Ok, I can't see a May thread in here so I guess I will start one! According to the NHS due date calculator my EDD is actually 30th April but I think that makes me more likely to be having a May baby anyway!

Am feeling very tentative about starting this thread as I had a mc in June and it's very early days for this one but...anyone want to come and chat through these nerve-wracking first few days?

OP posts:

AllyPally just flicked back through this thread and saw your clear blue digi was showing your HCG is going up. That's really reassuring and I think most of us in this thread are experiencing crampy feelings.

I've heard spotting is really common. Have you considered going to your GP in the hope they'll refer you to EPAU for a scan? They scanned me last time at 5+2 and the consultants were all lovely. I thought they wouldn't be interested as I was so early, but they were really nice. It's an idea in case you wanted to save a bit and not have the private scan?

Allypallyjelly · 29/08/2013 05:55

Hi impatiently , thanks! Yeah the last time I did it turned from 2-3 weeks to 3+ in 3 days. Other than waking up super early like emjay, and the spotting plus cramps, i've not had much symptoms so far.
Yes I called the EPAU near me and explained the situation. She told me that I could go in through emergency unit and get assessed by a dr but it's only advisable to come in between 9-12pm as that's when the imaging units are open but there is a long wait. I haven't told work and because my midwife appmt was on Tuesday , the "I need to go to hospital for an appointment" excuse may be overused if I do it twice a week! But ill see. If the bleeding gets worse i may just go after all it concerns my health.

Thanks for advice xx

Morning all, this insomnia is driving me crazy! Had a long day at work yesterday so hoped it would help me sleep better but not at all, now I've got an even longer day today and I'm so tired Sad on a better note last night I ended up telling my parents and sister only because my sister is visiting this week and we were all at the parents house when my sister told me if everything goes ok this time (she had a mc in May) I'm going to be an aunty so seemed perfect opportunity to say well hopefully you will be too! Grin so now just hoping everything goes ok for the both of us, and of course for all of you! Any tips to help me sleep greatly appreciated! Not being able to have my usual coffee fixes isn't helping with the tiredness at work either.

CityGal29 · 29/08/2013 07:27

That will be reassuring ally pally hard to know how to manage stress wise ou poor thing.

Emjay I'm getting insomnia too around 530am I wake up and can't get back to sleep .. Argh!
Btw you weren't on Babycentre years ago were you with a son born early 2009 (random!!) Grin

Cupcake11 · 29/08/2013 07:35

Just thought I would report back on the group midwife session in case anyone else has one. There was about ten ladies and we all sat in a circle while the midwife went through foods to avoid, what our following appointments and scans will entail, reminded us to let our holiday insurance know and general things like that. She also said that if we have bleeding or pain before 18 weeks we should go to gp or a&e rather than contact the midwife.
We were also given a huge pack of info, booklets, freebies and forms to fill out before our booking in appointments - these will be our notes to bring every time we come.
It was quite helpful actually and I can see why they do it but not so great for confidentiality - there was a girl I went to primary school there!

impatientlywaiting · 29/08/2013 08:12

That's good that your EPAU have been helpful AllyPally we aren't too far off Sunday now so not long to wait.

Cupcake my sister went to a group midwife appointment for her last baby. Sounds very similar to yours. You're right about confidentiality though. Imagine if you saw your boss there or something?

EmJay how lovely that you and your sister will be pregnant at the same time. Apart from our friends in Germany we haven't told anyone yet. I went to a poorly timed cocktail tasting session last night which we arranged months ago with my friends. Thankfully I didn't like 1 and just had sips out of the other 3. We're off to a wedding tomorrow and when DH told his friends I'd be driving one asked straights away if I was pregnant. I didn't realise how much of my life revolved around alcohol until I was pregnant. I think we might tell a few more people at around 7-8 weeks, but still feels so early now. I may just have to become a hermit to avoid being found out.

In other really good news a caved a bit early and did my second clearblue today. Did the last on Sat, after getting the faintest of faint lines on Thur so today was a week on from my first BFP. It came up as 2-3 weeks which was really reassuring as last time my CB never got past 1-2 weeks, even when I tested on 5 weeks exactly (which turned out to be the day MC started. So lovely and reassuring to see 2-3 this time around.

4+5 today

LaceyLee · 29/08/2013 08:33

Hi all I've been getting terrible insomnia again also, did try camomile tea last night and slightly better but if anyone has any other tips I would also love to know them! We told my parents the other day, they were in shock for a few mins but now really happy and telling ILs tomorrow.

I haven't got my booking appt til 9th October!! I'm 6 weeks exactly today so ill be almost 12 weeks at that point, do you think that's ok?

Emjay great that you have your sis to compare notes with, I don't think I know anyone else but guess somebody may announce it soon.

Cupcake11 · 29/08/2013 08:34

That's great news impatiently! That must put your mind at ease no end.
I know what you mean about your life revolving around alcohol too, there was a thread on pregnancy where someone said saying you're on antibiotics is the same as announcing you're pregnant.
I've told my mum and my sister so far an will probably tell my best friend tomorrow night when I see her. I hate not telling people but I don't want to have to untell people if the worst happens. Might have to tell a few more close friends and family after our early scan if everything's as it should be Smile

TwoCrazyKids · 29/08/2013 12:50

Can I join??? Tested positive yesterday and think in due around the 9th of may. This is baby number 3 but had a mc two years ago do a little nervous.

