LadyGoneGaga · 01/11/2013 11:11

Snowlet not sure about long haul and the first trimester specifically but my Doctor advised me to wear support stockings due to greater risk of DVT in pregnancy and to stay very mobile. That was at about 28 weeks though. Make sure you have plenty of snacks with you and drink lots. And an aisle seat would be good so you can get out to the toilet.

Snowlet · 01/11/2013 11:14

Lady have definitely already thought about warning my seatmates if I end up with a window seat! Have the feeling they'll want to switch =P

The stockings in a great idea, have got some compression socks from running, those will be going on

LadyGoneGaga · 01/11/2013 11:27

They should be perfect, Snowlet! How is your running? Managed to get out? Mine has dropped to two or three 4 milers a week. And it feels hard! Always feel better for having gone though. My running club buddies are going to start getting suspicious soon especially as was due to be starting marathon training in a few weeks.

Emmazers · 01/11/2013 11:29

Oh it's definitely windy city around here! I'm also having trouble keeping warm. Thank goodness for hot water bottles Smile

Sarah I cried reading your story. So happy it was a good outcome. I had recurrent red bleeding with my first pregnancy and she's nearly 3 now, so it really isn't always a bad thing.

Gin I found babywearing so liberating and really helped me get my core strength back quickly. It also counts as tummy time because babies use the same muscles when in a good carrier in the frog leg position. You need to be careful about choosing a carrier/sling though. If you're going to do a lot then avoid the high street carriers like Baby Bjorns or anything else where the babies face out and have their legs dangling, as it's not great for their spine or hips, or your back for that matter.

Snowlet · 01/11/2013 11:38

Lady that's amazing! well done you.... my fatigue and sickness is just too severe right now, but I'm fully planning to do 3-4 miles as many days as I can once this passes (assuming it does!) and I'll try to carry on just as long as possible, since it's supposed to be so much better for the baby to do some aerobic exercise.

Right now I'm doing squats and some pull-ups (pathetic ones) to try and keep some fitness. Hmmm, do pelvic floor exercises count? =P

Was signed up to do a trail marathon last weekend, had to just drop completely out. Sad, as it sounded v.good. What marathon are you supposed to be training for?

Liquidambar · 01/11/2013 11:49

snow I think it is safe - or ateadr i hope it is safe as I already flew 5 times since I found out I'm pregnant ( not long hauls though, only between 3 and 5 hours) Wink . My advice is in flight socks, snacks, plenty of water and an aisle seat and you will be fine. If you are flying with a nice company check if they have any free spaces in business once you check in. Say you are pregnant. I'm going to Dubai in 4 weeks and then going home for X mas in December.

I'm not a freelancer... I work most days 8-4. In theory I should write a few things in the evenings when Ds is in bed, but I've been too tired to even think about it.

Sarah oh dear! glad all is fine. I hope you'll have a relaxing weekend. These things are so emotional. It takes time to recover.

wispaxmas · 01/11/2013 11:51

We actually need to wear those support socks when flying?! I'm flying back home to Canada for Christmas (I think that's 2nd tri, technically), and I hadn't even thought I'd need to do anything!

GinandStripes · 01/11/2013 11:53

Oh Lady I'm very jealous of your running, I managed 3 rather lovely runs the week before I conceived but haven't managed any since. My free time for running has sadly coincided with when I feel most shit! I'm hoping to try and go with my boyfriend tomorrow morning, if I feel rubbish and have to stop/walk at least I'll have someone to chat to/look after me!

Thanks emmazers my friend has got lots of slings for me to try, just annoying I can't try them out now!

wispaxmas · 01/11/2013 11:55

Just looked it up - NHS has a guideline, and it basically says drink water and dont stay seated the whole flight: www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/927.aspx?CategoryID=54#close

seatfor5 · 01/11/2013 11:59

Can I ask which slings you have I had a mody but found the straps mental to try and put on when out. Also I am a size 22-24 and find it hard to find a sling that fits :(

MarlenaGru · 01/11/2013 12:02

Thanks for the good luck wishes! My advice for flying is to take a soft cushion. Flew 12 hours at 24ish weeks and it was hell sitting still for that long.
sarah how amazing!
Sorry but in can't remember all the other exciting bits. Stupid memory.

