Ok, I can't see a May thread in here so I guess I will start one! According to the NHS due date calculator my EDD is actually 30th April but I think that makes me more likely to be having a May baby anyway!

Am feeling very tentative about starting this thread as I had a mc in June and it's very early days for this one but...anyone want to come and chat through these nerve-wracking first few days?

The exhaustion is terrible! I'm on summer holidays atm but struggling to manage especially with toddler ds and I honestly don't know how I'll cope when I'm back to work next week! All day long I am desperate for a nap!

cupcake welcome we are due on the same date.
I've never heard of a group midwife session not sure I would be too into something like that.
One thing to consider about early scans is that early scans ( I think up until 8 weeks but maybe later for some) usually involve internal scanning rather than tummy.

It's possible I will be offered an early scan but I might turn it down soey because I just don't fancy lying there with a stick up my fan will the Sonographer,Dr, DH and I all have a convo. Blush it's just to weird for me.

I'm feeling a it worried today since all my symptoms seem to have disappeared over the last 24 hours. Trying to keep calm.

LoveWine · 28/08/2013 11:14

I've just booked my first appointment with the GP today. I thought they might tell me it's too early at 5 weeks but they said I should go as soon as possible.

By the way, I only found out I was pregnant yesterday and I'm 11 DPO today but I already feel nauseated for most of the day. I was quite sick this morning....is this normal at such an early stage?

Cupcake11 · 28/08/2013 11:15

Hi Littlebairn, no, I don't fancy an internal scan either - I was thinking of getting one done around the eight week mark just for some reassurance.

What kind of symptoms have you had that have gone? So sorry to hear about what you went through before - I can't imagine what that must have been like.

LittleBairn · 28/08/2013 11:16

Wow I really need to check my messages before I post that 2nd para is supposed to read:
It's possible I will be offered an early scan but I might turn it down solely because I just don't fancy lying there with a stick up my fanny while the Sonographer,Dr, DH and I all have a convo.

LittleBairn · 28/08/2013 11:21

It was mostly crampy stretching which I remember lasting much longer last time. But maybe that's because I was pregant only 8 months ago I don't need to stretch as much? Confused

Very senstive boobs, they seem fine now and my body temp that was pretty high for the last week suddenly being back to normal.

Ahhh I hate the 12 week wait its awful, it's like time slows down.
I'm almost looking forward to MS at least then I know the pregancy will be developing as it should be.

Cupcake11 · 28/08/2013 11:29

Maybe it's just your body settling down and getting used to the hormones? Some days my boobs are lot more sensitive than others and it worries me every time too. I'm sure they'll be back though!
If I was you I'd find out when you can have an external scan and have one to put your mind at rest. No point worrying for longer than you have to. I know it doesn't guarantee a healthy pregnancy but it does up your chances. Funny how you think TTC is the most stressful bit until you get a whole other set of worries when you get your BFP! Smile

OrangeMochaFrappucino · 28/08/2013 11:31

Haven't heard of a group midwife session. I made a booking i appt with midwife for next Thursday when I'll be six weeks but haven't seen my GP - I remembered it being pointless last time as she just told me to make a midwife appt so I hope it's ok to bypass the doctor altogether...not sure really!

I won't get a private scan and would bring reluctant to have one before eight weeks for the reasons above! I do feel anxious but I know that will just continue regardless - I could have a successful scan at eight weeks but it would only reassure me for a day or two...then I'd worry about the twelve week scan and the twenty week scan...then it would be baby's movement, the birth...then you're hanging over the crib watching them breathe...and on and on forever!

I think someone mentioned the angel sound doppler thing for monitoring the heartbeat. My midwife never listened to the heartbeat at my appts in my first pregnancy, just asked if I had felt movement. It made me really nervous and at 33 weeks I went into hospital in a panic as I thought he'd stopped moving (just asleep as it turned out!) and the midwife there immediately asked if I had a doppler - she said they got loads of women in because they couldn't find the heartbeat and were distraught. Her stance on it was that they aren't reliable and cause a lot of worry. So I probably wouldn't get one myself as I would drive myself demented I think!

LittleBairn I think symptoms can ebb and flow as your body gets used to the hormones and ten gets another surge etc. I worry every time I feel ok and then feel crappy all over again and wish I had enjoyed feeling ok! I wish we had little windows in our belly buttons and could see what was going on! Hope everything is fine for you Flowers.

OrangeMochaFrappucino · 28/08/2013 11:37

Also I had lots of crampy stretching pre-mc and virtually none this time. I think symptoms can vary a lot between pregnancies.

PixieBumbles · 28/08/2013 11:40

I'm going to see my GP tomorrow. I know that really all he'd normally do is say make sure you take folic acid and make an appointment with the midwife, but I'm on regular medication at the moment and I want to discuss that with the GP at the earliest opportunity, just to be safe.

