thought I'd start one off girls (and Salamander!)

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
YellowFeathers · 10/07/2006 14:23

I'm not so bothered about the markings on the bottle. I've got dd's old ones which are a bit marked anyway but I'm giving breast feeding another go so I might not need them.

Glad you mentioned the tablets though, was about to start a thread on that. Tescos is out local supermarket too.

dressedupnowheretogo · 10/07/2006 14:29

thats what i said to my friend why do you need markings for expressed milk and she was all like oh well you know just in case very supportive of her i must say sorry yf assumming the same

YellowFeathers · 10/07/2006 14:31

If it gets me out of washing, I'd rather keep buying bottles when the marking come off

dressedupnowheretogo · 10/07/2006 14:33

tell me about yeah for labour saving devices

YellowFeathers · 10/07/2006 14:35

BigHotMama · 10/07/2006 15:24

Hi everyone, its taken me ages to catch up!

Just come back from midwife appointment and am measuring 37cm fundal height at 34 weeks - looks slightly bigger than average but nothing like the last time when MW told me I may have to be referred for early induction if keeps growwing at this rate - she reckons I may have had a full bladder last time and that can sometimes corrupt the measurements. Phew! Some of my DH's family were taking bets on baba beinga 10-12lb'er cheeky gits!

Arabica, I'm with you on the swollen feet thing, doesnt matter what I do they just arent going down at all and hurts to walk on bare foot around the house, feels like they're gonna split open!

Cheers Purple for mentioning about taking 2 towels for hosp bag, wonder why your choosing burgundy lol?

I was told about the pram superstition too, so have got it all set up raring to go at my parents, but needed the car seat to work out how to put base in car and so I can get used to handling the thing! They're huge and quite stiff at first so may give it an oiling down.

Eeny, I think its so cool that your american and my DH wants to move over there, he adores the place! I've never even give it a thought that your a 'foreigner' as I class you as one of us chick and at end of the day we're all human and equal etc? Maybe your feeling a bit homesick too?
Dont let it get you down as I'm sure like Sarahlou said children will think its cool to have an american mummy!

Any news yet from Snowboo? Trix you sound as if you could be on your way too chick? Its all getting so near isnt it? Its so exciting!

Re stretchmarks, I've been using mixture of palmers Coca butter and Bio oil and not got one on belly yet but did notice a few faint ones around the bottom of my back - caught a glimpse in the mirror other day so am now applying it thick n fast to back area.

Baba has been moving like crazy lately, getting pinches to the pelvic area, kicks to the sides of bump and bum keep sticking out at top of my bump. When I look down I see it move from left to right and have noticed a few hard shakes like its dancing or something?

MW also told me the head is well n truly down so getting ready.

Sorry if I've rambled yet again, hope everyone is well and swell x x

Salamander · 10/07/2006 15:31

thanks for your words BHM, and everyone - on behalf of a sleep-deprived napping Eeny.

I think Alex's friends and Alex himself will think it's Super Cool to have an American mommy!!

I certianly think it's Super Cool to have an American wife - i am always going on about her to everyone I can!!

dressedupnowheretogo · 10/07/2006 16:00

bhm ive used exactly the same cocktail and im absolutley covered in the bloody things so shows how reliable these things are

my mum and dad are going thru a huge ruff patch and it feels like my family are crashing round my ears may start a thread but dont know if i dare after last time

bhm lol at the full bladder messing measurements up know what you mean tho re thre bum sticking out my dh face just lits up bless him wen he feels her its def the best thing about being preg

YellowFeathers · 10/07/2006 16:45

Sorry to hear that B
(I can't bring myself to shorten your name to booby )

If you want to start a thread you go on and do it. There is alot of support on this site and I'm sure alot of people who have been in the same boat too.
Don't worry about your last thread. We're all different and we all have different tastes/opinions/ideas etc. Some people just speak their mind without thinking sometimes.

I've just happily spent £100 and completed all the baby shopping

I have spent the day in town and now feel officially prepared for this baby's arrival!

Only downside was that all 3 times dh handed over his card to pay for stuff, it told the store to phone in for authorisation. This process takes about 10 minutes, and involves him telling some random shop assistant "secure" details like his mother's maiden name, direct debits on our account blah blah blah. In Boots the card was then declined. Hand over my card - for the same bank account - and it goes straight through. This has happened to dh 6 times in the last fortnight. He phoned the bank this afternoon and they couldn't care less. I think to pacify him they ordered a new card in case it's some kind of fault on the card. Let's hope that sorts it. If not, I think I might take great pleasure in moving all our savings to a different bank, thank you very much.

eenywifemum · 10/07/2006 19:57

BHM you made me think - I was just talking to a friend who was 10lbs when he was born and his brother was 12lbs!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEIR POOR MOTHER!! Oh I cant even imagine! Thanks also for adding your thoughts on the 'home from home' issue. I knew I could count on the August girls to cheer me up

booby I'm sorry about your parents. Did you end up starting a thread on it? The problem with your last thread is it is a sensitive 'mumsnet' issue, like breastfeeding vs. bottle feeding. I'm sure people would be supportive to you about your family!

ooh Yellow I want to spend £100! we need to get some bedding for the cot still - button nose bear from mothercare was what we wanted but it looks like it is discontinued so by the time we can buy (after payday at the end of the month) they may not have any left

Pink dont worry that was not tmi - As uncomfortable as I know having the head engaged must be i am really looking forward to it. It's like a little sign that its almost over and baby is on its way!