Allypallyjelly · 29/08/2013 13:04

Emjay - how lovely to have preg buddy with sis! Re insomnia I've also tried camomile but hasn't helped too much. But you could try that and see. I've started some relaxing candles n stuff and it's not that bad like last week (3.30am) and this week is about 5am.
Citygirl - yes I'm hoping this Sunday will be just like a reassurance scan even if just to see the sac etc
Impatiently - that's great!! 2-3 weeks = 201mIU to 2000mIU so that's great!
Cupcake - I was going to use the I'm on antibiotic excuse for not drinking! But you're right it's quite a lame excuse and may even suggest more that u are preg. But I did have kidney infection two weeks ago so I think if I use that it might work!! I agree with impatiently regarding the group appmt cos I will not want to see anyone from work or friend of a friend at the group.
Great news to hear you girls are also announcing the good news. We are keeping to immediate family and friend whom we are very close to.
Have a great day girls xx

Allypallyjelly · 29/08/2013 14:05

Congrats twocrazy ! Sorry to hear of your loss. Fingers crossed all good this time! Sending positive thoughts x

Isean · 29/08/2013 14:18

Hello!
It's nice to see more people joining the thread! How're you all getting on?

I am 5 weeks (not sure how many days) and feeling fat and bloated, my work clothes especially feel tight and uncomfortable, will I just keep getting bigger?!
Other than the bloat, I'm still getting a bit of cramping and backache, and pretty tired, no sickness or much nausea yet.

How're the symptoms for you?

I phoned the medical practice when I found out and wasn't quite sure what to do, but they aren't interested in seeing me until I'm 8 weeks, so I've made my first midwife appointment for 16th Sept, hoping everything will go ok until then!

Allypallyjelly · 29/08/2013 15:08

Hi Isean - yay 5 wks 2 or 3 days so similar to you. Yes today I put on a dress I bought a couple of months ago for work and could not fit in! Well I could put it on but looks like I'm really preg but I think that's just cos I haven't been exercising in the last month or so! In fact because of lack of sleep and losing appetite I've lost 1kg since July.
Yeah u can also self refer depending if your hosp does that. I did mine on 21/8 , got a call on 23/8 and saw the midwife on 27/8! All very quick!
5+2

TwoCrazyKids · 29/08/2013 15:10

I've just had sore boobs and a little crampy. When does the tiredness kick in? I can't remember when it kicked in last time, I just remember the pure exhaustion!!

I'm so nervous I'm going to have another mc although last time was completely different, I'd no symptoms and spotted the whole time. I just did another test to be extra sure and still positive thank god!!

Isean - I've been really bloated but it does seem to go down every now and then thank god! I literally looked about 5 months pregnant the other day Grin

Thanks for adding me longtail!

ACatCalledBrian · 29/08/2013 18:11

Hello everyone, any room for another one? I got my BFP today (on three different pregnancy tests so it must be right...) and I've made a drs appointment for Monday. I think I'm due 4th May. It's my first pregnancy so it's all quite scary at the moment!

Cupcake11 · 29/08/2013 18:31

Welcome Cat, and congratulations! It's my first too so I can appreciate how scary it is Grin

EmJay9 · 29/08/2013 19:43

Hi all so pleased today is done and I can relax, feel exhausted and not sure how I got through my long day at work.
citygal no that wasn't me, this is my first.

It is lovely that me and my sister can share our pregnancy experience and the little ones will be close in age Smile just hope all goes ok for us both.
impatiently I wasn't planning on telling my sister quite yet but when she told me her news I couldn't not tell her mine!
Thanks to those who have suggested camomile tea I will certainly try it, willing to try anything at mo! Feeling exhausted now and could happily go to bed already but then worried I'll just be up more in the night and even earlier in the morning Sad here's hoping I get a half decent nights sleep tonight.

MacCrackles · 29/08/2013 19:52

Hi everyone.

crazykids tiredness is kicking in for me about now, I'm all yawn yawn yawn! How old are your children?

cupcake the group MW session sounds useful but perhaps not great if you know anyone, although you'd both be in the same boat!

Have you all had/made your booking in (booking? It's been less than 3 years since I last did this but I've forgotten so much it seems!) appointments? I made mine today for 1st October. No idea how I'm going to wangle the time off work for the hour long appointment then 90 minute commute, still, a while to think about that yet. I know I'm allowed the time I just don't want them to know too early. Although like you cupcake I think I looked about 3 months already!!!

MacCrackles · 29/08/2013 19:56

Hope you manage to sleep EmJay, do share your tips if you find anything that works!

We've not told anyone yet but have a family get together next weekend so are considering telling family for that, they will question why I'm not drinking I suspect! I would prefer not to mention so early but don't think we'll have much choice as it's a weekend thing.

LongTailedTit · 29/08/2013 23:12

Argh, the not drinking thing is a massive pain - I don't drink generally anyway, but my goodness the amount of people that instantly ask "Are you pregnant then?" drove me maaaaad last time! This whole country seems boozed obsessed at times.

We had a work wine tasting evening when I was about 10 weeks so I trotted out the old antibiotics line, and to be fair I did look a bit pg but always did due to IBS anyway and almost everyone asked if I was pregnant. It made me cross, as I had to lie and say no.
Our finance director (who was a prat) was the only person with the sense to not put me on the spot - he told me later that he had guessed "as your figure has changed" while staring at my chest Hmm but didn't ask as his wife had had a couple of losses and would never ask someone if they were pg. Thanks

homebakedflapjack · 29/08/2013 23:19

Hi all - I am tentatively sticking my head around, I took a test this morning and I am indeed pregnant and hope to stay that way!

This is my first baby so I am looking forward to getting to know you. I have a due date of May 11th according to when my last period was. X

LongTailedTit · 29/08/2013 23:59

Woo boo, welcome flapjack! Shall add you to the stats, then it's official :)