Cupcake11 · 28/08/2013 11:44

Yes I know what you mean, it can easily get out of control. I've read a lot about those dopplers causing worry so I think I'll be giving them a miss.

There's a number of reasons why I think I'll probably have scan at eight weeks although I realise it's not for everyone. It's my first and I'm an anxious person anyway but I think more than that 12 weeks seems like forever away and I'm excited to see my baby before that. Plus I'm going on holiday around eight weeks and would quite like to know everything was going to plan before I go.

I do realise that things can go wrong after that though, as they can at any point. Best to be positive though!

hamncheese · 28/08/2013 14:00

Wow you guys have good health care. I will be lucky to have anyone care I am pg and the very best to expect is a 12 week scan and booking in together.... At 14 weeks. Nhs sucks up here. So wish I could afford to go private. In fact I hated all the hospital and doctor stuff last time I'm going for a home birth this time... Anyone else?

NannyPlumForPM · 28/08/2013 14:36

I don't fancy a home birth... DD1 was out in an hour and a half (from first crampy contraction) so I maybe won't have much choice!

I'm going to ring the Dr when I come back from hols. Will be about 6/7 by then I think?

Cupcake11 · 28/08/2013 14:50

Ham, that sounds awful - I'm sorry you had such a bad experience last time.

This is my first so I don't really know what to expect. I have this group thing tonight which sounds strange to me but I'll report back with how it went. Then I've got my booking in app when I'll be roughly 9 weeks - I guess I'll be given my scan app after that?

When you say 'go private' Ham, what do you mean? Pay for private scans or for a private midwife?

OrangeMochaFrappucino · 28/08/2013 15:23

Definitely considering a home birth - I had a 5.5hr labour with ds and didn't need any pain relief so hoping that things go as smoothly this time! I used the birthing pool so considering hiring one but our house is tiny so I don't know if we'd have room for one. I live very close to a lovely birthing centre so would very happy t go there but have the fear of them being full and having to go to hospital so planning a home birth would avoid that issue.

OP posts:
McBaby · 28/08/2013 16:07

The midwife advised me to have a home birth next time after my first birth as she thought I was unlikely to make it to the hospital in time. About 5 mins active labour then 50 mins pushing.

McBaby · 28/08/2013 16:14

Holding out for an NHS dating scan as I don't have a EDD as I have no LMP. I will start to make a fuss tomorrow as they had my GP referral 10 days ago and have heard nothing.

Otherwise I will be getting a early scan I had one at 6.5 weeks and saw the heartbeat and felt very reassured especially as the ultrasound man said that seeing a heartbeat at that stage meant 98% chance of carrying the baby successfully.

RosesInTheRain · 28/08/2013 20:55

Envy at these short labour times!

yikes sounds similar, mine was for acrania. I will feel a bit better once I'm past 6 weeks or so, as all my mc have been about then (or it has stopped growing then). I have been taking my high dose FA, so there's not much more I can do but hope. Fingers crossed for us both (and everyone else of course) Flowers

jelly take it you're a teacher as well then?

MacCrackles · 28/08/2013 21:09

Hi everyone. Purchased a digital hpt tonight and yay!! The word pregnant shone right up at me!! 2-3 weeks it tells me, which is 4-5 weeks so I'm going to book my booking appointment sooner rather than later.

How exciting!

I've not heard of a group midwife session cupcake I hope it goes well. A good way to meet people early on.

MacCrackles · 28/08/2013 21:12

Fingers crossed Roses and everyone.

Quick labours indeed. Are you close to the hospitals? I had a home birth with DC2, I loved it.

Allypallyjelly · 28/08/2013 21:16

Hey all,
I've had more spotting so have booked in for a scan at a private u/s place in North London called myultrababy this sunday (at 5+5). Fingers crossed everything is ok.
Hope you guys are doing well!!
5+1 today

CityGal29 · 28/08/2013 22:36

Had a most disappointing booking int tonight - doc didn't even bother weighing me or asking family history and even ticked the wrong boxes for things I told him and I had to get receptionist to correct the forms.

When is midwife is it 8wks! Hope
It's better Grin
4&6

impatientlywaiting · 28/08/2013 22:40

Hi everyone, hope everyone is ok.
AllyPally fingers crossed for you. Hopefully your scan will be a really good and reassuring experience.
Have you had any pain? Or just spotting?

MacCrackles woohoo to the 2-3weeks on the digi.

4+4

Allypallyjelly · 28/08/2013 23:17

Hi impatiently, spotting and cramping too :( but it isn't that bad or isn't as bad as nasty period cramps. I guess because it's our first so I'm just a little paranoid and had a gp friend whom I showed the pic and was told to go to a&e if possible. Hoping for the best !!
Yuhuu maccrackles!
