - was quite long and v.tiring but nothing traumatic to report. I started having contractions at 6am on the Sunday and was a long day basically of contracting at home - I thought I would be going into hospital by lunchtime but unfortunately everything tailed off in the afternoon. Was still contracting by bedtime phoned hospital at about 10.30pm and they told me to take paracetamol and go to bed and let body take over and do the work - managed about 2 hours in bed before going into hospital - was 4cm dilated when I got there at 1am and DD's head very low.

Had lovely large delivery suite with lots of space to walk around and lovely big bath tub too - eventually got to 9cm about 6am and started pushing not long after - had a bit of a rubbish midwife at this point who was clearly waiting for shift change over and not helping much at all considering I was getting pretty exhausted at this point - around 8.30am shift changed and new community midwife took over and she was amaaaaazing - she had me eating fig rolls for energy Smile up on my knees to help with pushing and then standing up with one foot on a step (ha!) and DD was born at 9am.

I managed on gas and air and DD was never in distress she was just wiggling about the whole time so I think that's why I was left to it a bit. Overall it was a very positive (if exhausting) experience, I only had a tiny tear which had a few stitches and I never even really felt it as generally felt like I had been booted in the nunny anyway! Grin

Hospital was ok and the care was good even though they were a little short staffed at times, food was awful though! I'm hoping for a home birth this time as I just love the idea of being tucked up in bed with baby straight after and being able to rest and bond properly together.

littlepickly · 29/10/2013 16:37

p.s meant to say DD was 3 days late - so was nice not to have to wait to long for her too Smile

AuntPittypat · 29/10/2013 16:39

Snowlet, my DD's birth was quick and straightforward. Started feeling contractions around 5pm, went into hospital about 10pm, and she was born just before 11pm. Hard pushing stage only lasted about 20 mins - I was upright with one leg cocked up on the bed (so dignified!) and only needed gas and air. No tearing at all. She was very small though, only 5lb 5oz, which meant she was classed as an official 'small baby' so we had to stay in hospital for a couple of days afterwards for them to keep checking her blood sugar levels.

I'm hoping for a similar experience this time!

MarlenaGru · 29/10/2013 16:47

That is quite small aunty was she early?
I wish it was 12 weeks so I could start to get excited. I am so bloody tired today I could cry and have a Halloween quiz tonight which would usually be my most favourite thing to do but have to avoid drinks and questions from colleagues and I just want to sleep Haloween Sad

seatfor5 · 29/10/2013 17:42

Just back from my scan and happy to say I have a 6+6 bud with a beating heart :) They can see no reason for the bleed and are just saying breakthrough. They are happy with him :) does mean I need to change my date on the list due date is now 18th June (which is more in line with fertility friend as I have a long cycle and ovulate late) so am very relieved and hope the same for the others who had a crap weekend.

On previous labours I was induced all 3 times due to the GD my oldest two I had the pill, then the drip and then they broke my waters but laboured ok and had them both within 15 hours of the process being started my 3rd DS I had the pill inserted at 2pm and went into labour from there he was born at 8.30pm with all three it was just gas and air for pain relief and no stitches DS3 was one push and out lol!

Lmf679 · 29/10/2013 17:50

seatfor5 so happy for you! That's great news

MyNameIsWinkly · 29/10/2013 17:52

That's lovely news seat :)

I am sooo jealous of all these scans, I'm right at the back of the bus here (5+6) and there's no point in me going for another week. Time is dragging badly!

LadyGoneGaga · 29/10/2013 17:56

Lovely news, Seat! What a relief!

Lmf679 · 29/10/2013 18:01

Mynameiswinkly i know what you mean, am 6+2 and am trying to hold out until 8 weeks for an early scan. 12 weeks seems like a long time when you're waiting! I'm inpatient at the best of times...

Lmf679 · 29/10/2013 18:02

Impatient! Not an inpatient

noseymcposey · 29/10/2013 18:03

Excellent news Seat! How lovely to see the heart beat :)

I had my booking appt with the GP today they do them at 8 weeks here. My GP was lovely! He's given me an anti-sickness prescription and signed me of work for a week. I actually feel less sick today than I have been doing so still not sure whether last few days of mega-vomiting have been a virus or MS so will hold off taking them for now I think. Still struggling to eat though... so far today 2 slices of watermelon but gagged on a bit of a toast.

Sicky ladies any suggestions for what to eat? (Please don't say ginger bloody biscuits!)

MyNameIsWinkly · 29/10/2013 18:05

lmf next Thursday (when I'll be 7+1) will be as long as I can physically wait! I'm hoping that I'll be able to see something then.

Micasaestucasa · 29/10/2013 18:16

Excellent news seat!

My birth experience with DD was also a positive one. She was breech so I had a planned CS. I was freaking out about the recovery, but it really wasn't that bad - and I'm a real pussy!

I've still not heard from the hospital re. my booking appointment. I'm 8+4 today. Very frustrating. I'm going to call the hospital on Friday if I still haven't heard.

Anyone gone off any food? I can't eat chicken at the moment. Just the thought turns my stomach. I also wouldn't go anywhere near alcohol even if I could. That's a real first for me, going off alcohol!

CleverOl10 · 29/10/2013 18:23

My birth experience was very positive, way better than the actual pregnancy! Two weeks early. Water broke on toilet so no tv style drama all over the floor. Checked out by hospital then sent home. Contractions over night but all in my back not tummy so took a while to realise I was actually in labour! Blush Felt contractions change to a need to push so quick dash to hospital. No time for pain relief so had none. Two pushes and my little 5 pounder was out and perfect!

Magpie78 · 29/10/2013 18:24

McDonalds! Loved them one day, the next even seeing the sign made me feel sick!!!

CleverOl10 · 29/10/2013 18:24

Have found apple juice is calming the nausea at the moment.

NessieMcFessie · 29/10/2013 18:24

Great news seat! Today was very exciting because the annual order of British goods came through from the UK - so I am stocked up on baked beans, branston pickle and digestives! It is the little things! Although if I had known at the time of ordering that I would be pregnant........... goodness knows what might have arrived!

A colleague asked me today if we were planning ever to have a second - I had to pishpish it....crossing my fingers under the table!

MyNameIsWinkly · 29/10/2013 18:27

Micasaestucasa I've always had a voracious sweet tooth but have massively gone off sweet things, especially chocolate, since I got pregnant.

nosey I find crisps and mini cheddars are lifesavers when I feel sick.

MTMD · 29/10/2013 18:30

Mica I cannot stand the idea of chicken either, yuck, it was the first thing I came off with MS.

One thing I really enjoy at the moment is fresh pineapple. I've been having loads recently.

My tummy is really hard and my trousers are tight despite losing some weight since bfp. DF's convinced we're having twins. I personally didn't expect my body to start changing so soon! My boobs are unrecognisable with long erect nipples (sorry tmi) Blush