Purple that is so annoying!! Do switch banks if they dont sort it out - they should give you better service!

SnowBoo · 10/07/2006 20:21

Just a quick note. Am still HUGE and pg, can hardly walk now as i'm so big. Even the neighbours are making comments now and getting stared at in the street. YES i'm pg, NO i'm not having twins and YES its getting tedious being asked on a daily basis.
Grumpy preggie lady now.

Looks like i have an infection of some sort so will call hosp tomorrow. Put it off today as they will tell me to go in and due to prev m/c they are more likely to hold me there! So ds is getting upset as i'm getting upset as i hate leaving him. Last time was for a night when i had my stitch put in and it was horrendous. Missed the little monkey to bits!

Have been drinking Rasp Leaf Tea, did this with ds and he arrived a week early so you never know.

Will let you know how it goes, glad everyone else is well.

Snow x

YellowFeathers · 10/07/2006 20:25

Eeny and Sal, I really recommend you have a look at Vertbaudets bedding. Its so lovely, a bit different to the usual teddies/animals etc.

I haven't bought cot bedding yet as baby will be in the carry cot first so I've had to order a new mattress for that from Quinny.
I ended up getting the Avent baby box which has the steriliser, isis breast pump and 2 bottles reduced to £39.99, sheets and muslin squares from Babies R Us and a foam bath support, new teats and bottle brushes from Mothercare.

I've been washing all the other stuff we have like the car seat, rocker, baby swing and clothes that I've found so once all this stuff is delivered we're ready for baby to arrive!

Purple, This has happened to me before and the bank couldn't explain it. Its quite embarrassing too isn't it.
I was very impressed with the bank today though. Literally 10 seconds after I had confirmed the last order with Mothercare, Dh's phone started ringing. It was the bank to say they were checking out the transactions that had gone through on his credit card. Obviously I'd hammered it because of the dishwasher and all the baby bits.
I was most impressed, very efficient.

Well I'm off now. Have got my Hospital appt tomorrow morning so please wish me luck and think positive things for me

lunavix · 10/07/2006 20:30

So what does everyone have left to get? I feel so behind. We still need:

the buggy (we've kind of ordered it but as we aren't paying for it as such -long story - I'm worried they'll turn round and say they aren't getting it in. Hopefully will get a confirmation on the 20th of this month, else my sling might get VERY good use!
Crib bedding - as before, dh wants pink so we're leaving it till the baby is actually born....
A carseat - again dh wanted pink but as he wants this stuff to last for a third baby, I've told him that might not be the best idea lol...
stereliser plus at least another three bottles - I want to try bfing again (didn't work well with ds) (and therein lies more expense - pump etc!) but dh is keen for baby to have a bedtime bottle, both to settle them and so he can have a turn each day feeding.
I'm sure there's more.... but that's the most important lol. Oh and nipple cream and the usual rubbish for the labour bag (which I started packing, pushed under the bed and promptly forgot about it)

The second baby definately loses some of the mystery and excitemnt

YellowFeathers · 10/07/2006 20:33

Luna, definatly look at that Avent baby box on Babies R Us. Its got everything you've just said you want in it. The breast pump alone costs £20!

Right I am going now....!

SnowBoo · 10/07/2006 20:34

Good luck for tomorrow Yellow.

Will let you all know if i get called in and held against my will! (NOT a good patient! )

lunavix · 10/07/2006 20:35

That's a point, muslins and stuff too.. can't believe how expensive muslins are, but now it's me eyeing up pink ones not dh

YF/eeny/Sal - I THOROUGHLY agree about vertbaudet. Ds's cot bedding was stunning - it's yellows and greens, with dragons and castles and stuff on it. Absolutely gorgeous. And when we went to IKEA after buying it, they had in dragon and castle stuff - a mirror, toychest, dragon toy holder, all in the same colours!!!!! He's grown out of it now (in a big boy bed), but I really loved it. Plus waited for the sale and it was all still available (ds was in his crib till about 11 months lol) The new dragon one is blue, it's okay but I loved ds's one.

lunavix · 10/07/2006 20:38

Yup good luck YF and snowboo.

YF - I would but I can't stand avent bottles... and I didn't get on very well with the avent breast pump last time.... the bottles refused not to leak, ds had constant colic, and the breast pump was about as productive as sucking the juice out of an underripe unopened watermelon with a straw with a hole in!!!

My breast feeding experience wasn't hugely successful over all...

YellowFeathers · 10/07/2006 20:42

Well if I'm honest we have 2 Avent bottles and then we used Dr Browns which were fab. Stopped any wind getting in.

Good luck to you SnowBoo too (sorry I missed your post).

What is wrong with me??????
Must get off internet
must get off internet

olivo · 10/07/2006 21:21

oooohhh, you're all so organised!! We have a pushchair ( in its box!), car seat nad moses basket but havent bought any of the littler things as yet. am kind of waiting till i finish work (i can now say 'at the end of next week'! -sounds sooner!) but cant even hobble the length of the high street so could be fun!

am feeling badly done to at the moment - i really dont think dh realises how tired i am - i've been suffering from lots of hip pain in bed so have to get up and walk around every hour or so, am knackered and yet he's still not very supportive - just keeps complaiining hes tired too - i know i dont have the monopoly on tiredness but he could at least make the right noises!
sorry to whinge!