On slings has anyone had a kari-me for a newborn? I really want one!

Vickyvix · 01/11/2013 12:16

I am pleased to report one tiny flickering heartbeat seen this morning, I caved and had an early private scan and I am so so pleased I did. It made me all weepy when I saw the little bean's heart beating away, just amazing to see Grin Grin it all feels real now (I think I just had to see it to believe it)

As suspected my dates were more accurate than GPs because I have long cycles so I am around 6+3 today. Hopefully we will get a better idea of dates at my 12 week scan ( which will actually be at 11 weeks).

Good luck with your scan hannah

Great news you had a positive outcome sarah really pleased for you

And fingers crossed all is ok for you now snowlet and that you get some news soon pom

Vickyvix · 01/11/2013 12:20

Sorry, I forgot marlena good luck today! :)

Emmazers · 01/11/2013 12:24

Congrats Vix that's splendid news Smile

I used a stretchy wrap (Moby) when H was tiny, moved on to an Ergo when she was about 4 months, then a toddler-sized Wompat (similar to Ergo) that still gets used occasionally. I have also used woven wraps and ring slings but definitely found the Soft Structured Carriers (SSC), sometimes known as Full Buckle carriers the most convenient and comfy. Stretchies, like Moby and Karri Me, are great when they're tiny though, once you get used to the reams of fabric. Easy to breastfeed in too.

Emmazers · 01/11/2013 12:26

Seat it might be worth finding your local sling library. They can advise you on the different types of slings and lend you some to try out before you decide which one's right for you.

LadyGoneGaga · 01/11/2013 12:27

Snowlet was meant to be doing Brighton. Haven't deferred yet as still paranoid something might go wrong. But my husband is running it and quite a few clubmates so I will still be going down to support. Irritating in a way since I should have been in a position to break 3:30 but there are lots of marathons and will give me an aim for getting back into shape post-birth. Hope your run goes well, Gin. My advice is to ignore pace as you'll be slower than normal for same effort. Just enjoy a gentle pootle around.

Seat I like my Babyhawk as bit easier to use than the Moby (I still like Moby for newborn cuddliness though). Loads of great slings these days though. Bondolinos and Ergos meant to be very good. There is a slings board on MN.

Great news on scan, VickyVix!

BEEwitched · 01/11/2013 12:30

Great news Vicky!

(psst, wee namechange, bludgerwitch was a bit too violent Grin )

Liquidambar · 01/11/2013 12:41

vicky great news Smile

MarlenaGru · 01/11/2013 12:47

Oh how exciting vicky
1 hour and 45 mins to go for me!

HannahC1989 · 01/11/2013 12:47

Very pleased for you vix!
I didnt have an 8 week scan with my first and i dunno how i lasted til 12 weeks. Im sooooo excited!

HannahC1989 · 01/11/2013 12:49

Also very pleased with my first midwife appointment yesterday. Midwife was very confident i wouldnt need another c section. Although im now very nervous for a first time natural labour!! :-S x

MTMD · 01/11/2013 12:53

Very interested in slings! Love the idea of being able to move around with little one handing on my boob hahah! :)

Got a huge portion of cheesy pasta for lunch. Starting to feel a little more alive. Hope it the sensation will last beyond the said portion! :)

MTMD · 01/11/2013 12:55

Ps Got my maternity excemption card yesterday. Feels like I now have " I'm pregnant " badge! :)

LadyGoneGaga · 01/11/2013 13:02

Worst thing about being pregnant with third child...toddler nappies . Along with spidie sense of smell.

kittygirl33 · 01/11/2013 13:20

Anyone else utterly starving today? I just can't stop eating! I had to run out and buy a second sandwich for lunch after devouring the first at 1130! I was chuffed to get to the gym yesterday and have a half decent workout but today I only seem capable of stuffing my face....

Hopefully I'll be feeling a bit better tomorrow and get out for a run, though I only seem to be managing three or four miles at a time as well.
